Filler?
dominicvanloo13 October 2023
Could this be considered filler 5 episodes into the first season? Felt like nothing happened and we're back where we were last episode. Still a decent episode I'm enjoying the show so far, but it just feels a bit like nothing of much importance really happened this episode and it really slowed the pace down. Main stand outs for me this episode were Emma and Cate as these are the only characters who got much development as the rest of the cast weren't given too much to do. There were a couple reveals but was a bit too uneventful compared to the first 4 episodes in my opinion. Also didn't see any Clancy Brown in this one which is always a shame (may be wrong).

There's something just a bit off putting here..
markwha13 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So this episode had me thinking back and reflecting on the whole show in general which after 5 episodes is something a lot of viewers do in one way or another. I can't call it a bad show because it simply isn't, but none the less there's definitely something off putting about it that isn't present in the main show. I couldn't quite put my finger on it before but I think it's a combination of the young adult/teenage drama combined with the Gen Z era and the shows representation of it.

Regardless to what your opinions are in respect to Gen Z identity politics or the way they have a strong left lean, there's no denying that it's brought about a rather bad era for entertainment. Everything to do with entertainment, whether it be social media, standup comedy, writing, TV or film seems to have a taint on it nowadays and while the main show handles this quite well, this literal parody of Gen Z can't seem to quite escape the unfavourable shading that comes with the territory they're venturing into.

This episode seems to solidify these points as it's almost entirely a filler episode of teenage drama masquerading as character development and it just doesn't quite land well with the viewer, or at least that's the way it made me feel.

It's not a complete loss though, as mentioned before it's not by any stretch a bad show and still quite recommendable. For those who stuck around to watch the sneak peak at the end of the episode we finally got a glimpse of our most anticipated character, so there's undoubtedly light at the end of the tunnel. I personally cannot wait to see how Soldierboy interacts with this cast of characters. The stark differences between the time periods that the young cast and his character come from will certainly make for some outrageous possibilities and could very well work out nicely.

7/10 would still recommend.

GOOD EPISODE BUT STARTING TO FEEL AS LOST AS THE CHARACTERS
SlummyT13 October 2023
This episode started of very strangely, if your watching this with your parents good luck 😅😅

Throughout this episode we explore further into the memory wipes some explained well through interactions but others left me confused and lost as to what is happening.

The twist in this episode is a questionable one to say the least, I sometimes find it difficult to process the the real enemy when they are introduced with no Alabi. This episode and the past series I have to put Emma at the top ranking as she is the most interesting character

Although this episode was good I feel there was a lot left to be desired hopefully the next episode there is a more in-depth explanation for the reasonings of our new villian

Thank you for taking time to read my review till the next one.....

I think it was genius

Warning: Spoilers
Is that I never see the Cate thing coming, so that give a lot of extra points to the episode to me, and added to that they close it with that song "I got a spell on you", this was so cool.

Cate power for me is the most powerful than all, if she can touch proper person she can have anything she wants. By the age she already have she should know what is capable to do and not to be controlled by that.

Honestly i feel the episode too short, which means it catch me interested and not bored. The part of puppets was hilarious.

The only thing that I don't like is that I have to wait another week for the next episode.

It keeps getting better and better!!!
iammeever-3895913 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I started watching this show, I thought it would be like just any show that will be ripoff of its original show. But this.... , this is different. It stands on it own with a very little knowledge of The Boys.

It keeps getting better one episode after the other. This episode starts where it left the previous episode where everyone had forgotten what happened that night and they come to know that some of their memory pieces' were missing. They blame rufus but it actually ended up being our own cate!!!!!

Can you believe it!! That was the best moment of this episode.

Those who are new, it is a must watch show and if you are not watching it, you are missing out something good.

Get some puppets and... wow, violence...
Victor_daSilva_13 October 2023
I like Gen V, after the third episode I was really excited to continue the story (and I'm following it weekly) I liked this episode, even if the idea of making the story go in circles just to get a revelation at the end bothers me a little, but what bothered me most about this whole equation is something that bothers me a lot about managing this universe: "how to make a story adult? Let's be disruptive, take some childish things like puppets and make a brutal fight sequence"... Wow, violence... This isn't the first time this has happened in the Voughtverse, we had a similar sequence with Black Noir in S3 (referenced in this episode), and in the previous episode there was that strange sequence with the guy talking to the puppet from The Deep, like... what's the fun in all this? What's the purpose? Shock? Be disruptive? Adult? For me it doesn't work.

Remember meeee

Warning: Spoilers
I guess I can see where others are coming from. Although having seen the following episode, I'm not sure this is one I'd call filler. I suppose this and the next episode could have been condensed to a single episode, but then people would probably call it rushed. And you can't skip this one either because of the crucial reveal at the end.

And I feel like I saw the Cate thing coming. Not the circumstances though, and I thought she would end up being a total traitor and bad person. With powers like that, it's hard to write a characters that's only doing good things I guess. Seems like it's always been that way.

