You’re probably wondering what some of the new content is about for The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Sony and Naughty Dog did mention last month the new Lost Levels that were cut from the original game, along with a new roguelike survival mode called “No Return”. Sony has now shared more details on the latter in a new trailer.
According to the official description provided by Sony, “No Return” has you attempting to survive as long as you can in each run, choosing your path through a series of randomized encounters. Each run features different foes and memorable locations from throughout Part II, all of which culminate in tense boss battles.
The mode will also feature gameplay modifiers that can offer new and challenges as you fight to succeed in a host of different encounter types.

Although he might not have been as appreciated when he debuted in Attack of the Clones in 2002 (the very shoddy CG did not help), wise Besalisk diner owner Dexter Jettster has enjoyed a bit of a Star Wars renaissance in recent years on social media. The subject of countless memes and gifs on Twitter and Reddit, Dexter is one of several Prequel Trilogy characters who have enjoyed a bit of a reevaluation from fans who grew up with those movies, even if in this case it’s largely just for laughs.
But Dexter’s latest appearance in Star Wars canon is no laughing matter. In fact, his return in the short story collection From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi finds Dexter at a low point in his long life. If you’ve ever wondered just what happened to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s jovial pal after Episode II,...

This article contains spoilers for "Ahsoka" episode 8 — "The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord."
And with that, "Ahsoka" season 1 has come to an end. Though it now very much feels like the end of a first season that will give way to a second season, as there is much left to resolve. In some ways, things are just getting started, as Grand Admiral Thrawn finally made his grand return to the galaxy after being trapped in exile in a different galaxy that was far, far away, for more than a decade. The heir to the Empire is clearly going to try and re-establish Imperial rule under his thumb. But how exactly is he going to do that? This episode provided some answers, and Thrawn's plans are, in a word, dark.

Srivastava spoke about the impetus for their reunion last year. “I had a dream where we were onstage and it was really positive,” he said.

Sources tell Bloody Disgusting that Tony Todd has signed on to reprise his role as William Bludworth in the upcoming sixth installment in the Final Destination franchise.
The horror icon played the enigmatic mortician in Final Destination, Final Destination 2, and Final Destination 5.
The plot reportedly centers on first responders. We’re told that the film digs into Bludworth’s backstory, including a flashback to his childhood that reveals more about his connection to death.
This may be what franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick was referring to in his recent comments that Final Destination 6 “unearths a whole deep layer to the story.”
Production is set to take place in Vancouver after the SAG-AFTRA strike is resolved. Zach Lipovsky & Adam B. Stein (Freaks) will direct from a script by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor (Bed Rest). Filmmaker Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) produces.

If there was any lingering doubt, The Last of Us proved that even the most hard-core genre concept (in this case, a zombie tale adapted from a video game) can become a best-of-class prestige TV drama in the hands of hugely talented creatives — in this case, showrunners Craig Mazin (who made HBO’s gripping Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (who developed PlayStation’s The Last of Us game and its sequel). Their tale of a hardened pandemic survivor (Pedro Pascal) transporting a teenager (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic America full of danger and destruction earned a whopping 24 Emmy nominations (second only to Succession) and was a major streaming hit (averaging more than 30 million viewers per episode).

The finer details of George Lucas’ original Star Wars trilogy were anything but set in stone when the Maker first outlined his grand space fantasy saga back in the ’70s. Take the shifting relationship between Luke and Leia in across all three installments, for example, or the differences between the Emperor in the movies and his backstory in the novelization of A New Hope. In the rough draft of The Empire Strikes Back by Leigh Brackett, Lando was a clone, a veteran of the mythical Clone Wars, instead of Han’s smooth-talking counterpart. Then there all the ways Return of the Jedi changed during the writing process, and in the pivotal story meetings between Lucas and co-writer Lawrence Kasdan that would decide the fate of the galaxy.

Brutal and violent, Mike Hammer is a no-holds-barred private investigator created by Mickey Spillane and featured in novels, movies, TV shows, comics, and more. Mike Hammer is set to return to the big screen as Skydance has acquired the rights to the franchise and is planning to develop a movie based on the iconic character.
No writers, directors, or actors attached to the new Mike Hammer movie at this time, which is hardly a surprise given the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes. The rights to the character have been in dispute for quite some time. Mickey Spillane died in 2006, just one month after the death of his manager. The manager’s estate tried to claim ownership of Mike Hammer, but following years in court, those rights reverted to Spillane’s estate.
Starting with the novel I, the Jury, Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer novels have sold over 250 million copies worldwide.

