Finally
jared7925 February 2023
After 2 pretty bad seasons, we are finally getting something good from Picard. It would get a 10 if it wasn't for Michelle Hurd. Sorry, but she brings down the show with her bad overacting.

But, we finally have decent writing and an actual story line that doesn't feel disjointed. It's still early days, but I don't hate it. Kind of a "Strange New World" vibes, which has been the best modern trek yet.

The sad thing is Patrick Stewart is a little to old to carry a whole series and with mostly weak characters in season 1 and 2, it really struggled. Bringing back the TNG team was the right thing to do, and probably should have been done from season 1. But hindsight is good and they took two seasons, but they learnt.

I was super nervous going into this season, but so far, I am happy. Keep it up.

One cliff hanger to another :-)
VetteRanger3 March 2023
After Seven of Nine (Annika) shames her Captain into rescuing Picard, Riker, Crusher (in medical stasis) and her suddenly appearing NEW son (Wesley's little half-brother), he manages to do it, but in the process winds up face to face with a bounty hunter's ship with superior firepower.

Let forget how a bounty hunter can afford to buy and outfit a ship which outguns Starfleet's latest and greatest. Let's forget that she gives the Titan an hour to hand over Crusher (the son, not the mother). That's the classic villain mistake. Give our heroes an entire hour to come up with a way to weasel out of an untenable position.

Why forget it? Because us old-time fans are watching the Next Gen cast's last hurrah. We don't care how stupid the writers are. We're watching TV family for the last time, and the painful plotting doesn't destroy that experience.

Skepticism fading....
jamisonjohn23 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, at first I was skeptical. How could I not be, right? I know I'm not the only one. Fast forward to the last 25 minutes of this episode, it happened, it finally happened, WE GOT STAR TREK!! When Worf showed up to save Raffie and then back on the Titan, I felt chills and tears started to fall down my face. Relationships tested, thought provoking events, should I? Should I not? Captain Shaw isn't so bad. It came together. Plummer is an absolute delight in her role. Is it perfect? No way. There's some lack luster writing, but the elements are there. You'll barely notice. I loved the ending. I don't like that it took two episodes to do this. It could have been done in one. That's really my only gripe. That and BUY SOME LIGHT BULBS FOR THE BRIDGE!!

Now we know where Beverly was in Season 2 TNG
metdvls-124 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ed Spleelers was born in 1988- he and his character Jack Crusher are approx 34 years of age. During the second season of TNG and Beverly was conveniently off at Starfleet Medical which aired fall 1988. One can only surmise after the announcement we had all been waiting to hear that Jack Crusher was Picard's son- Beverly took the job at the convent- I mean Starfleet medical - to hide her pregnancy.

All of that being said- the episode and season starts to play like a Jackie Collins novel. But it kind of works.

As for Rafi's story- I told friends Worf was Rafi's handler and I was right. Again- the plot is being predictable. Why so simplistic- what good is shocking the fans with secrets after secrets. At some point- you need to let them in on the gag to enjoy the gag.

First ever review
gdavies-gdesign24 February 2023
A longtime lover of the Next Gen series, for all its ups and downs I loved the way it explored morality in a complex way. It explored questions more than clear answers. This feels that same way, filmic like First Contact and still uses eclectic space opera to explore inner conflict. I'm so in. Thank you for finding the voice, if you've been waiting for that old feeling I think you can find it here. Great work all round.

This series could almost be a beginning. I'm not trying to insult what came before but if you're curious to reconnect to the heart of Next Gen, you can't start with this season and applaud; with some sweaty eyeballs occasionally.

S3 E2 - Continues to impress
kzjbdz24 February 2023
Season 3 continues to impress and deliver what we had hoped for from the first season but never got.

Great introduction of Worf and his connection to the plot revealed. Feels very cinematic Next Gen - more like the movies than the TNG series, so if you like them you will like this.

It isn't wholesome and painting a picture of a better world (which some reviewers find disappointing as deviates from Roddenberry's vision) but it creates a more corrupt universe that lends itself to a different type of story - terrorism, intergalactic gangsters, drug addicts, freedom fighters etc - which I am enjoying.

If it continues at this rate, it looks like a strong 8/10 series and an entertaining Trek (at last!)

