Why holidays?...instead of just one
justnisa24 November 2021
I'm Catholic but still can find it offensive that only Christmas is thought of in shows. Two of five contestants were Jewish, another Japanese. Why limit it to Christmas? I also want to add that Alexander was ripped off.

6/10 mostly for the intricacy of the glass blowing
dcsmith-0501619 November 2021
I was enthralled with watching the glass blowers challenge themselves and display their creativity, at the end of each challenge I was so amazed. I wish there was a bit more description behind exactly what they're doing to execute the task, like what tools do what or why they don't always wear gloves.

I don't like the host, his puns and trying too hard to get a laugh annoyed me. The second judge had the personality of a mop - why not explain the complexity of the execution? Tell us how hard it is to achieve what the glass blowers have done instead of giving a short judgement. Change the host and I'd watch another season. Maybe more contestants too.

Very strange series of episodes
rajid-ibn-hanna7 February 2022
Why was the guy from Queer Eye there? He knows nothing about glass and thus has no appreciation of the artistry and skills needed. He constantly asks stupid questions about what's happening, because he doesn't know! If I were an artist being told to leave the shop by this guy, I would frankly ask "who are you to judge my work, dude! You know nothing of my art!"

I know, they see people watching this show, so they're pushing the Queer Eye guy into the show in hopes of pushing up the other show ratings, but it just doesn't make sense. Go back to having judges who know what they're judging!

Very Cool (err... hot)
kkmgirl-448-1119882 December 2023
First of all, I LOVE that people keep such an awesome art form alive. Mind blown. But I wish there was more focus on the artists than on the terrible chemistry exhibited by the hosts. The guy has ZERO experience and shouldn't even be a judge (let alone try to be funny), while Katherine is definitely qualified but seems uncomfortable trying to be an "entertaining host." To the reviewers who disagree with the theme, the contestants weren't complaining so why are you? They took each challenge and interpreted it relative to their experience which I think made it even more interesting. They didn't have to go on the show if they hated the holidays, so get over it. But like most, I agree that episode 1 was ridiculous in voting off Andi who made a gorgeous piece versus the guy who didn't even finish his. Pitting contestants with similar skill levels against each other is a lot more thrilling than watching questionable judging policies. I'm a nerd and would have appreciated more "learning" but I know that wasn't the purpose here. 7 stars for gorgeous set production and cinematography without too much artist commentary/interviews cutting into the real star of the show which is the blowing. There was a Food Network holiday competition a few years ago featuring a NY glass blower vs a cake maker and it was fascinating to see the technique, stress, and choreography that goes into this art form. We don't need goofy hosts- just more glass!

Bad call episode 1
segalsculptor21 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Andy should not have been eliminated in episode one. Edgar piece Was sloppy and not complete. I understand why Catherine didn't like Andi's concept but it was beautifully executed. Edgar's was just bad across the board. Seems like Catherine has had it in for Andi.

Just my opinion. Otherwise excellent show. So much fun to watch.

Improvement
aliholly-6281929 November 2021
I think this special season was an improvement on the first two. I appreciated the lack of bad mouthing other contestants. I also appreciated the attempt at teaching us more about technique and what different tools are for, which I had an issue with in the other seasons. One foolish reviewer said both the hosts have no experience with glass blowing, which is absurd because Katherine Gray is very much a professional. It DOES seem counterintuitive having a host with no knowledge of the art judging and critiquing but I actually get it. Most of the viewers are not professional glass blowers and we have differing opinions on what we like and don't, so having that inexperienced judge gives the glass blowers something to work for because their art, if they want to sell it has to be appealing to others.

Great Art Work
flower-1258518 December 2021
I don't understand the harsh critics seems like many people were upset with the outcome. This was a fast show presenting art work with a Christmas theme. Everyone was a highly skilled artist and the show overall had a great vibe to it. I enjoyed it, it felt a little bit lighter as the other two seasons which I would also recommend.

Christmas spectacular
Calicodreamin20 November 2021
Fun for them to bring back past blown away competitors to star in this Christmas themed spectacular. The challenges were interesting and the artists made some beautiful glass. The winner was well deserved.

Delightful series!
Abbena25 February 2023
First off I'm glad a shorter series was made! I would love them to explore more series based on different types of holiday themes. I'm not sure if I got invested in the main episodes to be fair.. I did watch them but took a huge hiatus. I've had a netflix account for years and it's only now I'm really truly utilising it to the fullest and discovering things I like on here. Its February but I felt like it was really the Holidays. This limited BLOWN AWAY spinoff is heartwarming, full of laughter and lightness and would not be as intensive as the main episodes would be. Less contestants, more goofing around, and to be honest I didn't mind the co host. I thought he was silly in a good way I don't understand some of the reviews.. I Would very much recommend this even if you haven't seen the main series and looking for a rather uplifting reality TV competition show to watch!

