Shameik Moore and Paris Jackson have grabbed lead roles in the drama One Spoon of Chocolate, which has started production in Atlanta.
Rapper and filmmaker Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, also known RZA, is directing from his own screenplay. The feature follows an ex-military convict leaving the city for a small town where he ends up finding love, danger and more trouble than he can handle, according to a synopsis from the producers.
RZA made his directorial debut with 2012’s The Man With the Iron Fists, in which he starred as the title character and penned the script alongside producer Eli Roth. His directorial follow-up, the Lionsgate rap and poetry drama Love Beats Rhymes, starred Azealia Banks, Common, Jill Scott and Lorraine Toussaint.

It’s an interesting month on HBO and Max this March, as two acclaimed films hit the streamer along with some intriguing original programming.
First up in the movies arena is the streaming debut of Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet. From beloved Paddington director Paul King, the film follows the adventures of a young Willy Wonka as he looks to become the world’s best (and weirdest) chocolatier. Later in March on Max, there’s also Dream Scenario, a highly-regarded comedy boasting Nicolas Cage as Paul Matthews, who suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams for unknown reasons, and who naturally becomes very famous as a result of this strange phenomena.
Series-wise, the biggest show on Max this month is The Regime. It packs a solid cast, including Kate Winslet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant, and tells the story of “life within the walls of a modern...

“It’s such a work of heart,” is how William Shatner describes his newest project, the intensely personal and talent-packed spoken word album Bill. It borrows stories from Shatner’s 90 years of life, many of which have been lived in the public eye, and covers everything from schoolyard bullying (“Toughie”) and the Star Trek cancellation (“So Far From the Moon”) to a business deal gone wrong (“Just Forgive”) and Shatner’s three obsessions (“Love, Death, and Horses”).

“Cut Throat City” marks RZA’s third directed feature film, and he says it’s the project he feels the most confident in as a filmmaker.
“I actually do think I found my voice,” the founding member of rap supergroup Wu-Tang Clan tells Variety. RZA, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, previously helmed 2012’s martial arts-western “The Man With the Iron Fists” and 2017’s romantic drama “Love Beats Rhymes.”
“So, the third feature really for me is what I would call the consolidation piece. I feel concrete in my style of storytelling,” he says.
The action film, set in post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, stars Shameik Moore as Blink, a college-educated aspiring comic book artist who, along with several friends, becomes entangled with a local criminal (played by Tip “T.I.” Harris) and is tasked with pulling off a dangerous heist. Eiza González, Ethan Hawke, Kat Graham and Wesley Snipes also star.

The 2020 edition of SXSW has announced its features and episodic premieres for the 27th edition of the film festival, running March 13 – 22 in Austin. The 102 features and episodics in this release will be shown across the nine days of SXSW. The 2020 program was selected from 2,316 feature-length film submissions, with a total of 8,362 films submitted this year.
As has become its tradition, the festival will open with a highly anticipated studio crowdpleaser. Judd Apatow’s “The King of Staten Island,” his first feature directorial outing since 2015’s “Trainwreck,” stars Pete Davidson in a lightly fictionalized version of the “SNL” star’s own life story. The film is set for a June release from Universal Pictures.
Apatow has been a regular at SXSW, where “Knocked Up” and “Trainwreck” both launched to strong reactions, but this is his first time opening the festival. “It’s a great film,” SXSW Director of Film Janet Pierson...

Camille Hyde (American Vandal) and Lucien Laviscount (Scream Queens) have joined the cast of Katy Keene, the CW’s Riverdale spinoff pilot from Riverdale creator/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.
Written by Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi and directed by Maggie Kiley, Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene and singer-songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) — as they chase their twentysomething dreams in New York City. The musical dramedy based on the Archie Comics chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.
Hyde will play Alexandra Cabot, a powerful, savvy and chic New York socialite who is an Svp at her father’s company. Both respected and feared, Alexandra is competitive with her brother, who has a very different vision for the record label.

RZA is on the cusp of two professional milestones. This November, his legendary hip-hop group, the Wu-Tang Clan, will ring in its 25th anniversary with a series of Down Under concerts. And early next year, he will bring audiences his third film as a director, “Cut Throat City.”
Born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, the artist began releasing features six years ago. Rather than a career pivot, moviemaking represented coming full circle in the entertainment industry: the very first Wu-Tang album (“Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers”) took its name from the 1978 film “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.” In it, a fugitive college student travels to a Shaolin temple to master kung-fu, plotting revenge on his tyrannical government. During “RZA: Movies, Music, and Martial Arts” — his recent Hall H talk at San Diego Comic-Con — RZA recalled why Liu Chia-liang’s epic resonated for him and his bandmates.

Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA unveiled the trailer for his latest directorial effort Cut Throat City Saturday at San Diego’s Comic-Con.
Cut Throat City is a heist film that takes place in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, with four childhood friends returning to a storm-ravaged New Orleans to no home, no job and “no help from Fema.”
“Reluctantly turning to a local gangster for work, the friends are hired to pull off a daring heist in the heart of the city,” according to the film’s synopsis.

Wu-Tang Clan co-founder RZA makes a sharp stylistic departure with his directorial follow-up to his debut feature, 2012's martial arts extravaganza The Man With the Iron Fists. Featuring rapper/singer Azealia Banks in her first starring role, the punningly titled Love Beats Rhymes is a romantic drama that also explores the comparative merits of poetry and rap. Despite its frequently clunky dramaturgy, the film makes some interesting points while providing an excellent showcase for Banks' considerable onscreen charisma.

"All I ever wanted is to be a rapper," Azealia Banks' character Coco says in the new trailer for the RZA-directed Love Beats Rhymes. "I want people to fall in love with my words."
Originally titled after the lead character's name, the now-named Love Beats Rhymes follows Coco, a struggling, aspiring artist as she navigates showcasing credibility in a live setting and with record industry types while working on her craft. The trailer focuses on inspiration and finding one's voice.

"I need more than potential to sell records." Lionsgate has released the first official trailer for the new film directed by RZA titled Love Beats Rhymes, a musical drama about a struggling rapper who turns to slam poetry. Azealia Banks plays Coco, who takes a poetry class and tries to impress her teacher with her rhymes. Instead, she learns to dig deeper and discovers her "true voice." This film also stars Hana Mae Lee, Method Man, John David Washington, Common, Lorraine Toussaint, Lucien Laviscount, and Jill Scott and Professor Dixon. This reminds me of the film festival hit Bodied, about rapping, but it also seems to have its own nice vibe to it that might make for good entertainment and creative inspiration. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for RZA's Love Beats Rhymes, direct from YouTube: When struggling rapper Coco (Azealia Banks) enrolls in a poetry class, she thinks her rhymes will impress her teacher,...

When you’re heading to a three-day music festival in the middle of the California desert, one would think to pack sensible separates and comfortable, well-ventilated shoes for all concert-going activities. But instead stars choose fashion over function, wearing some of the most over-the-top pieces imaginable (like sequin bras, snakeskin mini skirts and furry coats). And the price tags are even harder to believe.
We spotted some ridiculously expensive sunglasses (#practical), custom bedazzled jackets (it was 90° in Indio, California, over the weekend) and more remarkably pricey pieces that we’re bringing to your attention below.

Filmmaker and hip-hop legend RZA made dreams come true for kung-fu fans on a recent Saturday night by programming a double feature of classic martial arts films “Five Element Ninjas” and “House of Traps” at New York’s Metrograph theater.
The original member of the Wu-Tang Clan made three appearances at the event and introduced the 1982 kung-fu titles, both of which were directed by prolific martial arts film director Cheh Chang and produced by Hong Kong’s legendary production company Shaw Brothers. “Five Element Ninjas” follows a young martial artist seeking revenge against the ninja who killed his teacher and brethren, while “House of Traps” centers on a team of skilled fighters making their way through a house rigged with deadly traps.
Both sold out screenings were packed with kung-fu cinema devotees, many of whom felt compelled to express their love for the genre during a Q&A with RZA,...

On February 15th, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj will both be returning to the Grammys — and both will be vying to take home their first trophy. Like Patti Smith (one nomination), Nas (11) and Snoop Dogg (17), neither has won a gramophone of his or her own. Here's a rundown of the pop stars, punk icons and rock geniuses whose work has never been recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

The Man With The Iron Fists didn't quite kick off Rza's directing career in the way he might have hoped (a single Dtv sequel directed by Death Race 2's Roel Reine is all we've seen so far of the intended massive franchise) but it also has harmed him in the long run. He's just finished behind the cameras with the hip-hop drama Coco, and he'll now move straight on to action thriller Breakout.Rza made Coco for Iron Fists studio Lionsgate, but Breakout is for Amasia, with whom he's also just worked as an actor on Mr Right. Breakout involves a photographer wrongfully imprisoned in Bangladesh for drug trafficking, whose father ropes in two old friends to find the truth and secure his release by any means necessary.Richard D'Ovidio (The Forger, The Call) wrote the screenplay, in cahoots with his regular collaborator (and wife) Nicole D'Ovidio.
