Soldier Boy Continues to Shine and the Plot Thickens in the Most Interesting Way
MamadNobari971 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So the theory about SB being Homelander's father turns out to be true, and it might be a giant cliché and overused trope, but I don't care because it works so well for this story and makes the plot and character relationships way more complex and personal.

First of all, just as I thought, they couldn't kill A-Train, which I wanted them to because I thought his story is over and it's cheesy to keep showing us his heart problem and then not kill him. But him having Blue Hawk's heart in his chest now makes much more sense and it's even better than I thought and I would've never thought of it. So no problem for me since it works so well. Really good writers here. Although I don't know how BH's heart was even intact, I assumed all his internal organs either exploded or scraped across the asphalt, but that's a negligible nitpick.

We also have lots of flashbacks for Butcher and Black Noir, but they're not boring or your typical flashback scenes that hold back the actual plot, they are done beautifully in a really creative and interesting way and I have no problems with them. Even though Black Noir's was kinda too on the nose and obvious that it was more of an exposition for the audience, it was still done in a creative way and I have no problem with this kind of exposition, especially when they are "show And tell" and not just tell.

We finally get to see where Queen Maeve is held up, and my theory about Black Noir going to rescue her wasn't correct. And Homelander threatens Maeve with something worse than death.

Mindstorm was a really great character and seemed to have one of the strongest powers in this world, but he still couldn't last 1 second against Soldier Boy.

We also get our seasonal dose of Homelander providing and drinking milk scene.

Mother's Milk's fight with his ex's husband was obviously bound to happen.

We also have the revelation about Temp V but Butcher, even after all the moving and revealing flashbacks, still doesn't tell Hughie about the danger they're in by taking Temp V, and it looks like he's stuck in the cycle of self-destruction and destroying everyone around him if it means he gets closer to his goal which is revenge. Seems like no amount of reliving his past and what he did to Lenny can change his mind and he still has this "whatever it takes" mindset.

Kimiko also gets her powers back, and it makes sense because it was the only way they could've gone with her story line. It was either this or Frenchie and her running away to Marseille. I also hope Frenchie also takes V (I don't remember if V on adults works or nah) and he gets powers too, because it feels like he's been sidelined the whole show, it would be cool to see him have it too, but I guess that could go against the very reason Kimiko wanted to have her powers back.

Through the presentation of those cartoon animals, we get to see what actually happened in Nicaragua and also Noir's past with Soldier Boy and we see that Soldier Boy ain't no saint.

And now that Soldier Boy's already brittle "relationship" with Butcher and Hughie is shattered completely, and him finding out Homelander is his son, it's gonna make an already complicated situation 10 times more complicated and The Boys might need to go against Soldier Boys too in addition to Homelander and that's gonna make things harder for them. And they might even team up with Black Noir and Maeve but I don't think Black Noir can stand against Soldier Boy since SB already messed him up once and turned him into this.

Anyway, this was a really well-done episode that revealed so much more and the plot got more complex, and with Soldier Boy probably wanting to be his son and Butcher and Hughie on the verge of frying their brains, it makes me more excited for the finale and next seasons to see how the writers are gonna deal with them.

And the plot thickens.
bruninho-loopes1 July 2022
Great episode. Calms your nerves after the rollercoaster of emotions the last one was. Gives us a lot more insight into some characters, by showing us Butcher's, Noir's, and even a significant bit of Homelander's back stories. It was basically an exposition episode, but very well made and the stories were very well told with an intriguing plot twist. Excited to see what's going to happen next!

The Boys does what other superhero shows fail to do
lovemichaeljordan1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Boys does everything right compared to other superhero shows. The Boys is much more about character development rather than flashy greenscreen action scenes. Every character in The Boys is interesting, layered and likeable. Even the villains are compelling to watch. This episode shows a lot of back stories and character development. This is one of the most emotional episodes of the whole series.

It's impossible to predict this season's finale and it's impossible to choose who to root for because everyone has turned against each other which makes for intense and compelling story. There is so much at stake and even fans of the comics don't know what's going to happen. Next week's episode will be the culmination of three seasons of storytelling. It will be nothing short of amazing. Can't wait for the finale of one of the greatest television seasons in years.

Three To Five
tristan_191 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed is one of the best episodes of The Boys and adopts a darker tone before the finish line. Everything here is somber. You get sublime character development and pitch perfect twists.

Billy's past is honestly one of the saddest ever. You feel so bad for the guy. As you do for M. M. after Janine witnesses him losing it with Todd. Black Noir gets a lot of creative sequences depicting Soldier Boy's abuse, and you can't help rooting for the guy.

