Very enjoyable

I really rather liked this. It seemed to hit the ground running which most sitcoms fail miserably at. Darren Boyd is a talented comic actor whom I have always liked especially in Smack the Pony. The rest of the support actors do just that and support him pretty well perfectly. Paddy McGuinness managed to shake off the dreadful gameshow host persona which he employs at times and is adept at delivering his lines. I am not a huge fan of Fay Ripley but she, too, is well employed as the sister in the department who fancies Darren's character something rotten. I laughed quite a lot and look forward to seeing more episodes. Good writing and situations which ring true make The Delivery Man a great new TV series.

Has potential. Hope to see them develop the characters in the next season
yapity4 September 2015
If there's one thing I love, it's tall handsome well built men holding babies, or feeding babies, or in general being nurturing to babies. So of course when I found this series in my suggestions from Netflix, I jumped straight on that bandwagon!

I did watch the whole season, at least as much as is on Netflix right now, and honestly I could take it or leave it. It's very lighthearted, which is nice, but as a result doesn't make a very big impression either. The humor is not terrible but doesn't make you laugh out loud either.

I do get tired of the endless drama in soap operas, but this show is one that could use a little more. Especially seeing the mothers and the births and our main character dealing with those. I'm surprised to see a show that was rated tv-14 (a soft version of MA for mature here in Canada) that danced around the issue of giving birth so much. It's a show about midwives for goodness sake! Giving birth usually has enough drama to spare, and this show capitalizes on none of that, instead choosing to use the horrible incompetence of the staff to create humor and drama.

I really did enjoy it, and the characters all have their unique charm, but they're one dimensional. I hope that in the next season (if there is one) the potential of this series will really be expanded upon.

Delightful

Darren Boyd plays Matthew exactly the same as he played Tim in "Spy"...and it's delightful. His deadpan delivery as the only sane man in a hospital labor and delivery ward works really well.

As the only male midwife, and only ex-police officer midwife, in the department, Matthew struggles with the prejudices of his coworkers and the patients. The supporting characters aren't as strong as those in "Spy" and the requisite love interest less interesting, but it's still a funny 22 minutes, enough to make me want to continue immediately to the next episode.

At the time of this writing, there are only six episodes, which are available in the US via Netflix. I found subtitles helpful in understanding the British accents.

The Brits score again
Namear6 August 2015
Having watched and liked Spy very much the minute I saw this playing on an Emirates flight to London I clicked hoping to see the same quality and boy it did.

Humor is so clever, rapid, subtle and innovative that before I knew it I have already watched all episodes (I think 6) available and barely had time to go through the materials I have for my meeting. In other words no low quality "filling" whatsoever was spotted.

It so good that on the way back next day I watched it all again before even trying to see what else was there (a total of 1500 channels). Yes it is that good.

I would highly recommend it to all comedy fans. Looking forward for more of it.

Warning: Spoilers
"The delivery man" arrives via "Airplane!" and "Green Wing" and is quite unembarrassed in showing it's origins at frequent intervals. You have the bald guy(the excellent Mr A.Macqueen, brilliant as the acerbic anaesthetist in "Holby City) leaping into the frame and making non - sequiturs a la Stephen Stocker in the American comedy and the downright larceny and pulverisation of many a British hospital soap en route to "Green Wing"'s jerky movements and eccentric music score. Miss F.Ripley's character borrows heavily from Miss S.Lopez's performance - or at least the script gives her virtually the same ground to cover i.e.a hopeless lust for the handsome young medic . The sublime Mr Darren Boyd plays the new midwife, recently resigned from the police, who faces prejudice both from his patients and his colleagues and deals with it pragmatically and amusingly. The fact that he was in "Green Wing" acts to cement the two programmes even closer together. Now there is nothing wrong with "hommage" - many of the finest talents in TV and movies use it freely - but there comes a stage where it creeps over to plagiarism and some of "The delivery man" reaches quite close to the limit as far as that is concerned. But,as you might think considering it's origins,it is very funny, quite sharp and the lead character has an appealing vulnerability under his somewhat imperturbable exterior that makes him extremely likable. I have enjoyed this series so far,but I feel that if it is to keep my attention it really should wrench itself away from what has been done before rather better and try to give us something a little fresher.

Refreshing

I love this series. I wasn't sure about it at first but when I started it I watched the whole series in one day, not realizing there was only half a dozen episodes! I was so disappointed! I will be even more disappointed if they don't renew it as its a very nice, laid back, entertaining show. I especially love that it's not vulgar like most shows these days. This is my first review but I felt it was important to let the people doing the show know that there are viewers who love The Delivery Man and would hate to see it fall under the same bracket as other much- loved shows. As I said this is my first review so I honestly I don't know what else to mention in the minimum review length. Sorry IMDb!

Why in the world is this show not in season 3. So rare to have a sharply written and acted comedy. Great writing and delivery.

Warning: Spoilers
I loved Spy with Darren Boyd and when I stumbled upon this running on Netflix I had to give it a try. Great fun. The verbal repartee is non stop. The setting is farce. The plots as such are secondary to the fun. There is nothing serious going on here but the zingers fly by so fast it helps to put the subtitles on just so you don't miss anything. These are short 22 minute episodes so they just fly by. This show is as far as you can get from a drama like Call the Midwife. If you have to have a plot then Darren (Matthew) had decided he didn't want to be cop so he is now a midwife He is attracted to Asling Bea (Lisa) but she has a boyfriend. If you need a break from all the heavy drama out there and comedies that take themselves too seriously (Modern Family,) then take a break and watch all six episodes. And that's all folks. More please.

It was actually pretty good.

I actually enjoyed this show. Not often I come to find shows enjoyable anymore. I am starting to enjoy British shows. Too bad it's only 6 episodes. Sadly I been finding it hard go find shows that I can enjoy. An ex cop becomes a midwife, he is doing a good job.

A comedy with a fresh story line
Gunner-M48A5-K14 April 2021
While cruising through ACORN we found this gem. What a nice change. Leave it to the British to get a great show. To bad it was only one season. This show made the wife and I laugh almost nonstop. The show was filled with sexual innuendos without being offensive.
