Well, I'm definitely not playing this again.
Heartburnt_Kid22 October 2022
What depressed the players in the earlier game is much amplified here. The sadness and desperation are well presented through the intense and excellent performance of voice actors. Main characters are a main key to this game's crucial core and uniqueness.

The environment and atmosphere are a visible upgrade thanks to the more interactive world and beautiful graphics. However, there is little change in the gameplay and the puzzles could have been more intriguing. There are too many tools which simplify the challenges thanks to the diversity of various items. The ways of solving them should be more inventive rather than being solvable in 5 different ways. This is of course just a personal preference.

As for the story it is rich in creating creepy energy in almost every chapter. The game seems to have no mercy in punishing every character's decision, it is also why playing this game was so depressing. There are still heartfelt moments but all of it is usually crushed with continuous tormenting emotional torture both for the player and the protagonist.

All in all, it was one hell of a game that constantly kept me in an emotional rollercoaster.

A truly touching story of love and denial
ilovetwdg25 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Even apart from its predecessor, this game truly shines and becomes something more than a game. The characters, setting, and plot are wonderful, and while some may find its story disappointing as a follow up to the second, I find that it lived up to its hype. It's an expansion in every way, gameplay, music, graphics, scale. You have more time to really take in the 14th century French country side and idealic island of La Cuna.

Do I even have to say anything about the performances? They were so intense, so on point and so real that sometimes you have to take a break because it becomes so tiring in the shoes of Amicia. All creative forces involved should be proud that they created such extraordinary characters!

The dynamics between each character are complex: Hugo & Amicia, Hugo & Society, Amicia vs. The world. Her obsession drives home the tragic nature of Hugo's condition and how it was inevitable that he would eventually succumb to the dark forces that brought him to the island, his (and Basilius') hunger for revenge. I think everyone who played the first one should give it a shot, its about twice the length of the second one if you explore around so prepare to make some time.

A perfect follow up
Collvpsy20 October 2022
The sequel to 2019's A Plague Tale: Innocence. Manages to expand on almost everything the first game offered in terms of scale and quality. The story managed to keep me intrigued until the very end with the many twists and turns it offered and topped it with a very good conclusion. Gameplay has more depth to it now and is refreshed every couple of chapters via introducing the player to new mechanics/tools that add an additional depth of layer into the experience and offers more ways to deal with enemies as this game is mainly about stealth. The graphics and visuals are superb and beautiful despite being locked on 30fps on consoles, which is a major flaw and unfortunate. Voice acting and performance is incredibly well done and you can feel the emotions of characters as they kill an enemy or go through an unsettling experience. I also liked how areas are more open and larger in this game than its predecessor, no side quests on anything but a bit more exploration with the characters commenting and interacting with each-other which i didn't mind. The game's length is roughly double the first title, for me personally at least, as it took me 20 hours to beat the game. Overall, I highly recommend A Plague Tale: Requiem as one of the best highly directed narratives in recent memory.

We need more games like this
P9724 October 2022
Easily one of the best games of the year for me as i adored the first one, thought the story was beautifully told and the relationship between the brother and sister was very heartfelt.

This game's story while it's similar to the first one, it's a lot more vicious, brutal at the same time heartwarming but sad, the title from the first game "innocence" pretty much dies if there was any left. The voice actress for amicia kills it in her role pun intended, this is how you make a strong female protagonist, she goes above and beyond for her little brother and you can clearly see how emotionally draining it is on her but she always kept going which was really captivating.

The one minor issue i have with game is that it needs some patching for the frame rate as it can get pretty intense whenever rats are around and on the consoles the game could definitely benefit a 60fps performance mode.

As a whole to me this is how games should be, a strong narrative, great music, beautiful voice acting, intense stealth gameplay and memorable characters.

10/10 an emotional rollercoaster and one of the best games of 2022.

Everyone should watch or play the game at least once in their lives.
helmortart31 October 2022
Don't call it a video game, because it isn't. A Plague Tale Requiem seems to have been written by William Shakespeare himself. It's something so magnificent, powerful, sad, and epic that has transformed video games into something more than just entertainment, but has also made all of them true trye and pure poetry. Impressive! Everyone should watch or play the game at least once in their lives because this is an amazing example of what videogames should be, of what kind of interactions we should have with our characters and how the videogame industry is making videogames much more interesting than the last movies appeared in Hollywood. Everyone should watch or play the game at least once in their lives because it is a fantastic example of what videogames should be, of the kinds of interactions we should have with our characters, and of how the videogame industry is making videogames far more interesting than the last Hollywood films.