YES.....Finally -MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT
Pomplemoose-Pass23 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well it took 2 seasons of insipid nonsense to finally get it right but this here is what we've been waiting for and it's got it all: Action, suspense, humour, intrigue and a conspiratorial story line that has some flesh. It's not perfect but the introduction of some new characters along with the old has given this season a breath of life. Jack Crusher is a massive improvement on Wesley (LOL) and captain Liam Shaw is suitably arrogant - having just enough contempt for Picard and Riker to make things even more interesting. The villain is a real psychopath; relentless and unhinged with a maniacal laugh, and reminds me of a female Khan. But of course the scene stealer for me was Rafi getting rescued by none other than WARF. I must admit, I was nervous to watch the second episode, fearing it would go the same way as the previous series' i.e., downhill...but I'm so relieved it maintained the quality of episode 1. Now l can't wait for episode 3!

Star Trek Picard S03 - Now that's more like it!

Edge of your seat "family" fun...
katsharples23 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
You don't know Jack, but then again it won't take long for you to figure out who he is. Riker figured it out right away, and Picard refused to even acknowledge what he realized as well. Beverly has been hiding from everyone she knows for the past 25 years, because she had someone equallly important to hide. Jean-Luc Picard always put his career ahead of laying down any kind of family roots, believing he didn't need any. His family became the crew that he served with along the way. Now many years later the ghost that is Beverly Crusher needs his help because his secret son, Jack, is in danger. Jack and Beverly have been serving the forgotten fringe of Federation space by offering medical aid by any means necessary. Thievery has made Jack a wanted man, but his crimes have ignited a much deeper threat that will require Picard to ask his whole "family" for help.

Nostalgia still has its place
terrypburns-8085824 February 2023
Some negative reviews when we need to embrace this programme for what it is... Closure on what was a phenomenal rebirth of the franchise. Kirk and Co where a cult - unappreciated in their own time and saved by the films. Next gen cemented star trek in our lives and every second of screen time is a moment of nostalgia that should be appreciated. A thank you to the producers and cast for the new material, there is a gratitude due that cannot be fulfilled - from every trek fan... thank you.

This episode finally addresses what we always knew... Picard and Beverly where overcome in their dual of destiny versus duty - at least its not a skinny Tom Hardy this time!

Warning: Spoilers
It's still ok, not great. There are many strange things here, like Shaw saying they're outgunned before the bad girl let them have a close look at her arsenal. Or Riker proposing they are in a stalemate with the enemy because they've managed to stop 3 enemy soldiers on a defunct starship without weapons.

The moment was great when Picard finally gives orders but the writers immediately follow with something stupid. Shaw and his crew just follow this previously mentioned "retired admiral" - why does he wield authority all of a sudden?

And why Picard? He was a man who wasn't swayed by sentimentality. Now he is only able to take the reigns if he has an emotional reason? That seems like quite a departure from the Captain we all know and love.

A cigar-smoking over-the-top villain is not the thing that I want from my Star Trek but I hope there's more to this character.

And why didn't Shaw just beamed them over and jumped to Warp again? Why linger? Why?

Why are the transporters not detecting devices that can disrupt force fields or even weapons for that matter?

Why is Worf doing an Elnor and decapitates the suspect for a potential interrogation?

It seems there are shortcuts being taken to get this story along. At least the characters feel right for the most part.

Finally Star Trek
hamed-m24 February 2023
This was the first episode of the whole show that actually felt like the good old Star Trek I'm used to.

Though I'm not a fan of the dark style, it's reminding me of the first contact.

Also the characters that are introduced are finally interesting and not annoying anymore. Captain Shaw is very interesting, the ferengi guy and the female captain of the alien ship are extremely well played and have some intriguing concepts.

The whole episode had the old moral and ethic dilemmas that Star Trek was famous for.

The chemistry between the old tng crew is amazing and takes you right back to the old days. Also Picard isn't the geriatric old grandpa anymore. He is the captain/admiral we needed.

I'm hopeful. Thank you.

After a good start...
christianschumann24 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Part 1 was fine (8 out of 10), but here it starts to go south. So first the bad stuff:
  • no way to find out if Jack is Crushers son, until she awakes??? Is there no brain on board?

  • Vadic.... why do we need a crazy villain? And again a massively overpowered villain ship... I guess there will be an explanation later, but it just is too much, over the top

  • Jack is actually a wanna be Han Solo, and a bad one at that. I liked him in the first episode, but not in this one. And I hoped he would not be Picards son. Maybe there is still hope...

  • Rafi worse then in last episode, almost on level of previous seasons. The storyline is bad, feels like something from a dark crime drama, but not well written or acted, still feels to much like Kurzman crap
  • I hate the way Worf is introduced. Yes, he is a warrior, but he could have solved this differently. Decapitation.... Why?

