New Delhi, Feb 4 (Ians) The Indian diaspora spread all over the world has mostly stayed connected to its roots. And one of the institutions that keeps this connection alive is Indian cinema. These films could be in Hindi or in any of the South Indian languages.
The Indian film market is spread far and wide, but Indian films also have to conform to the local culture and sensibilities, mainly of the religious kind. We do not make films that are against any other country or its culture, but when it comes to religious sentiments, considering the mixed population we have, Indian films feature characters from different religious backgrounds. Yet, Indian films cannot always please all people.
Almost all countries exhibiting films have their own censorship bodies. It is also not uncommon for them to occasionally ban films from theatrical release. The reason could be a vulgarity, nudity or religious sentiments being hurt.

Abhishek Sharma is back with a satire, and he loves being deliberately scatterbrained about it -- we know from his two 'Tere Bin Laden' films. Being goofy and caustic at the same time can be tricky business. While he sailed with 'Tere Bin Laden', he struggled with its follow-up, Tere Bin Laden: Dead And Alive.
Abhishek Sharma's latest is positioned as a rom-com meant to take a few jibes that are served purposely ditzy. In focus is Bombay of the nineties (which becomes Mumbai over the course of the story) as well as its locals-versus-outsiders conflict that had started gaining prominence in that era. The film also makes some noise about women and curbs on their freedom of choice, in career as well as marriage, which would often dictate many middle-class households of the era.
These are all subject that have been dealt with numerous times on the Bollywood screen.

The recently-released Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive has hit home with the audience and so has Sikandar Kher’s performance in it. The actor, who plays dual characters in the film, has been receiving a lot of praise for both his roles, as David Dosomething and more so for his performance as the potbellied Punjabi Hollywood producer David Chaddha.
Shubhra Gupta from Indian Express says, “The one actor, hard to recognize under all the make-up, who proves to be a complete funster is Sikandar Kher in a ‘double-role’: as the Yank operative assigned to the Osama job chewing on a broad accent which doesn’t drop, as well as the pot-bellied Hollywood ‘producer’ David Chaddha, he is a hoot.”

Bollywood take note, director Abhishek Sharma’s satire, Tere Bin Laden: Dead or Alive, will take a swipe at your film industry and won’t shy away from tearing it down — one joke at a time.
“Everybody here is only trained to hear good things — something negative is not tolerated. But in the kind of films I make, I love laughing at myself, and that’s how it should be,” Sharma said in a recent interview.
Enter his latest comedy, a spin-off from the 2010 sleeper hit Tere Bin Laden. Set against the backdrop of terrorist Osama Bin Laden’s presumed death, Sharma wove a comedy about the Us government’s desperation to provide proof of Laden’s mysterious capture and killing.

Satirizing terrorism is as tricky as making molar surgery mirthful. Abhishek Sharma did it once in Tere Bin Laden, then fell flat on his farce with a raunchy sexed-up version of Basu Chatterjee’s Shaukeen. So Sharma is back doing what he thinks he is best at.
Generating titters out of terrorism.
And though it has its ha-hee-hee-ho-ho moments, it is not quite the….errr… blast that it promises to be, mainly because the characters behave as though they are in a stand-up comedy act where every actor must…well, act. So everyone is acting all the time…sometimes double-acting because some of the pointedly parodic people, like Sikandar Kher who plays – don’t laugh – a CIA agent masquerading as a Bollywood film producer – lead double lives, alas, failing to generate double laughter.
Farce is clearly not young Kher’s forte, though what is his forte nobody knows.

Tere Bin Laden: Dead Or Alive actor, Pradhuman Singh, says that fellow co-actor Sikandar Kher is the dark horse of the upcoming film, courtesy of his intriguing double role in it.
“Sikandar is the dark horse of the film. His character is brilliant. He’s playing a white guy and a Punjabi guy; it’s a kind of a double role – the same person, but he changes his appearance,” Pradhuman says.
While he appears with blonde hair and a foreign accent as a white guy, Sikandar Kher, the son of seasoned Indian actress Kirron Kher, and the step-son of actor Anupam Kher, sports a hairy look and a paunch for his Indian Punjabi avatar in the film.
Pradhuman, who famously essayed ‘Noora’ in the 2010 Tere Bin Laden, says he had “unparalleled fun” while working with Sikandar and Manish Paul in the movie’s sequel. “None of them (the actors) had any insecurity in them.

After crossing $500 million worldwide this week, Deadpool heads into its third weekend with sights set on another #1 finish as it will become one of the top five, highest grossing R-rated films of all-time. The weekend's new releases vying for a spot elsewhere in the weekend top ten include Summit's Gods of Egypt, Open Road's Triple 9 and Fox's feel good feature Eddie the Eagle. On the heels of a 57.4% drop last weekend, Deadpool should dip around 52% drop or so this weekend, give or take a few percentage points, for a third weekend anywhere from $26-29 million. By the end of the weekend, Deadpool will be approaching a $280 million domestic cume, soon moving ahead of The Matrix Reloaded to become the third highest grossing R-rated release of all-time. Expected to finish second is Summit's Gods of Egypt, though this one is facing some serious scrutiny. Budgeted at a massive $140 million, midweek...

