Continues to be two different shows
kariverson14 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm convinced this show has two set of writers. One for the STD (Star Trek Discovery) Michael Burnhams and one for for the empire storyline.

My Gawd the Sheldon story with the 2 girls that I can't even remember their names, it is UNBEARABLE. Unwatchable. Did they really hang on one giving the other some air underwater for that long? They kind of wanted to make it feel like a kiss, they are mother and daughter, what the @#$&??? 2/10

Empire storyline is very cool! Interesting, better shot, better written, better dialogue. I don't get it. How is it so different. It was like that last season too. 8/10.

Can we please fire the set of writers that write the space holy Marys?? They're awful.

I understand the hate.
arthuroliveira-6536715 July 2023
I really understand the anger and hate from fans of the book series (that i also read all 7 novels from Asimov) as it is not as faithful, especially in the genetic dynasty part and very expanded roles fro characters who only screen by few chapters like Gall Dornick .

But it as a standalone series is great and I see it in the same way as they adapted for tv Handmaid tale from Margaret Atwood on Hulu Streaming. Both are adaptations that take the books and add a lot of new material and even modify them a lot without taking away their essence. And both are very good series as a standalone live action midia.

Remains a far cry from Asimov
demodokos3 August 2023
It's not Foundation. I seriously doubt any of the writers could pass an elementary test on Asimov's style, much less the contents of Foundation the novel. I suppose along the way if so many have said that Asimov's masterpiece couldn't make it to the screen, that they decided not to try, and play off a handful of ideas and character names. That said, and despite the herky-jerky acid-trip storyline of this first episode of season 2, it at least tells a story, of sorts, which is a whole lot more than a lot of TV today. Still, after watching it, I feel in need of a mental shower and must grasp one of my copies of Foundation off the shelf and read for a while to cleans myself of this amateurish Apple TV nonsense. Hey, instead of watching this, go watch one of those car chase movies, you know the ones, at least they don't insult you by pretending to be cerebral. Get some nitrous for the writers.

A guide about how to ruin a masterpiece
marianciobanuz17 July 2023
Well, in the first episode from this season you can see a guy makes love with a weird female version of the greatest android character of all times, before his wedding with a real woman, a mouth to mouth saving operation between a weird girl with a chicken haircut and her younger teenage mother (they were sex switching characters too) who considers her almost sexual moves as inapropiate and they even discuss about this, you know like two lovers you after a sex party and we also have an old guy screaming nonsensical words like a drunk dude. That is Foundation in the eyes of the Hollywood writers and producers. IMHO the writers from Hollywood should be all fired, because it is obvious they are just a bunch of low class creators. I feel mentally ill after watching this episode. - Do you want to see something great..?... then i invite you to see 3 Body Problem chinese tv series from Tencent youtube channel,it is free to watch, it is even in a 4K version and it has english subtitles, that is a masterpiece made from passion for sci fi genre. I refuse to give a rating to Foundation because it is so low.

Not your grandparent's Foundation
LuckyPaddy15 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
TV shows based on books rarely stay true to the source material. This show is no exception.

The story is good enough to watch, but I will wait until the whole season is out before I watch another episode. I like the visuals and the multiple visuals for each world. This universe feels vast. I do feel like Cleon's court/throne room is a little small for an individual of his stature. I guess they had to save on VFX for later in the season. Costumes seen on Trantor are colorful and grandiose. They look impractical and uncomfortable to wear.

I am not a fan of Cleon and Demerzel's friendship. It strays too far from the books and has me worried about their Role in the overall story of the Foundations.

I can't wait to watch it all after the season ends.

This is the best Sci Fi show on TV!
scottmannen114 July 2023
Love this show. In a world of bad tv shows and political movies this show beats them all. Somehow it manages to pull off an infinitely complex script that is intellectually fascinating yet mixes it with wonderful sci-fi imagery and action! Best show on TV at the moment. Lee Pace is a masterclass actor and so are the actors that play Harry Seldon and Gale Dornick.

Ultimately if you didn't see season one then you may have trouble engaging with season two so I would recommend watching that first for sure. The plot and story takes place over hundreds of years and it is amazing that they can pull this off while keeping things engaging.

Setup episode with some shocking moments
sedzickaanastazja14 July 2023
The first episode of the season had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. The first scenes are quite shocking. Overall, a setup episode.

The storylines felt more even in terms of quality, a big improvement compared to S1. I also see the attempt to emphasize the "bigger picture" instead of individual actions and personalities, more similar to the books. Some efforts were made to add some humor, something that I was missing in S1.

