The Rocketeer can be seen as Joe Johnston’s precursor to his introductory entry into the MCU with Captain America: The First Avenger. Both are World War II superheroes and sport a pretty seamless merging of modern blockbuster filmmaking with the classic tone associated with its story. The Rocketeer never quite reached Batman levels of popularity, but the Disney film has been looked back at with fond eyes over the years and amassed a cult following. Years ago, it was reported that Lawmen: Bass Reeves star David Oyelowo was set to star and produce a sequel to The Rocketeer involving a retired Tuskegee airman, which was to be titled The Return of the Rocketeer.
There hasn’t been much in the way of news since the initial announcement, but David Oyelowo gives an update on the project, by way of The Wrap. Oyelowo explained, “We have forward momentum. I know...

Apple has landed a multi-year, first look deal with David and Jessica Oyelowo’s Yoruba Saxon banner.
As part of the deal, Yoruba Saxon will exclusively develop and produce both features and series for Apple TV+ on a first-look basis.
Previous and upcoming film and television projects from the studio, which is headed by the Emmy-nominated actor, producer, and director alongside his wife, who also serves as an actress, writer and producer, include: “Nightingale,” “Captive,” “A United Kingdom,” “Come Away,” “Five Nights in Maine,” “The Water Man,” “Ferguson Rises,” “Solitary,” “The Return of The Rocketeer,” “Onyeka and The Academy of the Sun,” “The After,” “Biafra,” and Apple’s upcoming “Government Cheese.”
Most recently, the studio developed Paramount’s “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” Starring and executive produced by the “Silo” alum, the new series scored more than strong opening numbers, setting a record as the most-watched global series premiere of the year for Paramount+.

David and Jessica Oyelowo have signed a TV overall deal with ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment under their Yoruba Saxon production banner, Variety has learned.
Under the deal, David is attached to star in and executive produce a series about legendary Old West lawman Bass Reeves. Reeves was known as the greatest frontier hero in American history and is also believed to be the inspiration for The Lone Ranger. Reeves worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.
“The stories Jess and I want to tell are boundary-busting and full of folks the likes of whom we have seldom seen on screen,” Oyelowo said. “The extraordinary story of Bass Reeves exemplifies just that. To collaborate with world-class talent like Taylor Sheridan to tell those stories to the widest audience possible, is our dream, and...

The creator of ABC's Black-ish, Kenya Barris, is set to develop a remake of Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson's 1992 sports comedy White Men Can't Jump. Barris is teaming up with Mortal Media and Blake Griffin of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers and Ryan Kalil of the NFL's Carolina Panthers to develop the project for 20th Century Fox. Mortal Media is also developing The Rocketeers for Disney, which centers around a black female Rocketeer lead.
Barris is set to write, direct, and produce the remake, which I think is completely unnecessary. The original film is great, and unless this remake could be a better movie, I don't see what the point is. Who knows, maybe Barris can make a better movie, but remakes are hardly ever better than the original film. It also doesn't seem like a film that is screaming to be remade.

It was only a pitch, but this would have been a very different kind of Rocketeer reboot.
There's so many things that could have been. We could have, for instance, had a Rocketeer 2, if only the first film had performed at the box office the way it was expected to. The Rocketeer is a wonderful little gem of an adventure movie, that, while flawed, certainly could have sustained another movie or two if the timing had been right. It wasn't of course, and its big screen prospects have been dead ever since.

Marc Forster, the director behind films such as Finding Neverland, Quantum of Solace, and World War Z, is set to direct Disney's live action Winnie the Pooh-inspired film, Christopher Robin. The story centers around an adult version of Christopher, the human boy from the classic A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh series.
As you know, those books and the animated series tell the stories of Christopher's adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood with his animal friends that include Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Roo, Eeyoer, Rabbit, and Kanga. Well, THR offers up a plot summary of the film, and it sure does sound a lot like Steven Spielberg's Hook. Check it out:
Robin has grown out of the joyful imagination he had as a young boy and is now a businessman who prioritizes work over his wife and daughter. With his home life on the brink, the last thing...
