Not as satisfying as I would have liked, but otherwise an entertainingly odd short film

A man wakes up in the street covered in blood, with a massive open wound in the back of his head. Without compulsory medical insurance (thanks a lot Obama) he bandages it up and carries on the best he can, despite some very odd symptoms. Voices (well, a single voice) are only one of his concerns as he tries to deal with his wound and also navigate the social and professional politics associated with making a move the hot girl in the office.

To say The Grey Matter is an odd film is somewhat of an understatement since it does involve many odd things, not all of which hang together as they should. It is a horror movie but it is a horror movie that sits in the world of the ordinary and there is a certain amount of black comedy as to how this man fits into his regular world despite his fundamental and horrific change – American Werewolf in London is certainly something that springs to mind in terms of the overall approach. The story engages from the start, and all the developments and oddities only serve to add to that. This makes for a good film but perhaps not a totally rewarding one since the viewer is left with more questions than answers, and not all of the things in the film are ever explained or expanded.

The film is technically impressive, looking good and sounding good. The visual effects are also mostly impressive, although the talking worm perhaps is not as sharp as those used to Guardians of the Galaxy level of animated characters might expect, but still good for what he is. The cast play to the horror and comedy well – in particular Moss- Bachrach makes a good lead with his "ordinariness" played in contrast with events. The film does ultimately end without feeling really rewarding or satisfying, even if it did entertain and engage throughout; I'm not sure if the short is meant to be the bones of something bigger and this short presents a proof of concept of a sort, but it is something that could have been better in an otherwise entertainingly odd short film.

After a mysterious injury, an office stiff finds himself stumbling through an absurd, increasing unorthodox, and potentially fatal attraction.

Another amazing film by the McCoubrey brothers! With Luke's keen eye for cinematography and Peter's directorial talent, "The Grey Matter" tells a very unique story that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

The opening scene makes the audience wonder what the story is about, and it isn't until later in the end that the plot is finally revealed. There are also some nice touches of humor to lighten the darker tones of the film. The puns are a little cheesy but definitely add to the story.

In addition to the comedic aspects, "The Grey Matter" has an effective combination of static and stationary shots. Hand-held (shoulder-mounted) shots are very effective in drawing the audience into the film.

Overall, very engaging film by the McCoubrey brothers and always kept me wondering what was going to happen next.

Pretty interesting short

Warning: Spoilers
The only reason I got to watch this movie was because Jason Griffth, one of the best actors who voiced Sonic the Hedgehog/Shadow the Hedgehog was involved in this. I've never in my entire life, seen him physically act in a real life movie before and boy, this was a really nice surprise since he is a great actor anyways!

Funny and probably gross thing about watching this short is we get to see a deep talking germ who was eating Simons head off, which just seems so weird for this short because technically we wouldn't see a CGI thing on a real-life based drama and like CGI takes a friggin long time lol! It's even strange that we get to see Simon's crush wearing a bandage in the end, did the germ get to her too? How is this impossible??!

Really weird short but if you like to watch gross things, see a well known voice actor or you just don't wanna bother watching long winded movies, this one is definitely for you to watch !

Horrifically funny, by far the best short in the Monsterland film

This is by far the best short of the Monsterland film. If this had not been the second short of the film, I would have turned off the movie. From the writing, acting, cinematography, and director putting it all together, I was impressed as a horror movie fan. Though I haven't read the short story, I think Stephen King would be proud. This and Hellyfish are the only two shorts worth watching. This is second shown, and Hellyfish is last. Save yourself and fast forward through the rest of the film. Thank me later!

A nice mix of comedy, horror, accident, sexual attraction and a brain eater. Nothing special but well used pieces of story, decent performances and good dialogues and the veil of fairy tale. So, nice at whole.
