AMC is getting out of the reality show business and is cancelling several shows. Other than The Walking Dead aftershow Talking Dead and Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men, the cable channel has decided to focus solely on scripted series.
Production on Game of Arms, which was recently renewed for a second season, will shut down immediately. Small Town Security and Freakshow have also been cancelled.
Producers on the dropped shows will have the option of finding another home for their series, with AMC’s full cooperation. This includes two other projects with Smith and Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling.

It used to be that summer was a desolate wasteland, at least when it came to original television. The networks, like teachers, pretty much took the season off and cable was still in its infancy, struggling to find a way to quench that particular thirst. But these days, summer is just as viable for original programming as the fall and midseason, and this year is no different.
We've decided to run down the biggest premieres from the hottest networks (in alphabetical order), making sure to note the starriest, sexiest, most interesting new and returning programs for you to watch at the end of a long, hot summer day. Once again Louie dared visit a topic that TV has otherwise avoided by acknowledging that men use sex toys. Jokes about women’s vibrators have become commonplace, but a similar joke about men is acknowledging a truth that’s mostly ignored. It was a brilliant bit for the season opener, with the kind of brutal honesty that makes Louie one of TV’s best comedies.
Damon Wayans Jr. will be a series regular on the fourth season of New Girl. Now that that’s been taken care of, when can we get some kind of Happy Endings reunion?
A month ahead of the debut of its second season, Netflix has ordered a third season of Orange is the New Black.
Kristian Nairn talked with Vulture and said what had to be said about Hodor‘s potential as king, “I don’t think Hodor could be any worse than Joffrey.

AMC even jokes about how predictable this decision was, in the headline of the press release: “Even the Walkers Saw It Coming”. What a bunch of jokesters they are. Yes it’s true, AMC, in the non-surprise move of the season, has picked up a fifth season of its blockbuster The Walking Dead.

AMC has found itself in another carriage dispute — and this one has a uniquely catty tone to it. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. district court in New York on Oct. 11, Canadian service provider Telus claims that AMC is threatening to wrongfully break its carriage agreement with Telus and is aggressively trying to jack up the carriage fees it receives from the company. King Of Arms takes a look inside the raw and highly-competitive world of American arm wrestling. AMC has ordered 10 one-hour episodes of the series set to premiere in the first quarter of next year and timed to the second half of Season 4 of The Walking Dead. King Of Arms hails from Deadliest Catch producers Matt Renner and Ethan Prochnik and Dan Ilani, a partner in their recently formed Undertow Films. The series will follow members of five arm wrestling clubs, and their friends and families, as they hit the road and wager their rent money, reputations and even their relationships in pursuit of victory. The network also announced that it’s renewing series Small Town Security for a third season. Small Town Security explores a small, family-run security and private investigation company in Ringgold, Ga called Jjk Security. More zombies? Yes please. More shows of the caliber of The Walking Dead, about the zombie apocalypse? Yes. Please. As the president of AMC says, it’s a no-brainer. Yes it’s a great line, but it’s also an excellent point. Given the stunning success of the show, why wouldn’t they?
The Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman will be an executive producer, joined by the two other primary Twd executive producers, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Although it will be set in the same world as Twd, it will be an otherwise entirely new storyline, outside of the comics series. It’s currently hoped to be on our screens in 2015.

The third annual Critics' Choice Television Awards features what is becoming the awards' signature mix of no-brainer and under-the-radar nominees.
So while "Breaking Bad" and "Homeland" are nominated for best drama series, so is "The Americans." The best comedy nominees include "The Big Bang Theory" and "Louie," but also "The Middle."
"Big Bang" and "American Horror Story: Asylum" lead the nominees with six apiece. "Parks and Recreation" and Sundance's miniseries "Top of the Lake" have five each. There were a couple of surprise omissions too: "Mad Men" was shut out of the best drama nominees, and of the cast only Elisabeth Moss scored an acting nomination. Ditto for "Modern Family" on the comedy side; Sarah Hyland was the only cast member nominated.
The Critics' Choice Television Awards are set for June 10. "Parks and Rec's" Retta will serve as host.

Well, it’s that time of year again. As shows start airing their season finales, the world is nevertheless abuzz with TV-related news and hype. The upfronts mean that everyone is attempting to gear up for next season, and viewers are hopefully finding shows that they can look forward to. And, it’s award time. After the brief rest since the movie awards were the big thing on everyone’s mind, now we kick into TV awards.
The Btja (of which I am a member) announced their nominees today for the Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
And you know what that means. That’s right, just like during movie awards season, it is now time to cheer on your favorites, and gripe about the snubs and odd choices. Frankly, I find a few odd selections in here myself, and I have a decent list of snubs, some of which stagger the imagination.
