Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, the characters and drama reflect all that came before. People lose track that TWD universe isn't just the zombie apocalypse thing but a character study of human nature when things seem bleek and social institutions are a disarray, if not forgotten in the zombie apocalypse thing.

It's basically zombie opera.

'Dead City' takes two of the most fleshed out and unique characters in universe and puts them together to raise the dramatic stakes and leave the puff behind the old TWD. We see Negan post-redemption arc still haunted by Maggie (Glen) and Maggie acting on (motherly) instinct and survival, a reflection of what Negan started with. Juxtaposition. Dichotomy. So on.

This season finale definitely raises the stakes for a potential second season, I look forward to it. One of the major problems with the later seasons of TWD and FTWD was the amount of main characters we had to follow. If you have shows that span decades and character studies for all of them, you can't explore anything without new situations or players. How could we keep up? Especially if they start a storyline with one character but don't go back to that particular viewpoint and story until a month later. You want to invest in that? I prefer the course correction in this show.

Warning: Spoilers
What an episode. I had no idea that there was going to be a season 2 of this until the 2/3rd mark of the episode came across and it got me beyond excited about what's to come.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the MVP of this episode and series (and the whole of series 10&11 in TWD). I absolutely loved the opening scene with Ginny, and the revelation that her dad was a Marshall and got killed

I loved the fight scene between Maggie and Negan and it was perfect in the way it turned out.

And overall, I just still love the dynamics between Maggie and Negan, and now with Maggie having second thoughts on leaving Negan with the Croat, it's gonna make for a hell of a 2nd season.

Bring it on!!!

Lauren Cohan steals the show in the season finale, "Doma Smo" offers great acting and writing, a spectacular finale
Holt34424 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Doma Smo" was written by Eli Jorné and was directed by Gandja Monteiro. For this episode, both the writing and direction is superb, Eli wrote a great season finale. I'm so happy the writing and dialogue haven't changed since the first episode, consistent writing and great writing at that. The whole production is impressive and I'm glad AMC brought them the budget needed, everything looks great, even the VFX. Sound design and the musical score was great, which brought suspense and tension to every scene. This episode was beautifully shot, great cinematography! The editing deserves some praise too, especially the pacing which is perfect.

Tensions between Maggie and Negan come to a head; Ginny's search continues; questions arise around Armstrong's path forward.

We are now on the season finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City, the episode starts right where we last were with all four of our heroes together again and the scene Jeffrey Dean Morgan has with Mahina Napoleon was truly amazing, a mesmerizing performance by JDM. After a lot of build up of lies, deception and tension. The confrontation between Maggie and Negan has finally arrived and it was a great scene, placing drama above action just how it's supposed to be, great acting and well written. There's a scene with Maggie and Herschel, a scene full of emotion and great acting from Lauren Cohan but also from Logan Kim. I loved that scene, the dialogue or lack of it, it felt real like so much of the dialogue and conversations in this show. When Maggie and Negan are on the screen, the writing is spectacular.

Honestly, Perlie Armstrong have become one of the more interesting characters in the universe and its mostly about how Gaius Charles is portraying him, this new community "New Babylon" is entirely new for us and seeing the settlement through his perspective but with fresh eyes due to his character development made it so much better. I expected the finale to be more action oriented but the confrontation was almost the only action sequence, what we got was some of the best drama in a The Walking Dead show.

The Walking Dead: Dead City had a phenomenal first season, reminiscent of the golden era of The Walking Dead. It's focused, full of drama and originality. "Doma Smo" is a great finale and I don't want to spoil the ending for you but I think the second season will be even better. There were lots of character development for Armstrong which at first felt kind of strange because of how cartoonish he felt in the first episode, that quickly changed and became an important part throughout the season and possibly even more important in the final season. The rivalry between Maggie and Negan is done well here, more so during the conversations Maggie has with Herschel who makes it clear to her how black and white she sees it, how her focus has never really been on him but on Negan, a brilliant scene. I can't wait to see what Eli Jorné, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan brings to the table for the second and final season. It's looking bright! Great finale!