The filmmakers behind the year's most terrifying horror film, "Talk to Me," have a fascinating backstory that rivals any of the supernatural chills and thrills in their feature film debut. The Australian sibling duo of Danny and Michael Philippou first got their start as YouTubers, as we've previously written about here. But don't let their humble beginnings fool you. The pair of movie aficionados certainly didn't shy away from wearing their cinematic influences on their sleeves when it came time to write and film "Talk to Me."
The filmmakers revealed as much during a recent interview with /Film's Jacob Hall. In our review of the film, Chris Evangelista made note of the pervasive Sam Raimi influence, particularly through the usage of gore and makeup that feels of a piece with "The Evil Dead." But as it turns out, their specific inspirations for their newest film go even deeper than that.

Longtime Star Wars fans know the story by now: Harrison Ford believed Han Solo had reached the end of the line by 1983. Frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back and shipped off to Jabba the Hutt, the lovable scoundrel’s fate was certainly in question leading into Return of the Jedi. And Ford was convinced that the right thing to do was to kill off the smuggler for good.
“I thought Han Solo should die. I thought he ought to sacrifice himself for [Luke and Leia],” Ford explained in the 2004 making-of documentary Empire of Dreams. “He’s got no mama. He’s got no papa. He’s got no future. He has no story responsibilities at this point. So let’s allow him to commit self-sacrifice.”
The actor echoed as much during an appearance on Conan (via Cinemablend) in 2015, suggesting that a self-sacrifice would show how much Han had changed from...

The opening act of Richard Marquand's 1983 sci-fantasy epic "Return of the Jedi," a film set in the universe of the animated series "Droids," takes place on the desert planet of Tatooine. While there, the stalwart heroes Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), sneak into the criminal palace of the evil crime lord Jabba the Hutt to rescue their imprisoned friend, Han Solo (Harrison Ford). Their plan isn't entirely clear, sadly, and they are all eventually caught. This leads to a scene out in the desert where Jabba forces them to walk the plank into the waiting open mouth of an enormous desert creature called a Sarlacc. Thanks to their fighting acumen, our heroes kill off the bad guys, escape in a jet, and blow up Jabba's desert barge for good measure.

Beware! If you mess with the wrong person in an attempt to get them in a “gotcha!” moment, they might enlist Johnny Knoxville, Eric Andre and Gabourey Sidibe to get you right back! That is the trio’s mission in their new ABC show, “The Prank Panel.” And no one is safe – not even the cast themselves.
The concept of the show is simple: people come before the panel and pitch a prank they’d like them to pull on someone close to them who first pulled a prank on them. In other words, big time retribution. The panel then chooses one and does all the very elaborate dirty work.
After Jimmy Kimmel, the show’s producer, pulled the group together, Andre set his sight on pranking Sidibe. But he was messing with the wrong person.
“You tried to get me with the bugs that, but the bugs had no effect on you.

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
The Mandoverse is expanding further in 2023. While last year’s The Book of Boba Fett fleshed out the post-Return of the Jedi story of the infamous bounty hunter and his quest to rule Mos Espa, two more shows will take this corner of the Star Wars universe to new territory. There’s Jon Watts’ Skeleton Crew, which will see Jude Law leading a group of teens on an epic adventure inspired by ’80s Amblin films. Then there’s Ahsoka, which picks up the story of not just the beloved Jedi warrior but all her friends from the Rebels animated series. We know Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Ezra Bridger are all involved in the quest to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, but there’s one name that until this moment had been left out: the grumpy Lasat rebel fighter Zeb Orrelios. What’s he been up to?...

Matthew Antonucci, who played an instrumental role in restarting film and TV production after the early days of Hollywood’s Covid lockdown, has been promoted from VP to SVP Production Affairs & Safety at Contract Services.
Contract Services is the entertainment industry trust fund that administers the safety, training and roster provisions of the collective bargaining agreements between the AMPTP and IATSE’s West Coast studio locals, Teamsters Local 399 and the Basic Crafts.
Antonucci, who also serves as management’s co-chair of the Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee, oversaw its special Task Force in the drafting the White Paper that got the industry back to work in early June of 2020. Presented to government and public health agencies across the country, the White Paper enabled the industry to secure approval to return to work and paved the way for the companies and the industries’ guilds and unions to negotiate their Return-to-Work Agreement.

