Poor Demelza
jonassladen28 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Demelza is broken-hearted enough. And she doesn't get to say goodbye to her daughter. Why didn't Ross wait to see if she would recover before burying Julia?

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for Ross Veneer Podark
lavatch10 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the final episode of season one, the goodness of Demelza is apparent when she travels to Trenwith manor to nurse back to health the ailing Francis, Elizabeth, and Geoffrey Charles. She uses her home remedies, and they all recover.

But the bad follows when Demelza contracts the contagious "putrid throat." In the process, little Julia is infected and dies. Demelza recovers, but is grief-stricken.

The ugly is apparent in the precarious straits of the Podark copper mine. The Carnmore trust has folded with the Warleggans seeking to ruin Ross. Things become even uglier when the Warleggan ship founders, and the cargo floats ashore on Podark land.

The miners and their families recover the goods. Starving, they are in dire need of the food. It should be legal to appropriate the cargo on Hendrawna Beach. But George Warleggan has paid off the local constabulary. Ross is arrested for fomenting a riot and for the murder of the gambler Matthew Sanson.

With episode eight, there is no closure to season one. George Warleggan declares his love for Elizabeth. Ross Veneer Podark is carted off to Bodim prison where he will await trial for capital offenses.
