Clever Enough
muntasirhas8 April 2020
Director Jennifer Hulum let her great cast booze up with those versatile characters, partly because of this sharp-witted screenplay written by great writers. The setting also gives a lavish presentation to the surroundings. With an eloquent combination of cinematography and editing, while the movie couldn't claim to be a classic mystery, it is a complacent, laid back and enjoyable entertainment, that's clever enough to keep you guessing until the end.

Such a funny movie!
jehjeh371126 May 2022
I can't understand the reviews I'm seeing here. This movie is hysterical because it's soooo bad! The dialogue is ridiculous. The actors are stiff and uncomfortable. It's so bad it's funny. For the first five minutes I thought it was a comedy.

Can't please everyone
Jav196931 March 2020
No film is made for everyone, even the greatest film like Titanic, it has 24,557 voters gave it "1". Really? Seriously? So the good film doesn't have to please everyone, but you've got to stick to a few things: A good premise, for example, it would draw people's attention in the first place. This film's premise is about the will reading lagging for 10 years with the condition of the daughter gone missing. Pretty good, huh? But there are a lot of films with a good premise, so I wouldn't be so fancy for it, rather give it 7 and continue my journey... Usually writing a good suspense movie is hard, you need a lot of planning because it builds the case upon the information given in the early time. In this film, such as Nadia's memory loss, the party photos used to solve the murder, checking necklace authenticity to verify the horrific truth... there are stuff implanted precisely but really depend on your own perception, if you're a good mind-hunter and paying attention for details, then you would find it more appreciated, otherwise it's a waste because everything planted is just subtle. But I like it being subtle. So I think it deserves 9. People might agree with me that the ending can either lift you up or smash you down. I understand that the climax and the ending should be separated because some film may have a super climax but fails flat at the end. But I think this film has done reasonably well because the surprises and puzzles are finally tied together as a whole for a solid resolution, so it's worth 9 in my opinion. For the rest of it, such as casting/performance, camera/lighting/sets, editing/sound/music, they are all fair enough even though there are some roughness along the way, nevertheless considering this kind of budget, I would be happy to make it average in 8. Hope you enjoy the film like I did.

Don't bother, this is dreadful
katcocat15 November 2019
I can only presume the other reviews were written by the directors friends. There is nothing original about this film. There's nothing good about this film. Some of the actors make a valiant attempt but it's let down by bad direction, bad editing and a strange decision to dumb down every scene so that there's a full explanation for the stupid. Comparing it to an Agatha Christie plot is just wishful thinking. It's quite obvious who the killer is from early in the film. Honestly, don't waste your time. You'll never get it back. This review is written by someone who doesn't know anyone connected with the film,

Get a life or watch the goddam film
pradeep3357 April 2020
Just found two identical bad reviews (as low as 1). Are those 2 reviews from same person??? The comments written in these 2 reviews has nothing more than an attack. Whoever is this, please - you can't treat a film like a personal matter if you hate someone there. Film is a team effort. So listen up, people! Please skip those reviews and don't let this negative energy lock you down. You deserve better - Go get a life or watch the goddam film. You don't have to like this film but write something significant. This film has a lot of awards and got to have something than "nothing". I think it's a great film, specially the storyline is super intelligent. But I found some repetitive information in the early half of the film, I would prefer to cut the film 8-10 minutes shorter. I think this film has huge potential so I would be happy to see a big studio to remake with super stars. Must be a hit.

A box of chocolates
graciellalee16 April 2020
Brew slow but jaw-dropping with an unexpected climax as you really get the moment of "Oh my!" While the movie with the characters is ultimately driven by greed, dangerously played between life and death, there is an intense atmosphere of dread and stress throughout, sown wonders of how the tragedy can really last so long, of all resulted in a terrifying conclusion. The final twist in the last act is "like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get" (Forrest Gump). But the story does not intentionally offer the ferocity alone, but more to a package designed to stir the senses through a powerful storyline along with beautiful sentimental musical score that would make you feel nothing but a heartwarming experience. Technical works including performance are well integrated. Time will tell - this movie is going to be one of the best!

