Could've worked
martincammmc2 March 2022
It's like they read the room and sacrificed storytelling to score points. To refuse to throw in with the police made sense to the story but some of the script was inflammatory. I have no idea what was going on when all the "Real life" business experts (I looked them up) collectively agreed what was the right moral thing to do. It was like the writers decided that maybe having a show about money is tone deaf right now so let's let society write the show.

This episode was pretty fun
jk_sewell28 February 2022
Billions has been a great show for a long time, but it was in need of a refresh - there was only so many times that Axe and Chuck could go toe-to-toe.

What was at first a difficult transition is starting to bed down nicely. I like that the writers has have given Sacker a new lease of life and that they've brought in a new lawyer. Sacker's discomfort at 'losing' for the first time in her life was fun.

Gradually I'm warming to Scooter as well. At first he was just obnoxious and annoying but we are starting to see his humanity. The moment he and Wags shared listening to Harry Chapin was touching, and his relationship with his Nephew is further illuminating.

And finally Prince is starting to get some appeal. The whole holier than though moral superiority play was just getting annoying, but now there are hints of a darker sub-plot with several references to "after". I feel like an almighty "reveal" of Prince's dark and dastardly ulterior motives will be coming at some point.

Only hope Chuck sees it coming (fingers crossed)!

P. S. Reason i didn't give this an 8 was several of the plot lines were a bit silly.

Pop-culture references up the wazoo!!
castortroy-6969218 March 2022
I've loved the show from the start, but something I've noticed lately is the use or overuse of pop-culture references in the recent episodes. Who talks like that in real life?

Literally every. Single. Conversation, no matter what its about, has someone (everyone) going out of their way to throw in a pop-culture reference, as though its suppose to remind us how quirky and clever they are? We don't need reminding!

It used to be thrown in now and then, and seemed like a fun trait for certain characters, but now its obnoxious. Now there's music, sport, or pop-culture reference made in EVERY. SINGLE. CONVERSATION, over dozens of conversations, throughout each episode. To the point where it just makes you roll your eyes.

Hate to say it, but it almost feels like the show is becoming a parody of itself. It's starting to border on being a Family Guy highlights reel of flashback references.

How about capping the "references" to 1-2 per episode, not jammed inside EVERY single conversation or dialogue on the show! No one talks like that!! Who is writing this show? Do you guys actually have friends/co-workers? Wow.

Just my two cents.

More Crap. More Woke.
douglasmcbroom27 February 2022
I am continuing to watch this debacle because I have invested 5 Seasons. I have no expectations, except continued crap and continued woke. Cops described as "state-sanctioned killers?!"

The characters we loved are either gone or have been neutered. The characters we despise have been elevated. The plots are so ludicrous as to be parody.

The series is on life support and is merely waiting for someone to pull the plug.

Otherwise good episode destroyed by garbage propaganda
AmarHamadi28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode was going well until it was ruined by a constant flow of anti cop rhetoric. Brain dead remarks like calling them "state sanctioned killers" makes those characters even dumber than they look. Rhodes assault against billionaires still feels forced and out of place for plot convenience.

When you think this story can't get more out of touch, it does
wrsorg28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you want a short-term dystopia, you'll get to watch a sitting AG sabotage a billionaire donation that would improve the lives of millions of people, and an entrepreneur walk back on his commitment to a fund due to fact that NYPD union was one of the hundreds of investors, which would "destroy the reputation of his firm". No limited partner scrutinizes (much less controls) who invests alongside them.

Also, the notion that the "Prince list" is an oversubscribed and exclusive group that will have 600% or 6000% returns is so laughable. First, no one will commit billions of capital to MPC for Prince to donate money to the government and pursue his Olympics obsession. Last, to the surprise of no one, if you do that, your returns will suck. You can't give in to everyone's demands, pursue a personal dream/agenda, be woke, forfeit profits as they did in several occasions, and be attractive as a fund. The show creates this notion that you can have it all, and that's not real life.

If that wasn't enough, you'll also have to watch NYPD depicted as "state sanctioned killers", as well as the weekly showing of Stacey Abrahams' portrait, whose greatest achievement is - like Trump - to lose an election and undermine our democracy.

This is so bad, and Showtime needs to put an end to the misery.

No longer pink inside
jamdub-619344 March 2022
There was something fresh about the first three seasons of Billions. Season four tested our faith in the show, and we gave billions a pass. We gave it a pass because we genuinely enjoyed the first three seasons. Season five barely survived the pandemic, as we all barely survived the madness. But this season is overcooked.