Finally a Twd spin off done right

This entire episode was everything I could have hoped for, the feeling behind learning the truth about Ginny's father was such a great opener, I love that this episode wasted no time a couple previous episodes felt a little slow due to multiple long walking and talking scenes about stuff that really didn't add much to the story, this episode was really great tho and the fight between Maggie and Negan was awesome the entire fight had my heart racing, also my favorite thing about this episode is Negan is now basically rick in season 7 lol, and the music was perfect I definitely can't wait for a season 2 I'd give the whole series a 8.4.

Eli Jorne
wrka-195-29992820 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the final episode and continues to have the same problems, no time for explanations like Negan is stabbed in the chest but nothing happens to him, he doesn't bleed, he doesn't feel pain, so why was he stabbed in the first place?, so I think it must be to make Maggie look great and badass. Ginny is a very poorly executed character, with potential, her story doesn't have any impact other than in the last few minutes, where Negan confesses that he killed her father and only for her to leave again, what's the point?, no make sense at all.

Eli Jorne.

He is the showrunner of this tvshow and the problem with this franchise is its writers.

Dead City became a very attractive tvshow since the announcement obviously because of its characters, Negan and Maggie, their interaction worked in the main series but not this spin off and this is the reason;

To recap a bit, the scene where Negan apologizes to Maggie in the main series and then at the end they have a conversation, you can see the pain Negan, he feels regret for he did it, all these feelings and emotions are tied to what he took from Maggie and she understands that Negan is trying. That ending was so important in many ways, Negan knows what he did was wrong and on the other side of the coin Maggie doesn't want to hate Negan anymore for this, but she is willing to try to forgive him, so they both know it won't be easy, but they are aware that they can put their relationship one step further, but all evolution returned to the beginning in this spin off, a serious mistake. Eli Jorne forgot to understand thar Maggie and Negan has at the end of The Walking Dead was start of their relationship going to into a different direction, and this show has failed to capitalize on that in these two characters. To start this final episode, the interactions, revenge, Maggie's anger still feel artificial, the lies, the betrayed, after all these years Maggie hates Negan? Did it take another 6 episodes to realize that Maggie is still emotonional stuck? The attitude Maggie's doesn't feel right, it doesn't make sense after the beautiful ending Angela Kang gave them in the main series, in this show THAT connection was lost.

This plot would have sounded more convincing and realistic, for example: "Negan heard that Hershel was kiddnaped by the Croat, so Negan comes to Hilltop with the plan to help get Hershel back, Maggie a bit doubtful and thanks him but doesn't want to, but Negan insists that she doesn't have to do it alone and that he's there to help her."

This last one makes more sense because it continues in the line of what Negan has done before, Maggie trying to forgive Negan and trust and Negan trying to do things in the best possible way, I would have loved to see this in their relationship, a more normal and realistic way, I think the writers dropped the ball and missed a great opportunity with these two characters, the writers missed to opportunity to explore more of these characters' abilities rather than their weaknesses and traumas AGAIN, more as allies than enemies.

But instead in this spin off we also have Eli Jorne saying that he would deepen the relationship of both characters, but he doesn't do the interaction justice because so many things happen that in each episode, there are 2-3 minutes of dialogue between Maggie and Negan, this isn't going deep at all, so overall it all feels "still" between them, just exhausting.

At this point it feels more refreshing to have Negan and Maggie start a romantic relationship, but it's kind of hard to build, so it would be a tough job for Eli Jorne to pull off and convince the vieviews with this plot, too much for him, so I forget about that possibility.

Season 2: Negan vs Maggie. (The War)

In this episode, it is pretty much clear the direction that they will be taken between these two characters, at some point Eli Jorne will continue milking the moral conflicts that will be presented to the already aged and tired Negan, fighting not to return to the old Negan ways, will he fall and lose forever his redemption arc?. Maggie will continue dragging her trauma with her problematic son, trying to hide or run away, in the middle there will be a war, some battles with increasingly dark scenes, without tension (the zombies are no longer scary), haven't we seen these before? The recipe is old and well-known, but cooked in NYC, I have a feeling and I hope I'm wrong, but if this show doesn't change its direction or its showrunner it will be another failure like Fear the Walking Dead, only now it's on the edge, looking into the abyss, there is still time to be saved it.

