I still don't know the answer to how I should live, but I'm enough now. Let's live.
hanalisss30 December 2022
It tells a very precious story about human emotions, friendship, loyalty, love and how important it is to create a family with people that you care about and that cares for you. Not always blood is what's important, family is chosen.

You will be left with a valuable lesson about how not everyone in this life is destined to follow what society has prepared for us.

We live in an extremely shallow and materialistic society where the aim of most people is to get as much money and highest status possible, sacrificing very important things like time, self care and sometimes even family and loved ones.

This drama will show you how we can live with only the bare minimum necessities and be immensely happier that way.

Some say that romance is a bit lacking and slow burn but I don't agree, from the very beginning there's an amazing chemistry and attraction between the two leads and you will find yourself smiling and watching them awkwardly flirt with each other, such innocent and genuine love story.

The series has also a very well paced suspense plot that will keep you super hooked and will shock you at end. Nothing is predictable at all.

This drama was a very pleasant surprise, it's very well written and its a wholesome and all rounded watch.

It is enough
alaningle728 December 2022
An exploited Seoul office worker played by Seolhyun faces a crisis when her boyfriend breaks up with her and her mother dies in a tragic accident. She decides to give up Seoul life and travel, on her travels she comes to a small coastal village with an underused library where she decides to stay and do nothing for a year. The librarian is played by Im Si-wan who is a maths genius but hides away from the world due to a tragic family incident. Both the main leads are shy introverted characters so the romance side is very slow burning but amusing to watch. There are great characters particularly Bom, who is played by Shin Eun soo and some interesting side stories which look at the things in life which money cannot buy. It is based on a webtoon and is beautiful story which is gently told.

A genuine and comfort drama!
tanushree-raha101917 February 2023
There is nothing extraordinary in this drama yet it will give you content, it will heal you and it will comfort you.

It's not only about making time for yourself, it's also about coming out of a trauma. The changes are gradual and slow. But trust the healing process because it's very satisfying.

Plot: A woman(FL) decided to make time for what is important for her own mental health and happiness. There she meets different kinds of people who teach her many things about life.

The story also has a little bit of suspense/ thriller plot but it's just a space filling kind of thing which in my opinion is not even needed.

Yim Si Wan: His calm voice is itself a therapy. Even though he had a traumatic childhood, he is still a sweet, loving and caring gentleman. He is shy and introverted but happy in his own world.

Kim Seol Hyun: The FL did a good job transitioning from being tired and depressed to someone who embraces life living slowly and happily.

Summer Strike also taught me that being soft and polite is not a bad thing. You don't have to be an ambitious person. You should just accept yourself as you are and what you need. Just know your needs.

This is a fresh take on living your own life and finding genuine happiness.

I really hope more people discover this drama, it's just too good to ignore.

I just wish it were longer :(
selenagw-6472525 March 2023
This show is so adorable and heartwarming. It starts off with a somewhat cliche plot of a girl from a big city moving into a small town, but it does so very beautifully and detailed so that it didn't feel like anything else I've seen with that plot.

The romance isn't the only important relationship. The main character forms many wholesome relationships with many of the people in the town.

The characters are so authentic and I love how each one develops. Some are more evolutionary characters while others are dynamic or we just come to learn a different side of them.

This is my new comfort k-drama. It's so sweet and I learned so many life lessons. I want to see more of the characters and I honestly think that there was plenty of substance to carry on the show a bit longer. I'm a sucker for short shows, so I usually never say that, but I wish we got a little bit more.

Sweet but slow Romance
PalmBeachG28 December 2022
Only 12 episodes, a nice, mostly sweet K-Drama with some murder solving drama mixed in. Thought the male lead Siwan was the main attraction to the show who was the sweetest character that you can't help but like in the series. The series is great at forming friendships but the romance is actually a little lacking - not even one kiss that I saw between any of the characters thus rated only 8 stars. Quite honestly the dog made one of the best additions to the story as well as he was so lovable and made the story even sweeter. Thought it was strange that the FL would get involved with making friends with young high school kids in the first place and their side story was a little distracting.