  • still nobody found the light switch

Picard, Riker and the Titan stuff is largely fine otherwise. I kind of like Shaw, his arguments are valid, but it is not consistent that he completly changes his mind when he learns that Jack is Picards son.

Hopefully gets better again.

Disengage, unfortunately
thinkMovies23 February 2023
They are zero for two, at the end of the second episode. Star Trek was about exploration and bettering ourselves. It was never about personal vendettas, vengeance, and getting from Earth to the end of Federation space overnight at Ultra-Warp I-don't-know-what...

And what's with the total darkness. How can they see each other on the bridge? Are they economizing on studio lights? It's not arty-dark with highlights. It's just ridiculous.

It is a great pity because this is the last season. Where are they going with it? So far, Jean-Luc is missing his walker, or wheelchair, Riker is a sidekick, Beverly is from Madam Tussauds Wax Museum and unconscious, the new captain is a moron, Seven is totally out of character from seasons one and two, the crew are like scared cadets, and the new addition, Beverly's son, is a far cry from his much older half-brother.

The only actor anywhere near the level of Sir Patrick Stewart is Amanda Plummer, but the script writers are fully utilizing neither of them.

Looking at Star Trek TOS, TNG, DS9 and VGR I cannot help but ask are they writing to a much dumber audience these days or are the creators also dumbed-down in the 21st century?

They got another 8 episodes to leave us older Federation citizens with a better taste in our mouths than what we are getting so far.

Spoiler alert: what an epic return to form!
kpronk7024 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The way the return of Worf was written/filmed... goose bumps allover, including tears in my eyes in a flashback return trip back to the kid I was when Star Trek TNG was aired around 1987/88 in The Netherlands. What an epic show that was, what a cast. This season of Picard will be bring "closure" for a generation, it will also reaffirm how good Star Trek TNG was back then to sill lean on it now (and rightfully so).

In retrospect, it is almost stupefying to realize that a TV show can have such a profound and enduring positive influence on ones outlook on live, science, space - place of humans in space - and society in general. E.g. I have been following NASA JLP ever since.

TEN STARS STAR TREK
-Do you remember the days, back in the late 90's when you were watching a great movie in prime time on television, in week-ends and you remanied facinated for hours, thinking about that movie ?...Well this is happening to me and others kijw me watching this season of Star Trek Picard, the action, the visuals, the overcomplex story and above all of that, the trek feeling are so proeminent, everthing is on the right place in this franchise after more than 20 years, just when i though this will never be possible again just try to compare this with the first season of Discovery, when we all tried to imagine the old klingons should have looked like the orcs from Discovery, man, that was so traumatic for me as an old fan, but this, this is so great, this is smething i will mever dare to dream of.cTanks for improovingcmy end if day with such an excellent hour of Star Trek content.

AT LAST. Star Trek is back
csglb21 April 2023
AT LAST. Star Trek is back This is proper stories, proper characters, proper villains. I loved the first series but the second was far to complicated. To many characters. And I never thought I would say this but the Borg is used to many times in plot lines. This third season is the nearest to next generation as you can get. It's so warming to see all the old characters back too. There is something so comforting in the characters and story line. Even the names of Le Forge and Beverly Crusher is lovely. I'd guess the next generation actors would not be willing to make mire series but I'd pay to watch series 4. 5. etc.

One of the Greatest Scenes in Star Trek History
mfuson7728 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Picard Season 3 Episode: Disengage is a well-constructed story that keeps you "engaged" and wanting more.

On the bridge of the USS Titan, with only one minute to a deadline to handover Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers) to Vadic (Amanda Plummer). Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick) prepares to handover Jack Crusher to save the Titan from certain destruction by Vadic. Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart), with no more options to save Jack seems, desperate and lost. The sound of the turbo lift draws Picard's attention to Will Riker (Johnaton Frakes) and Beverly Crusher (Gates Mcfadden) walk onto the bridge. Nothing is spoken. Their eyes meet and Picard knows what to do. As Admiral, he orders the ship locked down. When Captain Shaw protests, Picard says. "He's my son."

Absolutely brilliant writing. This is going to be a tear-jerker season, I can feel it!

Fantastic!!! The Way Star Trek Should Be!
moviefan99999999984 March 2023
Wow! The cast, the acting, the story! Amanda Plummer as the villain like her father before her, Christopher Plummer in the Undiscovered Country as General Chang! Clearly this is written by a true Trek lover and not by some woke up nonsense. Star Trek the way it should be fun, memorable and enjoyable. It always amazes me how TNG and Voyager could make you feel a range of emotion in just one hour. I watched the first two seasons of Picard and was unimpressed. But season 3 starts fresh and is excellent!!!! Welcome back Star Trek and the TNG cast you have again shown what Star Trek is! Make it so number one!!!

