Vince Vaughn will always be thought of as a dry-witted comedian, but writer/director S. Craig Zahler’s ultra-violent Brawl In Cell Block 99 looks to diversify opinions. Instead of crashing weddings, Vaughn is pulverizing skulls. Instead of running his mouth about how “money” people are, he’s quiet, frosty and speaking through dangerous actions. Even with Hacksaw Ridge and True Detective under his belt, this is a new, beastly look for the longtime funnyman, and what a break in character it is. Thoughts about the movie aside, this might be my favorite representation of Vaughn’s talents and not a single joke is needed. Welcome to the game, Vince “I Snap Limbs” Vaughn.
In Zahler’s story, Vaughn stars as Bradley Thomas (not “Brad,” just “Bradley”). We meet him as an honest mechanic, but within minutes, Bradley finds himself laid off on the same day his wife Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter...

But I can still comment and write about the issue of those that have trouble with English anyway (we do however, have a solid substitute below) There’s one thing you have to understand about the English language. It’s very difficult to learn and very, very messy in many regards. Those attempting to learn it for the first time often get very confused and will flub more often than not for simple reasons that we as American citizens find

Jessica Williams: Why She Quit ‘The Daily Show’ and Bet Her Career On ‘The Incredible Jessica James’
Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.
When long-time “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart announced his intention to leave his popular Comedy Central program in February 2015, Jessica Williams received plenty of buzz as a potential replacement that could lead the show into the next era of smart, amusing reporting. Williams, however, had different ideas.
Just weeks earlier, the budding actress and comedian had been bouncing around the Sundance Film Festival, happily hawking her first big movie role in James Strouse’s “People Places Things.” That happiness was definitely earned, because Williams’ work in the film — as a super-smart art student who plays matchmaker for her recently divorced teacher (Jemaine Clement) and her single mother (Regina Hall) — proved that her comedic chops could translate to an entirely new medium.

Moving onto the third Guardians of the Galaxy film with the first two movies being massive successes, director James Gunn took to Facebook to reminisce about his first studio script. That script was the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie. Gunn says he originally wrote a movie made for older audiences, and that the studio had a hand in shaping the, for the most part, disappointing film.
“I had loved the character of Scooby-Doo since I was a kid and was excited at the prospect of making a live action film with 2002's cutting CGI technology(!!). Yes, it was not exactly what we planned going out - I had written an edgier film geared toward older kids and adults, and the studio ended pushing it into an clean cut children's film. Well, there's nothing like sitting through 44 minutes of humdrum narrative to get to one minute of reveal.
But that was the situation on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 20.
Let's go through that humdrum portion first, then hopefully pick up more narrative momentum than this hour did.
Somebody was radioactively poisoning federal workers at random.
Was it The Russians?
That would have made for a more interesting storyline.
But no.
Instead, it was a woman who wanted to get rid of her husband and collect a $5 million insurance payout.
It couldn't be a simple murder. To be Bau worthy, it had to be complicated.
The nurse, a caretaker, had to collect radioactive materials from a bunch of different hospitals, then sandwich her husband's murder among four or five others.
Still, they managed to figure out Sarah's plot and gun her down before the last commercial break.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for the entire run of “Girls,” through the series finale.]
Lena Dunham had a fun suggestion for fans of her iconic HBO comedy “Girls,” which just wrapped its final season on Sunday.
“Max Brockman is one of our writers, and he’s amazing at everything, but he’s sort of like the ‘Girls’ historian. He’s the one that went in and basically looked at each character and told us what the final thing they said in the series was and it was all very poetic,” she said to IndieWire during a recent discussion of the final season. “I encourage you to go home and play the game. You go through most of our main characters, and it’s pretty amazing what the final thing that comes out of their mouth is.”

To their credit, the executive producers of the often controversial series “Girls” knew exactly how and when they wanted to end the series. This not only aided fans in preparing for the end, but the creators, as well. The considerable cultural build-up to the finale was made possible because we all knew this was the final season for Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner’s HBO dramedy.
When considering “Girls” conceptually, it makes sense to assume that the clearest way to close this chapter for these leads is to show their growth away from the term girls: They grow up. They’re not “girls” anymore, but women — adults. Whether or not “Girls” succeeded in this kind of approach varies on how people view these characters and their own definitions of what adulthood is, but “Girls” still had a clear ending to target.

Growing up is complicated, yet for the women of “Girls,” executive producers Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner don’t have an overworked point-of-view on the journeys of the show’s key characters.
In fact, “I feel like kind of nothing happened to [them],” Dunham recently told IndieWire about her own character, Hannah, as well as Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet), Marnie (Allison Williams), and Jessa (Jemima Kirke).

Since marrying the 47-year-old half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the 30-year-old fashion designer has been pretty tight-lipped about her romance, only briefly mentioning him once during an interview with The Edit. Change may be coming slowly to the entertainment industry, but at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, a desire for diversity and inclusion amongst female filmmakers went beyond buzzwords.
Thirty-four percent of all films that screened at Sundance this year were directed by women – in years past, the average has hovered around 25 percent – and female filmmakers were prominent across all sections, with women debuting films in not just the competition sections, but also the forward-thinking Next section, the wild Midnight category (which played home to the long-gestating anthology “Xx,” featuring four shorts directed by women) and even the starry Premieres docket.

