As the calendar flips from April to May, audiences may feel the affects of last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes bite deeply. May is the traditionally the first month for summer blockbusters to start making their way into theaters, and while titles like “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will bow in cinemas this month, the release schedule is certainly lacking compared to years past.
The good news is, there are plenty of new streaming titles coming to various platforms this month to help you stay entertained! The Streamable has compiled our list of new titles coming to streaming this week, and we’ll be here each week in May to help you find something awesome to watch every day.

Next month, Netflix will have a booth on the main CES show floor for the first time — where it will stage an “immersive experience” for the “3 Body Problem,” the sci-fi drama series from “Game of Thrones” duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo.
The streamer’s exhibit space at CES 2024 will be located at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall, Booth #17048. Per Netflix’s description of the activation: “An otherworldly headset will transport CES attendees into the mysterious world of ‘3 Body Problem’ in a fun and experiential way, showcasing the series’ genre-bending high stakes.” The experience keys off a key narrative element in the “3 Body Problem” universe, in which a gaming headset is used by characters to transport into an unknown world.

“3 Body Problem,” a new Netflix sci-fi series from “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, finally has a first teaser as Netflix announced on Saturday that the show will premiere in January 2024.
“As children, we fear the dark. Anything might be out there. The unknown troubles us,” an unseen man says in a voiceover. “There are those who say we should not inquire too closely, and, to who else might be living in that darkness, better not to know. But we continue to search. Life looks for life.”
As he speaks, the teaser flashes between scenes of people rioting, flashlights taking in a mysterious code that appears to be written in blood, a gnarled hand moving in water and a woman walking over lava. The clip then ends with dozens of what appear to be Roman soldiers being sucked into the sky.

When our own JimmyO interviewed director Ti West and star Mia Goth about their X (watch it at This Link) prequel Pearl (watch that one Here), West said that he and Goth crafted the script for Pearl together while he was spending two weeks in quarantine before he could start working on X in New Zealand. They would discuss the story and the Pearl character over FaceTime, then work on the script. During an appearance at the Savannah College of Art and Design during the 25th Scad Savannah Film Festival, Goth talked more about the scripting process – and revealed that the creepy smile Pearl gives at the end of the film was something West just thought of when they were on set that day.

BBC America has set a U.S. premiere date for the salvaged “Doctor Who” serial “Fury From the Deep,” AMC Networks announced Wednesday.
The six animated episodes were produced by BBC Studios last year using audio tracks from the original installments starring Patrick Troughton as The Doctor. The updated animated versions, which aired in the U.K. back in September, will get their U.S. debut on BBC America on Sunday, March 21.
The announcement came along with a slew of other new premiere dates for AMC’s various networks and streaming platforms, including BBC America, IFC, the flagship AMC linear network, Shudder and Acorn TV.

‘Seachange’.
The Nine Network screened just two first-release Australian dramas – Seachange and Bad Mothers – last year and had to rely on New Zealand imports to fulfill the local drama quota.
Kiwi series The Brokenwood Mysteries, Straight Forward, Westside, The Bad Seed and Dear Murderer and feature film The Changeover aired on 9Gem, accounting for 50 per cent of the network’s local drama obligations.
Conversely, Nz dramas accounted for only 5 per cent of Network 10’s local drama hours and and 10 per cent of the Seven Network’s, according to the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s 2019 Compliance with Australian Content Standard and Children’s Television Standard report issued last week.
The report prompted Screen Producers Australia to renew its attack on Australian broadcasters’ continued reliance on “cheap, second-run New Zealand programs” to acquit their local Australian content obligations.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: During a period of political unrest, which TV show do you find yourself turning to?
Todd VanDerWerff (@tvoti), Vox
This is weird, but as the inauguration of Donald Trump (and the attendant protests) have approached, I’ve been thinking more and more of “Lost,” a show filled with anxiety about the darkness humanity is capable of, but undergirded with hope about what we can do when we’re all forced to work together. I, in general, believe humanity works toward something better, and while that faith has been shaken throughout my life (and is almost certainly coaxed into existence by the fact that I am a...

Melina Vidler, Benson Jack Anthony, Rick Donald and Bridie Carter have joined Erik Thomson in 800 Words, a drama commissioned by the Seven Network and Tvnz.
The 8-part series stars Thomson as George Turner, who quits his job as an 800 word columnist for a Sydney newspaper after his wife dies and, on impulse, buys a house in a remote New Zealand seaside town.
Vidler (The Arrangement, Mako: Island of Secrets) and Anthony (Underbelly Razor, Blood Brothers, Legend of the Seeker) play his teenage children Shay and Arlo Turner.
The family.s hopes of making a fresh start don.t go to plan in their new environment as the locals are both secretive and inquisitive.
Donald (Friends with Better Lives, The Doctor Blake Mysteries) is cast as George.s new best mate Woody, a fellow Aussie and keen surfer, with Carter (McLeod.s Daughters) as Jan, editor of the newspaper George wrote for.
