The 54th Annual Golden Horse Awards were held today in Taipei. That's the Taiwanese Oscars if you will. Though a female-led comedy called The Bold, the Corrupt, and the Beautiful took the top prizes, the film with the most wins was The Great Buddha+ which took home five. A romantic comedy called See You Tomorrow (the all-star cast includes Tfe favorites Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and Angelababy) took home most of the 'eye candy' prizes. The family tragedy Old Beast, about a father in court and at war with his kids, also did well.
Curiously Taiwan's Oscar submission Small Talk was eligible last year at this ceremony but wasn't a major player. You can see the whole 2017 ceremony online here but it's not subtitled so good luck! Toward the end of the ceremony Jessica Chastain even shows up to help Ang Lee present Best Actress...

The frontrunners include Sweden selected Ruben Östlund’s hilarious Palme d’Or-winner “The Square” (October 27, Magnolia Pictures), an art-world satire shot in majority Swedish with some English from stars Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, and Dominic West, thus giving Östlund another shot after “Force Majeure” was a surprise 2015 Oscar omission.
Germany’s choice, Fatih Akin’s “In the Fade” (December 27, Magnolia Pictures), won Best Actress for Diane Kruger at Cannes.

A warning: Show up late for your appointment to visit “Westworld,” and you might have to spend 20 minutes making small talk with a Host.
That was IndieWire’s experience, when dropping by the marketing activation created by HBO at this weekend’s Comic-Con to promote the cerebral Emmy-nominated sci-fi drama. In the show, mega-conglomerate Delos Destinations has built realistic, artificially intelligent robots to populate a vast theme park that emulates the experience of visiting the Old West. In real-life San Diego, while waiting in a faux Delos Destinations lobby for the next available “trip,” we filled the time by chatting with “John.”
John asked what kind of experience we were looking for during our stay in Westworld, as well as which of the weapons laid out in the display case in front of us were the most intriguing. Meanwhile, we asked if he could identify the song tinkling out from...

They later left the gala hand in hand.

Real talk: “Talk Show The Game Show” will penalize a guest for murder, but it adheres to strict guidelines for what that means. “If you murder someone during the course of the game, we don’t have to wait for the entire legal process to play out in the state of California,” host and creator Guy Branum said. “[Head judge] Casey Schreiner can just put you in the penalty box for a period of time, possibly even throw you out of the game.
“Though not necessarily,” Branum added. “It depends on the terms of the murder.”

While the 89th Annual Academy Awards were filled with more than its fair share of big surprises and one massive, baffling mishap, there was even more going on behind the scenes and off-camera that viewers at home didn't get a chance to witness.

Small talk is the glue that keeps society together. It's what fuels our days, what fills our time and what makes long, seemingly unending elevator rides ever-so-slightly bearable. Seriously, just imagine being stuck traveling 40 floors with one other person if you weren't able to bring the California drought. Or waiting in line at the office coffee maker without the crutch of the big game last night. It doesn't even matter what sport—just knowing that somewhere, someone was playing a big game, and you can ask about it if you have to is comforting. But after awhile, a person tires of the same old standbys. Or one realizes that people are starting to get wise to the fact that one is...

Give “Cell” points for narrative expediency. It wastes no time bringing about the complete collapse of Western Civilization. Over the elapsed time of a single phone call, graphic novelist Clay Riddell (John Cusack) watches the normal bustle of his surroundings at a Boston airport erupt in a full-scale brawl. The inciting incident isn’t an act of domestic terrorism, but a mysterious electronic pulse that turns all of the terminal’s cell phone users into unrepentant rage monsters. Because Clay was on a pay phone, he’s able to watch in horror as employees and passengers alike descend into a series of increasingly horrific, animalistic displays.
Despite the indiscriminate nature of these newly-birthed beasts (some are violent, some seem intent on self-harm, some seem content to convulse), the sight of innocent bystanders getting launched over escalator handrails and a member of the airport security detail ripping out the intestines of...

With rumors of a potential acquisition by Samsung now firmly in its rear window, Tidal is looking to drum up support for its library of original programming. The streaming service, which was acquired by Jay Z in March 2015, has released a trailer for the second season of its original web series No Small Talk, which will return with new episodes on April 1st.
No Small Talk is emceed by Cipha Sounds, a DJ who spent 17 years as a radio personality for New York City-area station Hot 97 before he was fired in 2015. In each episode of his web series, Cipha Sounds introduces a stand-up comedian, who proceeds to perform a set. A trailer for No Small Talk’s second season introduces some of the funnymen who will perform, while also setting up the show’s racially-diverse tone.

Could Amanda Holden be finally getting boss Simon Cowell back for that Bgt Nick Grimshaw prank? Because the TV star has just hinted that next year might be her last on Britain's Got Talent.