Stunning Graphics, Gripping Story, 11/10 A+
joseflerer11 November 2022
I can't recommend this game enough. The graphics were perfect; I have an RTX 3080, and I was able to run the game on the max settings in 4k. Sometimes the frame rate would drop to 50fps, but I was getting a consistent 57+ fps. The story really sold me on the game. I don't usually like stealth/puzzle games, but with such a good story, this might be my favorite game of all time. The few complaints I've seen about the game mostly pertain to lower end graphics cards not being able to run the game at 60fps. The menu has a lot of options for graphics quality, so you can prioritize fps vs resolution if need be. 11/10!

Heart-wrenching and highly-charged emotional adventure on a very high octane.
Reiko_9521 October 2022
I bought Innocence last year and completed it, but i felt wanting for more. And this year lo and behold the sequel released. Much like in the tomb raider trilogy reboot, you can feel Amicia's innocence (because she's not a battle-hardened warrior), in the weapons she has at her disposal - a sling- much like Lara in the 1st part of the tomb raider trilogy, but in the sequel, again, much like Lara, Amicia toughenes up, in the sense that she's more aware of what she's up against, she has a more powerful arsenal at her disposal, compared to the first game. The game portrays to the user the best way it can thanks to its developers and the sheer amount of research that went into making it, the 14th century grim atmosphere brought on by the 100-year war (not literally 100 years but that is what it is, shall i say, known for).

Mind you Amicia's 2nd adventure is not about the 100-year war - though it is set in the midst of it- it's a fictionalized one, where rats take center stage, again, only this time their numbers are much greater. If the 1st game had a mere 5000 of them, the sequel has 60x that much. I've been a gamer since 1998, but this is the only game that i have ever played where at some point i found myself shedding a tear for the main character and her companions, this is how intense the atmosphere in the game becomes as the story progresses, couple that with the musical score, especially at the main menu.

In some ways Amicia is a lot like Lara, and there are some similarities between the games, except for the rats. I feel there's no need to elaborate on them, you have to play the games in order to understand. I admit i got this sequel by means of utorrent, but it impressed me so much, much more than the first one, that i feel the developers deserve my hard-earned cash and i am going to buy it. If the sales are great, then a 3rd sequel may be in the works at some point because the game definitely leaves room for a third installment, which i am looking forward to.

This game along with the score is so emotionally charged, i hope it wins game of the year award. It's the best game i have played since valhalla back in 2020. Innocence is a good game too only requiem improves on its predecessor and it shows in the graphics, Amicia's weapons and her determination (which in Requiem is a lot stronger than in Innocence) to kill whatever stands in her way. The idea behind this franchise has lots of potential and promises a lot in terms of storyline.

One more thing, is it me or some pieces of the score slightly resemble the score from Joan of Arc video game made back in 2004 i think ?

All i can say is if you like this game, enjoy Amicia's 2nd highly-charged emotional adventure through the dark, grim, medieval 14th century France, once again.

A totally different experience from the first game
horrorlover-4192926 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am almost speechless after finishing this game went to a lot of different places with new things find and new threats and you gotta love/hate those rats and seeing a big hordes of rats just destroy a whole town you got to wonder how much force that many rats could actually do in real life. Amicia's and Hugo's growth from the first game to the second game is huge difference they never quits even though things look impossible. This game is definitely game the year for me and so many others. I don't think I'll ever find a game this unique and different from any other game out there. I can't getting over how crazy that ending was going through Hugo's test or what ever you would call it was crazy. Trapped in a test to let go of you ways. This game is definitely really amazing and heartwrenching journey.