Touching
Hwangkidong5 January 2023
I really enjoyed this drama. Who has never dreamed of leaving the soulless life in a big city behind and escape to the countryside and do nothing? I love seeing how the friendship develop between the female lead and people in her new town but in my opinion don't think the huge shock late in the show was necessary for the storyline. The protagonists already have a sufficiently tough life as it is and I personally don't think we needed a tragedy of such magnitude for the show to demonstrate how they survive adversity and overcome yet another hurdle. Plus it takes away time and focus from the romance, which I like even though it was very timid and of a very slow pace. The ending is fortunately not overly dramatic but believable and uplifting. In retrospect, the story only lasted the short time of a summer in our characters' lives but we are happy they found each other and came out strong, ready for the future, together.

Happiness lies in simple things
dseemalhar28 February 2023
Based on webtoon called 'I don't feel like doing anything', is a slice-of-life, healing drama.

It tells a very precious story about human emotions, friendship, loyalty, love and how important it is to create a family with people that you care about and that cares for you.

It also gives valuable life lessons & uplift your mood.

This drama's leads are unlike other leads, they are shy, introverts. Their romance is slow burn unlike other kdrama couples, they don't do lovey-dovey things, just enjoy each other's company.

Unlike other kdrama heroines, here female lead decided to live minimalist life, with minimal things moved to coastal town & decided to do nothing for a year, to heal her soul. I envy her life.

The people who appears annoying in the beginning becomes likeable as drama progress.

2nd teen couple, Jae-hun & Bom add more colors to story. I liked how their character developed, they are super cute together. I also like Sung-min's character. Granny & dog are another cute things in the drama.

To add some drama, there is a murder mystery also.

The thought of staying in country side, doing simple things and staying happy is though provoking.

Happiness lies in simple things.

Good Enough
PennyReviews30 January 2023
Korean Drama" Summer Strike " is a feel good drama with a dark edge.

The story is soothing and very slice of life at first, having the cottage vibes to is, as the main lead moves to a coastal village to heal and relax.

The drama then takes a more dramatic turn, as the dark details that kept showing up between the summer mood and the friendship sequences got more intense and a solid mystery case introduce itself.

The villages, moreover, were all interesting characters, and the character development was smooth.

Unfortunately, there were moments when the drama got predictable and boring. The mystery case could have been handled in a better way as well.

The performances, finally, were all decent and enjoyable by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

Adorable series
anubhutiajit12 March 2023
Life is simple, we humans make it complicated. We are all running in rat race and at one point we all chase peace and calmness. Everything else seems irrelevant....this is exactly what SUMMER STRIKE is all about.

I found the series, characters extremely calm, a simple story which is so relatable and those cute kids, a pet dog makes it more adorable. The main Lead was a protagonist in Misaeng, another not to miss series. I was looking for his other dramas and then finally got to watch this one.

Definitely a worthy watching....12 episodes series available in Netflix. No reason to miss on this one.

Okay But Lacking.
phone-man-126-94028328 December 2022
This was an okay show to watch, just not all that good. The main cast. Seol Hyun and Im Si-Wan, had no energy and no chemistry between them. Their romance was way too subdued, they seemed to have no energy. Was this the fault of the cast or the director and writer? The supporting cast had better romances. This show should not be listed as a romance. The mystery story in the show was okay.

Kim Hye-Jung's character was a very annoying granny.

The ending was okay but was very open ended when it came to the romances. A more definitive ending was needed. This type of open ending is a weakness typical of many Kdramas.

Feel good.
elsamirre2 March 2023
It's been a while since I liked a drama enough to take time to review.

I usually don't like "feel good-piece of life" shows. Il always feels like I was scammed somehow. I think the reason why I watched, in all honesty, is the male lead. OMG I find him cute. He's as cute as a puppy hugging a kitten. His hair style helps a lot. Those fair long curls made him look like a painting of the Madonna. His being so quiet and new to everything, made me want to protect and console him. I just loved his looks and his... moseube (don't know how to say that in English, demeanor?) Anyway. Without him, I wouldn't have watched.

