Halle Berry Goes Down With The Mothership
It didn’t set off nearly the online uproar as did Warner Bros.’ decision to dynamite its $70 million Coyote vs. Acme action-animation hybrid, but another high-profile movie was recently, much more quietly, dumped. Netflix has grounded The Mothership, a Halle Berry sci-fi thriller directed by Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies co-writer Matt Charman. The $40 million project started filming during the pandemic in 2021 and ran into one snafu after another — scheduling conflicts, reshoots, strikes and, most recently, continuity issues brought on by growth spurts among some of the children in its cast. During a Jan. 31 news conference, Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria cited “lots of production issues and story issues” for shelving the movie and insisted that “everybody just felt like it was the right thing to just not do it.” A source tells THR, however, that there may have been another reason Mothership got axed: Its biggest champion,...

The apprentice has become the master... and unlike the Sith, he didn't have to stab him in the back with his lightsaber to do so! Yes, nearly 20 years after George Lucas recruited a humble storyboard artist and animation assistant director by the name of Dave Filoni to work with him at the newly launched Lucasfilm Animation, Filoni has now been named the chief creative officer at Lucasfilm. And if you were expecting him to just sit around on his hands after almost five years without a new "Star Wars" movie, well, guess again.
As part of today's announcement that Filoni's fellow "The Mandalorian" executive producer Jon Favreau is helming a film spinoff titled "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the official Star Wars website has confirmed that Filoni is "currently developing" a second season of his "Mandalorian" spinoff series "Ahsoka." Tierra Whack is back with a new single, “Chanel Pit,” and an accompanying music video. Stream it below.
Produced by Nick Verruto, “Chanel Pit” finds the Philly rapper and singer sprinkling a variety of references to Microsoft Excel, Resident Evil, and Vin Diesel alongside fashion designers like Rick Owens. “Mosh pit smell like Chanel” she raps on the chorus. “Yes, Microsoft, I’ma excel/ Mhm, nine, ten, eleven, fuck 12.”
In the typically whimsical visual treatment, directed by frequent collaborator Alex Lill, Whack goes through an automated car wash without actually sitting in a vehicle. Watch the video below.
Whack spoke about “Chanel Pit” in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, during which she explained the song has been sitting around for a while. “I made it a few years ago,” she said. “I have a lot of music stacked, but it’s something about anytime I would play that song for people,...

Emma D’Arcy was feeling like a bit of a cheat. It was July of 2022 at the world premiere of House of the Dragon in Los Angeles. Stylishly dressed in an oversized suit and drop earrings, D’Arcy worked the red carpet like an old pro but never felt completely at ease among the hundreds of eager fans who packed the Academy Museum theater. “It’s like finding yourself in someone else’s life,” recalls the actor, who plays Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO drama that’s based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. “It’s quite wild having never done that before, and certainly not on that scale, obviously, with one of the biggest shows in the world. And I am quite camera shy, which is obviously a disaster.”
But when the lights went down and the Game of Thrones theme music filled the theater, D’Arcy’s anxiety...

In “Mee Pok Man” director Eric Khoo reminds us vividly that love is often inscrutable and hard to get. The 1995 debut film of the Singaporean director was torn apart by critics on its release. Nowadays more and more scholars tend to discover its importance for Singapore’s cinematic history. Enough reasons to take a closer look and to find out how good, or bad, “Mee Pok Man” really is.

A Million Little Things‘ Band of Dads gets back together for an encore in this week’s episode, an hour that highlights how much time has passed in the lives of the characters since the series’ first season.
To wit: Danny, who was very much a kid when the ABC series got underway, seeks advice from Gary, Rome and Eddie in advance of his first sexual encounter with boyfriend Milo. And though that particular topic means the three older men have to venture into virgin territory, they do a pretty good job of steering Jon’s young son in the right direction.