Art Plague Tale - Beautiful
jean-pageau4 November 2022
This is the game that made me love again video games after 10 years without playing. The story is incredible and the writers understand exactly what is family and the sacrifices that comes with it. I don't know if the tv show will be as good as the game because it would only replicate this tale with probably different actors and couldn't match the game visually. Charlotte McBurney and Logan Hannan did a fantastic job playing Amicia and Hugo and because of them, you really feel their characters live and be real humans with their strengths and weaknesses. They are not perfect. And because of all that, This a masterpiece. Sad but so beautiful and strong. This is art. Ty Asobo Studio.

Good , but slow at times
cpr3584-14 January 2023
Intriguing story right from the start which pulls you into the world . Amazing graphics.! Perhaps the best I've seen yet on my series x. I was a bit surprised that so much stealth is required throughout the game as I was expecting a bit more action and adventure . As you play thru it you with undoubtedly get to lulls where it feels like you are simply going from one building to the next while avoiding rats and it takes another 10 minutes to get to another event in the game . I should also point out that this is one of those "solve one problem then another " games where you are presented issues and the characters say " oh yea ! We can do this to fix it "! Then you go do that , then fix something else , cut scene , repeat . Overall an interesting game but not one id replay again .

So much better
shungshang23 October 2022
This one is so much better than the previous game, the story is more interesting and their are a lot of new mechanics in the game like the crossbow and the new kind of alchemical slings. The game is so beautiful , I didn't except it from a plague game. There are many many rats more than in the previous. This game is more emotional, and their are so much deads. When I played it feel like this is not a game this is real bc of the dialogues and the atmosphere. The game is a little bit challenging but if you're played stealth games before its not a problem. I glad I have got game pass and I glad I could play this game.

Disappointment of the year
rafiz14 December 2022
I don't understand the excitement of this game at all. The first part was actually something else, and the gameplay was just fun with its simplicity. However, the creators probably took the praise too much and thanks to this they created a boring installment that limits us to going through the game in their layout. In my case, I had to break chapters into days to get to the end. Certainly, the graphic design and the continuity of the story, which is a continuation of the previous part, deserve praise. And here's a solid part of Requiem's cons:
  • Weak steering, reversing directions when escaping,
  • Lack of refinement, some tasks are simply ill-considered,
  • There is no freedom of action in the game,
  • Looping enemies while searching the area,
  • And probably the most important. We are forced to fight constantly and the game is not adapted to it. The controls during the clashes and the lack of freedom make the fights irritating.

Massive letdown compared to the first game
Mabie27 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The graphics are great, but unfortunately that's all there is to it. The story is just stupid. What sane person would travel to an island to find a cure for a child's dream? Especially when your own mother already says that it won't help. Of course it doesn't and what's Amicia's next suggestion? Move to the mountains as if everything is ok. Moreover, Amicia is almost crazy, quite different from the first part. Also, unnecessary enemies are shown, some of which simply don't get an explanation, like the beekeepers at the very beginning. And it doesn't do the game any good that the areas are so big. Since you get nothing but ingredients for the various sling ammunition, it never pays to get to the boxes that are harder to reach, and that worked well with the smaller maps in the first Part. I really dont get how so many can give this such a good rating.

A breathtaking and emotional adventure.
hedonik25 July 2023
A Plague Tale: Requiem is more than a game. It's an art. Almost everything in the game is perfect. The story in particular is very emotional and the ending is the most impressive and saddest ending in game history. It has an ending that leaves the player depressed and crying like a baby. The bond between Amica and Hugo is reflected very strongly. It was pretty emotional in the first game, but Requiem set the bar even higher. The main character Amicia, was very well written and a very enjoyable character to play. The gameplay is more advanced than the first game, A Plague Tale: Innocence, and contains a lot of innovations. New weapons, such as knive and crossbow. There are more action scenes and the alchemy menu is more understandable and useful. The music of the game is as good as the first game, or even better. Olivier Deriviere has done a great job again. Also, Amicia and Hugo's voiceovers were amazing. In particular, Amicia's voice-over officially lived the story, and when she cried, I cried, too, when she suffered, I suffered, she conveyed that emotion to the player very well. It was very unfair that Charlotte Mcburney didn't win the best performance award at the 2022 game awards. If you like story games, do yourself a favor and play this great game.

Emotionally intense
zoebloom30 January 2024
Never have I ever played such an emotionally intense game before.

I didn't know this was the second instalment but the game instantly hooked me with its plot.