Still. I'm very grateful for the story itself. At some point, it really felt like I was on a vacation on the countryside. I felt relaxed and happy for a few very rare and very precious minutes. I laughed my head off at the joke about the chicken (Dae-Bom sayin' "Na Gwenchana", I'm still laughingXD)

I can't say I cried, although it seemed like I should have. I didn't have enough empathy for the characters. There were no butterflies either, no chemistry between the leads. Having said that I liked their love, so innocent, so simple, so realistic without any of those silly reasons why they can't be together. Admitedly, I'm sick of "Your father's friend was mean to my cousin, twenty years ago, so you and I can never be a couple" stuff like that. There were hardships, but they never tried to run away, as if they knew they just couldn't be without each other.

Finally, I want to stress that this was a nice lesson, that I already knew, but still. One is never a pushover or a loser. One has to find their way and place in this world. Ending up in a remote place earning just enough to live by is not wasting one's life or time. Quite the contrary. Life is short enough to just be who you are and do what you want, as long as you don't hurt anybody. Yes, there is a difference between succeeding IN life, and succeding ONE's life. Imho.

Warning: Spoilers
I almost didn't watch it because of how sad it started but after reading some reviews about how heart warming etc it is I thought I'd give it a go and just skip the tragic parts. It gave me some hope in the middle, it was genuinely fun for a bit, but then the tragedies started piling up and then we even get a couple of horror murder mystery cases. Like, why!? What did they ever add to anything except show that small towns outside Seoul are messed up!? I had to skip many parts.

The main part I liked was that it wasn't shot in Seoul and we get to see the countryside, but apparently it turns out that was also it's detriment.

Other than that I really liked the female lead, I didn't know her prior to this. The male lead I've seen before I dramas. Also the secondare male actors were all good.

But this show feels like it doesn't know what it wants to be. And please, enough with the horrific tragedies coming one after the other!!

wanted to like it, but just couldn't
princessandthepeabody23 February 2023
This is another of the spewed out inane K-dramas Netflix has put out there. Lately, they are seriously lacking in good content. The characters are mean spirited, abusive, dim-witted, and boring . Seriously, do South Koreans really drink so much that they black out and can't remember anything? Seems to be the norm for these shows and I am seeing more of this trend in K-dramas. This story itself is very slow. I wanted to try to feel empathy for the main character, but just couldn't muster it. She is supposed to be educated, but continually does stupid, senseless acts. The setting was very pretty though, one of the reasons I like K-dramas. This series lacked having a good story line. There are many terrific shows out there, sadly this is not one. It is tortuously slow and the characters are not likable. Do yourself a favor and pass.

Light, fun, inspiring - but also really emotional
rjennifer13 April 2023
This was the first Korean series I've ever watched (I watched it with English subs). I got into it because Netflix posted a collage of a scene in the first ep when Yeo Reum is tired of her pointless life that is all about work. It really caught my attention. After the first episode, this series was totally not what I anticipated. It was much better. It felt like a summer breeze - the scenery, the music, the characters, the jokes, just Angok itself and the (seemingly) simple, quiet lives of people living there. I wouldn't say the series was perfect, actually I think the crime parts were not very well executed, but I do understand that the plot needed something like that at that point. However, all in all this was a lovely experience. 12 episodes was just enough, but I'm sad it's over.

Catnip for Introverts - slow healing drama
Equuleus7817 April 2023
Summer Strike depicts the slow emotional evolution of 2 characters who are on the quiet side.

FL leaves Seoul in frustration, disgusted by scheming, evil co-workers, the monotony of her life and her inability to get ahead in any meaningful way. For young people watching this healing drama I think this will strike a chord and trigger the question "Is it worth it? Is all this study and thankless work and pressure really worth it? When do I get to live well?" I think it's a question worth asking, especially in Korea with its high female suicide rate and low birth rate.

She decides to relocate to a seaside town and re-calibrate, reboot and take a moment. And so we are introduced to the townsfolk who are kind and cruel in equal measure, some under protected and maliciously judged with few opportunities to move ahead unless they leave for Seoul.

The slow burn romance that takes place with the ML is satisfying enough but the series really shines when it depicts our strong human need for connection, whether from family or people who become family.

