The 1980s were full of robots, lasers, odd fashion choices, and teen films, including the now cult film Chopping Mall (watch it Here). In this 1986 sci-fi film, a group of teenage friends and mall workers end up stuck in the Mall after closing hours when a trio of security robots are deployed for the first time.
In the 80s, anything futuristic or with robots seemed to get greenlit with budgets of varying levels and quality of varying degrees. Some of these films took themselves very seriously, too seriously even. However, Chopping Mall was one of those films with the perfect mixture of low budget, the right talent in front of and behind the cameras, and the right level of seriousness to its content and how it was approached. The film doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it doesn’t go full-on goofy, either. There is a “just right” aspect...

For fans of Alyssa Wray, Cassandra Coleman and Deshawn Goncalves, Sunday’s episode of “American Idol” was a gut-punch. If so, which “American Idol” eliminated singer was most robbed of a shot of making it into next week’s Coldplay-inspired episode? Vote in our poll below.

Netflix dropped its latest original movie this past Friday – Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The film was originally set for a theatrical run back in May, before it was switched to a streaming release due to the pandemic. And as is pretty common for a comedy flick, the Will Ferrell movie is splitting critics and viewers alike, but those who are taking to it are really enjoying it. Of course, it helps that it comes with a few genuine bangers on the soundtrack, too.
As the movie is based around a fictionalized version of the real-life European musical competition, Eurovision finds time to include many songs on its soundtrack, including some covers of familiar tunes but also a lot of new numbers specially created for it, with Ferrell and co-star Rachel McAdams lending their voices. Superstar Demi Lovato also provides a song, titled “In The Mirror.”

Brad Pitt, Kristen Stewart and Channing Tatum might have new movies opening this weekend but if you like your entertainment a little edgier, Paragon Pictures is releasing “Mall,” based on the debut novel of celebrated playwright Eric Bogosian. “Mall” marks the directorial debut of Linkin Park's Joseph Hahn, who worked off a script that Bogosian's “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” co-star Vincent D'Onofrio co-wrote with Sam Bisbee and Joe Vinciguerra. The well-made indie movie follows five characters whose paths cross over the course of one fateful evening in a shopping mall that has come under siege from an armed lunatic.

With so many hard "R" ratings in today's MPAA ratings bulletin it's mildly comical to me that one of them is not Dracula Untold, the Luke Evans starrer that will take a new look at the blood sucking king of all vampires and deliver it in PG-13 fashion. Ugh. As for those hard "R" movies, let's begin with Antoine Fuqua's The Equalizer of which he spoke with Collider regarding making a hard "R" rated film saying: The violence you witness is Denzel doing it and we're taking some visual effects and doing some things and you see something happen it's happening in front of you as opposed to cutting away and doing a bunch of tricks. It's in front of you. So it's hard not to make it a hard 'R' if you see a guy get punched and teeth wind up in someone's knuckles, you know what I...

Joseph Hahn is mostly known for his creative work as the beat master for the band Linkin Park. He's also directed several of the band's music videos. The guy is crazy talented and I know he's been trying to direct a feature film for years. I'm happy to report that it's finally happened for him and he just made a distribution deal for it.
The movie is called Mall, and it's based on Eric Bogosian's 2001 novel of the same name. The story revolves around "five disaffected suburbanites whose lives come together at a shopping mall following a seemingly random shooting." This looks like a solid movie. We actually have a trailer for it for you to check out below, and an international poster that I found above. Apparently, the film was already released in France.

Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn has apparently taken to directing movies and for his debut he's put together a cast that includes James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom), Vincent D'Onofrio, Gina Gershon, Peter Stormare and Cameron Monaghan (The Giver). D'Onofrio even co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Bisbee and Joe Vinciguerra based on Eric Bogosian's novel of the same name, Mall. Here's the plot: Malcom's done with his life. Only the noise of Crystal Meth gives him a reason to keep going - everything else it has long regardless. Equipped with a bag full of weapons and self-made bombs, he makes his way to the nearby mall to really stir things up. Sounds like Crash, but with the more timely and relevant public shooting angle, and we have a trailer. It looks like a feature length music video, with some weird threads that will be tied together somehow, but maybe the story will be worth it? Watch now! Here's the first trailer for Joseph Hahn's Mall from YouTube: Mall (or A Day to Kill) is directed by Joseph Hahn,...

It looks like Linkin Park‘s new album won’t be their only output this year as their DJ Joseph Hahn, after working on such franchises as Transformers, has helmed his first film. While Mall was shot two summers ago, the band, who contribute to the score, likely seemed it was a good fit to release around the same time […]...

Kids. Such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape or Reservoir Dogs before it, and such as Winter’s Bone, Blue Valentine and Fruitvale Station after it, Larry Clark & Harmony Korine’s seminal film is forever connected in “spirit” to the lieu where it received its secret midnight premiere screening in 1995. The Sundance Film Festival might be known as the birthplace of U.S indie filmmaking innovation, avant-gardism, a larger definition of the low budgeted film response to Hollywood in not only narrative but in the non-fiction form, but it is a festival made strong by its renewal and familiarity. That close acquaintanceness exists in Kids‘ starlets Rosario Dawson and Chloë Sevigny filmography/career path trajectory and connection to Park City (both have several indie films slated for ’14 – of which I’ve included in our predictions list) and it is that “familiarity” that is visibly noticeable in how I map out my annual predictions list.

