One of the more fascinating aspects of the "Star Wars" franchise is just how many of its most important bits of lore don't arrive until the second movie, and sometimes not until the third. Yoda isn't in the first movie at all, for instance, nor is there any initial indication that Darth Vader is Luke's father. In perhaps the most awkward example of a creator not quite knowing where the story was heading, "A New Hope" also spends an uncomfortable amount of time lingering on the idea of a Luke/Leia romance.
Although everyone now knows that Leia and Han are the true main couple of the "Star Wars" franchise, back in 1977 it sure seemed like there was a love triangle being established here. Would Leia end up with the bad boy Han or the goody-two-shoes Luke? In the wait for "The Empire Strikes Back," it felt like anyone's guess.

Star Wars‘ is truly trailblazing in visual sense, but John Williams’ music for Episode IV: A New Hope marked the beginning of something fresh. The legendary composer has created music for the adventures of dinosaur-filled islands (Jurassic Park), the intense realities of war (Saving Private Ryan), and the magical realms of wizards (Harry Potter) but nothing compares to his music for epic space battles (Star Wars).
Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, and Derek Lyons in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Williams was requested to compose music for a film that would forever alter the landscape of filmmaking. The skilled composer matched director George Lucas’ vision with an opening theme that perfectly set the tone, grabbing viewers’ attention right from the start. But he would have almost made the same mistake as many Star Wars fans in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Exclusive: By his own admission, Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon does not fit the bicoastal profile of the typical film executive.
At the start of an hour-long interview with Deadline at New York’s Greenwich Hotel, the Tribeca venue owned by Robert De Niro, Harmon acknowledged that he was on only the second trip of his life to New York City. Asked for his impressions, he marveled, “It’s amazing to see so many people coming together and creating something like this city.”
The exec is the third of nine Harmon children raised in a Mormon family on an Idaho dairy farm. Two of his brothers are also execs working at Provo, Ut-based Angel, and another runs one of its episodic series. The family business has hit new heights over the past year, releasing left-field blockbuster Sound of Freedom and helping to foster episodic series like increasingly popular Biblical epic The Chosen.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
The ever-expanding Star Wars canon timeline can be hard to keep track of, especially as movies, TV series, and video games continue to intersect and bring back familiar characters from different eras. For example, Ahsoka, the main character of the new Disney+ series of the same name, has been a part of many major Star Wars events over the years, appearing in several shows that take place across different eras in the Galaxy’s history.
She was first introduced as Anakin Skywalker’s padawan in The Clone Wars and later joined the Rebels crew to help take down the Galactic Empire, while her origin story was told in a recent episode of Tales of the Jedi. Rosario Dawson introduced us to the live-action version of the character in The Mandalorian, and we last saw her in The Book of Boba Fett. We already...

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 1 -- "Master and Apprentice."
"Ahsoka" is the current culmination of a generation of television storytelling in the "Star Wars" universe. Led by Dave Filoni, who helped originate the character of Ahsoka Tano for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" working under the direct tutelage of George Lucas, the show gives us a view of the New Republic and Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) on her quest to protect it from the likes of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson). Years have passed and it seems apparent that Ahsoka and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) have gone questing for Thrawn and their lost friend Ezra (Eman Esfandi) already and come up with nothing, straining their relationship. But now, Ahsoka has a map to another galaxy, a clue to where Thrawn might have been. The only person Ahsoka knows who might be...

"Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Nah. I'm-a do my own thing." Yes, Miles, you tell them. This line is the key to Miles entire story – be you, stay true to you, don't let anyone tell you how to be, break the rules, define your own life your way. So let's get into this... In all honesty, what more can I say about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that hasn't already been said in 1000s of other glowing reviews of this animated masterpiece? (Read this one by our writer.) I only wish to chime in and state, for the record, that yes indeed I also think it's a brilliant, spectacular, mind-blowing film. Is it better than the first Into the Spider-Verse – which I also consider a masterpiece? I'm not sure I can say that yet, it's hard to compare them at this moment, much like it's...

