The "Tonight Show" host enlisted Magic Mike himself, Channing Tatum, to perform some of the student-penned scenes on what these kids imagined a film called "Magic Mike" would be about. Following was a touching exchange between Magic Mike and the owner of a broken bicycle, a twist-heavy day at the office gone wrong and an impromptu duet. At a loss for what to watch this week? From new DVDs and Blu-rays, to what's streaming on Netflix, we've got you covered.
New on DVD and Blu-ray
"22 Jump Street"
Can Chris Miller and Phil Lord make anything entertaining? When "21 Jump Street" the movie was announced, it seemed utterly ludicrous, if not downright insulting. Yet here we are enjoying the sequel, digging on the continued doofy adventures of Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum). What's next, a dazzling movie about Legos?!
"20,000 Days on Earth"
This documentary about writer and musician Nick Cave is just as weird and wonderful as its subject. It's a must-see for fans of Cave's oeuvre, but even if you don't know a Boy Next Door from a Bad Seed, you'll get a kick out of this strange film. Featuring appearances by Kylie Minogue, Ray Winstone, Warren Ellis, and Blixa Bargeld.

"Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats" (November 14) We need more female-led standup specials. You do realize the greatest standup special of all time is Paula Poundstone's "Caps, Cops, and Stuff,...

Naturally when Joe Manganiello took E!'s Would You?/Could You? Quickfire Challenge, it got hot up in here real fast! He came into the E! studios to promote his directorial debut La Bare, a documentary about male dancers at the famous Dallas club, and he gave some insight into what he's like behind closed doors. We found out he has a soft spot when asked to name his favorite rom-com movie—it features one of America's sweethearts, aww! Also, when he has to "bare" it all, find out if he prefers to do it for a striptease or a sex scene. Either one is muy caliente! Before we let him go, we had to ask Joe if he would give us one last Alcide growl. He not only obliges, but he gives us a...

"Well, you know, I need to practice getting ready for Magic Mike 2. So, that's all I have to say," Manganiello admitted when asked if Vergara gets a private viewing of his...

Note to True Blood fans: Don’t read any further if you haven’t seen the latest episode, as there are major spoilers to follow.According to Joe Manganiello, viewers should have been prepared for a character as prominent as Alcide to bite the dust after Tara died in the season premiere. “Anyone can go at any time,” the actor told Vulture in advance of tonight’s episode. “They killed Tara in the cold open!” Ordinarily, said Manganiello, he would have had trouble keeping his hunky werewolf’s “shocking” death a secret, but promoting his directorial debut, a documentary about male strippers called La Bare, around the same time as his pre-season True Blood interviews helped him sidestep the topic. “I think people just like to talk about male stripping,” he laughed. Manganiello chatted with Vulture about lobbying for Alcide makeout sessions, impersonating Lafayette, and what’s in store for Magic Mike Xxl.

It's not every calendar year that an actor gets two titles as diverse as "First Time Filmmaker" and "Hollywood's Hottest Bachelor" but that's just what Joe Manganiello has accomplished in 2014. His male stripper documentary La Bare premiered at Slamdance this past January and hit theaters just as the final season of True Blood was kicking off. Good timing and you have to hand it to him. I mean this in the nicest possible way but actors of limited range who understand both their niche and the unique window of time they have to make some sort of substantial showbiz mark and then maximize it deserve a loud round of applause. Well done.
With La Bare, Manganiello manages to make a career move behind the camera that's also a not-at-all subtle reminder of his hunky allure in front of it. 'Oh yeah, he was in Magic Mike!' All of which...

Joe Manganiello played Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike, and it got him curious about the real world of male strippers, so he created the documentary about La Bare, the legendary Dallas strip club where the men create fantasy for hundreds of women. The trailer is very Nsfw.
The documentary shows that performing for women is about a show, it’s foreplay, and it’s not about the payoff as much as it is the build up. The men are hot, but approachable, and the women feel like they’re welcome as part of the show. Joe tells Vulture:
I can’t express to you how many times I’ve heard, “We’ve seen it all.” “There’s nothing new.” “Everything is recycled.” “Nothing is shocking.” Blah, blah, blah … But I guess I just never really paid attention to the chatter until I made my first feature film.

I can’t express to you how many times I’ve heard, “We’ve seen it all.” “There’s nothing new.” “Everything is recycled.” “Nothing is shocking.” Blah, blah, blah … But I guess I just never really paid attention to the chatter until I made my first feature film.

"Magic Mike" was based on the real-life experience of star Channing Tatum, who had once worked as a stripper. The world of male strippers was so intriguing that fellow cast member Joe Manganiello decided to go deeper and make a documentary about it.
"La Bare" started out as some footage that Manganiello and his brother Nick shot for a potential reality series. But as he spoke to real strippers and delved into the scene at the La Bare club in Dallas, he turned it into a feature-length documentary.
A new red-band trailer flashes a few glimpses at the bright lights, screaming women, muscled men, and the money-making owners that make up the industry.
"Men want to see naked women. What women want is the show," one person notes. And what a show it is!
But it's not all fun and hot, sweaty bodies. Manganiello also chronicles the tragic death of one of the dancers,...