The cinematography is brilliant. The way the Maeve and Homelander scene is shot is great. You really feel the sense of entrapment. The set pieces and designs really stand out.

Everything ties up together with a nice little bow at the end. Frenchie and Kimiko have a phenomenal relationship and some of the most heartfelt scenes of the whole show, which are featured in this episode. The emotions are showcased perfectly.

Annie and Homelander's face off is elite stuff. The temp V is actually fatal. And oh, John wasn't poured out of a f-in test tube !

Choices
ossie851 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What makes a character interesting is the choices they make. It doesn't even matter really what the choice is, but every choice tells us a bit more about the character.

Starlight's choices show us she is a hero.

Homelander's choices show us he is the villain.

But Butcher? Even with the consequences of his choices spelled out for him, he still makes negative choices. This makes him the most interesting character on the show, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

"No, Homelander..."
Trey_Trebuchet1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yet another phenomenal episode of The Boys. Yet another episode that is hands down one of the best in the entire show.

Jensen Ackles is killing it as Soldier Boy. He's a genuinely interesting character, but this episode sort of solidified where he stands and what kind of person he really is. And his final lines in this episode, while certainly a bit of a cliche, imply very unpredictable things for the finale...

Was also pleasantly surprised by the development of Black Noir. I actually feel really bad for the guy. His trip down memory lane was so strange but it felt fitting, given what happened to him.

Billy also gets some very interesting, hard-to-watch development. I love him, but come on... SURELY he'll come around by the finale right?

Deep may or may not try to have sex with a squid again. Again... can we at least stop with that?

Also, Paul Reiser is da'm hilarious in this. I've laughed out loud in all of his scenes.

This was an excellent episode. It was hilarious yet sad, disturbing yet heartbreaking... I have no freakin' clue how this season is going to end and that's exciting.

More chill, but brilliant still!!!!
israelfd-761211 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Herogasm was nuts! Great action, euphoric, thrilling!!

HCACTLYTB is more emotional. Prepare to cry.

THIS SERIES IS BECOMING A ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS!!At first, I hated some characters, then, at the beginning of season 2 I started to feel pity for some of them. At the beginning of this season, I started hating everyone again (except Kimiko and Frenchie #BestCoupleEver), now I feel bad for some of them again, and even understand them a bit.

F#ck! Watching the backstory for both Butcher and Black Noir. You'll feel sorry for them. Misunderstood victims of their traumas.

Watching Annie's genuine love for Hughie, by not caring about their previous conflict in order to save him... somehow reflecting Kimiko's love for Frenchie. Retake compund V/ Avoid compund V... You'll do anything for your special loved one.

"The V isn't good or bad. It just depends on the person using it"

That final scene... Is it implied that SoldierBoy and Homelander will become allies? Or am I mistaken?

I like Soldier Boy character ( a different review)
ssvfolder-11 July 2022
This is much calmer episode than the previous ones, yet it fits perfetly to the whole picture.

Both Antony Starr and Jensen Ackles deliver an amazing performance to the degree that you can't not like the characters. In some way they are absolutely relatable.

It's absolutely different than the comics, but it works perfectly well on its own.

While shortcomings.of both Homelander and Soldier Boy are widely documented in the show, one can't overlook the world from their own perspective. Both were bred to be heroes, supreme beings. Both had stepped up to the role. Neither one can have morals like Superman or Captain America.

Despite the fact that they are basically force more powerful than Nuclear weapon, They never do thinngs for the sake of evil or for the sake of power, unlike most of evil characters in literature. Yes, they are spoiled, entitled, immoral in some ways, yet still their reasons for doing so is love and popularity byu their surronding. Neither want to strike fear into everyone around. Also it should be mentioned, that Soldier Boy is honest in his wishes and desires. I'm really starting to warm up to the character, who is unlike someone like Hewey, actually knows what he wants and who he is.

Another episode at the very top. Keep it up.

Warning: Spoilers
The finale was a little Star Wars, yet it let you wonder where this is going. Anything could happen.

Butcher won't endangered Hughie, but there's a probability he's dying soon.

Oh, and we need more Black Noir, please.

each episode gets better
jack_pearson1 July 2022
I loved herrogasm ! But this is superior in writing. I found myself waiting until midnight to watch it; the big reveal was nicely done considering it's a little cliche. Jensen ackles is really killing this role, i hope he gets a lot more roles after this. I also hope black noir isn't the one to kill him. I wish there were more than 8 episodes but for now i'll be waiting until next friday midnight to watch.