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the few Star Wars Disney+ series that pays direct homage to the original George Lucas film canon, versus series such as The Mandalorian ,which heavily incorporate the animated lore created by Dave Filoni.
Episodic director and EP Deborah Chow had the daunting task of taking up the baton left behind by Lucas in the 2005 Star Wars movie Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, stylistically and story wise, to tell the continuing tale of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker-turned-Darth Vader and the young twins Leia and Luke.
Chow stepped into the series to direct all six episodes after another director vacated. She acknowledges that the series was originally hatched as a stand-alone movie on the latest episode of Crew Call.

What can be said about Star Wars: A New Hope that hasn’t been said before? How many different times can it be stated how George Lucas’ film changed pop culture, the movie business, most of our lives, the whole works? It’s hard to think of a movie – and the franchise it spawned – that’s been picked over, analyzed, dissected more than Star Wars. And yet here we are!
So why go over such familiar territory again? Maybe it’s because the Star Wars films – and we’re talking about the original trilogy here – capture our imagination in ways no other movies can. Better movies have been made, yes, but how many of them transport us so vividly into another universe, one that’s so foreign and yet so familiar? Star Wars puts a smile on the faces of those who love it, and that’s probably why we...

This Star Wars Jedi: Survivor article contains spoilers.
The High Republic is one of the newest eras on the Star Wars timeline and it currenty largely exists in the pages of the books and comics. Fans who have been following The High Republic series since it launched in 2021 know this era is a time of relative peace in the galaxy set 500 to 100 years before A New Hope.
The Jedi Order are at the height of their powers and the Sith are nowhere to be found (although we know they’re out there somewhere). Instead, the biggest threats to the majestic, gold robe-wearing Jedi Knights of this era are a faction of pirate terrorists known as the Nihil and a swarm of plant monsters called the Drengir. There’s no Empire or Clone Army or Jedi Purge. In other words, this is a very different Star Wars galaxy than what you...

Sometimes, it’s easy to figure out how a piece of Star Wars media fits into the larger Star Wars timeline. The Book of Boba Fett, for instance, clearly takes place after the Galactic Empire has fallen, but we only know that because of a few cameos from pre-existing characters and context clues. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doesn’t offer such obvious luxuries since it is a more self-contained story, which makes it more difficult to place in the greater timeline. Difficult, but not impossible.
Before we begin, we should explain some terminology. Much like the real world, the chronology of Star Wars falls into two periods: Before the Battle of Yavin (Bby) and After the Battle of Yavin (Aby). For reference, the Battle of Yavin is the famous assault on the Death Star in A New Hope and marked the Rebel Alliance’s first decisive victory against the Empire.

We older folks can remember a time when The Mandalorian simply had to have Ig-11 at his side when exploring Mandalore, no matter what it took to revive the exploded droid. Gosh, can you believe that was more than eight days ago…?
Listen, there is a lot to like, and some things to love, about Disney+’s flagship Star Wars series. But it’s been a bit puzzling why two very recent story points were very casually “undone” with not so much as a Jedi-like hand wave.

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.
The first chapter of the George Lucas‘ Original Trilogy would have turned out very differently had it not been for a bad motivator. Although R2-D2 is on a very important mission to get Princess Leia’s message to Obi-Wan Kenobi, A New Hope almost throws a wrench in the little droid’s plan when Uncle Owen initially chooses R5-D4 as his new astromech. But then fate intervenes: the rusty droid’s motivator pops out of its head, followed closely by plumes of smoke.
R5’s a piece of junk and now everyone knows it. The little droid had a shot to become the best pal of the galaxy’s greatest hero, and perhaps even go on a big adventure or two, but he blew it. Fortunately, we know, thanks to The Mandalorian, that those pesky Jawas eventually fixed poor R5 up,...

