‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the newest addition to the franchise, having premiered three weeks ago amid a polarizing reception. It has stirred significant debate, hailed by some for innovation while criticized for straying from canon and its high budget. Online opinions range from extreme praise to severe criticism, but the reality lies somewhere in between.
Could the show improve? Certainly. With a $180 million budget, my expectations were higher than what we’ve seen in just two episodes of minimal action. However, we’re only halfway through the season, and anticipating epic fight scenes ahead is warranted. As I’ve noted, the show is a mixed bag, showcasing both strong elements and significant shortcomings under the showrunner’s direction.

Disney’s new Star Wars project, “The Acolyte,” premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, and is still ongoing. Before its release, many were concerned about how this new addition to the Star Wars universe would fare. Critics have been generally satisfied, seeing a lot of potential in the series, while fans remain polarized—some enjoy the show, while others dislike it. Regardless of whether the fans’ issues are ideological, “The Acolyte” has caused an uproar in the Star Wars community due to several moments that break canon, which is a significant concern.
The Force birth, Ki-Adi-Mundi’s cameo, and the upcoming fight between the Jedi and the Master, who appears to be a Sith Lord, all contradict established canon. These discrepancies are issues the series will need to address if it hopes to retain its credibility within the franchise.

The Star Wars Universe has continued to expand since 1977, bringing several new stories that kept audiences hooked. However, projects like Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte series have ignited quite a lot of controversy. Initially hailed as a fresh perspective on sci-fi lore, it has now hit rock bottom in the audiences’ minds, which heavily affected its overall audience score.

Star Wars’ latest series The Acolyte is not having the best time right now, to say the least. While there are some fans who appreciate the show and are glad to see where the franchise is heading, the majority is of the opinion that The Acolyte is one of the worst TV shows in the fictional universe. There were some complaints about the writing and the writers’ team which even included someone who had never seen Star Wars before.

When one of the writers was asked whether Dave Filoni, the Cco of Lucasfilm, was consulted before writing the episodes, she stated that he not only was he consulted but he also gave notes and approved the scripts. Since Dave Filoni was involved in The Acolyte and not Andor, probably the best Star Wars show out there, some fans couldn’t help but question his credibility.

In a universe far, far away—or rather, right here on the blue planet—The Acolyte’s showrunner Headland’s candid critique has added more spice than a Tatooine sandstorm. Guess what’s the biggest battle in the Star Wars galaxy right now? It’s over labels! Headland’s in a force-choke of confusion. Why, you must wonder? Misinterpretations. Criticism. Unawareness.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ premiered 3 weeks ago, and even before its premiere the show was quite controversial with its premise, and some statements that cast members and creators gave to the public. Soon after its premiere, the show turned out to be a classic example of both review-bombing and review-boosting. Critics gave it unreasonable high scores while fans gave it unreasonable low scores.
Currently, the show has 85% on Rotten Tomatoes when it comes to critics score and a 14% audience score, the decreasing streaming numbers certainly prove that it’s not all about review-bombing.
Since the show generated a lot of backlash, some cast members already started responding to show criticism and personal attacks. No matter what you think about the show and someone’s acting abilities it’s never okay to personally attack people because of a corporate Disney product. The reactions ranged from memes and jokes to death threats...

Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte, quickly gained notoriety and was on track to become the most controversial Star Wars project of all time, even before its official premiere, as most of you will know by now. The series finally premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024 with two episodes and is now ongoing. While Disney revealed that the series attracted high ratings and the critics have been praising it as a very bold Star Wars series, the fans have been raging on the Internet over the show’s perceived woke content, as well as how it breaks canon, which resulted in extremely low audience scores.
As of the time of writing, we are reporting that The Acolyte‘s audience scores have plummeted and that it now has a very rotten rating at just 14%, which makes it one of the worst-rated shows of all time, we assume. But, as we’ve said,...

It seems The Acolyte has perhaps not been as critically acclaimed as we might have expected. We never expected this recent Star Wars TV series to set a record-breaking course through space, albeit for reasons as impromptu as a plot twist in a galaxy far, far away. After beaming less than half of its first season into our living rooms, The Acolyte has achieved the dubious honor of becoming the worst-rated Star Wars television series, descending to a 14% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now that the fourth episode of The Acolyte is streaming on Disney+, Lucasfilm has released a second batch of character posters, this time spotlighting Mae's twin Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and a group of highly enigmatic supporting players.
Each banner is accompanied by a profile of each character, and while they make for interesting reading, you won't find any hints about the true identity of the mysterious "Master." Even so, there's a very good chance one of these individuals will ultimately be unmasked as the Dark-side warrior who made his presence felt in the closing moment of this week's episode.
Right now, the most popular theory points to Manny Jacinto's former smuggler Qimir, who appears to know a bit too much about Mae's mission and the Master's orders. This would seem a little too obvious, however, and could turn out to be a red herring.
Check out the new posters at the links below,...