Great for a community theater production but not a movie
jmbovan-47-16017321 October 2020
This is a standard copy of a mystery: remote setting, rich family with the patriarch deceased, reading of the will, uncovering a murderer, and a new murder. Then, the production values impact any suspense as this is a poorly staged film in someone's house. The storyline is full of poorly executed red herrings, flimsy accusations, and tired rebuttals. But, the biggest problem with the film is the acting. There are pauses before the next actor reads his/her lines, regardless of the intensity of the response. For example (not directly from the film), "You were the one that was with her last! You must be the killer!" Pause as camera shifts to the accused person. He/She sets to deliver the line, finding the camera, and setting the appropriate facial expression. "No, I'm not." The actors seem to perform based upon cue card direction: (Looking exasperated and sounding angry). The script itself is heavy with poorly constructed interactions, and rather lame dialogue. "I'm tired of this procedure as if you are wasting my time." Another actor responds, "Yes, I feel like you are wasting my time too." What?! That's the response? "Me too, I feel the same."?!

I'm amazed that anyone actually enjoyed this film and these highly rated reviews I'm guessing are from people who are involved with the production or family and friends of the production. So take these with the same level of a parent reviewing a high school play production. Decent high school production maybe, but this is not acted or written to be a serious murder mystery. Or a serious film. Every one seems earnest in their efforts, and I see the work that they are trying to do. And that's part of the problem: you see them trying. You seem them emoting. You hear them acting in their lines. And nothing brings down a film more than a dull plotline with actors that seem to be reading the stage directions for their acting motivation, and hitting their marks to deliver their lines, waiting for the other actor to finish and the camera to reset on to them.

Horrible. Abysmal
boraisyar11 February 2021
Acting is so bad I spent the entire movie laughing. The twist director's friends who reviewed the movie are talking about isn't a twist - you guess the ending by 15th minute. The dialogues are so fake they make you cringe. Don't believe the positive reviews! This is possibly the worst movie I've watched in my entire life!

All reviews above 1 star were written by actors and director's parents
fabiohorta15 August 2021
Just check. All 10 star reviews were written by people that just have one imdb review... one of the actors? Or the director herself...

I cant say this is the worst movie ever because this is not even a movie.

A movie need actors, a plot and a director. It has none...

Trust me, if you try to watch this garbage you will lose 2 hours of your life...

A small gup
grace-octaviano16 April 2020
A remarkable mystery allows both the characters and the viewers to come to such a completely logical conclusion about the murder/murders that you will wonder of how you could have possibly missed the clues the first time - for example, the party photo. A great story with great cast. A good camera work combined with other part of endeavors... But there are minor "rough" cuts specially towards the end. 9/10 for my generosity.

really, Really, REALLY BAD!
spikehed-9215221 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Presumably, they are going for a noir thriller/mystery, a la Knives Out. Unfortunately, in this version, the plot is convoluted, the acting awful, the pacing slower than molasses, and the dialogue infuriatingly deliberate. It's a relatively long watch at 1h 55m, and every single second of it goes by excruciatingly slowly. There is zero character development, other than the deceased man's missing daughter, I have no idea who these people are (in relation to the dead man). While it plays itself as serious drama, this is really just low quality, free streaming fodder at its worst, like so many other poorly conceived time wasters.

A mystery drama over a thriller
nhossain-1597129 April 2020
The family lawyer plays a smooth and moderate host to great effect, and the rest of the group is also believable - they have so much fun when interact with each other in the room - I really enjoy some of the wise and humorous dialogues. I think the locations are all natural and beautiful. The story has a strong backbone with different timeframes told through flashbacks, all of which can get you very emotional. Regardless of number of death, I prefer it defined as a mystery drama over a thriller. If you're a type of essential horror flicks lovers, then perhaps this is not for you.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, oh. Is it over yet?!
I love "whodunnits" - real mysteries...But I hate long drawn out ones with poor acting by 90% of the cast. Seriously, the plot was believable but the unraveling of it was a sheer experience in attempting to stay awake as it was very redundant and b o r i n g if not full of mis-steps. Again, the acting was the worst and certainly pulled the plot down to the ground as a poorly constructed mysterey.

A Surprised Debut
jeanagarcia-0169329 April 2020
I'm surprised that this is a debut movie. The deliberately captivated storyline, the truly unforgettable characters, the spirally twisted suspense, the consistently enticing pace, and the well-crafted narration are all exceptionally fantastic!

Yes, this is BAD
wrigco8 September 2023
Is this some sort of South American dubbed movie? Because that's what it looks like, one of those dreadful soap operas with appalling overacting and stilted dialogue.

