Next day, popular nurse Jutta Böblinger is murdered, possibly having seen too much.

During the police costumed party, Thomas's is broken into by Rosa and Robert, who tried to steal the valuable masks collection.

Ghost hunter Nils Breuer was found hanged in a 'witch-haunted forest' hamlet near Stuttgart, no suicide. Breuer planned a 'ghost inn' in the Hexenwald. Hanno Oberlehner, the simpleton adolescent son of penniless forest pig- and shepherdess Franziska, claims he was killed by the centuries old witch of the forest, where the local veterinarian committed a mystery suicide in her car a year ago. Former partner ghost hunter Marc Gründel felt badly cheated over a joint book project. Rich shipping firm boss Anton Nägele, the Oberlehners' generous benefactor, also owns the only local hotel, but denies fearing the ghost inn competition. Even Jo gets scared after a nocturnal excursion with Jan in the 'haunted' forest to examine the mystery fog, which proves the hallucinogenic byproduct of a multiple-relevant other crime.