In movies, television series and acting in general, there is a fine line between make believe and realism. If you can believe it, it works for the audience in comedy, drama, and fantasy. If you can't believe it, but the story is good, it may still work as fantasy. Billions is not supposed to be fantasy. The character writing is so beyond how people (Wall Street or not) speak; the lack of ideas for this season has forced the writers into adding more unrealistic verbiage. So much so that each scene comes off as sketch. The believability has been lost and we are done here! It was a good thing while it lasted, but the countdown is on.

Way to go Hollywood
Vamp2127 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really used to like this show, but watching this episode and hearing that Police are just "state sanctioned killers". And seeing anti police sayings and pictures why ?

If Hollywood really wants to defund police tell criminals don't commit crime, less crime less police.

I will never watch this show again....

Uh????

Warning: Spoilers
So the prince list of investments has the police pension. You've got a person of color wanting his money out of the fund because police pensions is part of fund. Why is this garbage in the show? What happened to the intensity and intellect of these groups under axe? Now it's social justice warriors. Who is this show appealing to now? I can't imagine it's the reality tv generation. It's not me anymore.

Left wing woke BS including poster of Stacy Abrams
johninvaldosta28 February 2022
Did no one notice the poster of Stacy Abrams, democratic candidate for Georgia Governor, in the board room as the guy stormed out after demanding removal of the NYPD? And shortly afterwards the NYPD is described as " sanctioned killers". And they have been repeatedly showing the current NY governor as corrupt This season is a blatant attack on Capitalism while saying " big government is good ".

I've had it. Will never watch another episode of this show or anything the writers do in the future. I hope the people responsible some day need the police and they respond accordingly.

Please stop-
nytrip91121 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Producers, Taylor was right. Forcing your views on someone else and then shaming you if you don't agree isn't leadership, it's extortion. Don't you see the irony in that? But. That line wasn't enough to balance this virtue-signaling film disguised as entertainment in order for us to actually want to watch it. The cops was the last straw. So much has changed since hating the cops was popular #2020. Now crime is rampant and it turns out that we need them, especially in the hood. But since no one on the show actually lives there or even remembers what it's like there, all they're doing is embarrass themselves and continue to glorify a criminal as a hero to justify vilifying the police we need with demands for defunding them. I think "Government sanction killers" was the direct quote.

Go woke go broke
tonyd-481541 March 2022
I couldn't even bring myself to finish this episode and will never be watching the show again. Referring to police as state sanctioned killers is not only grossly incorrect but highly offensive to the great police that dedicate their life to make the life of others safer. So much anti-cop rhetoric, it's absolutely disgusting and can't believe it even made it into the show. What a sharp fall from its peak, they had the chance to make this show decent even without Axe but have ruined it with all this woke absolute trash.

Time to cancel
mviken913 March 2022
It's about time to cancel the show. I don't even know what's happening anymore, and there's nothing exciting. This have become another straight up mediocer tv-series. Before I was sort of inspired by the drive in the series. I couldn't wait for the next episode. Today I realized I hadn't seen the last three episodes, and now I feel I could've lived without seeing them.. They should either hire new writers, take a two year break to plan a solid new way, or take a break until Damian Lewis might be ready to come back. All they do now is killing the characters I once loved and hated. Now a days I don't know who's who anymore.

Horrible
mmfun-491336 March 2022
I used to love this show especially, the first three seasons. They should've mercifully ended it when Axe landed in Switzerland. The current plot line is woke, absurd, boring- nobody actually does any work at the firm. They just stand around and repeat monotonous clichés and ridiculous lines. After criticizing the police and calling them killers, I will never ever watch this ridiculous spectacle again. Absolutely terrible. Even the acting turned wooden. In addition the characters themselves became terrible.

summervale1 March 2022
Save yourself, run, it's too late for me, I've seen this episode. It's nauseating. Only watch this if you've had a full frontal lobotomy or it will feel like you've had to ne. This season is shaping up to be the worst of them all.

DISGUSTING use of a former position
brooksrob113 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hearing those idiots insinuate that the police are government paid killers infuriated me...

It's getting to pandering to that group. In other words, favoring one party...Where the disabled managers? One Asian?

I see I share this view with other reviewers...This formerly great TV show is now as pathetic as CNN...

This is no longer Billions..
ecsecs-912257 March 2022
It's been made very clear this show's original creators and writers are no longer involved. Showtime apparently has replaced them with woke activist. This is beyond tragic, this show used to be so good, a FAIR TAKE on capitalism, government, and the conflicts of interest between the two. Now it's nothing more than a platform for extreme left woke ideology.

Showtime why go this route? Viewers want to be entertained not lectured to on your divisive political views and disingenuous virtue signaling. I feel bad for your actors. No doubt they just want to work and be part of show that a large audience can enjoy.
