As the final episode begins Susan finds herself in the company of the killer; a man called Crowley who was believed killed in the war. She manages to get away from him but it soon becomes apparent that he knows where she lives. She goes to see his former boss and learns that he previously worked in psychological warfare; designing images to disturb German soldiers
initially these were just rather saucy suggestions about what their wives were up to while they were fighting but after he survived the bombing they took a much darker tone. Knowing who they are looking for they look at where it all started; trapped in the rubble with a dead girl; a girl who will lead the four Bletchley Park girls to the killer
which will of course put them in more danger than they have been in before.
This was a good conclusion to the series; the regular cast continued to put in fine performances as did Steven Robertson who was suitably disturbing as Crowley. The final confrontation with Crowley was a touch melodramatic but that is something that goes with the genre; I can't imagine many viewers would expect a serial killer to come quietly. There was no indication as to whether there would be another series but the way it ended certainly left the option open should ITV want to commission further series and on the strength of this I'd be pleased if they do.