The rise of female-directed films was particularly felt at this year’s awards ceremony as two of the four juried competition directing awards went to women: “Beach Rats” helmer Eliza Hittman picked up the award in the U.

Here’s the show description: “Away from their parents, the two friends must summon all their courage to navigate mysteries and wonders of this magical camp where camp counselors are witches, horses become unicorns, and monsters live under the bed. Not all camps offer the opportunity to swim with a talking shark in the swimming pool, crawl under the bed into a different universe, or make friends with the moon, but on Summer Camp Island, anything can happen.”

Actor Mike Colter’s guarded, injured, and ultimately good-hearted turn as Luke Cage was one of the few pleasures the first season of Jessica Jones had to offer. On his own and grounded in a much more immediate and organic sense of place and moment, he doesn’t disappoint. Luke Cage, adapted from the comics created by Archie Goodwin, George Tuska, and John Romita, Sr., is an atmospheric pleasure miles away from the one-note sarcasm of Jessica Jones or the relentless action figure workouts of Marvel’s blockbusters. The thoughtfulness and restraint with which the show approaches the struggle over Harlem’s identity, as embodied by the black men and women living, working, and dying on its streets, is refreshing.

There has been very slight improvement for women and minority TV directors over the past year, according to a Directors Guild of America annual report that was released on Monday. Women directed 17 percent of all episodes, a small increase from 16 percent the prior year, according to the report. Ethnic minorities (male and female) directed 19 percent of all episodes, marking only a 1 percentage point increase over the prior year. 2016-08-17T07:09:07-07:00No Second Chances: Summer Movies Have Hard Time Sustaining Success
So far in 2016, nineteen different movies have held the top spot on the box-office chart, but only four movies released this year have managed to stay at number one for longer than two weeks in a row. In fact, half of the movies that have grabbed the top spot have been unable to hold on to it for longer than a single weekend, giving in to a new release the following week. This summer has been especially tough on potential blockbusters that aspired to a long, successful run in theaters.
Of the four 2016 films that have put together a sustained reign at the top, three of them - Zootopia, The Jungle Book and Finding Dory - are family-oriented movies, and the fourth - Deadpool - is an R-rated comic book adaptation. Each...

Hard time hasn't taught Teresa and Joe Giudice a damn thing if you ask the state of NJ ... which says the 'Real Housewives' stars owe a ton of income tax. According to docs obtained by TMZ ... Teresa was hit with a tax lien for $23,365 in February, just two months after she got sprung from prison. Of course, Joe started his 41-month prison stint in March ... but still managed to get nailed in April for $238,269 of unpaid taxes.

Finally, twelve years after his untimely death, Ray ‘Big Boss Man’ Traylor is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, alongside already announced inductees The Godfather, The Fabulous Freebirds, and Sting. The Boss Man will be honored for his memorable contributions to the wrestling business over a career that spanned three decades.
Starting out in wrestling as a bodyguard for James E. Cornette in Jim Crockett Promotions, the Boss Man’s career would go on to reach huge heights in the late 80’s, when he would enjoy main event level feuds with such names as Hulk Hogan and Randy “Macho Man” Savage.
By the time the 90’s arrived, The Big Boss Man was one of the most popular stars on the WWF roster. If you look at merchandise from that time, Boss Man’s likeness sat side by side with Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Jake Roberts...

Over the course of running things here at Twitch for nearly eleven years now I've had opportunity to come across a pretty solid collection of talents working in the short film world, talents blessed with a force of vision and directing voice clearly and truly their own whose names I tend to file away in a little unofficial list of 'People Who Will Probably Have A Hard Time Making A Feature But Will Make A Really Damn Awesome One When They Do'. Norway's Fredrik Hana has been on that list pretty much from the first time I ever came across him.Gifted with enormous technical talents and a mind that presses him into strange and unusual directions, Hana is one of a kind - his work...

You never know what’s brewing at Webster University’s Strange Brew cult film series. It’s always the first Wednesday evening of every month, and they always come up with some cult classic to show while enjoying some good food and great suds. The fun happens at Schlafly Bottleworks Restaurant and Bar in Maplewood (7260 Southwest Ave.- at Manchester – Maplewood, Mo 63143).
This month, they’re brewing up some Bronson! Hard Times screens at Schlafly Bottleworks Wednesday, April 1st as part of Webster University’s ‘Strange Brew’ Film Series. Tragically, this week’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder contained no pancakes. But what we lacked in breakfast goods, we more than made up for in absolutely spectacular detective and cleaning skills. And murder-framing skills. Mostly that one. Here are the six things you really need to know from last night’s episode, “She’s a Murderer.”
1. Marcia Gay Harden is having a Marcia Gay Hard Time.
Mgh (as Sam’s sister Hannah) and her pet neckerchief are having a series of major meltdowns and snizz snits. She is convinced Annalise killed Sam. She tells the police that she’ll testify to whatever they want if they search the house. Meanwhile, Annalise is teaching her class about the fifth amendment and the importance of saying nothing when questioned. Shit is getting Serial in here.
2. Rudy the mysterious guy is still a mystery.
Cops. Drama. Intrigue. Deception. Christmas cards.
