The story is about Sri, a girl who earns a living for her father's treatment. He tried to apply to be a helper at Mbah Karsa's place, who was known to the local people as a successful person who had many businesses so he always needed lots of extra hands. In fact, Mbah Karsa needs 'stock' of women with a special set of abilities to carry out the ritual to save his granddaughter who has been attacked by black magic. Sri was accepted because this girl had something that she didn't know the use of. Sri was born on Friday Kliwon, and that was a key condition for freeing Mbah Karsa's grandson. So, Sri and two other women were placed in a hut in the middle of the forest. They have to bathe the possessed Dela every evening. This work is clearly dangerous, because the devil who has been living for almost a thousand days always tries to escape and attack the bathers. There was a problem with this film regarding its language. A mixture of Javanese and Indonesian. For me, I don't really understand the language when watching. Maybe because I'm used to watching foreign films, the language of which I don't know. So for me , what is 'heard' is just the subtitles and emotions that are being told. But indeed, if you want to use a certain language, the film must commit and really make that language its identity. Not as a gimmick. In Sewu Dino, Java is still like a gimmick, not really an identity or character. But it doesn't bother me. In my opinion, what is not really necessary is that there is a 'twist' in the middle. The story feels more 'natural' and fun when the three characters in the cottage feel like they are being played by the devil in Dela's body. It would have been more interesting to see how the devil made them attack each other on their last day of duty, for example, rather than having someone deliberately sabotage the plot and the devil let it happen. I'm just happy with the closed horror situation where they have to go in there every day to bathe possessed people. In fact, I don't want it to be just three days, but a full thousand days at a time. Repetitive, repetitive!
However, the lore about there being two camps outside of them all ends up overshadowing the story that Kimo has tried to make simple. In the final moments when Sri started to strengthen as a character, Sewu Dino started to get mixed up. There will be characters who suddenly appear. There will be more mysteries to solve. This makes the film not have a satisfying ending, even though our main character's journey ends brilliantly. Sewu Dino still feels like something unfinished, and this isn't really the right way to send the audience home. Not enough to make you curious, but just not satisfied.
