The Beatles’ record label could boast about their ability to sell albums from the biggest band in the world. Beginning in 1963, the band became an undeniable success in the United Kingdom, with records flying off the shelves and an increasingly rabid fan base. Capitol Records, which would eventually become the band’s American record label, initially wanted nothing to do with the group. They were certain they would sell well in the country.
The Beatles’ record label didn’t think the band would do well in America
In 1963, “From Me to You” brought The Beatles their first Number One hit in the United Kingdom. It was their third single and marked the start of their rapid rise to success.

Pop music phenoms come and go, fall in and out of favor and sometimes fade into total obscurity. Very few remain relevant a decade removed from their initial success, and you can count on maybe two hands the number of artists who can knock out a new song or reissue and top the Billboard charts 50-plus years after their debut.
And then there's The Beatles.
From the moment they scored their first number one hit in the U.K. with 1963's "From Me to You," The Beatles drew on their multitude of musical influences — blues, country, rockabilly, and the sui generis soul sounds pulsating out of Motown — to create perfectly constructed, infectiously catchy singles that earwormed their way into the fabric of your being. Within three years of breaking big in the U.S., they released the pioneering folk-rock LP "Rubber Soul," flirted with psychedelia and raga on the expansive "Revolver,...

In 1963, the songs The Beatles released laid the groundwork to establish them as the biggest band in the world. They had a handful of hits that year that completely changed their lives. While they were proud of each release, Paul McCartney said one of these in particular felt like a big step forward for the group. He shared how the introduction of a chord made him feel like they were growing as artists.
Paul McCartney said 1 early Beatles song felt like a step forward for the band
In 1963, The Beatles released their debut album Please Please Me. For years before this, though, McCartney, John Lennon, and George Harrison had performed together. Lennon and McCartney had long been writing songs and had amassed a catalog of music.

When The Beatles released “Please Please Me” in early 1963, both Paul McCartney and John Lennon received writing credit. The pair wanted to be the next Rodgers and Hammerstein, and they established the precedent of earning joint credit for their songs. According to McCartney, though, he didn’t have all that much to do with writing the song. He admitted that “Please Please Me” was more of Lennon’s song than his own.
Paul McCartney said John Lennon wrote more of ‘Please Please Me’ than he did
After achieving success with “Love Me Do,” The Beatles exploded with the release of “Please Please Me.” It was a song McCartney and Lennon worked on together, but McCartney admitted that it was more of Lennon’s song than his.

A producer who worked on one of the most famous songs of 2023 said The Beatles‘ “Here Comes the Sun” was ignored by one of the Fab Four’s most famous albums. In context, that makes a lot of sense. However, it might not be what fans want, especially considering that “Here Comes the Sun” is such an enduring tune.
The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes the Sun’ was left off a record of the Fab Four’s No. 1 hits
The Beatles released two of the most famous compilation albums of all time: 1962-1966 (commonly called The Red Album) and 1967-1970 (commonly called The Blue Album). During a 2023 interview with Variety, “Now and Then” producer Giles Martin discussed The Red Album and The Blue Album.

The Beatles have made music history again with their new single Now and Then.
The song has topped the charts in the UK, making the band the act with the longest ever gap between their first and last number ones.
Sixty years after their song From Me to You sat at number one, Now and Then has made it to the same position. Sir Paul McCartney told the BBC: “It’s blown my socks off!”
And the BBC reports that the tune is also this century’s fastest-selling single on vinyl. And, with McCartney, 82, and drummer Ringo Starr, 83, they are also the oldest band to hit the top spot.
The song emerged from a demo written by John Lennon back in 1978, two years before his murder in New York. His widow Yoko Ono later gave the tape to McCartney, but audio technology wasn’t adequate then to separate Lennon...

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke had a lot to say about John Lennon‘s voice — and so did John himself. Yorke had a nuanced view of John’s “brutal” singing. John said his vocals helped him dominate The Beatles during their early years.
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke said he was a fan of John Lennon’s ‘weirdly brutal’ singing voice
A 2023 article from Rolling Stone features a passage from Jason Thomas Gordon’s forthcoming book The Singers Talk. In it, Yorke was asked to name the singer he’d most like to talk to about their voice. “It would be John Lennon,” he said. “Lennon’s whole attitude to singing, I’m a little bit obsessed with, because, on the surface, he has this whole, raw, doesn’t give a f*** … just the way he sings is weirdly brutal.

