Having family secrets is one thing, but having a family secret that flips your world upside down in such a way that messes with your cultural and genetic identity can be a heavy burden for you to carry on your shoulders. For Kulap Vilaysack, she faced a hard truth as a teenager when she learned the man that raised her wasn’t her real father. It complicated her relationship with her mother and it marked the start of an emotional journey of uncovering more truths in her entangled family tree that would lead to her documentary Origin Story, which will screen at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival on May 7 ahead of its debut on May 10 on Amazon — all appropriate for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The documentary will also have a limited theatrical run at the Arena Cinelounge in Hollywood.

The first round of opening weekend tracking numbers has arrived, and Warner Bros./DC’s “Aquaman” and Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” are projected to top what is set to be the most crowded and competitive Christmas movie season in years.
That’s because for the first time since 2014, there won’t be a “Star Wars” film lording over the December slate and forcing the rest of Hollywood to keep their end-of-year releases at a safe distance. Instead, this Christmas will see every studio try to stake out a different demographic, from big-budget blockbusters trying to gain four-quadrant support to musicals and inspirational biopics that will try to attract women and older audiences.

But it’s “Aquaman” that is projected to lead the pack with a $70-80 million opening from Friday to Christmas Day on Tuesday.

Paramount Pictures took “Transformers” fans back to the ’80s with new footage for the upcoming prequel “Bumblebee,” which answered at least one question about the movie’s villains.
During Paramount’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight called the “Transformers” prequel an “origin story” that will include scenes on the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron. He also told fans the jet fighter Transformer featured in the first “Bumblebee” trailer is the Decepticon Blitzwing, not the beloved “Transformers” villain Starscream, as some had guessed.
The prequel dials back 27 years before the first of the modern “Transformers” films and focuses on Bumblebee, the yellow Autobot who’s a primary figure throughout the series. Bumblebee befriends a teenage girl named Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) in the movie, and the pair go on the run after a government enforcer, Agent Burns (John Cena), tries to capture Bee.