The music is stunning and creates intense emotion and immersion.

The characters are wonderfully portrayed but the actors. Amecia being a stand out in particular. Her voice is just so so good.

The graphics are very well illustrated. The gore ect.

I've never played a game where they are able to put emotional weight on the death that surrounds us. For once I actually feel bad for all the dead bodies we see.

I really enjoyed the stealth and survival aspects.

I wish more games were like this!!

vdkolkrichard-2399921 August 2023
Must say I mostly enjoyed the experience, a few minor glitches here and there, but it didn't bother me.

A girl a sister, who is protecting her brother no matter what, she won't abandon her brother although he is sick, and because of that he is loosing control over his powers.

They are going on a journey to heal his illness Graphics are pretty good I must say, next gen worthy.

Sounds, voice acting are great also, Sometimes you have parts over and over again, untill you het that aha moment haha.

I had to use you tube a few times, because I didn't get further in the game .

But you can do it without, for sure.

After the subtitles it goes on, take note of that.

Didn't expected that, it's not a lot but still... Overall it's pretty good, a bit to dark for me though It's a puzzle action game with great graphics and sound.

Great game
85122220 January 2024
Greetings from Lithuania.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem" (2022) is a great video game and a stunning sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence". I loved the second one and found it superior to the first part, which was a very good one as well. This is a bigger and more ambitious game. The story was great. Storytelling was amazing. Can't remember last time i was so involved into story. Playing "Requiem" was like watching a great adventure movie. Graphics are amazing end exploration of this linear adventure was superb. Characters as well were excellent as well as dialogs and acting.

Overall, if you liked the first one then you are definitely should play "Requiem" - its an amazing video game and sequel.

Good
simbiat11 March 2024
This is definitely an experience.

I probably have the same complaints about this one, as about the original game. It sometimes introduces mechanics that seem like one-offs, and potentially could be a cinematic instead, and some dialogues (mostly secondary ones) feel a bit rushed or shallow. But, boy, does it delivery on the narrative overall... It's the little things here and there. Some small comments, small interactions, not necessarily from Alecia or Hugo, too. They make things feel... More real. There is proper character progression for most characters here. It's not always perfect, but it is there and it makes sense. Anger, desperation, abandon, relief and even fleeting happiness. They just work. We probably should have spent a bit more time with some characters (beside Sophia) for the connections to feel more solid, but objectively they were secondary to Alecia's and Hugo's relationship.

Gameplay wise this also seems like an overall improvement on what was provided in previous game. I would say there is no drastic changes, and additions are rather minor overall, but they all fit quite nicely and give you enough flexibility and challenge. There was also this "open-world-like" section, and it worked quite well, aside from the fact that you had to walk a lot. They also could have merged chapters 14 to 17 into 1, because individually they were much shorter than the rest, and it felt off to me.

Not sure if it's really worth it to replay it even with NG+ mode, unless you just want to try a higher difficulty, but its 16-20 hours are definitely worth the (full) price.

Impressive considering budget
michalklebs24 October 2022
This game looks and feels like Naughty Dog or Santa Monica despite being produced by a smaller studio. Story are characters are great, environment and medieval setting spot on. What a soundtrack! I'm not fan of a gameplay: a bit clunky and repetitive stealth with some interesting tools and upgrades that could be expanded in the next iteration but yeah, I understand budget constrains and Covid impact so all in all it is an amazing achievement! One of the best recreations of medieval world since The Witcher but more open world, range weapons (lack of melee is prefect and reinforces realism) and better puzzles would be very much welcomed.

Truly one of the best games of recent years
alexfox-184013 August 2023
Requiem' unique and impressive story is aided by the constant interesting puzzle solving and stealth in the exhilarating journey. The pacing and writing rivals many modern games and the gameplay can be very diverse and exciting. The game really plays with your emotions which makes the heartfelt story so much more memorable. Each unique area and chapter offers something new and the combat and stealth changes depending on who your companion is in that time of the story. The gameplay and stealth can be tedious and repetitive but more often then not A Plague Tale: Requiem finds a way in changing the way the game is played to make it more exciting for each unique scenario. The story is truly unmatched by most games if the genre and it truly outperforms it's incredible predecessor.