By 1967, The Beatles had released so many No. 1 singles that it seemed impossible that one of their songs wouldn’t take the top spot. That year, they released “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” together. Both songs were so strong on their own that it felt like another slam dunk for the band. Ultimately, though, another artist got the top spot on the U.K. charts. John Lennon was not a fan of this musician.
The Beatles consistently had No. 1 singles until 1967
The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein wanted the band to release a single in early 1967. They gave him three songs: “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” and “When I’m Sixty-four.” While “When I’m Sixty-four” was a solid song, “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” were seen as unbeatable.
“I decided to give [Brian] a super-strong combination,” producer George Martin said, per the book The Beatles: The Biography by Bob Spitz, “a double-punch that could not fail,...

The Beatles’ recorded music impacted the landscape and changed things forever. Despite the screaming and short sets, their concerts were so good they made teenage fans pee their pants from excitement. Their producer didn’t wet himself, but George Martin screamed like a teenage girl at one of The Beatles’ most impactful concerts.

Beatlemania was a curious phenomenon. The name suggests it spread like an inferno, but that’s not entirely accurate.
The Beatles’ popularity in England was a steady climb. Not every Beatles song was a massive success. The band gave up on one tune when they couldn’t sing it. Still, the misses were few and far between. If George Martin had his way, he would have shelved “She Loves You” because of George Harrison’s last-second change. The Beatles overruled Martin and scored one of their biggest hits.

The Beatles had a No. 1 hit in England with “From Me to You” in April 1963, but they weren’t yet the dominant force they became after they recorded “She Loves You” in July of that year. Paul McCartney and John Lennon are among the most successful songwriting duos ever and wrote many songs that dominated the U.S. charts. When they had their first No. 1 hit in the U.S., it was a sign that Beatlemania was in full swing and signaled the beginning of the British Invasion. However, The Beatles did not perform the first song on the U.S. charts that is credited to Lennon-McCartney.

It’s not a stretch to say The Beatles redefined popular music. When they still played live, their concerts caused mayhem and hysteria. Their singles ruled the charts on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Heck, “Lovely Rita” from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band changed the English language. Ringo Starr joined a wild ride when the Beatles added him to their roster. The drummer seemed to be the key to unlocking the band’s potential as they climbed to the top of the charts in England within nine months. The Beatles were rarely upstaged after that, and Ringo proved his worth when he came up big one of the greatest Fab Four songs. Yet some older entertainers weren’t ready to cede the spotlight in the early 1960s. That included actor Marlene Dietrich. She shared a bill with and tried to grab the spotlight from The Beatles, but Ringo found the upside of sharing a bill with her.

The Beatles practically owned the charts in the 1960s. They had 20 No. 1 hit singles and several No. 1 albums. Since the Fab Four were constantly at the top, it blocked other acts from reaching the summit. The Beatles even prevented a cover of a John Lennon song from becoming a No. 1 single in 1963.

It’s hard to overstate The Beatles’ success in the 1960s. They had an incredible 64 top-100 songs during their active career. Nearly half of those — 31, to be precise — came in 1964 alone. On three occasions, their albums kept other Beatles records from hitting No. 1.
The band started cannibalizing their own success almost as soon as they hit the charts in 1963. The Beatles kept a cover of the John Lennon song “Do You Want to Know a Secret” from hitting No.

The Beatles became titans of pop music thanks to their long list of No. 1 hits. Paul McCartney and John Lennon developed into such prolific songwriters that they could afford to give away hit songs. They gave “Bad to Me” to Billy J. Kramer, and it became his first chart-topping song.

John and Paul never hesitated to give away songs to other artists, even before they fully developed their songwriting skills. They gave up on the would-be Beatles song “That Means a Lot” and gave it to P.J. Proby. His rock-steady voice helped make it a modest success. The Fab Four’s arrangement of a pre-written tune was an unreleased Beatles song that topped the chart for Gerry & the Pacemakers.