While there are those who believe The Acolyte is being "review-bombed," the huge surge of negative verdicts means it now has an Audience Score (14%) on Rotten Tomatoes which is worse than even the hilariously bad Star Wars Holiday Special.
Seeing as the show has an 84% score from critics, there's clearly a stark contrast between how critics and fans have responded to the series. However, newly revealed viewership data from Variety (via SFFGazette.com) may paint a very different picture when it comes to whether The Acolyte can be considered a success.
In a Top 10 list which measures the minutes watched by every streaming original TV show between June 7 - June 13, Netflix dominates with 9 titles.
The likely reason for that is the streamer's tendency to release entire seasons at a time; however, even with only two episodes of The Acolyte available on Disney+, it still managed to reach the #6 spot.

There have always been toxic elements to every fandom, but over the past few years, we have seen an increase in targetted online abuse, with many "fans" taking their criticism way too far by spewing bile at the people involved with the movies and TV shows they claim to love.
Star Wars has been hit particularly hard, with the perception that Disney is pushing a "woke agenda" by shifting focus to Black, female, and LGBTQ+ characters in their projects leading to some shockingly hateful backlash.
As a gay Black woman, The Acolyte star Amandla Stenberg has found herself in the firing line since before the show even aired, but the harassment escalated when an out-of-context clip of the actress saying "white people crying was the goal" on a 2018 talk show did the rounds last week.
Now, Stenberg has released a new music video in response.

The Acolyte has introduced heaps of new characters to the Star Wars franchise, though Dafne Keen's Jedi Padawan Jecki Lon has emerged as an early fan favourite.
With the Disney+ series taking place roughly 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace, it's not clear what ultimately becomes of Jecki or any of The Acolyte's leads (three of the Jedi have already been killed thanks to the mysterious Master pulling Mae's strings from the shadows).
While the prevailing theory is that he's a Sith, The Master could be a Dark Jedi, meaning this series won't necessarily fill in the gaps in the Star Wars franchise's timeline many fans hope to see addressed here. So, potentially no Darth Plagueis!
In the meantime, they're quickly becoming invested in these characters, including Jecki and Osha's budding friendship. When Decider (via SFFGazette.com) asked Keen whether The Acolyte is "continuing its...

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Acolyte episode 4.
We’re halfway through Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte, and while episode 4 “Day” put us on the brink of war as Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae ) faced off against the mystery Sith master, fans think they’ve clocked the show’s big reveal. The focus of The Acolyte, created and run by Leslye Headland, has been the duality of twin sisters Mae and Osha (both played by Amandla Stenberg), however, there’s an altogether bigger mystery about who’s pulling the strings behind Mae’s Jedi hit list.
Unless The Acolyte pulls a Solo: A Star Wars Story to introduce some random character under the mask of the fan-nicknamed Sith “Darth Teeth,” the series has almost certainly already introduced us to Mae’s master. Wild theories range from Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) to Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva), Yord (Charlie Barnett...

The Acolyte has not escaped the spotlight, featuring its fair share of criticism since showrunner Leslye Headland took the reins. Despite this, it honors the Star Wars tradition of fantastic creatures from across the galaxy. Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, and is still ongoing. Before the premiere, many of us were worried about how Disney’s new Star Wars project would turn out in the end. The series had become a controversial project even before the premiere, as no one was sure how it would look in the end. Showrunner Leslye Headland also sparked a lot of controversies with her comments on the show and the franchise in general, claiming stuff that some fans considered outrageous. But, while a lot of the criticism that the series attracted was ideologically motivated – many fans are review bombing the show because it is too woke – there are some objective issues with the series, and one recent cameo is the best example of that.
In the most recent episode of The Acolyte, a Jedi resembling the famous Ki-Adi-Mundi appeared in a brief cameo appearance.

Over a decade back, Disney acquired Lucasfilm and, with it, the hallowed IP of Star Wars. Not long after, the entertainment juggernaut rolled out its trilogy of films, which debuted to an overall mixed response, with the third movie facing the ire of fans for its interpretation of the Skywalker legacy. In a similar turn of events, the franchise’s latest Disney+ show, The Acolyte, landed in hot soup, specifically after its third episode seemingly amended the long-established canon in many places.