Decent enough cool-down filler episode
RogerBorg1 July 2022
After the frenetic heights of Herogasm, we get an hour of backpeddling, backfilling and backstory.

Pared down to its essence, this is a respawn episode, aimed at getting the established narrative back on track. There's nothing wrong with that, it's got all the usual tropes and quirks, but it adds nothing new, and it goes backwards, not forwards.

Yes, there's the requisite body count, but it's rather token, a nobody who does nothing and then exits, stage squishy.

We get an origin story for Butcher which is tediously emo and deconstructionist. All tough men are just hurt little boys on the inside, right? Look, just pretend you never saw it. It's OK, nobody is going to mention it again.

That aside, there's nothing particularly wrong here, it's just low energy, and introduces absolutely nothing new until the very last line. Even then, the shock reveal is just meh at this point.

Enjoy it for what it is, but it's not one to re-watch.

overused tropes, contrivances, bad writing and boring
namob-436731 July 2022
The extremely overused tropes in this show have gone full circle (again) and we see the same story play out (again) with the same characters doing the same thing without going anywhere. 3 seasons now and I not think a single character has evolved or changed. They are all the same persons and have the same problems, the same "goal" and doing the same things as they did in the very first episode.

The only really exception to above internal tropes and boring overuse of copy pasting itself is perhaps Frenchie and Kimiko who instead are both so boring and so badly acted I wish they would die already. What is the point of those two? Why should anyone care?

In this episode we even got a "I am your father" moment which was so badly done and so on the nose I didn't think they would do it, but of course they did because writers on this show are talentless hacks.

Worse though is how boring this episode is. With less blood and gore, without all the nudity and sex, and with less fights this show stands out how contrived, badly written, badly told and how really, really, really boring the show is. The Boys is nothing more but a left-wing wet dream of hate going around in a circle. They could have fit all character development and all events of this show into one 45min episode. No problem, but they need to show us businesses are evil, nationalism is evil and political correctness is the way to save the world.

How people can like this show is beyond me. This is the lowest of the low. Here is some blood and some sex - like me! Please like and keep watching for more blood and sex. Isn't blood and sex great? And when we do more blood and sex about the same character doing the same thing for the 100th time you will still love it because this show has blood and sex.

Great setup to hopefully an explosive season final
karimbelkayed1 July 2022
Great episode after the fantastic previous episode, this episode however is more focus about the plot than the action but it's an excelent slow burner episode to get to the climax which i hope episode 8 to be. Just a little complaint to a reviewer here who claimed this episode in better than Herogasm, you are just delusional man, Herogasm episode is the benchmark episode for all superheroes tv shows period.

Oh boy!!!
This episode was full of emotions with MM with his kid and Butcher seeing himself as a kid and all the mistakes he's made. I was hoping this would change Butcher for the better but then there's his lie to hughie. Antony Starr continues to be the best thing in television with another outstanding performance. We even got to find out more about noir!! The tension and emotion throughout this episode was great. And how about that twist ending? Very interested to see how this ends next week!

Another superbly written episode. Heavy on character development
Ottodane1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After the explosive HEROGASM, this episode slows things down to focus on our characters before a most likely crazy finale. We get backstories for some well chosen characters that fill in some satisfying blanks. Butcher deals with his past and we get to see what actually happened to his brother. This it also sets up the theme of sons turning into their fathers, which cleverly sets up the big reveal at the end of the episode. Just as grim, yet more colorful, is the wonderful scenes of Black Noir and his "friends," a stylized and hilarious way to both give us a little glimpse of how Noir works, as well as show us how he got to be that way.

In those scenes we also get more corroboration that Soldier Boy is indeed an evil SOB. I love how the show makes you kind of like him while keeping him purposefully gross and unlikeable for a while, but slowly he is becoming more irredeemable with his actions and what we know now about his past. And with the final reveal of *SPOILERS* him bing Homelanders father, it all starts making sense. It's a great twist and they built up to it perfectly with little hints, like Meave and Crimson Countess confessing their hate in nearly identical ways.

I can't wait for the finale. I cannot imagine how this is going to turn out but it can't be good.

It's official: "The Boys" S3 is even more epic than S1
Geekofriendly1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While this episode's final revelation still can't top the mega battle from the previous episode (what will?!?), the twist it has created and the power shifts that are about to transpire, is the legendary set-up we can only dream of.

Season 1 laid the glorious messy foundation.

Season 2 added brick and mortar into the mix.

Season 3 is bringing it all together into the perfect bloody cluster**** of unimaginable proportions!

