Daft But Enjoyable!
carloswilliamhughes2 April 2020
Bjorn Kjellman plays the hapless and luckless Goran Borg with a lot of heart as he loses his job, is on hand to see his wife happily re-married and enjoying her life with a younger man and his daughter has no time for him.

All roads lead to an adventure of a lifetime to India - his friend who convinces him to buy a place on his package tour soon deserts him but Goran ends up falling in love with India and a mysterious beauty - helped along by his new buddy 'Yogi'.

It's daft and unrealistic but really good value - Kjellman plays the downtrodden everyman to perfection who leaves his hometown of Malmo for the first time to find a wider world out there, some of it he doesn't like what he sees but still finds his happiness.

I watched this on Netflix - three, hour long episodes - you can fit it all in within an enjoyable evenings entertainment.

NB: Even though it is for a Swedish audience, most of the series is in English! If you're one of those who doesn't 'like' subtitles, well, you're in luck!

I Was Captivated

Warning: Spoilers
After seeing Bjorn Kjellman in a couple other movies, I like him. Here and in "I Love You", he's just so super nerdy. There are gaps in the script and cultural things that I don't understand, but it did not stop me for enjoying this 3 part mini series. As the program progressed, he came out of his shell more and more. He went on an adventure that he wouldn't normally go on, got over his ex wife (although I can see why she would have left), fell in love with a lovely Indian woman (I think that she was so unhappy in her marriage, she was an ornament for her wealthy husband), fell in love with a country and culture that was so foreign to him, being from Sweden and finally, began to like and respect himself and not think of himself as a loser as so many other people did. The Indian man who befriended him, Joy Sengupta, was so much fun to watch. It's too bad more people don't have his character's outlook on life. I recommend this mini series.

Silly and ridiculous, this series nevertheless charms and eventually wins over
msghall25 February 2020
The lead character is ridiculously caricatured and at times you just want to shake the silliness out of him but in the end the cartoon nature of this series takes on a more subtle satirical bent and begins to shine. The show definitely requires a suspension of disbelief and patience that will reward if you don't expect too much. The background music, incorporating western and Indian instrumentation, based on John Lennon's "Imagine," gives the proceedings the perfect accompaniment. Overall a pleasant, if at times superficial, diversion.

Oh, dear

Warning: Spoilers
Oh, dear! What a drivel. The story line, the acting, EVERYTHING is so pretentious and fake. A beautiful and rich woman from India "falls" for a balding Swedish loser? Give me a break. Do they even "sleep around" in India? Everyone speaks perfect formal English, including a former child-slave?
