Funny, fast-paced, brilliant ending
billyherring-4739923 May 2024
Bermondsey Tales is quite simply brilliant. Told in an episodic manner, Michael Head brings back the tradition of London characters, telling stories. Full of mad-cap tales of individuals and their escapades, you'll laugh till your sides hurt.

The leading cast are fantastic, with Head, Dan O'Reilly and Charlie Clapham bringing energy, one-liners and jokes a-plenty. It's also great to see the number of British legends - John Hannah, Frank Harper, Vas Blackwood, Alan Ford, Linda Robson, Vicki Michelle - all playing their parts. Without forgetting the formidable Gary Webster as the 'Head of the Family' and the excellent Maisie Smith in her debut movie role.

Clever, Funny, British gangster movie
kaslewis19 June 2024
Michael Head has created a really entertaining film here and isn't that what most people want? Entertainment.

This movie is not for the snooty critics that write reviews knowing little about the working class love for a good old gangster tale that features that world but also everyday family dramas they can relate to. It's nicely divided up into chapters like a novel and features Latin, yes Latin descriptions as we go along.

There are a plethora of well known faces that keep up your interest too, from Jay's dad from the Inbetweeners to the sexy French lady from Allo Allo. Plus Alan Ford, Maisie Williams and Gary Webster. This cast of familiar faces rises the film up beyond the standard gangster tale and with a Guy Ritchie style, Michael Head keeps it all romping along including absolutely hilarious moments from Dapper Laughs and Vas Blackwood. Plus, genuinely sad moving moments. John Hannah also features in a charismatic cameo as a gnarly Scot.

It all moves along at fast pace with consistently good performances throughout. It's perfect viewing with a Chinese takeaway and a few beers on the go.

Writing, directing, acting in, funding and putting a film together is a huge operation when you're an independent film maker it takes guts, grit, determination and a never say die attitude, as someone who's been there I can only applaud Michael for what he has achieved.

Creative Imaginative Funny Gangster Comedy - Must See
tabsfamily21 May 2024
Bermondsey Tales - an immensely funny creative look at how the South London Mob operated in the yearly 70ies and 80ies. A creative tale of "true criminal tales" told with imagination, a bit of tongue in cheek and a lot of humor. A must see for any South Londoner or gangster fan, or if you just enjoy a laugh.

A fantastic cast including many well known actors, with a few new commers that should be mentioned including the Writer and Director Michael Head.

Cast includes Gary Webster, Vas Blackwood, Linda Robson and Maise Smith to name but a few.

It tells the tale of the rise and fall of the mob and the various characters and their antics.

Gritty Gangster Comedy
djbaldwin-6714520 May 2024
It is easy to see why this Gritty Gangster comedy has been nominated for best independent movie for 2024. There are some fine performances from a Quality cast.

The film pocesses a good amount of Pathos in equal measure that'll have you laughing and welling up.

The movie gives an insight into South Londons crime world which highlights the comedy elements that's so often underplayed in Gangster movies.

Star of the show is Actor Michael head who also writes and directs the film, supported by the likes of Vas Blackwood. Gary Webster, Linda Robson and Maisie Smith, I enjoyed the many tales of the various characters, Top Adult entertainment.

Unbelievably terrible like its beyond a joke
bewanki16 June 2024
This was honestly the worst film I've ever seen so ultra low budget so cringe and looks like it was filmed for a GCSE media studies project! I think 1/10 is far too generous the only thing I could compare it to is that film the room...Parts were so bad I did find it funny the jokes were terrible and made my skin crawl I was laughing at it not with it its copied things directly from actual british gangster movies but done it terribly tbh I feel really bad for some of the good all be it well past their prime actors. The good reviews are clearly done by people involved in the film or their immediate family's no sane person without biases would rate this long stupid video higher than a 2/10 it's not even a film I'm not even going to call it that.

Brilliant film
stilwelljim15 June 2024
I spent the best part of half an hr trying to decide what to watch - then thought I'd rent a film on Amazon, and went for this. The reviews were pretty decent, so I had my expectations quite high, and it didn't disappoint.

This film is excellent - the main actor, Michael Head (I think he wrote some of it) is excellent, the cast they've put together are brilliant. Some really funny scenes and characters (especially the postman and Rabbit), and some really funny dialogue. I like the cameo from Tom Skinner too.