Negan has always been the good guy!
ldboss25 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Since Season 6 Negan has actually been a better person than Rick & his people. His honesty, humanity, morality was always genuine. We able to see that clearly as time went by. In this Episode its clear as a day again that who really cares for saving people!

Loved the twist & turn of the story. Loved how Croat & his community wanted Negan for what he did back then. Seeing Croat not trying to kill Negan instead realizing his mistake & acknowledging Negan was a great surprise and boy oh boy, its perfect! It should be like this cuz what Negan accomplished at the Sanctuary, people still remembers & wanting his leadership! People always remembers a great Leader!

This episode finally shows whos the real hero and who the villain is (Maggie)

I love the set up for season 2. I want to see Negan goes back to his old form and rule the world & this time not to give Maggie any benefit of doubt after what she did.

An underwhelming finale, but a perfect set-up for season 2
justdan202321 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A good episode, and an amazing set-up for the next season (I'm sure there will be a season 2 judging from the episode's ending). The new antagonist, Doma in this episode has been introduced last episode with an air of ambiguity, which is good. In this episode however, it is revealed that this lady is far crazier than I have thought, and it makes me want to know more of her, which is great.

But since the episode is filled with extremely simple buildups to the next season, it makes the finale overall underwhelming. The action tones down slightly so that the dialogues could shine, but the problem is that some of the dialogues ain't even that interesting. It fails to catch my attention, thus making a few parts of this episode boring.

The directing doesn't help this episode either. There are no creativity in the way they are shot. Mostly, the cameras just stay in one spot and to another.

The only action scene we got in this episode was Maggie vs Negan. While the fight itself is great, there is no build-up for it, no hints or signs of when it was going to happen, nothing. One moment, they were talking; and the other, they were fighting. It just feels rushed and jarring.

And also, I want to talk about wasted potentials. They could have shot the scene with Doma and Hershel as mentioned in the episode, or at least created some interactions between the Croat and Hershel. I mean, the scenes doesn't necessarily have to move the plot forward, though they could have been the perfect ones for character building.

For example, Hershel in this episode is being an edgy, annoying teenager, which I understand but still. And then it was revealed that he had his toe cut off, probably explaining his attitude in this episode. Yeah, it is shocking and makes us feel sympathy for Hershel, but only a little. Because of lack of character building and lack of buildup scenes, we didn't feel much sympathy for Hershel than we should have.

So I hope they will expand on Hershel's character, hell everyone's character, next season. This show had been arguably good so far and I would love for it to be as amazing as the prime Walking Dead era.

Warning: Spoilers
Now that this is over with my overall opinion after watching all six episodes: great acting from Maggie and Negan as usual.

Great cinematography.

Great conversations between Negan and the croat along with Negan and Maggie but at the same time their conversations are always more of the same🤷‍♂️. But honestly this is as much as I can think of for pros because as I stated before what really happened in all six episodes? And as I suspected that monstrous Walker from last episode is never talked about again just like the variant walkers.. that Maggie and negan chase/fight was pretty cool but overall I would have preferred a more singular type narrative for the season instead of a full-on set up for another season because you can only do so much with the same characters so many times over, the croat should have remained his own villain instead of giving us another Alpha and or Pamela.. and my most hated character ginny you can take that character out the story and it virtually changes almost nothing lol But with all that said moving forward I hope the next time Rick sees negan that he's truly shell-shocked that Negan is once again at the head of an army🤣

We Are Home

Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Negan, he sees Ginny. Negan gives Ginny a hug. Negan tells Ginny that he killed her dad. Maggie fights with Negan. Maggie stabs Negan with a knife. The Croat took Maggie and Negan to his headquarters. Maggie gets reunited with Hershel. Negan has been ubducted by The Croat. Negan visits The Dama, she is a contact of The Croat. Solid Final Episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1, this was not a good final. Still on a okay level but the storyline on the end is so annoying and strange. I give it a 7, looking forward to the next Season of this series! Negan is a legend!