Revolving around the perspectives of twins, Mae and Osha, the series features a coven of Force-sensitive witches and is set towards the end of the High Republic era. However, it has found intensive criticism from many sections of the audience and reviewers, of which one has openly questioned Disney’s forced push of inclusivity and diversity while completely disregarding story and narrative arcs.

Dave Filoni seems open to the idea of Star Wars following Marvel, and going with an R-rated production. More here.
The incumbent chief creative officer at Lucasfilm is Dave Filoni, and with his feet very much under the table, he’s been chatting about where the Star Wars saga could be heading in the future.
Talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the discussion turned to Disney’s upcoming release, Deadpool & Wolverine. Expected to be a huge hit, the movie is also the first to go out under the Disney name with an R-rating attached (notwithstanding the amount of fruity stuff available to stream on the Disney+ service), and the question was asked whether – in the future too – Star Wars too could go the same way.
Filoni seemed quite open to this. Adding the inevitable qualifier that “the bottom line is whatever we do, it has to be really well...

The Star Wars franchise started its Hollywood journey back in 1977 with the George Lucas-helmed movie. Since then, it has produced many more projects, including live-action and animation, for both TV and movie. Its latest presentation is The Acolyte, a Disney+ series set at the end of the High Republic era. It happens all before the main story of the saga starts with the prequel series, and then the Skywalker series.

The Acolyte promised viewers a dive into the Jedi Order’s heyday, long before Palpatine’s conspiracies would bring the entire order crashing down. Show creator Leslye Headland talked about her relationship with the franchise often, looking to pull from the Extended Universe (the Legends timeline) to craft the canon version of the last days of the High Republic.

Leslye Headland’s latest addition to the Star Wars universe, The Acolyte, has been facing some overwhelming criticism, despite being a fresh take on the Star Wars lore. A number of fans on social media are complaining that the franchise is allegedly following a “woke” agenda with this series, instead of focusing on the storyline.

The Acolyte recently debuted its fourth episode as the series continues to be divisive among the Star Wars fan base. After drawing fans’ ire for mistreating the franchise’s lore in its third episode, the fourth episode repeated the feat with one Jedi cameo from the prequel trilogy movies, which makes no sense.

While it's been confirmed that Plo Koon isn't in The Acolyte, yesterday evening's episode did feature the surprise return of Ki-Adi-Mundi.
Silas Carson portrayed the Jedi Master in George Lucas' prequels, but Derek Arnold - an English puppeteer and actor who worked as a creature and droid performer on several recent Star Wars projects - takes over the role in this series.
It's a fun cameo for longtime Star Wars fans, but also one which has also upset a lot of people. The main argument is that The Acolyte is playing fast and loose with both the hero's lifespan and history.
The only problem with that argument is, the second Disney acquired Lucasfilm, all that Expanded Universe/Legends material was rendered non-canon. As a result, The Acolyte marks Ki-Adi-Mundi's "first" official...

When it comes to releasing new projects in a pre-existing franchise, it is very important for the creators to follow some strict rules. One of the most important, unsaid rules is to stay within the bigger story of the entire series. These often take years, if not decades, to set up and have so much effort put into them that fans cannot help but be protective.

Bryce Dallas Howard will be returning to the Star Wars franchise as a director in the upcoming show Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. “Star Wars” is offering up one of the best mysteries it has in quite some while on “The Acolyte.” Who is the Sith Lord who calls himself just The Master and wears a ferocious mask studded with menacing teeth?
This is a franchise that loves a big reveal, after all. And it seems that all signs are pointing in one direction after Episode 4, titled “Day.” The clues to the Sith Lord’s identity abound, and all signs point to Manny Jacinto’s Qimir, a smuggler, fence, and fixer of sorts who’s been aiding acolyte Mae (Amandla Stenberg) with insights into what The Master wants. In previous episodes he gave her the poison that killed Master Torbin, and he’s generally just been “there,” dropping nuggets about The Master, such as that he “likes to collect people.”

This Star Wars: The Acolyte article contains spoilers.
The Acolyte hasn’t been shy about introducing new Jedi characters so far—and a few Sith-aligned Force users, too. While fans of the Original Trilogy are used to seeing only one or two Jedi on screen at a time, The Acolyte is set before even the Prequel Trilogy, meaning Order 66 hasn’t happened yet and there are a lot more Jedi Knights running around the galaxy and going on missions together. In fact, in episode four, Master Sol leads a whole expedition of Jedi Knights to the Outer Rim planet Khofar to seek out Wookiee Jedi-in-exile Kelnacca before Mae can kill him.
Now, because The Acolyte takes place 100 years before the start of the Prequels, most of the Jedi featured in the series aren’t ones we’ve seen before. The High Republic book and comics fans will instantly recognize Master Vernestra Rwoh,...