The Beatles were constantly at the top of the charts during the 1960s. They had 20 No. 1 hit singles and multiple No. 1 albums. Since The Beatles were constantly at the top, it blocked others from reaching that goal and even prevented a song written by Paul McCartney from becoming a No. 1 single.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon were a dynamic songwriting duo that led The Beatles to become global superstars. However, not every song they wrote was instant gold. A few of their songs were rejected by The Beatles, and other artists often collected and reused their recycling. For example, McCartney wrote “A World Without Love” for The Beatles, but Lennon disliked it, and they gave it to Peter and Gordon.

In addition to being expert songwriters, The Beatles also had a strong b.s. detector. They wrote nearly two dozen No. 1 hits in the United States but also walked away from music they knew wouldn’t perform well. John Lennon and Paul McCartney gave up on a song that turned into a modest success for an American singer.

It’s hardly a stretch to say The Beatles dominated the 1960s, especially from 1963 onward. Their energetic debut album, Please Please Me, bowled over young English music fans. The United States finally caught up nearly a year later with the Fab Four’s historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The fact that The Beatles had 71 songs land in the top 100 of the Billboard singles chart is as impressive as their 20 No. 1 hits.

The Beatles wrote many songs that were love letters to various things and locations in the U.K. “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane” are both dedicated to locations they visited in Liverpool. Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote one song in the early days of The Beatles as a “tribute to British rail.”

The Beatles first recorded “One After 909” in 1963 on the same day as “From Me to You.” However, The Beatles did perform it live earlier as The Quarrymen in 1960 and at the Cavern Club in 1962. The recorded version of the song wasn’t released until 1970’s Let it Be, the band’s final album. Netflix has released its Top 10 for the week of March 27, and it was little to no surprise that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston‘s comedy sequel “Murder Mystery 2” entered the English language films chart in first place. After all, the original 2019 movie was such a huge hit for Netflix.
The action-comedy sequel entered the charts with 64.4 million hours viewed, the second-biggest launch for a comedy film with 42 million views, appearing in the Top 10 in 91 countries with it being the #1 movie in more than 60 of those countries.
Right behind it was the original “Murder Mystery” with 24.7 million hours viewed globally, and the previous #1 movie “Luther: The Fallen Sun” with 12.7 million viewing hours. The lack of strong family films in theaters allowed four animated films to get into the Top 10 with Netflix’s “The Magician’s Elephant” leading the pack with 6.3 million viewing hours.

Several Beatles’ songs reached No. 1 during their career. Fans loved many of their tunes, but sometimes the band members didn’t. John Lennon hated several Fab Four songs, even some that he wrote. The Beatles’ worked hard on one unreleased song they didn’t like and it still hit No. 1 — for someone else.

The manga adaptation is back yet again, this time in the form of a live-action drama with upcoming stars and adorable chemistry. “From Me To You,” tells a story of kindness in a soft, easy-to-watch lighthearted drama with a lot of misunderstandings, love, and cuteness. Amongst all the fact paced content of today, sometimes something cozy is needed as a boost of energy.

With the oversaturated world of teen coming-of-age content on Netflix, it is easy to fall into a rabbit hole of overly sexualized teen shows that just glamorize the tricky parts of being a teen. Compared to the western teen world, the east prefers to teach life lessons through cute little romance shows inspired by popular anime or manga. Japan is not new to high school dramas, and “From Me to You” rekindles fond memories of school rather than bringing anything new to the screen. As someone who hasn’t watched the anime, I can absolutely understand why it would’ve been translated into a live-action show for high school students in Japan. The show subtly tackles issues such as school bullying, feeling like you’ve brought a knife in a gunfight, high-school exams, the fear of growing up, and many such struggles of a school student without ever coming across as a life lesson.

Many music fans consider The Beatles as one of the most influential bands ever. They greatly impacted popular music and won over fans worldwide. Still, some fellow musicians hated the Fab Four. One outspoken critic once called Paul McCartney and John Lennon idiots as songwriters. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t above recording one of their songs himself.