Hard to write an objective review of this after seeing all those 9 and 10 star reviews surely all from family and friends of the cast and crew with flowery sentences praising everything like they were all in it.

"You can trust me, I'm a Psychologist". Puhleeze.

Still, i stuck with it, shame - everyone wants to make a movie : but that doesn't mean it should be inflicted on the rest of us. Sorry to be so harsh, but really - this just looked like a school stage production.

"Half and half" turn subjective POV "authentic"
kenneth_backwell29 April 2020
There are many good things about this movie. But the most brilliant part is where some scenes are "cut" half-and-half: one half from an objective perspective and the other half from a subjective perspective. A good example is when two guys talk "physically" in their private room first, then in the later half is only from the lawyer's vision. Since these two parts follow the same logic under same condition, you wouldn't even notice the difference when it goes on as one continuous plot - which makes the subjective point of view convincingly believable. Overall, 7/10 from my opinion, but adding this mastery up, I would give it one more clap.

Not for everyone
tarikraihan29 April 2020
Although this murder mystery is cleverly written, shot and performed, all the scenes and dialogues are wisely calculated, I wouldn't recommend it to those who straightly look for a thriller with busy actions and lousy murders - this is just not that kind.

Good potential director
angelina-7322016 April 2020
Jennifer Hulum shows great potential as a rising director because of her unique visual storytelling that is intertwined back and forth from different times with preconceived shots. She also makes me sit up when she could handle the situation where a lot of characters are talking in the same room. Of this kind of setting is most difficult for any new or old director and such synergies remind me about 1957 classic movie "12 Angry Men". It's also a deft decision to use floating camera (Jack Schaefer) that makes the scenes and talks more efficient and interesting. However, in my opinion, the first half could have been shortened a bit. I understand it's a strenuous task because the story has multiple timelines with a big number of characters. But stressing some tedious moments would only become distracted. But still, the direction is way above average. With her squad, she's successfully delivered the film in a very convincing way.

What if this made by all stars
lampros-4229429 March 2020
I can only imagine if this movie made by some big kahunas, then, should turn out to be a hit. Not because of just having an interesting storyline but it carries on and implemented plots logically from scene to scene, specially going back and forth from present to flashback and such. This must be involved in writing and directing as they seem planned coherently well. Besides of nice camera work and editing, all the characters are portrayed by those who have not yet made their names big, the film still has great power to draw you in, keeping you captivated from head to toe. Maybe there is a little moment of awkwardness, but their overall performance is pretty convincible. As a matter of fact, I consider the casting is quite fit if you don't care about the names and fame. Let me give you a little hint, but not a whole lot to spoiler: An old man dies. His adopted daughter is gone missing before he dies. 10 years after, relatives called up for will reading in the reclusive cabin, but his daughter doesn't show up - this may be expected. The attendees take a ballot to vote and all agree the daughter is dead already so they can move on for the will reading in hope each one of them would get a piece of pie. But why they all wish her die? Is that because of the money alone or is her killer among them? Surprisedly, that's not all. Her death may be expected, but a shocking surprise is something else. Usually suspense movie is a tough nut, specially the ending - it's too easy to be screwed. I hate to watch a movie with a promised beginning but fails me with the bad ending. But this movie's ending is just right.

Some memory is best forgotten
momoplace3 April 2020
Nadia is a tragic hero. She is the rich man's granddaughter. Her mother's gone missing when she was young. She suffers amnesia from the past. I like her character. She is so unfortunate, complicated and mature yet innocent and fragile. It's very rare you would find a teenage role like this combination. - most teen roles are pretty rough, determined and superficial. But Nadia is quite different. She doesn't have a huge part, but the way of the character makes her stand out and plus she's the key person to solve the mystery. Actress Shelby Lyon plays her role well so as the younger version, Kaitlyn McCormick... Beside I enjoy the entire film: right pace, right emotion with the music well-orchestrated for the entire film. Really entertaining!

Savvy scripted
pf-jeffreyjones30 April 2020
The movie contains many witty snubs - there is one scene wherein Stacey, the rich man's sister who always quarrels with her sly nephew Charlie, claims, "He's my brother", then Charlie replies, "I'm blood, too". There are many witty remarks like that, but I'm not going to spoil it here. Nonetheless, I enjoyed very much with their humorous talks, but they can be serious too, when the murder takes place. Intriguing story with classy writing style. Highly recommend this to those who especially enjoy smart jokes and a clever mystery.