Repetitive, Boring, Gameplay is Very poo, Not Fun
nicnp30 January 2023
The first Plague Tale is Fun. Enjoyable story. Stealth based with fun characters.

The positive for Requiem is the Graphics..but after 5 minutes these become a background to what is a seriously poor game. No more Stealth, soldiers cannot be seen by you but they spot you every time. Gameplay sucks..always running so can't loot boxes. This repeats over and over and over. Super tedious Puzzles are samey. Boring. Slow paced. Characters and storyline is super slow paced and again if you hear one of the lines you have heard it all.

Such an over rated pile of old crud.

1st game would definitely recommend. This old pile is a pile.

Fantastic & magical, a game that will play with your heart strings & challenge you with well-thought puzzles & secrets.
michipard22 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This game is easily one of the best I have played. I hold it very dear to me as the story really shook me to the core and was a direct step-up from its predecessor "Innocence".

What felt like a fun experience to go through with a friend at first, it surprised me very much with how much more world building it had compared to the first game from the franchise. They elaborated on prior-existing points of interests in the story, such as Hugo's backstory and how his illness came to be - how long it has been in the world, how it functions & the past of the children before him. The Prima Macula is, in my opinion, a very interesting take on such an illness or condition. The way it impacts both Hugo and Amicia, the impact it had on their minds and everyone around them.

The characters, too, are well-written and thought out. They have captivating personalities that really make you wonder about why exactly they are the way they are. This is very prevalent with Emilie, a villain of one of the arcs. She has a very weird obsession with the disease, something most would be disgusted by, as it resulted in the death of thousands of people.

As for friends and, I'd say, found family of the protagonists, Sophia is easily one of my favorites, a new character that helped us so much, a new 'big sister' type of figure for both de Runes, something they so desperately needed after fending off for themselves for so long.

Over all, I'd say this game is definitely worth playing. Especially if you catch it on sale, it is definitely a good deal. One issue I have with it (unsure if fixed) is the optimization. The game has some problems with it at certain points, FPS drops being present which takes away from the immersion. On the opposite side, though, the graphics are very good - the landscapes and sightseeing points are gorgeous, especially the island later on in the game.

A Plague Tale Requiem - A Worthy Sequel!
mo_reviews_mo_money26 January 2024
Sequel to the underground hit A Plague Tale Innocence, Requiem picks up from where the last game left off, with the headstrong and protective sister Amicia, the sweet lovable Hugo, their loving mother and the wise alchemist apprentice Lucas on their way to seek guidance from an alchemist belonging to the Order.

The Order was briefly mentioned in the final act of the predecessor as being an ancient society that has been tracking the origins of the plague through the history. In this game however, the Order is fleshed out into a society that is not so much interested in curing Hugo off the Macula (a cancer like affliction that gives Hugo the power to control rats and is at the same time taking over his body) but to try and understand what it is, in the process hurting Hugo which only feeds his anger and brings about ratalanches (yup that's what I call the avalanches of rats he brings down on people) in multiple cities in the game. Unlike Innocence, which is a focused story that weaves around the narrow diseased alleys in towns of France and tells a personal story of a brother and his sister building a relationship through adversity, Requiem is more about the origins and effects of the Macula that afflicts Hugo and how it affects the world around them. Having said that, Requiem is still a deeply emotional story that is brought to life by stellar voice acting by Charlotte McBurney voicing Amicia and the innocent and sincere Logan Hannan who voices Hugo. The ending is sure to bring a catch in your throat, if not a tear or two (depending on your emotional level).

Gameplay wise, Asobo Studios have definitely upped the ante from Innocence by creating a more sandbox like stealth gameplay, giving the player freedom to decide how they want Amicia to negotiate around a swarm of guards - be it meeting them head on by peppering them with stones, a one shot sniper kill using the new crossbow, using surrounding jars of resin and tar to set the guards on fire, using Hugo's upgraded rat control abilities to direct a horde of rats onto unsuspecting guards or simply ducking behind barriers and distracting guards to get past them. Depending on the strategy of the player, Amicia gets new skill points from Prudence, Aggressive, and Opportunism. At times, Requiem had flashes of Uncharted to it with a few "run away from the horde of rats" events. At times, the game also reminded me of the Arkham games as there are a few mini-boss encounters where each boss had its own way of being beaten.