I'd call the last moments "what a plot twist"

Warning: Spoilers
I mean this episode deserves to be at least 9.0 a very prefect ending to the very first season and a great promo for the second season, I'm definitely sure the last few moments had y'all at the edge and I'm sure every single person wanted to have the second season right away looking forward to Daryl Dixon and we're the ones who love ,gonna be lovin'em. Much much better plot, cinematography and decent antagonists I'd say ! A better 6 episode series than 16 episode series like FTWD I mean with all due respect to mr L James the other actors are really bad casted, has been better than season 9,10.

This is what we wanted!
floydeezy25 July 2023
The writing hit its stride now that we've been given a new palette and a convincing plot. These characters all have their best moments in this episode. Their arcs are written very delicately. The show honestly has a lot more depth than I expected and this episode in particular is where it's shown most convincingly. Really great scenes from Maggie, Hershel, and Negan made this the best the walking dead content we've had in a while. I'm very impressed by Lauren Cohan, she's really slipped seamlessly into being the lead, Maggie is the role she was born to play. The supporting characters take this show over the top in quality, great casting, great writing, great episode.

Awful Episode
claudio_carvalho10 February 2024
Ginny shoots her flare gun and Negan, Armstrong and Maggie find her. Negan asks her to leave the island with Armstrong and when she refuses, he tells her that he had killed her father. Now Maggie and Negan will search Hershel in Manhattan. However, Maggie betrays Negan and exchanges him per her son. Armstrong is questioned by her chief about the methane in Manhattan. Negan is introduced to The Dame that makes an offer to him.

"Doma Smo" is an awful episode of "The Walking Dead: Dead City", fortunately the last one. First, why the title in French? I hate plots with betrayal in general, but Maggie is a nasty and hypocrite character, and her action is not a surprise. Armstrong is a mediocre character that the viewers do not know why he exists. His participation is so far null in the series. In general, "The Walking Dead: Dead City" is a complete waste of time. Hope this series is interrupted without sponsors to proceed. My vote is six.

Episode 6

Warning: Spoilers
So, are Maggie and Negan going to fight moving forward or will they reunite and be friends again? It could go either way and I guess that that is the right path forward for this show, but overall this finale felt kind of flat.

This was only a six epsiode first season and yet they still seemed to run out of ideas and even find stories to fill that order with.

I am looking forward to where they go from here, but this was relatively drama free. The big meeting between Negan and The Croat did not end in violence, but them calmly trying to negotiate a new deal? I just don't think that's how this show should go.

Not a Masterpiece but Still a Good Way to End the Season
panagiotis199324 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 6 (Season Finale): Episode 5 was mediocre and I gave it a rating of 6/10. It's the final episode for this season, I really hope it doesn't suck like episode 5. It's so cute how Negan is a father figure for Ginny. Oh boy Negan is about to hurt Ginny's feelings with the reveal of the truth about her father. I don't understand why Maggie attacked Negan. Is Maggie working for the Croat? So the Croat has Negan and Maggie has Hershel, that's the deal. The Marshal lies, telling his people that he killed Negan, interesting. Hershel is pretty moody, I thought he would be happy to meet his mother but no. So the Croat's people want Negan to be their leader? What? How can they trust him? Ok overall this episode is so much better than the previous one, my rating is 7.7/10.

This season finale ends with a Hershel's rescue with a completely anticlimactic and lazy plot that only wants to sell the next season instead of telling a good story
fernandoschiavi16 May 2024
The Walking Dead finale delivered a worthy and well-crafted "solution" to the Negan and Maggie conflict, which had been building since Rick spared Negan at the end of the eighth season. Because of this, many fans were skeptical about the resources that would be used to bring these two together again. Six episodes put the two on a new mission, but was this enough to innovate the dynamic between them? Fortunately, yes. The last episode of the first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City resolved issues that had been raised in previous episodes and opened up new paths for a possible second season.