I would watch anything with Cat Burns
johntwatterson3 August 2022
If Cat Burns, and Nao Yamamoto where to get their own series... I would watch 10 seasons! I would absolutely get rid of the judges! The female judge talks all this about how skilled she is, and the viewers never see anything of her skill, she's all criticism. I'd call that "all blow and no go ". Additionally I would love to see if they could actually make a show on Netflix that does not push a political agenda! Bringing back an extremely unskilled glassblower just to add a little color to the melting pot, robbed another more skilled contestant from the opportunity to do so. Not only was this contests skills unpolished, he was also the most arrogant of the entire field of contestants. Just in the previous season in which he appeared, the bar was set low... The bare minimum was executed, and not executed well. Bringing back this contest in boggled my mind! Perhaps the week is contestant in three seasons, the only possible reason that could exist, was it was simply political? (Your resumes impeccable... But we need a blue skinned female for the position)

Blown Opportunity
ohroonoko1 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Right off the bat, we see that they replaced Nick Uhas with Bobby Berk. Big mistake. Nick brought viewers into the show more than anyone, because he saw the world of glass blowing through the viewers' eyes. And he had gone through two full seasons learning about the ins and outs of it right along with us. That journey is wasted by dumping him for Bobby Berk. Bobby shows no sincere interest in glass blowing. He's just there to ham it up and be funny, which he certainly is not. I guess the producers just wanted to attempt to raise the profile of the show and attract more viewers by getting a more famous and flamboyant host.

Next, we see the contestants. Alex walks out and I'm thinking he was one of the best runner-ups. So this Christmas special will be a mix of old and new contestants? Then, Edgar walks out and I'm puzzled. Edgar was one of the earliest eliminations in season 1, and frankly probably the LEAST SKILLED glass blower in all seasons combined. OK, I guess it's nice to give him another chance, maybe he's gotten better (he hasn't). Then Andi, one of my favorite glass blowers and probably the most under appreciated by the judges/evaluators. Very glad to see her, but it makes Edgar look even more set up to fail. And then Cat walks out, she probably could have won Season 2, she is the most technically skilled glass blower in my opinion. So how the heck does Edgar make it on this show? The the final contestant, Nao, a very competent glass blower with a whimsical style. Solid choices for competitors except Cat is so good, and Edgar is so bad. Seriously, how does he make it on the roster?

And then we get to the first elimination in episode 1. It's nice to see how everyone improved their skills since the previous season. Except for Edgar. Edgar admits he just forgot the string on the kendama which makes his piece incomplete. That should be an automatic elimination. The ball isn't even a perfect sphere, which becomes even more obvious Alex made 9 perfect spheres with his orrery. Andi made one of her signature abstracts that show off advanced glass blowing techniques, and which Bobby said looked very beautiful, but he just didn't get the concept. Well, they eliminated Andi instead of Edgar. Andi had so much more potential for at least one more episode. I feel like having Edgar on this roster and then not wanting to eliminate him in the first episode was really a producer's decision, not an honest competition and judging decision. In my opinion the producers of the show prioritized a POC checklist over the competition, which taints the whole competition as being rigged. Edgar had NO CHANCE winning this show against all these far, far better competitors. It's infuriating that they gave him one of the 5 spots understanding this. Pretty much anyone else from season 1 or 2 would have been better. Or even throw in a wild card, a brand new competitor. That would have been really interesting.

Poor
alberthelms9 December 2021
Terrible presenters spoiled this show and made an absolute mockery of the talented contestant. That male presenter is obnoxious and negative, has no clue about anything it seems. Waste of time.

Justice for Alexander!
alicestemme19 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alexander was cheated! Anyone with working eyesight could see that Naos' tree ornaments were hideous. There is no argument she has a lot of talent when it comes to creating cutesy stuff, but what she produced for the challenge in episode 3 was far beneath the quality of the other two contestants. There was definitely some inequity choosing the winner if the challenge. Her tree could have been designed by a 4 year old, whereas Alexander's one was sophisticated and ambitious both in design and execution. Shameful.

Extremely Disappointed
lisab6136721 November 2021
Didn't get far viewing this edition. EXTREMELY poor judging! One judge was totally unfamiliar with blowing glass and not qualified to even be a judge. I have watched all the prior shows in the series. I, will not, however, watch again in the future.

Trash compared to season 1 and 2
sbmscqf28 November 2021
Season 1 and 2 were very good! Nick Uhas did a great job at hosting and the judging was reasonable.

The Christmas special is complete trash, judging decisions made no sense and the host is terrible.

If this fool hosts season 3 I won't be watching. Better get Nick back or you've screwed up a great show!

Unfair, Not Inclusive, and Fixed Winner
meaio72 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was the worst Blown Away season. The fact that they decided to do a "Christmas" season, rather than just a simple "Winter" theme, was ridiculous. Out of 5 contestants, three of them don't celebrate Christmas, but were expected to not only produce work that related to Christmas gifts, but to decorate a Christmas tree as well. In the last episode, the challenge is to create a Winter Wonderland installation, with no mention of needing to relate to the holidays, yet Katherine asks Nao whether her installation will "be a nice Holiday theme," to which Nao appropriately reacts in a confused manner.