Visuals and graphics have also stepped up from Innocence (if that was even possible) with trees, foliage and grasses looking as natural as they ever have in a game. The game showcases these graphics through the vast expanses of beautiful French mountains, some of the best water effects and swathes of vegetated landscapes with sunrays shining through each blade of grass. Even the large caverns infested with millions of rats have a certain horrific beauty to them that cannot be quite put into words. In short, where Innocence focuses on claustrophobia by making players crawl and duck through tight alleyways and caves, Requiem puts the player in large open areas giving a sense of both wonder and powerlessness our main characters feel throughout the game.

Negatives are far and few however I will try to go through them here to give an honest and unbiased review of the game (you know since I do love this series very much). As mentioned above, the story of Requiem is a lot more ambitious and consequently less focused compared to Innocence as evident by its 22-hour length (compared to Innocence 10-hour length). This makes the game drag on a bit during the third act as the gameplay becomes repetitive putting you up against tens of guards and forcing you to kill them using your sling and a bunch other ways. The spectacular visuals also come at cost to performance. I played the game on my PC with a 4070ti and I was occasionally getting some stutters and drops in frame rates from 140 down to 70 fps at 1440p with DLSS quality enabled. I expect the performance to be worse on previous generations of GPUs. I have also heard of performance issues on the consoles. I don't believe these are game breaking issues however something you should keep in your mind when you are playing the game.

In conclusion, I would whole heartedly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys single player campaigns and liked Innocence (albeit this game is quite different in many ways to its predecessor). I hope Asobo Studios makes more single player games as they have shown great talent at being able to compete with AAA game making companies and stretch the boundaries of modern gaming.

A Heartbreaking and Memorable Allegorical Journey
PerfectShots23 June 2024
As the highly anticipated sequel to 2019's "A Plague Tale: Innocence", "Requiem" had a lot to live up to in continuing the harrowing story of Amicia and Hugo de Rune. After completing my playthrough, I can confidently say that Asobo Studio has delivered another tremendously impactful narrative experience that manages to be both bigger and more emotionally profound than its predecessor.

The story's allegorical nature is rich with metaphors, providing a new perspective on human nature in our modern times through the lens of 14th century Amicia and Hugo, struggling to maintain their humanity in an environment full of hate and violence.

The story picks up directly after the first game and does an excellent job of drawing players back into Amicia and Hugo's desperate struggle. New locales like the island of La Cuna are beautifully realized and add scope, but most importantly the bond between the siblings continues deepening in very raw and real ways. Voice actors Charlotte McBurney and Logan Hannan and the character's motion capture actresses Robyn Wolf and Chloe Louis are phenomenal in conveying the immense emotional toll the journey takes, making their characters raw and real. Especially Amicia will crawl under your skin during the progression of the story, quite likely leaving an impact reaching far beyond the time spent playing the game.

Gameplay has been improved with the addition of tools like a crossbow, while stealth and survival remain compelling mechanics. Larger levels give a sense of exploration.

However, it's the level of emotional investment "Requiem" facilitated that really stands out. Very few games can elicit such intensely cathartic and even tragic feelings from players. Credit goes to amazing direction, artistry and authentic character work. The ending left me an absolute wreck.

Several playthroughs on YouTube for example show, that I am not alone with that experience. I highly recommend seeking these out after playing the game, especially the ones of voice actors Anna Demetriou and Charlotte McBurney, providing interesting background information about the making of the game.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem" delivers a truly heart-wrenching story told with immense grace and power. It will linger with players for long after as one of gaming's most impactful and viscerally emotional experiences. For those seeking that, this is a must-play sequel.

The story in this game is amazing and unique. Today so many films and games have the same predictable stuff and they are worried about straying to far from the safer approach incase people aren't interested and or it causes controversy. The thing is when you go out of the normal lane and done correctly you get a great result and that's what you get here.

All the team at Asobo Studio all done such a great job with writing, art, actors and so on and its all came together to create a true masterpeace.

The game does eat up hardware on PC and I found DLSS was essential for the smoothest experience. Never came across any problems during gameplay which is always nice.

I really cannot wait to see what else they come up with.