He will be writing and directing the sequel, with Yesbox Productions and Epic Pictures Group teaming together.

German Distro Splendid Also Picks Up Machete Kills And Sin City 2, Schwarzenegger’s Ten
In some late-coming news from the Cannes Film Festival, German film distributor Splendid has snapped up the distribution rights for the impending actioner Ten starring former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who’s apparently decided to give Hollywood a try after a lofty political career. This same distributor has also bought the distro rights to director Robert Rodriguez’s pair of upcoming sequels, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills.
This news goes from “Meh,” to “Huh, okay, yeah,” but then it veers sharply into “For the love of God, kill me” territory with this tidbit from The Hollywood Reporter: There is a film also forthcoming entitled Mall about a group of folks trapped in a shopping mall during a shooting incident. This film stars two of my absolute favorites, Peter Stormare and Vincent D’Onofrio.

More casting news has hit the wire for Linkin Park member Joe Hahn's directorial debut Mall, and we've got the skinny for you right here, free of texting teenagers and lunatics jumping out of kiosks to spray things on you. Dig it!
Variety reports that Gina Gershon (Showgirls) and Peter Stormare (pictured right; Constantine, Fargo) have stepped in to replace Chelsea Handler and Eric Bogosian (the latter wrote the 2001 novel on which the indie film is based) due to scheduling conflicts. They join the previously announced Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket; The Cell), Cameron Monaghan ("Shameless"), James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom), India Menuez, Mimi Rogers (Ginger Snaps, "The X-Files"), and Gbenga Akinnagbe ("The Wire").
Bogosian's debut novel follows five suburban strangers whose paths cross over the course of one hellish night at a shopping mall, where a drug-addled madman (Frecheville) goes on a shooting spree.

In a Hollywood explosion seldom seen, Joe Eszterhas, the screenwriter for The Maccabees, the Jewish historical film Mel Gibson is making, published a nine-page letter accusing Gibson of being anti-Semitic and just doing the film to fix his reputation. Mel Gibson published a response saying Eszterhas was unprofessional and delivering a late, substandard script (that Warner Bros rejected).

There hasn't been a good psycho on a killing spree movie in quite some time, but that could be changing relatively soon thanks to the new flick on its way called Mall.
According to Bloody Disgusting, actor Vincent D'Onofrio (pictured right; Full Metal Jacket; The Cell) is both executive producing and starring in Joe Hahn's (best known as Linkin Park’s DJ) genre pic that heads to the Mall.
Penned by Joe Vinciguerra and Sam Bisbee, the indie project that’s described as a dark drama follows the empty and sordid lives of various mall-goers which are brought into stark relief when a disgruntled former tuxedo shop employee goes on a massive killing spree. The flick will feature the music of Linkin Park.
Doing some digging, we discovered that the pic will also star Cameron Monaghan ("Shamless"), James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom), India Menuez, and Michael Kenneth Williams (The Road,...

Last week the news emerged that Vincent D'Onofrio would be heading to jail as the deputy warden of Sylvester Stallone's impregnable prison The Tomb. Before that however, D'Onofrio is taking a detour round a Mall. The 'dark drama' is being directed by Joe Hahn, who's better known at the moment as Linkin Park's DJ.The premise is that a group of teenage mallrats have the peace of their emo-moping shattered when a disgruntled former employee of a tuxedo shop goes on a murderous rampage. He was, clearly, one step closer to the edge and about to break.D'Onofrio's role hasn't been revealed so far. It's doubtful that he's one of the teens, obviously, but we've yet to learn if he's the gunman, or a mall official, or a cop, or a concerned parent, or another shopper caught up in the carnage, or a vigilante who crawls around the...

Chelsea Handler's unlikely media empire has expanded from standup stages to best seller lists to cable and primetime TV, with each medium selling the same product: hard truths and straight talk. And unlike so many politicians who offer those same promises, Handler means it, and delivers.
With books detailing her one night stands and wild past lives -- one, in fact, will now be a show on NBC -- Handler has never held back. And in a recent New York Times article, she opened up about her past, before show business and her fledgling climb up its edge, as well as hitting out at people who don't quite understand or appreciate her style.
First, her teenage years, and the discussion of what is, for many, an event best left in the past.

Chelsea Handler, it seems, is slowly taking over all of Hollywood.
Already the host of "Chelsea Lately" and "After Lately" on E!, and the just-announced star of horror-comedy "Mall," Handler is heading to network TV; her sitcom pilot for NBC has just been optioned to series for next year.
Based on her memoir, "Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea," Handler will executive produce and co-star as Sloane Hanson, fictionalized version of her older sister. Laura Prepon, best known as Donna from "That 70's Show," will play the role of Chelsea.