Would highly recommend it. I think I might rent it again in the future, as I think it's one of those films that's great, but would actually click together nicely on a second viewing.

Absolute trash....an amateur pantomime
andy-6922318 June 2024
Dont know what to say here - left in disbelief about what I have just watched. Not entirely sure what the other reviews are referring to but it cant be the film I have just seen.

Absolutely terrible, I mean really really bad. Not what I signed up for at all. Terrible acting, terrible story that makes no sense and beyond amateur in production. Dont get me started on the fight scenes - who put these together!!!! Cannot even believe this was actually signed off as a film.

Shockingly bad on a level rarely seen and a massive skidmark on the British gangster genre that will be soon forgotten I am sure.

Even better second time around, funny, intelligent, a modern classic
sdaniels-7798911 June 2024
I watched Bermondsey Tales at the cinema and really enjoyed it! I watched again last night at home and loved it even more, there was so much I missed at the first watch.

Bermondsey Tales, is honestly one of the funniest films I've seen in a long time, with great vivid characters and lots of stand out performances. The dialogue is sharp with more plot twists than a rollercoaster, however what I originally missed was how intelligent the plot was.

On second viewing I noticed how smart everything fits together, how every action has a consequence leading to the ultimate downfall of the family. Even with the prologue and epilogue the film has the feel of a Shakespearean tragedy.

As a fan of British gangster films and classical English lit and theatre, I honestly put this film in my top ten of all times. It's hilarious, sharp, gritty and very smart film, plus I love John Hannah.

Funniest film I've seen in decades
jokesonusall21 May 2024
If you love British gangster films and love comedies then this film is for you!

Bermondsey tales, is funny, laugh out loud funny. I watched it in the cinema and the room was filllwd with laughter.

The dialogue is witty and sharp feels like guy Ritchie, Tarantino and Scorsese had a cheeky love child with Will Ferrell!

It is also gritty and the plot has so many twists and turns it left me often shocked and always in suspense.

The cast is a who's who of gangster films and the likes of Frank Harper, Vas Blackwood and Alan Ford do not disappoint and are all brilliant. Then it also has some curve ball castings, John Hannah is brilliant and very out of casting type as this very funny paranoid gangster and Charlotte Kirk shines as his uncaring trophy bride.

David Schaal, Gary Webster and Charlie Clapham are add real meat to the bones and bring a gravitas and sense of grit and quality to the table.

Dan O'Rielly shows he is far more than a controversial comedian. He can really act and his club scene for me is the best thing about the film.

Maisie Smith, Alexandra Kate and Linda Robson also bring a nice female element to the film which is not often shown in this genre. Maisie being the brilliant stand out performance of the trio.

Finally writer, director and actor Michael Head is brilliant, his character is a loveable rouge and the script is as funny and genius with vivid characters that stick in your mind.

It is low budget and bit rough around the edges and you feel the money and focus was more on the cast and the acting rather than special effects or polish but personally I prefer than in a post marvel world where CGI has often replaced the need for good dialogue and actors.

So for a brand new old school gangster treat watch this film!

poor film and awful acting please do not be fooled by film critics
mrknowitallk19 June 2024
Shocked by this film, I love British gangster films but this was awful. How this film has had great reviews is a shock by me. Goodfellas meets Snatch, funniest gangster film in a decade? Not in my book.

The biggest dissapointment was seeing Dapper Laughs in another film, I am not offended by his comedy, even if I don't find it funny and see it as low bareing fruit. If his fans enjoy it good for them, however I am offended by his acting and the fact he has somehow gone from vine star to actor. His other films are low quality, low budget, so-so casts and been slated by critics. This film though seems to have a decent budget and has a great cast full of acting ledgends like Alan Ford and Frank Harper. Jay's Dad from inbetweeners, Linda Robson and even hollywood actor John Hannah are in this? How?

The constant seems to be Michael Head, who was the writer of the last heist and now directs this. It seems he is insistant on making gangster films and hiring dapper laughs. I read they have another film on the way, yet again with a strong cast.

I am lost as how this is happening and strongly reccomend everyone to not be fooled and stay away from this film and anything by Michael Head and Dapper Laughs.

Do not be fooled by the strong reviews from so called fans and film critics.