Few minutes about Picard, then few minutes about Raffi
hnsnn26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't like that at all. Who wants to be watching for 5 minutes e. G. football, then next five minutes basketball? This is badly switching out attention. If i wrote script for this season, i would use one episode only for Picard and then next episode only for Raffi.

Captain of the Titan is more enemy than friend in first episode and most time of the second one but after Picard says that son of Bevery is his son too, then captain becomes friendly in 5 seconds. Very stupid. Captain never saw Beverly before. In such situation we can't become friends of an unknown person so quickly.

What to say more, newer season is worse than the first one.

Which star trek
yahaira-729-6947018 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just started watching this episode 2 and I'm lost in the with this narrative Is Jack is son or is it Q playing his games as Jack kept saying mon ami Q's favorite tease to Picard mon ami and mon capitan.

So where is this going as Raffi seeks answers from Sneed a typical business minded frangi. Many cliff hangers are hard to follow who these characters are?

I am an old trek since the beginning in the late 1960's. Looking to be excited about the last days of the 'next generation' story. But so far no one seems to take Piacard's leading role. For this series to continue does he pass the mantle to Jack? Does Jack have the charisma of Kirk? Like I said lots of cliff hangers. Cheers.

Disengage
Prismark1023 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Of course Jack Crusher is Jean-Luc Picard's son. He has an English accent even though Picard is French. Just disengage your brain at this point.

A secret son gave me flashbacks to Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock. It did not end well for David Kirk.

Although it is difficult to understand why Beverly Crusher wanted this to be kept secret and disappeared for over twenty years. I like to think in the future there would be no such thing as hereditary baldness.

Captain Liam Shaw redemption arc seems to him being a complete jerk. If he acted the way he intended, he would be facing a court martial.

Amanda Plummer who gained notoriety for playing deranged psychos in the 1990s seems to be a shoo in as Vadic. In fact her unhinged performance reminded me a lot of her father's in Star Trek 6. She just needs to quote some Shakespeare. I did like her battle tactics. Blunt force trauma.

The biggest surprise was the appearance of bad ass Worf. He is Raffi's handler and in a battle Worf does not lose his head.

Certainly an engaging episode. Not yet on full thrusters as various characters and plotlines still need to beam in.

Not Star Trek
trammy13 March 2023
The producer and writers have destroyed the legacy of Star Trek.

As a fan of TNG and Voyager, I am truly disappointed at what Star trek has become. It is supposed to represent a version of humanity where life was valued, strive for better. Respectful dialogue. Now its just like any other sci fi. The unique feel of Star Trek is gone. I really thought Picard would be redemption from the disappointment of Discovery. But is the same. Don't get me wrong, improve but don't suck the essence of what makes Star Trek great. The new Star Trek movies atleast tried. After watching Picard I had to go back and watch my favourite episodes from TNG and Voyager to feel better and recover from this disappointment 😞

Not bad but not great either.
Arch-Carl25 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Why shouting raise shields when in red alert wear shield should auto be raised.? Picture is still too dark and the shaking of camera is too much and too often was dizzying on eyes and smoking really bad to have in add to drug use and anything do with Raffie is bad to put mildly and swearing felt out of place for star trek. Sound if so so but that may have been on my end don't know but will say story written is much better then last two seasons plus acting and characters all better so far not counting Raffie sorry keep going on about it but that character is and has always been terrible would of done better without it, those parts were not greatly written and so called secret used be section 31 is now known by everyone apparently.

But was great to see Wolf back and kicking ass all say was off with his head. (Highlander would be proud lol.) Just shame not see fight so well.

Amanda Plummer Was Perfect Choice!!!
Erin5026623 June 2023
Who's ever idea it was the cast Amanda Plummer as a villain, is a genius! She is perfect in this role- a little bit of her usual fey, which seems her signature in most roles, with the cruelty of any other Star Trek villain. She also brings a touch of humor and it's a delightful combination to the role. It is also so wonderful to see all our favorite TNG, et al, cast come back, sort of a final reunion/ farewell. Take off some gray hair and you would be back on the Enterprise of TNG! Using the setting around Frontier Day, the chronological day it really all began for the entire series of Star Trek, was another sweet touch. Season 3 is definitely the best and we will miss these characters so much!