Moreover, Cat should have never been brought back. These positions should have been reserved for those who previously finished third place or lower, but showed a high degree of skill and potential. If a second chance was going to be given to a previous finalist, it is only fair that both contestants from Season 1 and 2 would be brought back.

Episode 1: Edgar should have been eliminated. Contestants were judged on design, creativity, and technical skill. The judges were disappointed in both his technical execution, stating it as being "rough," and that he forgot to add the string despite having more than enough time to make it. Andi, on the other hand, should not have been eliminated. Her piece was very creative, and she executed it beautifully, with the judges praising her colours and ridges. The only negative remark was that the judges were somehow "confused" about the design concept, even with the supporting back story, which is odd considering it very clearly reads as an abstract depiction of candy.

Episode 2: Alexander should have won this challenge. Contestants were judged on design, technical skill, and realism. His piece aced all three. The judges praised the realism and accuracy of the jar, as well as the beauty of the marbling effects on the fish. Bobby said there was nothing for him to pick apart. Alexander decided not to include the cheese so it wouldn't distract from the fish, and the judges only said they wanted him to include it because they loved the piece so much, that it left them wanting more. The only criticism was that it could have been displayed more centered on the podium. Cat should not have won. While the judges praised Cat's overall realism, they did criticize her grapes as the coloring and opacity were not realistic. Alexander had no criticism on his realism.

Episode 3: Cat should have been eliminated. Contestants were judged on design, concept, technical skill, and overall presentation. Bobby specifically says for the design he wants to see a story, not a bunch of random pretty pieces, and he wants them all to mean something. Cat's Christmas tree topper is the only one that does not relate to the rest of her tree. Her tree references the German tradition of hiding a pickle in the tree, and the sun topper does not relate to that at all. The pickle ornament is the only piece that tells a story. The rest is all just pretty ornaments used as filler. They do not add to the story in any way, unlike Nao and Alexander's pieces in which every single ornament, including the topper, has a meaning and adds to the overall story. Cat receives critism on her choice of colour, as does Nao, as well as her poor display decisions, as does Alexander, but the use of ornaments simply as filler, and lack of connection from the tree topper to the overall story deserves an elimination.

Overall this season was extremely disappointing. The decision to not only bring Cat back onto the show, but to give her a win over Alexander in the second episode, and send Alexander home instead of her in the third episode were horrible and unfair. After watching the entire season, it is very evident that Cat was chosen as a fixed winner. In conclusion, this season was not inclusive to non-Christians, made unjust elimination decisions, and overall appeared to cater to one particular contestant.

Bad production
maltevilain28 November 2021
From the 1st episode you could see, that Blown Away: Christmas was produced to have a fixed winner. The production team did everything they could to make their preferred contestant win.

It was awful and unbecoming of an a show that has made 2 good season so far.

I'm reluctant to watch the next season that comes out.

Cheated out
desouzagd20 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Alexander definitely should've won the challenge on episode 3. Nao made something totally out of the regulations and was not even Christmas related, while Alexander made a perfect artwork with a unique twist to the holiday theme. In the end, it's fun to watch but you can see that it's rigged.

Frustratingly poor judging
indigo-581044 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The judging techniques on this show are ridiculous. No discernible way to follow what standards the judges use. Andi getting sent home the first round while Edgar stays? Ridiculous, feels like they already have who will enter the next round predetermined.

Love watching the artists, but the set up and the judges made this show unwatchable. One can only take so much babble and banal observations. This art deserves better!

3 of the 5 contestants don't even celebrate Christmas
stephaniemccann-5810727 November 2021
I'm all for inclusion and diversity, but they ask for the contestants to draw inspiration from personal experience that they don't have...because they don't even celebrate the holiday! I love Blown Away but was disappointed in this version.

Contrived
docdoug-9807828 November 2021
I find the human side contrived and (like the first series) the judging screwed. They favor the most arrogant and unpleasant artist, instead of judging the work alone. Seems rigged. I love glass, and some of the work is beautiful.

Cracked
loudanswan20 November 2021
I love glass, in any shape, form, colour, size and design. These 5 artists did not disappoint.

A really talented group of individuals.

Unfortunately, having such empty vessels as presenters, brought the whole thing down to a crack.

Even with all the celebrity and knowledge and design skill, it lacked shine and transparency and excitement, and frankly - it was boring.

Truly - an injustice to such amazing talent.

1st time watcher
ctufan2411 December 2021
Watched the 3rd season for the heck of it. Feels like a show that Netflix or the producers are trying to push social causes like LGBT or diversity combined with Christmas themed glass blowing. The show is filled with too many corny/cheesy puns with most coming from the annoying male host with a 2nd female host that seems unneeded. Multiple times critiquing things that are not even associated with glass blowing techniques/how the objects are created (whole point of the competition) such as using certain colors or layouts from other objects.