Right at the beginning of the episode, we have Ginny and Negan's encounter, where he questions her about what she was doing there, since she had already been left at New Hilltop. At the same time, he questions Maggie if she knew the girl was in Manhattan, and she lies, saying she didn't. It's interesting how the series tries to constantly switch the characters' positions, putting Maggie to do some things that the old Negan did, being hypocritical to a certain extent.

Speaking of Negan, he immediately shows his outrage when Ginny tries to retort, and he takes the opportunity to tell the truth that he was responsible for her father's death. All the protective feeling the girl had for Negan seems to have ended, and she agrees to return to New Hilltop under Armstrong's protection. This scene was certainly a big surprise; I don't think anyone was expecting that. Continuing with the mission, Negan and Maggie confront The Croat to try to rescue Hershel. Along the way, the two dialogue until the truth comes to light. The way Negan discovers Maggie's lie through her glances, silence, and movements is brilliant, and since The Walking Dead, it has been established how well these characters know each other. From this, the perfect scenario is created for the great conflict between them.

The fight between the two is very well choreographed and visceral. The direction used the camera angles very well to show Negan trying to escape and Maggie going after him, while also having to deal with the walkers. The way the setting was used here as an important element in the fight is very creative, with both of them cornered while a small horde is right below them. The only flaw here is that when Maggie stabs Negan in the shoulder, he easily removes it and there's not even any blood, it continues as if nothing happened. I don't know if it was an editing mistake, but I felt uncomfortable watching it. However, this small caveat doesn't spoil the grandeur of the scene, which represents not only a physical fight but also a psychological one.

After the fight ends, Maggie finally fulfills her agreement by handing Negan over to The Croat while he returns Hershel. The reunion scene between the two is somewhat lukewarm not because of the performances, but because of the way their relationship was before Hershel was kidnapped. The boy still seems unmotivated and tired, treating his own mother as disposable even after everything she went through to get there. The approach to motherhood and the responsibility of having a child is more deeply explored in this episode than in previous ones. We also discover here that New Babylon is interested in New York because of the number of walkers present, which are essential for producing energy through methane, as shown in the fourth episode of the series. If there is a renewal of the series, I don't see how this nucleus will fit back into the story of the second season, as the approach seems to be different.

Just when everything seemed to be over, the series surprises us again. Now in the hands of The Lady, Negan discovers that The Croat was just a means used for her to get what she wanted. The character wants a leader to unify the communities in Manhattan and from what she heard about the Sanctuary, it made her want to put Negan in this position. She gives him the "keys to the Kingdom" along with a box with Hershel's finger. The Lady implies that if Negan doesn't do what she wants, she can always come back for more, showing how cruel she can be. When you remove all the preparations, The Lady Smo is shown to be a collection of nothing under many conveniences. We start with the lack of zombies throughout the season conclusion, with no use of terror throughout the story, to the absurd ease with which Armstrong and Maggie return to their respective cities in a cut. The much-promised exchange between Hershel and Negan as bait has no suspense whatsoever; the fun Croat is subjugated to a lackey; New York becomes just another setting.

Dead City started with a promise of something with personality and identity in a worn-out franchise, but since then, we've only seen more of the same. Between zombies being discarded, underused scenarios, and a lack of creativity with suspense and horror, The Lady Smo tries to sell that Negan and Maggie fight as the culmination of something, but, in fact, the season's conclusion, which actually concludes nothing, ends Hershel's rescue with a completely anticlimactic and lazy plot that only wants to sell the next season instead of telling a good story.

Warning: Spoilers
This show shouldn't have been made, you could legit summarize it in one sentence an still be all caught up. This is prolly the most boring dumb written of the TWD spin-offs, for post apocalyptic it sure feels like survival an stakes seem to be that last thing on the show runners mind. Sure you can have a dramatic relationship with realism but when you have a person swallow a key an easily accept dying after surviving/suffering for years in hell. There's no easy way to say it but TWD died with Carl, whatever way you slice it whether you liked him character, he an Rick were gonna rule the world!
