Rookie Feds Crossover
kxwrd13 January 2023
I will try to keep this short.. the Rookie Feds crossovers need to stop. It was a nice idea, but it is not working with who the lead is in that series. Leave the original Rookie alone, as is, and cancel Rookie Feds and keep the FBI in the far distance. We watched the Feds episode to make sure we didn't miss any of the storyline for the original show, but ultimately we could have skipped that episode completely. Some may consider that a 'spoiler', but I would rather like to consider that as a helpful suggestion to anyone who isn't that interested in Feds already and was on the edge about watching their episode or sticking just to the original.

Could have been a great episode, but ...
VetteRanger7 January 2023
Outside of the "woke" line some complain about, the writers used a common plotting cliches from recent times to rachet up the tension.

After an initial bank robbery, the episode is one long chase sequence with a bit of cat and mouse thrown in. The cops are always just short of catching the suspects, despite many units on the scene and not being all that far behind them.

The crossover with Feds is a disappointment. While "Simone" may have fans, she does nothing but irritate me with her over the top style.

We decided to watch the cross-over to find out what happened with "the list" stolen during the bank robbery, but I won't be able to tolerate too many of these. They're trying to prop up the new franchise with the existing franchise, but it just makes me less interested in the existing franchise.

It's the Rookie so yay... But...
Velrik5 January 2023
I do love the Rookie, Nolan is been a great comedic act from the get go and the story has always been fun. You can watch the rookie and just turn your brain off to a Nathan Fillion show that does the procedural thing a bit different.

After a couple weeks of being on break, the rookie has returned to tell us what happens when Chen and Tim finally do their date. As well as how Nolan's rookie is getting along with Tim's gopher. We even get some new. Even gives us some fun insight into Lopez and Westley.

Then they decided to tank the entire quality of what could have been a solid "cop caught in a bank robbery" by interjecting Simone Clark from the rookie: feds into the whole equation. They are doing their utmost to make that show "work" and it just doesn't. As the other review points out, having the conclusion of this week's episode take place on the feds gives me the blessing of not actually caring if I missed out on it.

I can only hope Feds gets cancelled so I don't have to watch the train wreck of terrible characters on that show interfere with the guilty pleasure of the Rookie.

Great episode destroyed by TERRIBLE actress
grlym-4684913 January 2023
I instantly felt a pit in my stomach the second the "on last episode" part played and showed the school counselor turned FBI lady. I thought we were finally done with her once they gave her a show

Apparently the show needs to be proped up...so constant annoyance if her showing up in "the rookie" may be a plague we all have to endure.

I hate to be harsh, but I love this show and I very episode she has been in has brought it down from a 9 to a 2. Her character adds zero to any aspect of the show. You can literally skip her scenes and miss nothing in the plot. And her caring is horrific. She is so annoying to listen to. The very makeup of her character trivializes every aspect of these career fields. Nolan took his past and merged it into what he learned in the job. Which is believable. However this lady was a school counselor who trumps FBI and cop training and she just does it all on her own. And the dialogue from her and around her feels contrived.

I guess if her show is struggling and that is why they trying to get more pull. Y throwing her in the main show....then maybe when FBI rookie doesn't get a season 2, hopefully we will never see her in the main show again

I don't like complaining about a show I have loved since episode 1. But this character destroys the wonderful flow the show has had. I really like every actor they have had up till this FBI rookie lady.

Good news, bad news...
bcowan-640975 January 2023
First, the bad news. It looks like one of my favorite shows is running off the rails. This episode was all kinds of ridiculous, and basically a disaster. The cops hardly ever seemed to make a good decision, and often made ones that were down right stupid, or just bizarre. The bad guys could fire several hundred rounds from machine pistols without ever having to swap out a (probably 32-round) magazine. The writers have lost their grip on reality, and the show was a ridiculous sham.

The good news? I had zero interest in where the story was going, so felt no compulsion to watch part two of the crossover event continued on "The Rookie: Feds". That show has to be the worst thing I've seen in a decade, so I was really dreading having to subject myself to that much pain to see the conclusion. What a relief!

I hope they can get "The Rookie" back on track. I really like the characters. The cast does a great job. Unfortunately, the writers are killing it with scripts that are laughably bad. This isn't a cop show any more. It's becoming a soap opera for idiots.

Back to nonsense messaging and bad writing
jon-152295 January 2023
This whole episode hinges on the line "Leave it up to a good guy with a gun to mess things up." In todays society, where cops leave children alone and helpless in active shooter situations, and where there are many stories of lives being saved by responsible gun owners, this episode's messaging is not only incorrect, but its harmful disinformation. Besides that, the writing in general is poor. The acting is stiff. The wokeness is overtaking the content again. I had stopped watching the show in season 4. Then I heard this season had gotten better, which it had. Too bad they just can't allow themselves to focus on excellent writing and storytelling.

"Leave it to a good guy with a gun"
mikemcbride9701610 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hollywood can continue to try to paint gun owners as idiots all it likes, but the fact is the majority of gun owners are responsible, law abiding citizens who respect law enforcement and the roles that they serve in our communities. The scenario they created in this episode was a typical caricaturization meant to make conservatives/gun owners look bad. Harper even went so far as to say "leave it to a good guy with a gun to mess things up".