It seems hard to believe now, but John and Paul were still novice songwriters even as The Beatles’ popularity grew. The band’s first single, “Love Me Do,” was a top-20 hit in England in 1962. “Please Please Me” nearly reached the top in early 1963. “From Me to You” gave The Beatles their first No.

In the early 1960s, Bob Dylan and The Beatles rose to fame, becoming key figures in the music industry. The Beatles frequently spoke about Dylan’s influence and how often they listened to his music. Dylan met and liked all four members of the band, but he didn’t speak nearly as much about being a fan of them. Dylan explained there were several reasons he didn’t want to admit that he listened to The Beatles.

In 1963, Dylan released The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. This was his second studio album but the first to feature primarily original songs. Much of the album consisted of political songs, cementing his reputation as a folk singer. The album peaked at No. 22 in the United States but hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom.

Paul McCartney won over music fans around the world with his genius-level songwriting skills. Kenny Lynch was not one of them. At least not immediately. The British entertainer once called Paul and John Lennon idiots, but that didn’t prevent him from working with Macca a decade later for the Wings album Band on the Run.

It’s not a stretch to say The Beatles completely altered the pop music landscape. Their sweet pop hits won over young fans and reached the top of singles charts in England and the United States. The albums from their studio period remain all-time classics, and some of the most famous songs weren’t singles. Interestingly, the first album The Beatles played on (and the first single) wasn’t one of their records.

Paul McCartney called The Beatles‘ 1963 tour with Roy Orbison a “historic moment.” It was the “Pretty Woman” singer’s first tour of the U.K. and The Beatles’ third. The Fab Four had yet to conquer the U.S., but it was safe to say they’d already taken their country by storm, so much so that they became co-headliners with Orbison, originally the headlining act.
However, there was no competition between The Beatles and Orbison. They inspired each other.

Folks! It is finally happening. One of the best anime shows ever made, as well as the one good adaptation of one of the greatest manga of all time, is finally coming to streaming.
At a time when availability is becoming an important issue in media as big corporations are erasing entire titles from existence with the push of a button, concepts like piracy as historical preservation are being discussed in a new light, even by creators. If there is literally no legal way to watch a show, should you pirate it? Does it hurt a show when, after years of unavailability and bootlegging, it finally becomes available? "Neon Genesis Evangelion" was a hit on Netflix when it finally became available to stream and got everyone talking about it for the first time in years.
Thankfully, we don't have to debate this any longer, at least not when it comes...

That same day, Ouran High School Host Club will be available in 190 countries, and Claymore in 136 countries.
The new partnership builds on previous deals for Nippon TV reality series Old Enough!, as well as 30 of its biggest drama series and entertainment shows which air on Netflix in its Asian markets.

The sweat was visibly pouring off him, but his only concession was taking off his jacket and rolling up his sleeves after “I’ve Got A Feeling.” The communal vibe of a McCartney show is perfect for this festival: 60,000 people swaying in a field of grass,...

Paul McCartney was playing air guitar when he showed up at New York’s Grand Central Terminal Friday night around 7:40 p.m. His livestreamed YouTube concert was starting in just a few minutes, but first he wanted to give us in the audience a few instructions. Here's the full trailer for the live-action adaptation of the 1960s anime and manga classic, Tiger Mask. The character was created by Ikki Kajiwara, and the story centers on a wrestling hero who fights evil to protect the children of an orphanage.
The film stars Eiji Wentz (Brave Story) as the hero, Natsuna Watanabe (Gantz, Kimi ni Todoke) as the heroine, Ruriko and Show Aikawa (Zebraman) as Mister X. Here's a little more information on the film and its story, thanks to Anime News Network:
"Tiger Mask" is the alter ego of the character Naoto Date, a pro wrestler who goes against an evil wrestling organization and fights for children in an orphanage. In the new setup for the film, Date dons a special suit and "transforms" into Tiger Mask with enhanced mobility and muscle strength. His mask has also been redesigned with a nod to American comic action heroes such as Spider-Man and Batman.
