Last Words
For his fourth narrative feature, Us based filmmaker Jonathan Nossiter embarks on the long-gestating Last Words, a French-Italian co-production through Paris-based Doc & Films International, Paris-based Serge Lalou with Films d’Ici, and Donatello Palermo from Rome-based Stemal Entertainment. The sci-fi pre-apocalyptic affair lines up an equally diverse cast including Nick Nolte, Stellan Skarsgard, Valeria Golino, Alba Rohrwacher, and Charlotte Rampling (who previously starred in Nossiter’s Signs & Wonders in 2000 and Rio Sex Comedy in 2010). Rio Sex Comedy is a movie that gets two-thirds of its title right. The movie is set in Rio and lots of people are having sex, but there were very few laughs in this supposed comedy. In fact, there isn't much of a movie or story or point to Rio Sex Comedy.
Rio Sex Comedy has three main “plots” (and I use that term loosely) that sort of weave together by the end of the film. In the first story, Irene (Irene Jacob) is a documentary filmmaker interviewing house-workers and showing their working conditions. Her husband Robert (Jerome Kircher) invites his cameraman brother Antoine (Jean-Marc Roulot) to come to Rio and help Irene with her documentary. The documentary storyline gets dropped, though, when Irene and Antoine start shacking up. The second story is about William (Bill Pullman), an American ambassador, running away from his American handlers and getting mixed up...

The film will be available via cable and broadband video-on-demand platforms starting on August 30, ahead of a DVD release on November 15. Last fall, Ronald Emmerich kicked us news that not only did he still have plans for an "Independence Day" sequel, but that he had ideas for two sequels, and Lol-worthy titles for each: "ID4-ever: Part I" and "ID4-ever: Part II."
When we checked in with the director in February of this year as he was promoting the DVD for "2012," we asked for some "ID4-ever" plot details. And, much to our surprise, he delivered. Yet we haven't published Emmerich's thoughts until now. Sorry! First off, he describes the story — which would be set in the present day, over a decade after the alien invasion of the original film — as an "alternate reality" film.
"It's an alternate reality kind of movie," he said. "We pick up the story, what would have happened after this kind of attack? Naturally, the alien technology has changed everything."
Did they rebuild the White House?...

In addition to the previously announced titles, Tiff just keeps adding more great stuff to their line-up.
The most recent announcement (I’m sure there are more to come), includes a couple of interesting titles along with a couple of heavy weights. Up front is Danny Boyle’s story of survival 127 Hours starring James Franco, Casey Affleck’s bizarre biopic/drama I’m Still Here (trailer), Guillem Morales’ great looking Spanish thriller Julia’s Eyes (trailer) and Matt Reeves’ remake Let Me In (trailer).
Other titles which sound promising include Mitch Glazer’s Passion Play, a fable starring Mickey Rourke and sex bomb Megan Fox, Álex de la Iglesia’s insane parody about the Spanish Civil War with clowns The Last Circus and Benoît Jacquot’s Deep in the Woods.
All of the new additions after the break.

As Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver win plaudits for their roles as older women in physical relationships with younger men, one of the most enduring barriers in Hollywood's movie-making history is at last being torn down
When a film star seduces someone 20 or 30 years their junior on screen, the audience doesn't bat an eyelid. In fact, it is an established cinema convention. If the older star is a woman, however, public reaction is harder to predict. But now Hollywood, so long accused of sexism because of the way it treats female talent, finally seems prepared to tackle a subject once regarded as beyond the pale: sex and the sixtysomething woman.
Sigourney Weaver, who stars in this month's new sci-fi blockbuster, Avatar, has revealed that in her next film she is to play the lover of an actor little more than half her age. In Cedar Rapids, Weaver, 60, is cast opposite...
