Much better improvement over last season
Schleiben2827 September 2022
After a lackluster season finale back in May for Season 20, the 21st season of Family Guy kicks off fresh with a great episode paying homage to three classic films of the 1990s: Silence of the Lambs, American Beauty, and Forrest Gump. The jokes are great and sling fast one right after the other, and each of the characters fit well with the movie characters they're spoofing. I laughed at least seven times, which is pretty good for a 22 minute episode. This is the kind of humor that has been missed in Family Guy for at least the last five years. I hope they stick with it and that there aren't any clunkers like the first few episodes tend to be each season. By the way, Chris looks really good with black hair on the spoof of American Beauty.

Oscars Guy

Warning: Spoilers
Well, it looks like these parodies are going to become an annual tradition for the show. Whatever helps them get through the episode order count I suppose.

This wasn't bad though. I've never seen Forrest Gump or The Silence of the Lambs so it was interesting to see how the stories played out and learn a little bit about those movies. I don't remember much about American Beauty so essentially the whole thing was a new ride.

Family Guy can still make you laugh even if it is not quite as good as it once was. But let's stick to original plots and save the parodies for few and far between in my opinion.

Nice Premier, but this season needs more originality and depth.

I actually the spoofs. The twists on their own were funny yet a bit unusual but they made me laugh. 9.0/10 for me. Hopefully the fandom doesn't go way too hard on the writers for the parodies. I hope that this season will finally unite the entire fandom from splitting into unnecessary schisms because it's pathetic fighting over little things about a show that's been on for years. This episode may seem off-putting to others but, humor is subjective to everyone. I think the writers should work on revitalizing the characters to have at least some of their original personalities back and faze out the cutaways to develop the storylines better in my opinion.

THEY STILL HAVE IT!

Warning: Spoilers
This was a brilliant episode! The episode is up there with some of the best ones Seth and the writers have developed...

The First movie they parody is Silence of the Lambs...Of course Stewie is Lector...The part where Lector steels the guard he kills face is HILARIOUS... Chris, voiced by another Seth was so well done, he really had the perfect timbre for Ted Levine. The way it pans out is hilarious.

The next parody was American Beauty. The parody rips apart the 90's and shows it for the horrible decade it was, as well as the twisted hollywood idealisms of that time.

Lastly, Forest Gump...A masterful parody...Very funny!

It seems like the B rate jokes of these films
iamjaywood26 September 2022
I was excited to see these parodies- but Family Guy has already done parodies/gags of these films in the previous seasons so it felt weird to recall those jokes more than the ones presented here.

Not the strongest season opener. Family guy continues its hit and Miss style of from episode to episode.

If I had to rank them, which I seem I have to go get the required characters needed to post this, I would say the order is forest being the best- then silence and then American Beauty.

I hope after this and HBO-No last year that family guy doesn't continue these treehouse of horror three episode schticks. It's just a bit lazy.

Confused mess
AlexLeeThomson27 September 2022
Compared to previous movie parodies that have played into the source material while offering some unexpected curve balls for the characters, this feels incredibly lazy and joke-thin. Held up to "Blue Harvest" as an example it's like two different shows entirely. The love and depth that went into that compared to this brings home the decline in quality.

Starting the series on one of these types of episodes rather than a strong story feels like a bad omen for the rest to come too. Also timing wise, airing in September nowhere near the Oscars is just confusing when it could have been held until further in the series. One of the poorest episodes of the whole show in my opinion.

Awful
invisibleunicornninja22 October 2022
This feels like someone watched a few clips from the movies it is trying to parody, described the plot from those clips to someone else, then someone else turned that into this. I only saw 2/3 of the original movies being parodied, one of which I don't even like that much, but these are just awful parodies. I do not see how this even counts as entertainment. Its not commentating on anything. There are no jokes. It feels like someone trying to describe a movie they never saw in a really short period of time. This is so bad. I have never seen such a poorly done parody that fails on so many levels to understand what a parody even is.

Not bad, not good.

I enjoy when Family Guy does episodes like this, but this one was weak for a season premiere. All three of the films have already been used for jokes in earlier episodes of the series.

They've done Forrest Gump cutaways, and spoofed American Beauty scenes, and remember when Chris was the Silence of the Lambs guy in the episode when he becomes popular at school? It's 2022, they really could've chosen more recent Oscar movies and given us something fresh for season 21.

Come on Family Guy writers, catch up!

I've been a huge fan for years, and I'm hopeful that this season will get better. Every season has its gems, but probably not this episode.

This is just an offensive take on these beloved movies.
mikesundae13 October 2022
This episode is just one big question on why am I still watching this show, even though it hasn't been funny in the past decade. I used to love watching Family Guy when I was younger, but now it's either dull or painfully unfunny. I feel sorry for Seth MacFarlane because he has to keep being involved with these episodes by voicing some of the characters, even though he stated on an interview that the show should just end already. Now someone here might be asking why I keep watching this show when it has a new episode when I'm sick and tired of it. The answer to that is I'm just too familiar with how Family Guy works and I just keep thinking it might be a hidden gem, when it's painfully obvious that it's never going to happen as much again.

The episode overall was not enjoyable in the slightest. In fact, all it does it just makes cheap jokes with how all of the movies were made in the 90s and expects people to laugh about how it was set in the aforementioned decade. Seriously, one joke throughout the episode was just referencing the only licensed song that appeared in the episode. I felt like I wanted to stop watching it after the first skit was over, but unfortunately the familiarity of the show made me watch it more to see if any of it was good. I was dead wrong on that hypothesis.

I just want to stop watching new episodes of this show thanks to this one. It clearly shows me that Fox doesn't care about the quality of their programming whatsoever and that they'll do anything to keep shows like this afloat. It doesn't feel like an overall achievement anymore from watching this garbage, as I haven't felt like a huge fan of Family Guy since I was 13. I feel like Fox could do a huge favor and end the show already, since it's only squeezing a little over a million viewers per episode.

Time To Call It A Day
LittleBlade14 August 2023
To use a motoring analogy, Family Guy has been coasting on fumes for years, but with this episode it's now running on empty.

You'd think the writers would be spoilt for choice parodying movies that had won the Oscar for Best Movie, but no - it seems they haven't even seen one since 1999. (Though looking at a list of the films made since then that fit their criteria, I suppose they didn't have much to work with... I haven't even heard of most of them, let alone seen them.)

The problem was that the three films they chose to spoof were so old, there was nothing left to spoof that hadn't already been done before : Family Guy itself has already parodied all three films in short skits many times, long ago. There wasn't a single funny moment in the whole episode.

Seth MacFarlane (who even sounded bored performing his lines) said many years ago that he felt Family Guy should come to an end... there's no doubt that time has now come.