There is an issue when somebody tries to review Eric Khoo’s films. Despite of the opinion you might have about them, the fact remains that a number of them are landmarks of Singaporean cinema. For example, “12 Storeys” was the first film from Singapore to screen at Cannes; “My Magic” remains the only movie from Singapore to be nominated for the Palme D’Or; “Be With Me” was the first Singaporean film to be nominated for the European Film Awards in 2005. In this particular case, “In the Room” is credited as the first Singaporean erotic movie, which actually means a lot when one considers the strictness of the censorship board of the country, which actually caused a lot of trouble to Khoo before it finally allowed the film to screen in Singapore under an R21 classification. This aspect, of all the aforementioned films, makes reviewing them quite hard, since they...

“‘This is Us’ is a handbook for living,” explains Chris Sullivan when describing the shocking Season 5 finale of NBC’s Emmy-winning drama. “Dan Fogelman has created this kind of handbook for relationships and he’s exploring every aspect of relationships. I think I realized early on, if he’s going to explore every aspect of a relationship, then he’s probably going to explore the dissolution of a relationship. Divorce or a split was going to have to play into it somewhere and we all could have guessed that it wasn’t going to be Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson).”
Sullivan is nominated for Best Drama Supporting Actor at this year’s Emmys for playing Toby Damon, the wise-cracking husband of Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz). In his exclusive interview with Gold Derby (watch the video above) he discusses his second Emmy nomination and what the future...

Jason Kennedy has left E!, 16 years after serving as host for the network’s celebrity interview show. The former E! personality announced his departure Monday morning in an Instagram post.
“Most recently, I loved being the host of ‘In the Room,’ but Covid restrictions made it impossible to capture interviews with celebrities in a more personal setting, so I’ve decided to explore new opportunities,” the host wrote.
Kennedy, who has interviewed a host of notable Hollywood figures and cultural icons ranging from Jimmy Fallon to Dolly Parton, added that he has “a slate of exciting projects” on the way. Back in August, E! shared that it had cancelled a trio of shows, Kennedy’s included. The other two programs canceled amid coronavirus-related financial issues were E! News and Pop Of The Morning. It's the end of an era for E! News.
The long-running entertainment show has become a casualty of the Coronavirus pandemic, according to Variety.
Pop of the Morning and In the Room have also been nixed at the network.
The decision to cancel the trio comes as parent company NBCUniversal is looking to “streamline its programming and restructure internally to create more efficiencies.”
All three shows were produced in New York City, but as part of the restructuring, future productions are said to return to Los Angeles.
E! News had relocated to New York in August 2019 in a shakeup that saw the series being shifted from its 7 p.m. Et perch to 7 a.m. Et.
E! News has been overhauled multiple times since it debuted in 1991.
The series had a string of big names as part of its hosting roster, including Samantha Harris (2005–2008), Jason Kennedy (2005–2019), Variety‘s Marc Malkin (2006–2017), Maria Menounos...

E! has canceled its three New York-based entertainment news programs — E! News, Pop Of The Morning and In The Room, Deadline has confirmed.
E! News, Pop Of The Morning and In The Room paused production in March at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. They had remained dark ever since, leading to their cancellation.
I hear the reasons were financial. All divisions of NBCUniversal have been asked to look for ways to cut costs and produce content more efficiently as the company — like most entertainment congloms — grapples with the economic impact from the pandemic. I hear E! will consolidate its production operations on the West Coast.
The news comes one year after E! announced an expansion of its entertainment news programming under Tammy Filler, who joined E! from Today in May 2019 to oversee development and production for all news programming across platforms. With that expansion, E! News moved from the...

Three E! entertainment news shows — “E! News,” “Pop of the Morning,” and “In the Room” — have been canceled, Variety has learned.
The move comes just a year after E! announced an expansion to its slate of entertainment news programming under veteran former “Today” producer Tammy Filler, who joined in April 2019 to lead creative and production for E!’s news operations. The goal was to build out a secondary studio base in New York and add hours to its daily coverage.
A year ago, the flagship “E! News” program, which launched in 1991 and has been hosted by such names as Ryan Seacrest, Giuliana Rancic and Maria Menounos, transitioned its nightly Los Angeles show to a morning program in New York. “Pop of the Morning” was also based in New York, and featured a panel of hosts discussing the day’s biggest entertainment news stories. “In the Room” featured interviews with celebrities...