After a flashback episode last week, The Acolyte returns to Mae & Osha’s present conflict, but things are looking a bit stale. Here’s our The Acolyte episode 4 review.
Spoiler warning! These reviews are spoiler-free for the week in question, but will discuss previous episodes in detail.
The Acolyte episode 4 brings us to the halfway point of the new Star Wars series. Episodes 1 and 2 were intriguing, but slightly uneven and last week’s episode was a full flashback episode featuring spacewitches, but episode 4 brings things to almost a halt.
In it, Mae (Amandla Stenberg) arrives on Khofar with Qimir (Manny Jacinto), intending to kill Master Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo). If she manages to kill the Jedi Master without using a weapon, she’ll fulfil her promise to the mysterious Sith Master. If not, she’ll be killed.
Naturally, Sol (Lee Jung-jae) is still after Mae and convinces Mae’s twin Osha to accompany them.

The release of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has severely divided the community. The show has been review-boosted and review-bombed simultaneously by fans and critics alike all chiming in with their arguments why ‘The Acolyte’ is both the best and the worst thing to happen to Star Wars canon.
Oh, and canon has been terribly discussed over the course of 4 episodes that were released. The show so far has terrible pacing, and when something interesting happens, it draws tons of reactions on both sides.
So let’s start with the authentic portion of the show. The show is based on the EU and deals with the High Republic era of Galaxy Far Away, this is why we don’t exactly have a reference point in live-action to compare it to something else. So far the characters introduced are colorful and I think no one minds them all that much, especially Wookie Jedi Kelnacca,...

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ released its fourth episode, but the pacing issues persist. Episode 3 was highly controversial, primarily due to the introduction of the Witches of Brendok, a coven of Force-users who allegedly conceived a child using the Force.
In episode 4, Mae lands on the densely forested planet of Khofar in search of Jedi Master Kelnacca, her next target to gain favor with her Sith Master. Meanwhile, the Jedi on Coruscant are organizing a search party to find both Kelnacca and Mae.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ dropped its fourth episode, and the pacing doesn’t seem to improve all that much. Episode 3 was highly controversial due to several reasons first and foremost due to the introduction of Witches of Brendok, a coven of force-users who apparently managed to conceive a child via the use of force.
Now in episode 4, we see Mae landing on the heavily forested planet of Khofar searching for Jedi Master Kelnacca who is her next target to gain favor with her Sith Master. At the same time, the Jedi on Coruscant are forming their own search party, to look for both Kelnacca and Mae.
Proceed cautiously if you still haven’t watched this week’s episode since the rest of the article is filled with spoilers.
Nothing really happens for the majority of the episode, Mae is having cold feet regarding killing Kelnacca without a weapon and eventually ditches Qimir.

This article from the Disney+ series The Acolyte (2024) Season 1 Episode 4 contains significant spoilers.
The fourth episode of the Disney+ series The Acolyte is one of the most epic installments of episodic television the streaming service has ever produced. The show begins with Osha gathering her things and leaving the Jedi Academy. She thanks Jecki Lon for clearing her name and, by happenstance, finds out that her twin sister Mae is still alive.
Osha leaves, but then we see Mae has landed on the forest’s outer rim, near the Jedi village of Khofar. Mae and Qimi leave their ship, and he offers her an ominous reminder: Mae must still kill the Wookie even though her sister is alive because of the deal she made. Who did Mae make the deal with? It’s an intriguing question with an explosive reveal at the end of this episode.

Spoiler Alert!Spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon and The Acolyte
The second season of House of the Dragon premieres this Monday and received raved reviews from critics and audiences alike. The follow-up to the Golden Globe-winning first season kicked things off in true Game of Thrones fashion with a brutal death that shocked audiences. The show currently sits at a critics score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
While the audience score for the second season stands at 87%, many fans were quick to note that it ranked higher than the Star Wars show The Acolyte, whose audience score stands at 14%. The Acolyte’s scathing reviews were accused of being part of a review-bomb campaign due to the leads being female. However, House of the Dragon’s high score negates that point.

