I am not okay
Calicodreamin3 June 2021
I'm not sure that I'm okay with how that ended! So many open questions, I would have liked for the show to have gone out on their own terms. Gonna miss you Kim's C.

A good finale for an underrated show
SallyWilliams15 April 2021
Sadly it got cancelled, but as we know the gods in tv heaven might show mercy and another network pics the show up. It was a funny & warm portrayal of immigrants in Canada, it was special because of good writing & a fabulous cast.

Obviously the canadian tv producers have a good hand with comedy (just like the other highlight SCHITT'S CREEK), unlike the stereotypical mainstream comedies in the US, with false laugh tracks & stories that mostly offer nothing new. I really would love to see more of these people & more quality tv like this.

season finale, not series finale
mikecmyuan24 February 2022
There were a lot of good bones in this episode, something that would be worthy as a send off to characters wanting to move on (like Shannon) but not so much for a series where we needed to say goodbye to everyone.

I loved the show, but this episode broke my heart that it didn't get a proper send off.

Weird ending for a show that knew it was ending
crryan-9311020 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Typically, when sitcom writers know the show will be ending, the finale is written to close up storylines in a happy way that will leave fans content with the way they've watched the characters grow and their relationships evolve. Most of Kim's Convenience felt like that, and I figured in the final season we'd see our 6.5 main characters all end up happy with themselves and each other--as in, Jung and Shannon's slow burn relationship would end on an uptick, like actually going on the Astounding Trek together, or even just happy; Kimchee finally feeling confident as AM at Handy, or finding something that made him happier; Janet and Gerald finding impactful things to do with their photography degrees we watched them spend 4 years working towards; Appa and Umma retiring, or opening another store, or getting some opportunity to travel like Umma mentions multiple times throughout the series.

Instead, Jung and Shannon break up, and Jung is still working as a backboy at Handy despite having his degree now; Janet is volunteering at some place since it's the only way she can even kind of use her degree, and Gerald is back working at KC, also not using his degree; Umma has a debilitating disease, and Appa really does nothing.

In all, the viewers spend years watching Shannon and Jung fall in love, Janet get her degree and try to find herself, Gerald gain some confidence, Kimchee...moving up the ladder? Appa and Umma are fairly stable characters and oftentimes it's that stability and wisdom that helps the younger characters deal with their own issues. At the end of all of that, literally everything feels like it was, more or less, for nothing. It's a very disappointing ending for characters I'd grown to care a lot about.

I also felt that, for a show that owes so much of its heart to the very real, charming, consistent side characters that pop in as customers at the store, this final season and especially the last episode was lacking when it came to scenes and storylines with these characters.

Honestly just a weird ending. Like the writers watched every single beloved and revered sitcom ending and said "Okay, now don't do any of that."

Also surprised that the final words weren't "See you!" but maybe that would have been a bit much.

Fine ending for a great show
tyson-davis-11-92227723 July 2022
This finale is taking a lot of heat on here. But I liked it. It left a lot of things open to the viewer to resolve on our own, the way we want to. I'm perfectly fine with that with this show (as opposed to the Sopranos.)

While the last half of this season seemed to rush things, I loved the last scene of this episode -- slow and deliberate.

This will be a series I rewatch over and over like Seinfeld, The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

See you!

Terrible end to a great series
lockout-5950616 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I will start this off by saying I truly enjoyed the first 4 season of this show and was excited once season 5 was released.

During the first episode if the 5th season I could already feel something off about the show. It didn't feel like the normal atmosphere is presented and a lot of the storyline felt rushed. I didn't actually realize the series was cencelled and wouldn't be getting 6th season so when it watched the 5th season not knowing it would be the end.

After watching the last episode family and friends i was puzzled as to why so much was packed into the episode and at the same time, poorly executed. Everything seemed rushed in this season but the last episode felt even more so rushed.

Kimchee all the sudden had a desire to learn about his father who walked out on him even though I can't recall him expressing any desire throughout the entire series. I don't really even remember much conversation about his dather period. The last episode saw shannon an jung talking about a game show marriage /engagement which really made shannon made and then all the sudden she wants to split for no real reason. Jung talks to his parents about revitalizing the store out of nowhere and then all the sudden the Kim's are ready to retire. Seriously none of this made sense. Jared's character was completely ignored this entire season including the connection between him an janet at the end of the 4th season. So many things where left unanswered and new questions arose with no hopes of getting an answer. No indication of any characters future or the store's future

In my opinion, this was a completely terrible series ended on par with lost and Game of Thrones. My guess is once the show was known to be cancelled the writers / directors weren't interested in anything other than finishing up filming and moving on. Such a shame as this was a great clean tv series the whole family could watch together and enjoy. Now its 4 seasons of a good show with a terrible chapter. I was looking forward to owning the bluray set but I will never rewatch this series knowing how terribly it ended.

Just overall a disappointment
lexygc15 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My family and I watched it on Netflix (as a family) and the show itself was really funny and had great character archetypes. That is until the writes failed to wrap anything up.

Personally, I watch tv to escape my real life problems

The whole thing with kimchee at the end just hurt and wasn't satisfying, while it works for comedic relief it was not a satisfying ending.

I had high hopes that since they created this whole Jung and Appa butt heads storyline that we would see some kind of conclusion other than everyone just hating on Janet.

Disappointing ending to a great show
petalock-8950414 June 2021
I don't understand the last season. This was such a good show and the last season introduced some interesting little stories for each character that literally went no where. Then the ending was just somewhere between sad and meh. I wish they had done better in giving these characters that we learnt to love over the 5 seasons a better send off. Such a disappointment.

Poor end to a great show
LyonME9 January 2022
We've loved Kim's Convenience and I'm disappointed that it's come to an end. But I think I'm more disappointed that it was closed out with such a pathetic wrap-up. It probably would have been better just to leave it hanging than have such rushed characters closings as in this episode. This show deserved better.

Just as other said it, terrible ending for a great show
sgtGiggsy2 February 2024
I watched the entire series in a course of a week, and it was a super fun ride. Entertaining, lovable characters, absolutely top notch humor, and even some life lessons about accepting each other through our flaws and mistakes.

Then the last season came, and all the warm, cozy feeling the series gave you for four seasons disappeared immediately. The humor turned from heartwarming into embarrassing. The first four seasons didn't contain as much second hand embarrassment humor as some episodes of the fifth one.

Then the last few episodes came, where there was barely any humor. What was instead of this, is rushed storylines dragged out of blue, then being cut just as suddenly without any closure.

And probably the worst of all is the series finale. It felt EXTREMELY rushed, but at least it seemed like it was going toward a closure, then BAMM, nope, they backed out of it entirely. Not just that, but instead of a rushed, but understandable and promising new chapter, they pushed all the characters on a deppressing path.

I didn't check whether the writing crew got changed for the last season, but I honestly can't believe the same people who wrote the first four seasons were responsible for THIS.