They're ruining Nyla's character for a cheap talking point.

Besides that, haven't the writers of the Rookie figured out that the people watching cop shows are a lot of people that own guns? Keep writing this type of nonsense and they'll end up alienating a large part of their viewership.

Focus more on story telling and less on preaching at your viewers.

I generally love The Rookie but
krissa7523 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was just a terrible episode. Every single bad cliché was interjected in the bank robbery: a cop inside doesn't call it in before it happened in order to explain something to her boyfriend, for some reason the bank manager doesn't press the silent alarm the first time, a trigger happy idiot causing mayhem, bad guys have unlimited ammo, people waking up from surgery are fully aware in seconds and having barely any issue with using the arm she just has been shot in, a car confrontation where the armoured police car with a bull bar doesn't take out the suspect car for some reason, convenient hostages just turning up, it just kept coming all for it to end in a "to be continued". I hope this is the last of these crossover episodes.

Predictably awful
altereggo1234 January 2023
This show is no longer disappointing because it flatlined a while ago. This episode has the usual anti-whiteness, this time with a gratuitous gibe at the 2nd Amendment. A gun owner very clumsily and stupidly tries to stop a bank robbery in progress, to the dismay of the humorless black female detective on the scene. Yes, that's the big problem with LA right now, too many gun-owners trying to stop robberies in progress. Thankfully, she was there to save the day.. The show also continues to celebrate people who take horoscopes seriously and adults who play a lot of Dungeons & Dragons. A show clearly written by and for 12 year olds.

Could have rated higher but...
InForAPenny12 January 2023
This has overall been a better season of The Rookie. The bank robbery storyline was ok & seemed promising, although I agree with other reviewers that the commentary on gun owners was a bit much. I enjoyed the little personal tidbits they like to toss at us every week.

What ruined it for me was the arrival of Simone. Thankfully we didn't have to deal with too much of her but I hope they don't make these crossover episodes a regular thing. Her character is too exaggerated & unbelievable, not to mention irritating.

I have no desire to watch the conclusion of this one so I hope I'm not missing anything important.

What idiot acid trip were the writers on this ep?
TK3230 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First, wth with the flaky outfit scene - is anyone supposed to believe that Tim is all "omg, whatever will I wear!" And come on, please, NO ONE wants to see Chen and Tim together. No one. Second, after reading how stupid the officers were all through the episode I would have thought it exaggerated, until I watched it myself. Yes, that stupid "good guy with a gun" scene was wet newbie liberal Hollywood writing. Remember when you used to have to have talent to write on a tv show? Then they shoddily chase the suspects, and seriously, you shot the Goldfish????? That's some cold stuff from some softy lefty writers. And here's a tip - when a car is teetering on a ledge, if you swing the car doors FORWARD, that will MOVE the center of gravity and that car's immediately going over. Conversely, if two grown men sitting in the front of a car teetering on a ledge manage to exit the car, it is NOT then going to go over. Less weight now. It's science, people. Last, do I even need to bring up that totally annoying FBI rookie? Good heavens, that character and actress if she's anything like her character is the most annoying person on the planet. Please never let us see her again. Now please please please let Chen and Tim get in an argument over clothes or something and let them break up. Please.

Not Bad, but Not Great Either...
SourCandyOrNoCandy25 January 2023
This wasn't a bad episode but it definitely wasn't best either. If I thought that the double-date with Ashley and Chris was awkward, that was nothing compared to the beginning of Lucy and Tim's first date.

I don't love the direction the Chenford relationship is going in. I didn't expect them to get together in the way they did (him asking her out like a normal person lol); I thought it'd be more dramatic. The way it's progressing is really sweet, but just not the way I expected.

Best part of the episode?

  • The contrast between Bradford's method and Nolan's of asking Juarez and Thorsen if they were dating. Thorsen's reaction and his spiel about the inappropriateness of the relationship if he was her superior office. That was hilarious.

Worst part of the episode?

  • The bank robbery case wasn't very creative nor interesting. It was a nice touch that they couldn't identify all of the robbery suspects, but the way it was executed wasn't riveting.

Am I reading too much into this?
spilleritz1 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've enjoyed this series since the beginning, but this season had me notice a few similarities between Castle - seriously - a bank robbery? At the same bank set (at least change the blinds).

Previous episode was an abandoned baby (except no one took her home), then St. Gray's daughter gets kidnapped instead of Alexis.

I've seen some of the same actors which is fine - but then they get Annie Wersching (may her soul RIP) to play another serial killer role as she so wonderfully did in Castle.

I suspect that this is because I really enjoyed Castle, but I'm particularly annoyed because Nathan Fillion is awesome and plays this part so we'll - but I think the creator, Alexi Hawley (who in my opinion wrecked the final season of Castle) is running out of ideas.

I'm not even sure I want to continue watching Back to the drawing board people - we've seen it all before!