For Manish Paul, featuring in the sequel of Tere Bin Laden was a huge responsibility. The TV host and actor said he simply gave his best shot to the film. “It was definitely a burden for me. The first part was a sleeper hit. I had to keep in mind several things. But I still did not pay much attention to the burden part because I have a feeling that this film is surely going to repeat history. The script of the film is strong and we had a great time shooting it,” said Manish.

When director Abhishek Sharma began penning a spin-off to his 2010 surprise hit, Tere Bin Laden, alongside his onscreen Osama bin Laden, played by actor Pradhuman Singh, the writer-director started scouting for the perfect actor to play the character of American President, Barack Obama. He instantly knew he had found his man when he came across a video titled ‘President Obama on Death of Osama bin Laden’, which features American rapper-comedian, Iman Crosson, known for satirising the President’s speeches through rap.
“My team got in touch with Iman who’s based in Los Angeles. He flew down to Mumbai and we shot with him on a large set of Abbottabad, recreating the speech and the rap,” said the director Abhishek.
Iman has been invited to the White House on two occasions and has duly impressed the President with his impersonations. In fact, Obama calls him his ‘best mimic’. To top that,...

You probably don't remember 2010 Bollywood box office hit, Tere Bin Laden, but I do. That film starred Pakistani heartthrob Ali Zafar as a young TV news man looking to make his mark. He finds his meal ticket when he discovers a guy who looks just like the notorious Osama Bin Laden and launches a series of exclusive interviews with him, which go over like a lead balloon and hilarity follows. Mind you, this film was shot and released over a year before Bin Laden's death, making the choice to deliver a comedy based on the man that much ballsier. As ridiculous as the premise sounds, the film is actually hilarious, and Ali Zafar has gone on to bigger and brighter things, though mostly on...

Abhishek Sharma's last film Tere Bin Laden, a satirical take on the American obsession over Osama Bin Laden, the 'most wanted man' in the world, proved to be a sleeper hit in 2010. The film marked the entry of Pakistani actor Ali Zafar, in the world of Bollywood. Now, we have a sequel to the same titled Tere Bin Laden Dead or Alive starring anchor turned actor Manish Paul.
Tere Bin Laden Dead or Alive revolves around the happenings of May 2, 2011, the day when Osama Bin Laden was executed, as claimed by the American Media. According to director Abhishek Sharma, Osama's death remains a mystery which could very well make way for a gripping plot for the second installment. The actor, who played the role of Bin Laden in the prequel, Pradhuman Singh will continue his act as Osama. The sequel, just like its previous installments, will be a satire...

This one is going to be a week of comedies for Bollywood. Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend and Hunterr arrive together, and both are youth centric affairs. Let’s talk about Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend first. The film has seen some good visibility coming its way, courtesy the songs that have fetched attention during the last few weeks. Moreover, it has Divyendu Singh and Pradhuman Singh promising good humor, something that they have demonstrated well before in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Chashme Baddoor and Tere Bin Laden. From Dubai to Mumbai, it has been quite some journey for young Japinder Kaur who is making her foray into the world of Bollywood. An erstwhile assistant to Prakash Jha (with whom she worked on Aarakshan) and boasting of a blooming post production studio in Dubai (which she runs with her brother Tarnpreet Singh – who is also the producer of her debut feature film), Japinder is stepping into Bollywood with Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend. We get into a quick conversation with her.
A love story with a thrill element to it – Guess Dilliwaalli Zaalim Girlfriend is one cocktail of a film?
While it is my first film, I pretty much feel that I am an audience first. I don’t have any checklist or criteria that I am following at all. As an audience when I watch a film, I enjoy a cocktail. Same is the case with my friends and family.

YoYo Honey Singh fans can rejoice. Four months after he turned 'Alcoholic' for The Shaukeens, he would now be heard again for a Bollywood flick. "That's right, it is going to be a treat for all those Honey Singh fans who have patiently waited for him to be back on the musical scene," confirms our source, "Honey Singh had a lot of fun singing and shooting for this song. It is pretty much on the lines of his songs that have turned chartbusters over the years." This also spells good news for the performer who has been in news for wrong reasons during last few months. The films bring together the winning combination of Shaad Ali, Shankar-Eshaan-Loy and Gulzar (Bunty Aur Babli and Jhoom Barabaar Jhoom). It features the vocal talents of Sunidhi Chauhan (‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ – Tees Maar Khan), Siddhartha Mahadevan (‘Malang’ – Dhoom 3), Sukwinder Singh (‘Bismil’ – Haider), Sonu Nigam (‘Abhi Mujhme Kahin’ – Agneepath) and Arjit Singh (‘Tum Hi Ho’ – Aashiqui 2) amongst others.

11 months after his last hit Chashme Baddoor, Ali Zafar is back on the big screen with Total Siyapaa. While the David Dhawan directed comedy was as 'filmy' as it gets, Total Siyapaa is on the lines of other concept based films like Tere Bin Laden and London Paris New York that Ali has been a part of.
"Mostly, what I look for in my films is the content of the script. Also, it works when such films are made on a tight budget. Like for example Total Siyapaa was shot in 28 days flat. We could afford to do that as the script was water tight and we didn't have to invent things on the sets. I could pretty much sense that the shooting would be smooth once Neeraj Pandey shared the script with me. It sounded very direct and balanced. Now that was a feat in itself because the very...