In terms of individual arcs: found the Empire one as always outstanding. We are learning something new about Demerzel, her arc is very intriguing. Other arcs improved a lot as well, I feel more curious about them.

Great space shots, overall visuals are very impressive.

Beautiful and epic
greenebronze20 July 2023
I just finished this episode and have absolutely loved this show. Every single actor, all of the artists involved, all did such a beautiful job. Every part of it has been gorgeous and moving and I can hardly wait until Friday to see the next episode. Thank you all for making this monumental piece of art, it's been the best show I've seen in a long time.

I imagine it's near impossible to take novels and transform them into a visual piece but what you have created transported me to Asimov's world and then some. It's so rare that a show captures me so deeply. Every single detail, the lighting, costumes, sculpture, digital artistry, acting, writing, all perfection <3.

Good start
s_j_e18 July 2023
Great first episode to the new season. This was pretty weird to begin with (poor Demerzel!) but by the end you could kinda see where it was going (if you squint hard enough!!!). Hopefully resolved a couple of the plot twists from season one. I can now almost imagine how the Second Foundation might end up on Trantor, as in the books, instead of Helicon. The first three books were so thin and prosaic, the writers here are doing a great job to make the story interesting! And Lee Pace! Those abs!!! My only real criticism here is that rescuing the sunken spaceship seemed too easy (flick a switch!). Could perhaps have used a little more of Salvor's nous, that she showed with the Invictus in season one!

What happened?
skywardeye-6257125 July 2023
The first season was so well crafted, with well write dialogue and intriguing characters. It wasnt perfect but it had so much going for it that I was so excited for season 2. This season premiere felt like a completely different show. Everything has been dumbed down. Poor editing choices, why did we jump around so much in one episode? The action scene felt out of place. On the nose and strange dialogue. "Someone get me a blasted robe so my manhood isn't flapping around". This is cringe dialogue by the Emperor himself. People are just telling you what they did instead of us experiencing it with them. Feels like you could boil this episode down to 5-10mins and still fit in all the plot points. Potentially another show being driven into the ground by odd choices and poor writing. Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breathe.

Amazing Imagery
dhandley-1384715 July 2023
I've never posted a review on IMDB before but I want to say how much I enjoyed the first episode of Series 2. It's been a long wait and I haven't read the books, so I had to read the synopsis of Series 1, which is complicated and confusing. But who cares when this production is so magnificent? I try my best to follow the story but in the meantime I'm loving the imagery, the colour, the amazing CGI which is pretty much perfect, and the brilliant screenplay. I have no complaints, I've loved all of Foundation, especially the brilliant Lee Pace and Jared Harris. If anyone hasn't see Lee Pace in "Halt & Catch Fire" well...just watch it! His on-screen presence is simply awesome. Plus he's gotta be the sexiest man alive right now. Worth a 10 just for that!

A thrilling start to a new chapter.
ergo-5853415 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The second season of Foundation, the ambitious sci-fi adaptation of Isaac Asimov's classic novels, kicks off with a bang. The first episode, titled "In Seldon's Shadow", picks up 100 years after the events of the season 1 finale, and introduces new characters, new conflicts and new mysteries.

The episode follows three main storylines: Gaal Dornick (Lou Llobell) and Salvor Hardin (Leah Harvey), who are reunited on Gaal's home planet of Synnax after a century of cryosleep; Hari Seldon (Jared Harris), who is trapped inside the Prime Radiant, a device that contains his predictions of the future; and Brother Day (Lee Pace), who faces an assassination attempt and a political marriage on Trantor, the capital of the Galactic Empire.

The episode does a great job of balancing the different plots and characters, giving each enough screen time and development. The show continues to impress with its stunning visuals, especially the scenes on Synnax, where Gaal and Salvor have to escape from a deadly storm. The episode also delivers some exciting action sequences, such as Brother Day's fight with the Blind Angels, a group of fanatical rebels who want to overthrow the Empire.

The episode also sets up some intriguing questions for the rest of the season, such as: What is the Prime Radiant's agenda? What is the Vault's connection to Hari Seldon? Who is behind the attack on Brother Day? And what is the next crisis that will threaten the Foundation and the Empire?

Foundation season 2 episode 1 is a strong start to a new chapter of this epic saga. It manages to be both faithful to the source material and creative in its own right. Fans of the show and newcomers alike will find plenty to enjoy in this thrilling premiere.