The following article contains spoilers for the 1983 film "Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi."
Usually, I wouldn't put a spoiler warning about a film from 1983, but I have recently discovered people who have never seen the original three "Star Wars" films. Worrying about spoilers is a huge part of the social media era, whether it's people getting mad about plot points being posted the second a midnight film premiere lets out or someone mentioning the ending of a film from decades ago. However, it's not a new problem; it's just more widespread.
"Star Wars" is one of those franchises that is very secretive by design. There are huge plot twists, redefined relationships, big reveals, and character shifts that the filmmakers want you to experience while watching the film. I wholeheartedly agree as someone who had a certain brother/sister relationship from this franchise spoiled on the playground.

When we last spoke with Davy Chou, we caught him at the debut of his sophomore film, “Return to Seoul” in Cannes. This time, we speak with him again at a different point of the movie: during its awards tour. Among the many accolades — including recognition at Cannes Un Certain Regard, Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards, and more — “Return to Seoul” also represented Cambodia’s shortlisted bid in the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film.
Though star Park Ji-min, who plays the indomitable Freddie Benoit in the film, could not make it last-minute to our conversation in San Francisco, Chou maintained his composure throughout the interview. Hilary Duff‘s new on-screen love interest is a blast from her past. In season 2 of the Hulu sitcom, “How I Met Your Father,” Duff’s character, Sophie, strikes up a romance with an older man, played by actor John Corbett.
Coincidentally, Corbett played Duff’s high school teacher in the 2004 film “Raise Your Voice.” “He sure did, and now we are smooching it up,” Duff quipped of Corbett’s past role during a Monday night appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
“This would have been very bad if it had happened then,” host Meyers noted, pointing to a photo from “Himyf” of Duff and Corbett kissing and then one of them from the teen flick.
“Very, very bad. It did not happen then,” Duff clarified. “She’s 35 now, we’re cool.”
Meyers asked if Duff was a fan of Corbett’s hit show “Sex and the City.”

In today’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo sets his sights on Searchlight Pictures’ latest release, “See How They Run,” with the star of the film, and Academy Award Winner, Sam Rockwell. In the film, Rockwell plays Inspector Stoppard, who, along with a rookie partner (Saoirse Ronan), must investigate a murder that just so happens to take place within a production of an Agatha Christie play. The often funny, meta-whodunnit film is directed by Tom George and also stars Ruth Wilson, Adrien Brody, David Oyelowo, Harris Dickinson, and more.

Hollywood’s Covid-19 vaccination mandates were the subject of a three-hour special meeting today of the SAG-AFTRA national board, which ended without any action to modify the existing policy that allows employers, on a production-by-production basis, to require vaccinations as a condition of employment, subject to restrictions contained in the industry’s Return-to-Work agreement. That agreement is set to expire on Sept. 30.
Industry-wide talks to renew the agreement are scheduled to begin on Monday. Taking part will be leaders of SAG-AFTRA, the DGA, IATSE, the Teamsters and the Basic Crafts unions, as well as representatives from the companies and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.
SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, who last month had called for the special meeting, was accompanied to Saturday’s board meeting by her own epidemiologist, Dr. Harvey Risch. He is the Professor Emeritus of Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at...

Art-house title “Return to Dust” was a surprise weekend winner, topping the mainland China box office in its ninth weekend of release.
The astonishing feat occurred on an otherwise depressed weekend in which China’s cinema box office dipped to a three-month low. This reflected the summer season winding to an end and anti-covid measures once again forcing major Chinese cities into retreat.
Data from consultancy Artisan Gateway showed “Return” grossing 5.3 million (RMB36.2 million) between Friday and Sunday. Those three days accounted for nearly half of the 12.7 million (RMB87.4 million) cumulative total it has earned since release on July 8, 2022.
Directed by Li Ruijun, the film tells the tale of two middle-aged adults who agree to an arranged marriage in a rural town where state-ordered demolition is under way. It premiered in competition at the Berlin festival in February this year and subsequently played at the Udine and Hong Kong festivals.