Twisted ending for E7

That's why Homelander has such a twisted characteristic after all. Herogasm is a outstanding level of TV, but with the E7 ending, it makes it even more interesting after all.

Great episode with more character development and backstories
Shadowboy_25cm3 July 2022
With this episode going deeper into some backstories from Butcher and Noir, there is more character development in regard of p.e. Kimiko and Frenchie, MM, Starlight, Soldier Boy.

Homelander is a great character and a joy to watch. Soldier Boy is getting richer in characterization, but remains an uncontrolled force of nature like Homelander.

It's not the action that makes this show so great, it's the characters, their troubles with themselves and their conflicts, not only on the outside, but also on the inside.

Intense, gripping, dark, hilarious and excellent storytelling.

Highly recommended.

Heartbreakingly Tragic
robotintroverted1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was crazy! While I don't think it's as good as last episode, it's still incredibly well done.

I think Butcher's trauma this episode was really well handled, explaining why he is who he is. I like that him leaving his brother was only the domino that started his cruelty. I still don't agree with Butcher though, I was fine with him the first two seasons, but I think Herogasm really helped to shine a light on his awfulness. Of course, he's still very likeable as a character, and I actually like Hughie as a character this season. The first two seasons he wasn't really much of a character, he was just the scared guy, who we as an audience could relate to. But now he is messed up, and I think that disconnect with the audience, us not really having anyone in this show to relate to is very interesting (except for Annie)

The villain of this episode was definitely an interesting one, again, I like how they make these "heroes" have genuine humanity to them, in comparison to them being perfect beings. I also like Starlight as a character more, she was really annoying the past couple of seasons, but she's great here. There was some predictability with the villains uh... death. But it was still great nonetheless.

Annie recording Homelander while making all these threats was a really great move, and I guess I'll let it slide that he wasn't able to hear Annie secretly recording him with his superhearing because he was too focused on Starlight.

I feel like the most tragic characters this season are Kimiko and Frenchie, seeing them slowly realize that their dream is slowly slipping away more and more is heartbreaking. And of course Kimiko gets her powers back. However, I don't know whether she could've just waited a bit longer until she got her powers back, or she was permanently not able to use them anymore without the V.

MM punching Todd in the face felt satisfying, but also shows the consequences for decking him. Todd taking Janine to the Homelander rally just shows how parents often try to brainwash their children with their own beliefs, instead of them thinking for themselves.

We also get to see some of the side-effects of the V, that one especially being death.

I'm super hyped for the finale, and it looks like it is going to be INSANE since we find out that Soldier Boy is Homelanders dad.

I'm gonna give this one a 9.5/10!

Can't deny it's a good episode
chippysmyth1 July 2022
Not massive amounts of action but we get to see why Butcher is the way he is.

Unfortunately they didn't spring for 2 plane tickets to get a couple of young English actors to play young Billy and Lenny. Instead they got a couple of lads who did to Cockneys what Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman did to the Irish in the 80s. It's PAINFULLY bad, proper turn on subtitles and hit mute bad.

When are producers going to learn? AMERICAN ACTORS CANT DO OTHER ACCENTS. (Exceptions apply. Looking at you Alan Tudyk and James Marsters, but other than those two it's just a massive nope.)

It's always the little things that screw series like this up, The Deep and Cassandra having a blow out could have happened anywhere but they made it happen in the bedroom when they know they have an actress who is going to spend more energy covering her modesty than acting, he'll they could have given her lingerie instead of insisting on being topless and then shooting round it. It's annoying, it takes you right out of the scene and the show and they can definitely do better.

Fix the details Kripke, you have the big stuff right.

Who didn't see that coming!
aasimazam3 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
More cookie cutter, cliched crap. You'd have to be dull as a post to not see the twist(s), I was holding out hope that wasn't going to be the case.

The two twists were so obvious, that when they happened, it was painful.

Oh this compound is fatal ... so done.

And father and son.

This is going the wrong way like so many other great shows, filled with fan service and cliched tropes and boring filler. What will it take for these writers to actually go against the grain and do something different.

Wow!
sookie02181 July 2022
I know it's a long shot, but can you please keep Soldier boy and get rid of Homelander. And and change the show's title to I don't know like maybe The Super Boys?

----------------------- What a plot twist! Don't want to spoil anything!

But god! This is good!

Been a huge fan of Jensen long before The boys.

Then been a fan of The boys before Jensen comes along.

Just the thought of Jensen being on the show is incredible, to seeing it's really happening is mind blowing!

Can't wait to see what's going on next!