Last December, Disney announced seven new Star Wars film and TV projects, giving us a look at what the next few years in the galaxy far, far away will look like both on Disney+ and in theaters. While the Rogue Squadron movie directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) was the absolute mic drop of the evening, equally impressive is Disney’s plan for the small screen: several new series that expand the stories of fan-favorite characters like Ahsoka Tano and Lando Calrissian. Most intriguing of all is that many of these shows are designed to connect and interact with each other. In other words, Disney is finally getting what it’s always wanted for Star Wars: a shared universe of screen projects meant to emulate the interconnectedness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Wherefore art thou, Obi-Wan? The spinoff show about everyone’s favorite desert-dwelling Jedi hermit was supposed to be the jewel in the Disney+ crown. Announced with much fanfare, this would bring back Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and give us the adventures he had in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Unfortunately, mere days before the show started shooting, Lucasfilm slammed the brakes on, citing script problems.
Now, the series is reportedly being reworked from the ground up and is expected to air at some point in 2022. McGregor himself has said that the preliminary work on the project has been fun, so it hasn’t been cancelled outright, and in an interview with Ace Universe, he was asked what the show should be called. He confirmed there’s no fixed title yet, but said a fan has already thought of the best title there is, explaining:

Ask a Star Wars fan what their favorite movie in the saga is and the chances are that they’ve probably had a different top pick over the years. For instance, maybe they had a childhood favorite but then another one as an adult. It seems this applies to actors within the franchise, too, as Anthony Daniels has revealed that he’s now changed his long-held opinion about his personal choice for the finest film in the Skywalker saga.
The C-3Po actor tweeted over the weekend that he’s “always” thought that A New Hope was the best one, but having rewatched it recently, he’s decided that his new favorite is… Attack of the Clones. Kidding, kidding! It’s actually The Empire Strikes Back.

Warning: The following recap contains spoilers about tonight’s series finale of Disney+’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, “Victory and Death”
Visual awe and spectacle, more than the greater expansion of Star Wars mythology, was largely the star of tonight’s series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, however, the show’s multi-hyphenate Dave Filoni certainly left us scratching for more in regard to the further adventures of former Anakin Skywalker Padawan apprentice Ahsoka Tano.
And technically, no, Anakin did not make one last appearance tonight to speak with Ahsoka, nor was she transported to the events of Mustafar from Revenge of the Sith. However, Anakin’s dark alter-ego, Darth Vader, did put in an appearance during the final moments of “Victory and Death”. The empire’s reign is in full effect.
During the final season, some fans wondered whether Clone Wars would end just as Revenge of the Sith was beginning.

With the wild success of The Mandalorian, it’s no surprise that Disney is ramping up production of other Star Wars live-action TV series. The studio is already producing live-action series based on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Cassian Andor, and there are plenty of reports and rumors of other characters getting the Disney+ treatment.
The latest report alleges that Leslye Headland, the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of Netflix’s time-travel comedy Russian Doll, is working on a new series that will focus on a female lead “in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.” That last bit suggests that this new series won’t take place in the years right before A New Hope or after Return of the Jedi, taking fan-favorite characters like Ahsoka Tano out of the running, although she’s rumored to appear in The Mandalorian season 2.

The Mandalorian may currently stand alone in the arena of live-action small screen Star Wars shows, but it will be joined soon enough by the developing Disney+ Star Wars Cassian Andor series. It’s an intriguing offering, since the show will see one of the franchise’s big-screen stars, Diego Luna, reprise his role from 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Indeed, Luna is ready to tackle the show’s challenges, notably the elephant in the room regarding his character’s arc.
In a video chat interview with Indiewire, Luna—quarantined in his Mexico City home—discusses his next career step. The actor started by divulging the good news that his children, who had been infected by the coronavirus, have recovered and returned home from a quarantine. He subsequently revealed that he’s taking an indefinite break from his starring role on the Netflix fact-based crime drama, Narcos: Mexico,...

Long before Disney officially unveiled their streaming platform, we began hearing plenty of rumors with regards to what shows and movies the House of Mouse was actively working on. At the time, there was a lot of positive buzz surrounding The Mandalorian (the pre-release excitement turned out to be well-warranted, too), but we also heard a handful of rumors about other Star Wars projects planned for Disney Plus, including an Obi-Wan spinoff that would feature Ewan McGregor himself.
Over the past few months, the studio has shed some much needed light on the series, too, confirming Ewan’s involvement and the show’s placement in the timeline, among other things. However, we’ve also heard plenty about the series’ troubled development, including reports that production has been delayed indefinitely, with the crew and cast being sent home. And ever since then, the fate of the show has been a bit unclear.