It is not a surprise to learn that Quentin Tarantino is a lifelong admirer of Richard Lester’s The Three Musketeers (1973) and The Four Musketeers (1974). Filmed as one movie but released in two volumes during the early ‘70s—a concept Tarantino popularized further some decades later with Kill Bill—the Musketeer movie(s) stood among the most popular action and comedy films of their day, and featured the type of swaggering bravado performances from the likes of Oliver Reed and Faye Dunaway that have long appealed to Tarantino’s sensibilities.
Nonetheless, it was still a surprise that when discussing those movies on a recent podcast, Tarantino revealed his love for Lester’s Musketeer duology is also responsible for one of his few fears in cinema: watching the belated sequel to that sprawling effort, 1989’s The Return of the Musketeers. While appearing on the Unspooled podcast alongside Roger Avary to promote their own podcast,...

Hollywood is living dangerously. There's are very few potential sleepers and almost no blockbuster hopefuls coming for a few months (unless something really surprises) despite a fairly strong box office summer. (Why on earth are potential sleeper rom-coms Bros and Ticket to Paradise waiting the end of September/end of October when the landscape is so barren starting in Mid-August? ) As a result the movies that are already out are holding pretty well. Especially Top Gun: Maverick which continues to defy all reasonable expectations, climbing back up to #2 in its *gulp* 12th week in theaters. But talk about killing the Grand Return To Moviegoing by starving audiences! We'd like to think audiences would just start being more adventurous and seeing some limited releases but realistically that's not what they do (sigh)...

Freeform has canceled Josh Thomas’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” after two seasons.
Thomas announced the news on Twitter on Tuesday. “We’ve decided Season 2 of ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Okay’ will be its last,” he wrote. “I want to send an extra super special thanks to our cast, writers and crew who are talented, kind and passionate. We made the second season at the peak of the pandemic and everyone did such a beautiful job of keeping each other safe and happy and sometimes dancing. If any of these people ask you for a job, I highly recommend you say yes.”
The comedy aired its Season 2 finale in June, wrapping up a two-season run that began in January 2020. The series centered on Thomas’s character Nicholas, an Australian entomologist who becomes guardian to his two American half-sisters after their father’s death.

As Argentina state film finance has dwindled, Argentine writers and directors are looking ever more to drama series creation as an alternative. MipCancun caught Argentine talent pitching 10 projects that have been awarded development coin by Argentina’s Incaa film-tv agency. That came two weeks before Ventana Sur, which will debate the role of the series show runner.
A drill down on project details:
“Dead Trees”
Directed by Ana Piterbag, “Dead Trees” has the look and feel of a Patagonia Noir, set in a remote Argentine village. A fantasy-laced thriller spiced, produced by Cinema 7 Films and Argentina’s Los Andes Cine. Cinema 7 Films last project, “A Life of Speed: The Juan Manuel Fangio Story,” premiered on Netflix in March.
“You Have Reached Your Destination,”
A technological romantic comedy exploring couples’ dilemmas with gadgets, which figure as a catalyst in the film’s narrative. “You Have Reached Your Destination” focuses on everyday-life with a near-future twist.

The many breadcrumbs David Lynch has been dropping about an upcoming major project has now led to some tangible information about what we can expect from the auteur. With it now being three years since his masterful return to Twin Peaks, he’s finally gearing up to shoot a new project.
Way back in February, a Reddit user dropped the rumor that Lynch was developing a project for Netflix with the working title of Wisteria. Said to be either 25 hour-long episodes or 13 mini-movies, it reportedly carried a $85 million budget with 200-day production taking place in Los Angeles. While the pandemic clearly halted any such plans, we’ve been waiting for a more reliable source before reporting, and such news has now arrived.
According to Production Weekly (via Welcome to Twin Peaks), Lynch will begin shooting Wisteria this May at Calvert Studios, returning after shooting some of Twin Peaks: The Return there.

This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains Major spoilers for the Season 1 finale.
In terms of references, if “No Small Parts” was the only episode of Star Trek you’d ever seen, you would have been given a crash course on the entire franchise. “The chiseling begins,” Dame Harriet Walter’s Lady Caroline Collingwood laments as she sits down for a negotiation with her son Roman (Kieran Culkin) and daughter Shiv (Sarah Snook) in “Return,” the Season 2 episode of HBO’s “Succession” that Walter submitted for Emmy Awards consideration. A first-time Emmy nominee this year, Walter boasts over 100 film and TV credits but is best known for her prolific work on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. Her 2020 Emmy nom is for Best Drama Guest Actress.

In her previous appearances on “Succession,” Walter’s Caroline––the ex-wife of the show’s center-of-gravity Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and mother to three of his four children––has been a wise-cracking, whimsical presence who couches her resentments in thinly-veiled barbs and maternal niceties.