The murder mystery element really only comes to the fore at the end so if you are looking for a strong thriller drama this is not the show for you. Instead, its about people with their quiet desires and unmet expectations and how they deal with it.

The supporting cast is very strong and the message of sufficiency and contentment is wholesome.

Sweet, uncomplicated (and short) healing drama that showcases our human need for connection and community.

Very relatable as a person who have a hard time speaking up
lichtvitya13 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I personally love how the timid main character, played beautifully by Seolhyun, slowly gets better as the series progressed. Though, in other characters, this progress could regress (but then get better again).

I personally love the romance between the leads, and thought it was good not adding super lovey dovey scenes immediately since both leads are sort of introverted and takes a while to warm up to others. I think it shows that expressing love doesn't limited to doing mere skinship, but also just by being together and having many many dialogues. I find that really sweet, though maybe to others it might be too bland.

For the mystery/thriller part of the drama, it seemed so easily done in a rush, and the writers didn't gave much clues, not until the last few episodes of the drama, which is too bad. It was potentially interesting, especially when we as the audience are seeing this from the female lead's perspective as a newcomer in the village. If framed better, the thriller part might be more engaging.

Another disappointing/meh kind of part of the story was just Bom's childhood friend arc. It does add a bit backstory to Bom's bullying issues, but in the end, the childhood friend was just there to arouse more of the financial status and environment differences between Bom and Jaehoon. I cringe and skipped most part of it, especially when fight scenes come up.

But I'll give an 8 because the series was overall an iyashii (comforting) series to me, aside for the thriller scenes of course. And while of course not all parts all not real-life-like, there are some that just slapped you so much since it reflects today's reality.

Also Geunho's Mom is a scene stealer for me. She's annoying at first but later on I feel sad for her because she really insists that her son is a good kid. Kudos to the actress.

I loved it even though it wasn't what I expected
karlarh17 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched it because of a song of its soundtrack I liked. I thought it was a romance kdrama and at the first episodes I thought the story didn't have a solid argument, like it didn't follow a specific topic and even a genre. I finally loved it because it covers different topics from personal things like self esteem, dreams, etc. To how your relationships with friends and people in general evolve and how a single person can change others life. It doesn't focus only on romance but on relationships with yourself and people around you, it's so easy to love the characters and, at least for me, only for the first episodes was a little bit difficult to follow the story but ended loving it.

The Despicable and Deplorable People of Angok!
spasek4 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for something along the lines of "Hometown Cha Cha Cha," you will be sadly disappointed. And if you're looking for a mystery/thriller along the lines of "Stranger" or "Flower of Evil" you will also be disappointed. "Summer Strike" is not a romantic series, despite the presumptions one might get as the series begins, and the story is far darker than one might anticipate. In many ways, the writers seem unsure of the story. In many ways, the writers seem unsure of the story they want to tell. The romantic scenes have little-to-no chemistry between the leads, and we're left with a town of despicable, moody, and angry people who aren't very appealing.

Yeo Reum Lee is a 28-year-old woman who acts like she's 18 at best. She's basically a doormat for anyone to use and abuse. She never speaks or stands up for herself and frequently makes poor choices based on the smallest influences from those around her. She's a pleaser who lacks the ability to stand on her own two feet. She's neither a mature nor a strong woman. She flees Seoul for the small seaside town of Angok, hoping to simply live an easy and frugal life. The big question is: is Yeo Reum running toward something or running away? The more we observe Yeo Reum, we can see that she doesn't change. She leaves one abusive life for another because she refuses to see that SHE is the problem. When you move from one place to another, you take your problems with you. They don't get left behind.

Kim Seol Hyun is the weakest of all the actors in this series. She just can't seem to get a handle on her character while frequently uttering her lines in a soft, breathless manner. When she's being chased by the police officer, she doesn't shout at the taxi driver to keep going, she softly says in a mousy voice, "Please don't stop. Please keep going!" Nobody in that situation would react that way! Especially a woman! Kim Seol Hyun can't even manage to put panic into her voice. She was a poor choice for the female lead of this series.