You can watch Foundation season 2 episode 1 on Apple TV+.

Apple TV + is Back!!!!
moviesfilmsreviewsinc17 September 2023
The show is set to face another crisis, involving all characters, including Brother Day and Jared Harris as Hari Seldon. The second crisis is a massive war between the Empire and Hari Seldon's alliance, which could be a crazy turn of events. The first episode is slow and lacks a recap, making it worth watching season 1 before jumping into the series. The production design is good, but there is nothing to stand out in comparison to other sci-fi series. The narrative lacks depth and substance, and the show hopes to pick up in the coming episodes. Foundation, a modern remake of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, has been a controversial and controversial show. Released three years ago, the creators adapted the series from Isaac's book and adapted it into a film. The show follows Hari Seldon, a madman, as he navigates his past and his relationship with Gael, a madman. The episode explores Hari's childhood, including his curiosity and intelligence, and the ciffhanger between his mother and father. Salvor and Gaal reveal their familial ties, despite being separated for a long time. As the episode progresses, the duo continue to hang out, fishing and discussing their strange powers. Salvor can access the past, while Gaal can look at the future, making them one and whole. Meanwhile, Brother Day and Demerzel engage in sex, but an assassin steals Demerzel's head and uses her as a shield. Brother Day fights against the Foundation on Terminus, a 173-year-old metropolis, but is betrayed and killed. Demerzel saves him and carries him to a regenerative pod, where she needs mending. The Warden and Director believe Hari Seldon may be coming, but it turns out he is in the Prime Radiant with Gaal and Salvor. Gaal is not trusting Hari Seldon, and he is trapped in data storage. Salvor questions Gaal's motives, pointing out it's been 138 years and she's afraid. Salvor learns how to use it, but there's a second crisis coming, and they need to prepare for the inevitable age of darkness, which Hari predicted may never end. Brother Day, now healed, learns from the Shadow Master that the assassins he encountered were Blind Angels. He kills the Shadow Master, believing he is responsible for the incident. Day conducts a neural assessment on Dusk and Dawn, paranoid that one may be the real orchestrator. Demerzel is also back on the mend, and they welcome guests to Trantor, where they receive rare samples of pigments and a gold statue of Trantor. During the conversation, Demerzel reveals that they have found a body containing Imperial nanites that has been recovering from space for nearly a decade. The brothers were too busy investigating the corruption within the Genetic Dynasty to notice this. The Anacreons are responsible for Terminus and the surrounding area, and the group realizes that the silence and darkness surrounding the outer system have been by design. Dusk urges Day to crush the new alliance before it's too late, but Day is unsure and insists on getting his house in order. Meanwhile, Hari Seldon escapes the Prime Radiant by solving a spacial awareness puzzle and finds Salvor's recovered ship. They have a reckoning, and the episode concludes with the brothers resolving the mystery of the outer system.

Gobleydegook in it's finest form
terrylarosa17 July 2023
I've no idea what happened in the entire episode. Not that I can't follow convoluted storytelling; it's just that I was bored into a coma and could not focus on any of the immensely unlikable and uninteresting characters. The first season was mildly entertaining but if this is the direction it's going I may bow out. Reminded me of the complete mess Raised by Wolves became in its second season. This is certainly not the best sci-fi show on TV. With the exception of the visuals it has nothing going for it, especially the storytelling. Hopefully this is a messy bump for the beginning of the season and some lucidity might return.

Just a total let down
bendiksendan15 July 2023
This show fails to tell the story of the foundation, in this first episode of season two Lee Pace's abs got actual more screen time than the actual foundation, right? It shows nothing of the actual dynamics of the galactic breakup or the development of the foundation as unstoppable historic forces and goes down several non sequitur rabbit holes where Seldon's consciousness is in several places, and there are mystical visions that nullifies the whole point of psychohistory and hence the point of the Seldon plan... while shows certainly can adapt their source materials, the choices made in this reduces a great scifi story to incoherent mysticism.

OMG. This is SO MUCH WORSE than the first season
paketep17 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
And the first season was TERRIBLE!

I get it. You've got Jared Harris, and you want him to act, but this.. this is terrible. This is David S. Goyer, again, doing the exact opposite of what Foundation is.

Why spend the money just to step all over Asimov's grave? And the acting is on par now. Even Lee Pace looks like he's getting discouraged. No wonder, reading the scripts must have been a shock.