Happy 32nd birthday, Morgan Stewart! The Daily Pop and Nightly Pop host may not be in the office today with her fellow E! personalities, but that wasn't going to stop them from celebrating on her behalf. Check out this fun clip, which shows everyone from In The Room's Jason Kennedy to The Rundown's Erin Lim sending their love to Morgan on her big day! Some of the messages were admittedly sweeter than others—like Erin's, which declared Morgan "a goddess" and "Gemini queen,"—but there were also a few awkward moments. Kathie Lee Gifford really is her former Today co-host's biggest fan! The former anchor commended Hoda Kotb for her commitment to the Today show in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, telling In the Room's Jason Kennedy that she should be a shoo-in for (another!) Daytime Emmy. "I was FaceTiming with Hoda just the other morning around 6 in the morning; She hadn't gone on air yet," Kathie explained. "She's the only person in Studio 1A. And then she turns it around and it's on Anthony, one of my favorite cameramen. And he had Covid really bad. And my heart just lept that he was good, he was fine, he was healthy and he was back at work." Kathie, however, said she couldn't...

"But I think that's one of the beautiful things about this time, even though it's a time of great hardship for so many, is that simplicity, going back to the way I think probably both of us were raised, which is eating every dinner with our family, sitting at the table and laughing, playing games," Bush Hager reflected....

Keeping up with Kourtney. That's exactly what E!'s own Jason Kennedy did on tonight's all-new In the Room. We're, of course, talking about the one-on-one chat Jason had with Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kourtney Kardashian. As Kuwtk has been on the air for 17 seasons, it certainly feels like we know all about the oldest Kardashian. However, in typical In the Room fashion, viewers got a closer look at the more private Kardashian-Jenner. Not only did Kourtney open up about her past relationship with Scott Disick, but she also dished on the launch of her lifestyle site, Poosh.com. Oh, and she has plenty to say about her...

"I feel like I've finally got to the place where I can balance being a mom and working," the Poosh founder said. "I've always done both obviously, but it used to be where I would work a lot more. So I've really shifted my focus." Kourtney explained that she wants the time spent with her kids to be meaningful, too. "My kids have always been...

Does JoJo Siwa have a boyfriend? E!'s own Jason Kennedy finds himself asking this very question in this clip from Monday's all-new In the Room. As the entertainment journalist is given a tour of Siwa's colorful home, he spots a framed photo of the YouTube star and alleged boyfriend, Elliot Brown. "Do you care to say anything about that? Is this a guy friend, someone you're cool with, you like him, you're dating?" Kennedy inquires. Welcome to Waco, Jason Kennedy! On Monday's all-new In the Room, the E! personality swung by the central Texas town. Why? To pay a visit to Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines, of course. As E! readers surely know, fans were shocked when the beloved Hgtv couple announced their "bittersweet" decision to end Fixer Upper. With the last episode of the hit home design and renovation show airing in April 2018, viewers were left missing the twosome's barnyard chic aesthetic and loving banter. Yet, as was made abundantly clear on In the Room, the Gaines' departure from Fixer Upper was merely a sabbatical from the limelight, not a definite exit. Thus, it wasn't surprising when the famed entertainment journalist got the Jurassic World leading man to open up on variety of topics during Monday's all-new In the Room. In fact, the Parks & Recreation alum discussed everything from intermittent fasting to his favorite in-law to rediscovering his faith after his son Jack's premature birth. Roger Ailes’ shadow continues to loom large in U.S. politics but the Fox News boss will also have a presence at the 77th Golden Globe Awards after two separate projects about the controversial newsman scored nominations.
Lionsgate feature film Bombshell and Showtime mini-series The Loudest Voice each picked up two nominations – marking an unusual moment when projects from the big-screen and the small-screen covering the same subject are nominated at the same time.
On the television side, Crowe, who plays Ailes, has been nominated for best actor in a limited series and will come up against Catch-22’s Christopher Abbott, The Spy’s Sacha Baron Cohen, Fosse/Verdon’s Sam Rockwell and Chernobyl’s Jared Harris.
John Lithgow, who plays Ailes in Bombshell, however, was not nominated. It would have been particularly unusual for two actors to be up for awards for their different takes on the same real-life figure.