You can pretty much go down the line of characters that will leave you cringing. Arguably the worst is Ji Young Jo, who works at the library, has feelings for her co-worker and childhood friend, Da Beom An, and treats him like an overbearing mother hen. There is scarcely anything appealing about this woman who snaps and barks at everyone around her. She also does her absolute best to control and manipulate Da Beom into living the life that SHE thinks is best, without taking any consideration for his feelings. I'm not sure I've seen many characters in 45+ years of television who are as deplorable as well as lacking in any positive qualities. I'm not sure how anyone would ever find this woman as being attractive or appealing. She's as horrid as a snake with fangs at both ends!

Don't get me wrong, I liked Granny for her sweetness, even though she's a very weak-willed woman who has zero control over her son or anyone else. She's told-even by her grandkids--what to do. She is a perfect example of how Yeo Reum will likely be when she gets to be the same age. I'm not sure what kind of a grandmother would summarily dismiss an attack on her granddaughter and ask her to lie to the police in order to avoid sending the father (her son) to jail. What kind of a family member--who has ANY love or integrity--would make such a decision? It was heinous and sadistic. You would support a man who is physically abusive as well as being a raging alcoholic who nearly kills his own daughter?!

A big issue with Yeo Reum Lee and Granny is their inability to speak up--especially when they NEED to speak up! If you're not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem. And it's people like these two who help keep the cycle of abuse going because they are too afraid to do the right thing--and do right by others--and speak up. Make no mistake, by not saying anything, they are just as responsible for the abuse as those who are doing the abusing, which is another reason why I disliked these characters so much. And people who are too afraid to properly discipline their children, are child abusers themselves.

It seems that Chang Soo's wife can only ever vent her anger on everyone around her, including the physical abuse of a little dog. This woman is hateful, and where we are supposed to be sympathetic, all we see is a vile woman who cannot see beyond her own tragedies and problems.

This is actually true for most of the series; moments when--if we felt any kind of REAL emotional connection-we should feel sympathetic toward many of these characters. Kim Bom and Da Beom are the only two characters in the series for whom I felt some sympathy.

For the most part, this series is very dry, uneven, and disjointed, and it doesn't venture deep enough for us to really gain some perspective on characters like Da Beom and Kim Bom. Frankly, the series would have been better served had these two been the focal points of the story. Yeo Reum is hardly appealing, and by the end of the series, I couldn't have cared less about her situation. She was mostly annoying, and by the end of the series, it's clear that she hasn't learned a thing or shown any kind of growth. She's very much like a woman who's never grown up.

Despite all of these problems, the show works for the most part. I'm glad it didn't go beyond 12 episodes because the series was starting to limp toward the finish line at the end. We get the wrapping up of a mystery that already had a very weak foundation and hints of possible romance between the two leads that had no warmth or chemistry to it. Even when Da Beom is hurt or in pain, Yeo Reum just stands there, offering little-no comfort.

Angok is a dark and dismal town compared to the one from "Hometown Cha Cha Cha" filled with angry, immature people who gripe and complain about everything. There's nothing so sad as one person playing the victim as a whole town doing the same. And that isn't inspiring storytelling at all. It's sad, and not in a good way.

You will love it
mayemad-2730828 December 2023
I started watching the show and I couldn't stop it was so good that I finished it in two days

this show open your eyes to reality and shows that each character had their own problems and difficulties however they somehow managed to go through.

All episodes were more than amazing except for last episode it wasn't as smooth as I imagined it will be suddenly everything changed ..(the beginning of the episode was heartbreaking and suddenly everything became ok!) this was the only thing I disliked

but overall I enjoyed watching every single episode and i will definitely be watching this over and over again it was so calm and therapeutic and kind of mindset changing.

Can we take a break from life? 9/10
hannynorbert21 October 2023
This beautiful Kdrama revolves around the topic of leaving the soulless treadmill of urban existence behind. It even calls the buddhist notion 'samsara' to mind - when a pure soul is getting out of the 'suffering-laden, continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth, without beginning or end'.