After the first season, I couldn't believe they could do much worse, but if this is the beginning I fear where we'll be in the end.

Congratulations, Mr. Goyer. You've outdone yourself. In the worst possible way.

"Based on Isaac Asimov's Foundation"? Please, change that and write "we took some names".

Still Terrible Writing
troglodytemk29 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was an improvement over last season, insofar as Jarod Harris was able to flex his acting muscles. Despite this, the writing remains dreadful, with people making idiotic decisions and dialogue that beggars belief. Dornick and Hardin are floating around in a waterworld, with a hurricane rapidly approaching, and a ship that can't fly. Hardin tells Dornick that unless they let Hari Seldon loose from the McGuffin Cube they're going to get smashed by the storm, and what does Dornick say? It's "too risky because Hari and I parted on unpleasant terms"? WHAT?? Sure, let's die because Hari might be upset with me. Unreal.

Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin remains utterly jarring in her lack of gravitas as the former Warden of Terminus; in fact watching her and Gaal Dornick sit around and have rap sessions feels more like an intrusion into an adolescent girls' slumber party than watching two characters around whom the fate of the galaxy pivots. The practice of modern young writers to have characters in the midst of crises stop and chat about their feelings is ludicrous and, frankly, puerile.

just awful
flowirin20 July 2023
Do you remember when you were young, and went out to watch experimental stage shows, that had a stage set in black, with a single spotlight, and some overwrought shakesperian wannabe over acting terribly?

Well, if you never did that, the opening 2 weeks (subjective time) of this episode will quickly fill you in on the joys you missed. There is nothing quite like a thespian in full ham mode, and foundation nails it.

Intersperse this cringeworthy explosion with tedious reminders of the rest of the cast who either can't act, or have the most tedious twaddle to work with, and all the sins of the awful season one come back in full force, with none of the relief that the good bits at the time had to offset.

TV for masochists only.

Good and bad
defsan18 July 2023
Season 1 started strong and overall was mostly introduction to the world of Foundation. As a fan of book series I knew there will be no way to follow the books for the TV adaption, and I made my piece with that. And overall made me excited to keep on watching.

Season 2 started pretty bad. I've registered on IMBD just to comment on this. You can't destroy Hari Seldon character without destroying entire idea of the series. You understand that he is the whole purpose behind Foundation? "You never finished psychohistory". Mam, he not only finished it, he built safeguards which are revealed later in books. You can't destroy his character without destroying entire series.

Great story but....
ruihongzhu18 July 2023
David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman have masterfully woven a captivating narrative that delves deep into complex concepts like the interaction between four-dimensional spacetime and our reality, the dichotomy of humans and nature, the juxtaposition of power and eternity, as well as the relationship between artificial intelligence and humanity. They've presented us with a truly exceptional piece of film and television work. However, one drawback is that this series bears no connection to the novel sharing its title.

Without the title, you can't tell that this one from Apple TV was the same as the famous story.

This keeps getting stupider and worse.
joh-nyberg30 September 2023
If only there were well thought-out books to base this show on... If they just would have changed som names, this show could have been done without licensing the rights the books.

It is very frustrating to watch, but I have to admit that it is interesting to see how stupid and bad it will get. This episode basically doesn't contain anything from the books (except some names). I can understand wanting to do something original, but I can't understand why then licens the Foundation books if you intend to not even use them as as starting point but merely an inspiration.

This episode is the worst one so far, but I am confident that there will be worse ones.

Excessive depiction of violence
nourryanthony15 July 2023
I'm ok with nudity and sex but not with the excessive depiction of violence.

It overshows the aim to go with impressive graphic content at low cost while special effects could have been used elsewhere in this episode, thus making scenes with needed special effects for the science show it is are way too neglected.

Also the episode could have come with a reminder of what happened in the last season or a smoother transition because after one year it is hard to remember where we left at. This make that spectators have to watch back the previous episode from last season.

Overall pretty much deceived for such a long wait.

TV MA all of a sudden
laceycrigler29 July 2023
Oh well, done watching this show, it went and got all smutty and full of f words. I have to continue to type apparently to be able to put this on here. It was also more violent. This had absolutely had unnecessary nudity. I am still a bit foggy on what's going on here but I don't think the language and nudity are necessary for entertainment and so will not continue to watch this show. The first season was kinda cool and a tangled web that seemed to finally start to come together but I'm betting Isaac Asimov didn't intend this sorry to be so smutty and full of foul lazy language. Surely people in the future learn more descriptive adjectives.