The actor’s wife was found fatally shot at the couple’s home in Los Angeles. Joe Manganiello is noted for playing a hunky werewolf Alcide on True Blood and other roles that make the likes of My So-Called Life actor Wilson Cruz swoon. Primarily we mean Big Dick Richie, his character in the 2012 male-stripper comedy Magic Mike, a film that led him to the subject matter he examines in his directorial debut, La Bare, a documentary that hits theaters on June 27. Before we present an exclusive and decidedly Nsfw red-band trailer for the film, we’ll let Manganiello tee it up for you with a statement he provided to Vulture.I can’t express to you how many times I’ve heard, “We’ve seen it all.” “There's nothing new.” “Everything is recycled.” “Nothing is shocking.” Blah, blah, blah ... New non-fiction slate from the genre specialist also features Korea by Yann Moix and Why Horror?.
French genre specialist WTFilms has picked up sales on documentary La Bare, which goes behind the scenes at the famous male stripper club La Bare in Dallas, as part of a move into non-fiction.
WTFilms co-founders Dimitri Stephanides and Gregory Chamet say the move is a natural one for their Paris-based company, which has built up a strong reputation for its genre-based fiction slate in recent years.
“We love genre but want to tackle every aspect of its wide range”, said Stephanides
“Great films like Jodorowsky’s Dune and Room 237 have inspired us. Our name means we want to sell intense, rock ’n’ roll movies, and that is valid for documentaries as well.”

The male bump-and-grind is getting a new twist with Alan Ball's "I Am Chippendales," and it's possible that Ben Stiller will join the fun. Actually, the Ladies of Tampa should probably hold on to their dollar bills for now, as this biopic sounds like it's even darker than "Magic Mike." (Yeah, we'll say it. "Magic Mike" is kinda depressing!)
According to Variety, Ben Stiller is in talks to play Nicholas De Noia, a TV producer and choreographer for the original "Chippendales" who was found shot in his office in 1987. And that's just the tip of the iceberg in this crazy tale, which encompasses murder, murder-for-hire, dubious financial doings, and much more. It will be based on Rodney Sheldon's book about the franchise's beginnings, and its founders Paul Snider and Somen Banerjee. Ball, who is the mastermind behind "True Blood," "Six Feet Under," and "American Beauty," knows from sex,...

Main Street Films’ suspense thriller John Doe: Vigilante opens on March 21, 2014 in select cities. The controversial film addresses the themes of justice, vengeance and a failing legal system and begs the question, “is violence ever justified?” The film stars Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) as a man who takes the law into his own hands after becoming frustrated with a failing legal system. During test screenings the film received positive reviews with one audience member calling it, “riveting and very compelling.” Additionally, Bamber has spoken out about the film’s controversial subject matter calling it a “social commentary about what’s right and wrong.”
“When 67% of former prisoners are rearrested within three years of their release you know there’s something wrong with the legal system,” said Kelly Dolen, director. “John Doe: Vigilante is intended to create a debate and put a mirror up to society. We aren’t glamorizing violence,...

Preconceived notions about the male entertainment industry can drive some viewers away from film content, and I myself had little interest in seeing Magic Mike when it was released in 2012. However, a timely discussion with local filmmaker Richard Linklater about Matthew McConaughey's stellar roles of that preceding year led to his recommendation of Magic Mike due to the depth of McConaughey's performance as male strip club owner Dallas.
Joe Manganiello co-starred as Big Dick Richie in the film, which became a smash hit. Manganiello was so inspired by the discussions about the film's related topics of "objectification and post-feminist relations between the sexes" and interest in the characters that he and his brother Nick Manganiello decided to capture the men's stories themselves. The 3:59 Incorporated production team went to the birthplace of male entertainment -- the first La Bare club in Dallas, Texas, which has been open since 1978 -- resulting in their documentary,...

Batman director Christopher Nolan is among the film-makers who got their first break at the other movie event in Utah
Christopher Nolan arrived in Park City, Utah, last weekend, to pick up an award from the independent film festival where he first found recognition. Surprisingly, the award didn't come from Park City's most famous film event, the Sundance film festival, but its lesser-known counterpart, Slamdance, which takes place over the same two weekends on the same street.
If Sundance, 30 this year, is the established, dependable older sibling, Slamdance, founded independently in 1995, is the younger: an edgier, cheaper alternative for film-makers and fans alike, showing 100 movies a year, and with many of its alumni going on to wild success. In 1999, it accepted Nolan's first film, Following, starting a chain of events that eventually led to Christian Bale in a Batsuit.

Living up to his character profile as Big Dick Richie from "Magic Mike," Joe Manganiello has chosen to invest in a new business franchise: male strip clubs!
The 37-year-old produced "La Bare," a documentary about the Dallas outpost of a chain of male strip clubs, and he told E! News that, "The owner [of La Bare] has asked me if I want to go in with him on a new club."

Joe Manganiello really is taking his work as Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike to a whole other level. Not only has he produced La Bare, a documentary about the Dallas outpost of a chain of male strip clubs, but the True Blood star also may start investing in the franchise himself. Joe Manganiello can’t quit the stripper business. Two years after turning heads in Steven Soderbergh’s surprise male stripper smash "Magic Mike," the "True Blood" hunk is back with another film about men who disrobe to get by. No, not the highly anticipated sequel to "Magic Mike," but "La Bare," a documentary about the popular Dallas nightclub of the title, directed by Manganiello himself. The film world premieres at the Slamdance Film Festival over the weekend. Indiewire caught up with the actor/filmmaker to discuss his directorial debut and his affinity for men who bare it all. Has documentary filmmaking always been an interest of yours? Well I’ve always been into movies since I was a kid in high school, but as far as documentaries go, I’m a fan of watching documentaries. I would say that a majority of what I watch on TV is NFL football and documentaries.
