The first "Halo" video game, "Halo: Combat Evolved," was released in 2001 and its lore was so involved and complicated, it was accompanied by the publication of Eric Nylud's novel "Halo: The Fall of Reach." The plot reaches back into ancient times where it involves wars between long-forgotten alien species, then reaches into the year 2525 where elite supersoldiers, part of the Spartan II project, keep the peace. The game's action surrounds the invasion of a new alien species called the Covenant, a race waging a galaxy-wide holy war. The main character is Master Chief John-177, a masked Spartan equipped with high-tech guns and a holographic helper/girlfriend named Cortana.
"Halo" has been a mainstay in the medium ever since, having spawned multiple sequels in 2004, 2007, 2012, and most recently in 2021. The excitement is building for ‘Halo‘ season 2, and the new trailer from Paramount Plus has just upped the ante. Set to premiere on February 8th on Paramount Plus, the upcoming season promises to dive deep into the Halo universe, focusing on the critical planet Reach.
In this trailer, we’re immediately thrown into the thick of things. It opens with a voiceover, possibly from Makee (played by Charlie Murphy), who’s become a key figure in the series as Master Chief’s girlfriend. Her words are chilling, hinting at a dark future for Reach. She declares her intention to be ‘the instrument of their extinction,’ setting a grave tone for the season.
Master Chief, portrayed by Pablo Schreiber, faces overwhelming odds against the Covenant elites. The visuals are striking, showing the stark reality of the conflict. We also see Kai-125, played by Kate Kennedy, watching in despair as Covenant orbital strikes decimate Unsc ships.

"Halo" is a story about a super soldier known as Master Chief (aka John-117) who fights aliens in space over ancient technology. You might think from the description that it's a story you've seen many times before. Certainly, "Halo" wears its influences on its sleeve. But don't underestimate the world of the games, which has thus far been the subject of over 30 novels, several comics, and one season of a live-action television show. Bungie cut their teeth directing the "Marathon" trilogy of narratively ambitious first-person shooters. "Halo" was targeted at a wider audience, but its developers still took the time to flesh out the game's setting. Rather than the heavy metal mishmash of "Doom" and its ilk, this would be a world of alien religious sects, military jargon, and Gregorian chanting.

Animated film Halo: The Fall Of Reach is available to buy today, according to a post on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire blog. If the name sounds familiar, that’s probably because it’s a direct adaptation of the novel of the same name, written Eric Nylund.
Just like its inspiration, Microsoft says the film “explores the dramatic origins and intrigue behind the Spartan program” and “reveals the events that brought Master Chief and Blue Team together.”
See the official announcement below for more:
Starting today, the animated feature, Halo: The Fall of Reach, is available on Blu-ray, DVD and various video on demand (VOD) providers, such as the Halo Channel, Microsoft Movies & TV, iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play, and more.
Adapted from the beloved Eric Nylund novel of the same name, this animated feature explores the dramatic origins and intrigue behind the Spartan program that propelled characters like the Master Chief and Dr.
