In Europe, it was embraced as an instant classic. In the country that gave the movie its title, it remains one of the highest-grossing homegrown films of all time. And in America, it was considered such a misfire that many thought it would end Baz Luhrmann’s career.
The movie was Australia, the writer-director’s unabashedly gushing love letter to the Hollywood epics that he grew up watching as a kid. It was also a star vehicle for Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, a WWII drama, an outback Western, a star-crossed romance,...

Baz Luhrmann’s Faraway Downs, a reimagined extended version of the filmmaker’s 2008 film Australia, has just gotten its first trailer. The six part re-imagining of his epic is heading to Hulu in the United States, Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in all other territories on November 26, 2023.
“I was inspired to re-approach my film Australia to create Faraway Downs because of the way episodic storytelling has been reinvigorated by the streaming world,” said Baz Luhrmann. “With over 2 million feet of film from the original piece, my team and I were able to revisit anew the central themes of the work. I am honored to world premiere Faraway Downs in Australia, the place that has inspired me and my work my entire life, and with a partner like SXSW who deeply recognizes the intersection of film, television and music with storytelling.”

Baz Luhrmann’s Faraway Downs, a six part series that extends his 2008 epic Australia, will close the inaugural SXSW Sydney Screen Festival on Oct. 21 with a world premiere.
The Elvis filmmaker will be on hand to present the limited series told in six chapters and starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Bryan Brown, Brandon Walters and Ben Mendelsohn. The SXSW festival bow will be followed by Faraway Downs launching simultaneously on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ in all other territories on Nov. 26, 2023.
Faraway Downs, with 20th Television as the studio, will expand on Australia, which starred Kidman and Jackman, using original footage and a new ending and updated soundtrack. When Australia first premiered in 2008, Luhrmann said he had filmed three endings. The theatrical cut of Australia has a running time of two hours, 45 minutes. There’s no word on how long the full six-episode series will run.

The fantasy series hit the streamer’s English-language TV chart at No. 2 for the week of March 13-19, tallying 50.4M hours viewed in the days since its March 16 debut. It struggles to hold a flame to the 64.1M hours viewed that You Season 4 drew during that week.

Tuesday’s iTunes chart saw a surge for two A24 Oscar-winning films. However, neither of the winning Netflix titles saw its winners reenter the top 10 chart. This week also saw three different films lead the top VOD charts, which is unusual, but even weirder is none placed on all three.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” ($19.99) and “The Whale” ($4.99) jumped to #1 and 2 at iTunes, a platform that’s typically quick to reflect increased interest. The films also climbed to second and third at Google Play, more likely reflecting weekend pre-Oscars interest.
Google Play has “Dragon Ball Hero: Super Hero” on top, while Vudu showed “80 for Brady” as #1. Among the chart leaders, “Everything” and “Dragon Ball” made one other list, while “Brady” is only on Vudu’s. These differences can be accounted for by various factors: Vudu elevates PVOD releases with its revenue-based rankings, Google Play lags a few days behind,...

Faraway is a movie directed by Vanessa Jopp starring Naomi Krauss. With Goran Bogdan, Bahar Balci and Adnan Maral.
Far Far Away is a simple, simply scripted film that goes for the charming, tender, inner self and what is pure from the very beginning. Is it a completely made-for-tv film in its purest form? It has it all, yes, you choose whether you want to enjoy it or see it through sarcastic intellectual glasses.
About the Film
A film with its own name: Naomi Krauss, who has the whole movie to herself and shines in one of those roles that are a joy to play: a woman who rediscovers herself after escaping from an exhausting routine and environment.
You know what to expect: the initiation journey of a middle-aged woman who rediscovers herself and finds, of course, love in a new environment. A new idea? We’ve seen it a...

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.
