Terrible People, a comedy from UK writer/performer Humphrey Ker (Holding Patterns), Todd Holland and Karey Burke’s Dark Toy Entertainment (Go On) and Betsy Thomas (My Boys), has been sold to ABC through Universal TV where Dark Toy is based. Ker will write the project, which is loosely based on his life, with Thomas supervising. Terrible People centers on Charlie Stevenson who dutifully goes to see his narcissistic, manipulative father and stepmother for a short visit, but finds himself drawn in for a permanent stay when he sees what awful children his half-brother and sister are becoming, believing that he must intervene and help raise these children to stop the cycle of rapacious awfulness. Holland and Burke will executive produce with Thomas. Ker, repped by Wme and Pbj Management in the UK, will appear in season three of Showtime’s Episodes. Thomas and Dark Toy are with Wme. CBS...

Chyler Leigh has been replaced.
The actress -- whose "Grey's Anatomy" character Lexie died after a plane accident in the Season 8 finale -- had joined an NBC comedy pilot called "Holding Patterns," which coincidentally focuses on a group of friends whose lives change after they survive a plane crash.
But "Guys With Kids" actress Erinn Hayes has now replaced Leigh as Leah, "an irresponsible and absent-minded slacker who lacks direction despite her brains and sarcastic wit," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR reports that Leigh was under the weather for the pilot's initial table read so Hayes filled in. Once the "Grey's" alum returned for rehearsals, sources told THR that she "did not have the same chemistry with the rest of the cast."
Shortly after her "Grey's" exit, Leigh released the following statement to TVLine: "Earlier this year, I made the decision that Season 8 would be my last on 'Grey's Anatomy.

Guys With Kids and Childrens Hospital co-star Erinn Hayes will play the female lead in NBC‘s comedy pilot Holding Patterns. She replaces Chyler Leigh who was originally cast in the role. Holding Patterns is an ensemble multi-camera comedy about a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash, caused by Leah (Hayes) ruining Griffin’s (Humphrey Ker) proposal dinner. For Hayes, the casting is in second position to Guys With Kids, which is at the same network and studio, NBC/Universal TV. Because of her relationship with NBC and Uni TV, Hayes was asked to step in for Leigh, who was out of town and under the weather, for the pilot’s table read. Ultimately, during rehearsals, NBC brass concluded that Leigh is not how they envisioned the Leah character. This is the second recasting on Holding Patterns, which also replaced Robert Buckley with Nelson Franklin.

666 Park Avenue alum Robert Buckley has exited NBC’s comedy pilot Holding Patterns after the table read. The project, from writer Justin Spitzer, Peter Traugott’s Tbd Prods and Universal TV, is an ensemble multi-camera comedy about a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash. Buckley was to play one of them, Chad, Griffin’s (Humphrey Ker) and Leah’s (Chyler Leigh) arrogant, misogynistic friend, now a successful chick-lit author who returns home for the wedding. I hear among the reasons for Buckley’s departure was the fact that when the cast got together for the table read, it became apparent that Buckley looks a lot like Ker, while the producers have been looking for a more dramatic differentiation between the two characters. Buckley is the latest actor to leave a pilot this season as the networks rush to cast some 100 pilots within six weeks.

Good news, "One Tree Hill" fans! Series star James Lafferty has booked his first major role since wrapping up his final season as Nathan Scott. Lafferty will star in NBC's untitled drama from executive producer Rand Ravich.
The series is about a newbie Secret Service agent, Marcus Finley (Lance Gross), whose first day on the job incites an international incident when the president's son and several classmates are kidnapped. Lafferty is set to star as the "boyishly handsome" (check) Mr. Nash, the private school teacher who was abducted with his students.
Lafferty is the third "One Tree Hill" lead to land a significant pilot role on NBC this season. Sophia Bush will star in NBC's "Hatfields & McCoys" as a young doctor caught in her family's feud, and Robert Buckley will star in the network's plane crash comedy "Holding Patterns" as an arrogant author who returns to his hometown for a wedding.

If you’ve been paging Dr. Lexie Grey then you’ve been answered with silence since Chyler Leigh departed her Grey’s Anatomy gig, taking her character, Meredith’s half-sister, along with her. We can now report, however that the actress has scored her first major TV role since leaving the ABC medical drama. Her new gig is one of the lead parts in NBC’s new comedy pilot called Holding Patterns. We’ve got the details.
Holding Patterns comes from The Office scribe Justin Spitzer, but the material sounds more dramatic than slapstick. The project is a multi-cam ensemble featuring a group of friends whose lives are forever changed when they survive a plane crash. You’ve got to wonder at the coincidence here because Dr. Lexie Grey was killed in a similar catastrophe.
Leigh will play Leah, the quintessential slacker. She forgets things and is always running late.

"The Office" writer-producer Justin Spitzer created "Holding Patterns." It will be the first comedy series role for Leigh since she starred in the short-lived "That '80s Show" in 2002.

Former Grey’s Anatomy star Chyler Leigh has been cast in the NBC comedy pilot Holding Patterns, EW has confirmed. The comedy tells the story of “a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash.” So, it’s like an alternate universe version of what happened on Grey’s.
Leigh will play Leah, who — according to The Hollywood Reporter – is an intelligent slacker who lives with her two best friends in a Minneapolis duplex.
The Office’s Justin Spitzer wrote and will executive produce the pilot.