Here, we have two pure souls right away. The casting is superb, both the male & female leads authenticly portray such level of innocence that the viewer's protective instinct kicks in immediately. The supporting cast excels as well.

All in all, this is a fantastic show. Almost deserves maximum score, except for the little 'jumps' in the script. It is still a strong 9 out of 10 in my book.

This is not a sweet, romantic comedy. It's a horror story.
mauricevanhorne26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who would watch this and think it's a sweet, slow, romantic comedy is warped.

The main character is the worlds biggest pushover, who will not ever stand up for herself, ever. Even when, running from a murderer, she uses a meek little, please help me voice, and is the most pathetic annoying, female lead in any K drama I have ever seen.

The sickening final two episodes that involve horrific murders cannot be swept under the rug as they are in so many other K dramas. Yes, serial killers? Psycho killers from the past, crazy ex boyfriends, theyre in almost every romantic KDramas comedy, but this is so visceral, and the female lead is written, so pathetically that it all just ends in a sad mess.

The female lead actress is fine. It's the character she plays who is awful. She does not grow at all during the entire course of the series. She was the world's biggest loser when the show started and she's the world's biggest loser when it ends This was an amateurish manipulative script, that only left me angry at the end.

Found my another comfort drama.
montefalcojanina29 September 2023
This show spins a heartwarming yarn about feelings, friendships, loyalty, and how your chosen family can mean more than the one you're born into. It leaves a valuable lesson about resisting societal expectations in our materialistic world.

In a world where folks chase money and status like it's the Holy Grail, this drama reminds us that real joy often hides in life's simpler pleasures.

The romance, frequently labeled as a gradual unfolding, is brimming with delightful chemistry right from the beginning, providing an authentic and pure love story.

But here's the kicker-the suspense plot is like a rollercoaster. You won't see those twists coming!

All in all, this show pulls a rabbit out of the hat with its well-crafted, feel-good story that hits all the right notes.

This kdrama feels like a home!
sanskritiime27 March 2024
This kdrama is literally different from others. It's so special like it feels like a warm hug. It gives a real moral of life and it very relatable to people's daily lives and how light and happy it feels while spending your time with friends and families.

It's so comforting you know like it shows that sometimes it's good to do nothing and understand yourself rather than others but I wanted more of their relationship between dae bum and yeo reom. They looked so good together but it was good like it's different from all others it shows how introverts fell in love each other and how they get comfortable with each other. Whenever I'll feel low I'll come to this drama again💓.

Warming our hearts
truonghuyen-5633912 February 2024
Summer Strike is really my go-to drama in summer or spring from now on. It is extremely heart-warming.

There is no need for romance. Mainly friendship, neighborhood, and love of nature. (moreover the dog Gyol-ul was really cute )

Yeo-reum's life was peaceful and plein in Angok, which is sometimes boring but somehow ideal (for me). I appreciate everytime characters enjoy and feel light breeze, sunlight, sunrise or smell of the sea... It is omg so healing

There are not many dramatic parts in the plot. So go enjoy!!!

Especially, I am happy that in this drama, no one is really seemed as cold-hearted. There're still some not-nice people, but this drama did not go deeply into them

Love it, wish I could found many pieces like Summer Strike!!!

This k drama...
nillbass3 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Starts well. Sounds good. Then you see it does not work.

She is a loser in the very begining, you feel sorry for her because she tries her best. However she decides to change her lifestyle then:

Goes to learn a life lesson, THE LIFE LESSON actually, in her almost 30's. Get along with kids. Sleeps in a dirt abandonesd couch. Get along with a probably muted guy.

Then nothing develops. NO THING!!!!!

It is painful. Dont get me wrong, The main character is cute, she is a good actress, great smile, great expressions. However, what is that character?

The lead boy whom was called "lady" as the female lead thought it was a woman in the library, looks like, well, a LADY.

I do not know wtf happens in s. Korea, where the boys are so annoyngly feminized, delicated, does not know how to act in front of a woman. And in this kdrama it is PROBABLY the worse so far.

You, somehow likes the girl, and expect her to have a happy life, but it never happens.

So, it is a story with no purpose at all.
