This was a great and funny episode! There were a lot of things I was surprised by, and I had great fun watching it. Expect some shocks and laughs in this episode. It's awesome. As far as characters go, Discord received a hefty amount of development, and we even get to see where he lives when he's not hanging out with Fluttershy. There are a couple new characters, Tree Hugger, whom is a hippie, and the Smooze, and you may remember the Smooze from an old My Little Pony movie back in the 80's. (Nothing can stop... the Smooze!) The fourth wall is broken in this episode, not gonna lie. There's even a part where Discord says he's going to send someone to another dimension, and the dimension looks very realistic. The shattered walls only add to the comedy. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your popcorn and turn on the TV (or computer, what ever you prefer.), and get ready for some fun!

Galloping jealousy
TheLittleSongbird7 December 2020
Ever since he was first introduced in the Season 2 premiere "Return of Harmony", Discord has been one of my favourite 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' characters. One of the funniest and most interesting, as well as one of the more consistent characters when it comes to characterisation (mostly, there were a couple of exceptions). Episodes revolving around a character being jealous varied in quality, with it for example not working with Spike in Season 1's "Owl's Well that Ends Well".

It does however work for Discord in "Make New Friends But Keep Discord" but it was not overused or exaggerated. It is a perfect example of why he is such a great character and one of his best episodes in my view. It was also great and actually quite refreshing in a much needed way that Season 5 went from in just one episode one of its worst episodes in "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" to one of its best in "Make New Friends But Keep Discord".

The whole thing with the smooze was a touch rushed.

"Make New Friends But Keep Discord" is absolutely great otherwise though. As far as Discord-centric episodes go, it is one of the funniest and is easily one of the funniest ones of Season 5. The dialogue here is some of the season's smartest and is filled with laugh out loud lines, there are plenty of jokes and references (often from Discord) and the best of them in an episode where all of them hit are hilarious. Discord is a joy in this episode, not only does have great comic timing and a compelling personality his want to change is very believable and his struggles feel real.

When it comes to the character interaction, "Make New Friends But Keep Discord" is one of the season's most interesting. The characters interact so well with each other, with all the Mane 6 being true to character, just as fun and likeable and having individual personalities. Seeing Rarity and Applejack being civil to Discord and Fluttershy being assertive was great, Treehugger was an awesome character here and Celestia trolling was fun. Spike has a creepy moment with Discord too. Every character has shining moments, even little things like Celestia's laugh at Discord's joke and Rarity and Applejack's look to each other reacting to their sisters' yelling.

As to be expected, the animation is vibrant and richly detailed and the music has both groove and atmosphere. The story is lively and is packed full of fun moments and strong conflict. The voice acting is on point, John DeLancie continues to be perfect casting for Discord.

In summation, great. 9/10