The Acolyte star Dafne Keen first came into the limelight with her groundbreaking performance in James Mangold’s Logan, starring with Hugh Jackman. The character that Keen played in the film, Laura Keeney, was emotional and volatile, something that came through in her portrayal of the character. However, thanks to all the extra makeup, the work that Keen put in did not come through to show creator Leslye Headland.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Dafne Keen revealed the revelation that she had after she was fitted with the makeup, which was extensive, thanks to her character’s human-Theelin heritage, as she realized that her eyebrows were not visible to the audience. This made it very difficult to discern what her expressions were like.

Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and since the Star Wars Universe as a whole has consistently gone on to disappoint fans. While there have been some brilliant entries, the majority of them have been a massive disappointment, given how all of them have treated George Lucas’ legacy. But the cherry on top has been The Acolyte, Disney’s latest series in the franchise, which is being deemed by many as the worst thing that ever happened to the Star Wars universe.

The recent Star Wars television series The Acolyte has set a massive record for the franchise, but not in a way the showrunners may have hoped for. After airing less than half of the season’s episodes, the show has set the record for the worst-rated Star Wars television series of all time (on Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score).
Previously, the show set a precedent when it passed the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special last week. The Holiday Special, once considered one of the worst pieces of Star Wars media of all time, had a 20% audience score. However, the previous record holder for the worst-rated piece of Star Wars media was the Ewoks cartoon, which had a 17% score. Since then, the Holiday Special and the Ewoks cartoon have increased to 21% and 22%, respectively.
The Acolyte has now taken its place and currently sits at a 14% audience score.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been bombarded by headlines about how critics are praising this about ‘The Acolyte’ or praising that about ‘The Acolyte’. The word “praise” was the most used word associated with the show, so when the audience score plummeted on Rotten Tomatoes and other aggregator sites, both the studio and critics had an explanation ready – it must be the hate surrounding the show.
Now media outlets are collecting their own opinions on what could cause ‘The Acolyte’ to lose ratings, and it’s likely that it’s not hate – the show is just bad.
Recently, ComicBookMovie.com published an opinion piece titled “The Acolyte Review Bombing – A Counter Argument From A Traditionalist.” The author discusses criticism and controversy surrounding the series ‘The Acolyte’, particularly addressing accusations of review bombing due to its diverse, primarily female-led cast.

In the vast legacy of the Star Wars franchise, the lightsaber stands as an iconic weapon. Famous across the world among fans of the space opera franchise, the lightsaber represents power, grace, tradition, and more. While fans were certainly amazed when George Lucas first introduced them, their affection for the weapon has fallen short ever since Disney took over as the steward.

Rosario Dawson Reveals How Instrumental Hayden Christensen Was in Her Securing Ahsoka Role - Main Image
What makes any on-screen relationships work between actors is far beyond chemistry — history goes a long way as well. Rosario Dawson recently shared how her history with Hayden Christensen prior to joining Star Wars took her on the long-running mile in the acclaimed franchise.

The Ahsoka Tano star and the Anakin Skywalker actor have met long before the day they became part of the Lucasfilm franchise.

Time and time again, there is one very brutal lesson that many learn in Hollywood. If a project flops, never blame the audience. While there have been some cases where biases, misunderstandings, and expectations have led to the initial failure of a series, that is something that happens over time.
Many actors take another route, and if a series or film fails, they talk about who is to blame in the interviews that are supposed to be promoting it. Unfortunately, Kathleen Kennedy went down such a path recently, which may have resulted in an even bigger rift between her and Star Wars fans.

With the release of The Acolyte, the world is stunned by the drastic difference in the critics’ ratings and audience scores of the series. Rather than understanding where they went wrong, Kennedy said some very controversial things that are now coming back to haunt her.

When Star Wars began with A New Hope, it was initially a science fiction film that trod on a slew of fantasy tropes to create one of the biggest IPs in the history of the world. As it grew, the lore of the IP was deepened as creators began to build around the Original Trilogy.

As we write this, The Acolyte is "Certified Fresh" at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, that percentage is based on verdicts from critics, not fans. The two numbers frequently differ, but 16% is a surprisingly low score for a series which seems to have been generally well-received.

Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte is the newest addition to the Star Wars franchise, prior to the series’ release it had created a massive buzz among the fans because of the trailer and the positive early reviews from the critics of the show. The show looked promising because some audiences loved the prequel series for its magnetic and compelling storyline, with a star-studded cast.

However, it looks like the show has fallen victim to the review bombing campaign, as the show saw a surge in 1-star reviews. Fans are blinded by rage for the show because projects with similar names are caught in the misfire, lowering their scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The ardent fans of the sci-fi franchise have had enough as they point out how review bombing has made a joke out of a film’s score.