But I still enjoyed the episode. Is it a bit tween-y? Sure, but why not? Let the show be funny and satirical, but you've still gotta do something with your characters. If anything, all of the sleeping together, the drugs, the partying and the cheating seems sort of realistic.

It's not, like, Riverdale bad though😂or Disney Channel bad. I am still really curious to see what happens next. I've liked most of the acting the mystery of getting interesting!

One question though... Why didn't Sam mention way earlier that he suspected Cate erased their minds? He had a moment to in the opening scenes, so why wait until the very end to say something? Maybe I missed something there I don't know.

Still, perfectly fine episode.

S1.E5 - Well... It's Decent [7/10]
panagiotis199328 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E5) My Reaction / Review for Gen V Season 1 Episode 5 ''Welcome to the Monster Club''. Episode 4 was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. This episode is only 40 minutes long? That sucks. Why nobody remembers what happened? Why nobody talks about Sam? Where is Sam? Did that guy Rufus really make them forget? But the question is why he did it? Did he do it for Shetty maybe? The scene with the puppets was cool. Marie had a micro chip in her? What the hell? Who put it in there though? So Cate knew about the chips? What is going on? Cate works for Shetty and Rufus is innocent? I didn't see that coming. Overall a decent episode, my rating is 7/10.

Nothing much - 5
gribbygriblets13 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode doesn't really do a whole lot for pushing ahead in the narrative. The strange cliff hanger from the episode before becomes this episodes mystery and by the end of it the story takes 2 steps back and 1 and a half steps forward. The mystery is wrapped up with it only having the possability of complicating things as now all characters need to be seen what happened or recapped again. The only things it adds is the question of why Cate was influenced to do what she's done and a larger question mark on what Shetty wants with Marie.

In terms of Sam, we see him fight in a decent puppet sequence

Some acting and dialogue felt a bit teen drama-esque and the staging within shot was particularly uninspired.

Overall it felt lower quality than the episodes prior.

One Scene is Awesome but the Rest is Pretty Cringe
infinitetyler21 October 2023
Alright let's review the next installment of this discount store CW series milking The Boys IP for every fraction of a cent they can squeeze out of it until there's nothing but a dried up husk of a cool comic book. So when we left off, ah, who cares? The story is so all-over-the-place, just assume anyone can do anything, and anything can be ret-conned at any time. That's the level of laziness the writers are at. If you're ever unsure what's going on just remember: Diverse casting good, white guy bad. This show is a perfect example of something that's a "product of its time", and while it certainly won't be remembered by future generations, when future generations look back and laugh at something because "OMG that's SO Covid-era!" it will be when witnessing something as cliche as this show.

Watching the recap is like a blooper reel. How did I give this 4 stars?

Almost saw boobs for a second. I'm still trying to figure out who this show is made for. Is it made for college students? College students who did not grow up inundated with superhero movies? At its core it's a teen drama, an NC-17 teen drama.

The acting is exceptionally bad in this episode. The jokes are cringe. I keep forgetting how stupid the underlying premise of the school is, in that the students are trying to improve their social media scores, but every 15 minutes someone will make a hastily tacked on reference to their followers or Q score or something.

And then completely out of left field comes the Sam scene and it's a good show. That was totally awesome. For two minutes they put something genuinely creative to film and had competent people working on it.

But then it's back to the teen drama and talking about feelings. There's a lot of mind R'ing going on in this episode (their word not mine). At this point no one is responsible for their actions and since shape changing is a power literally anyone can be anyone.

It's weird how the references to The Boys universe feel pandering. As with the premise of the school, it's for the most part forgettable but then they remind you every 15 minutes with a random tacked-on reference.

This is a difficult episode to score because 95% of it was pure trash, but the Sam scene was so genuinely awesome and creative, and his storyline is compelling so I want to see where that goes. I can't believe it, but I give this a 5/10.

Waist of time
rodyvanhulst-5070416 October 2023
Most characters are boring. You can see the difference between this and the boys. Were this is a money grab focusing on powers the boys focuses on interresting characters and super powers second. Also this has a heavely political agenda for some reason. Maybe im just really dissapointed because the Boys comics and story are awesome and i wanted to see more but instead they made .... this. The powers arent interesting and the only good part so far was tek night. I dont think i will be watching the rest because every episode i go in hoping it will be good but then it will just let you down. Its a real shame.

Felt rushed
ladyliliroche17 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like it started out great but like... they started to rush it by this episode...

Things felt super jarring after Marie found the tracker in her shoulders. She rushed to Cate and the conversation just felt awkward. And she changed clothes after? And like Jordan was able to see the injury immediately after? And Marie was able to sense the tracker inside Jordan despite having her memory wipes? Is this a sign of her power growing but it wasn't even touched again after...

Like... it was just so painful to watch. Felt like they could have a smoother pace or something instead of what we were presented with.
