a 2 just for the effort
co-563-61498619 April 2018
This is realy bad, bad effects, bad acting and the filming is done by a monkey or a drunk cameramen. I had to write this to let others know to be aware. because a 6,5 rating is obvious a troll rating.

Not too bad for a low budget film, I get the whole wobbly camera thing. Effects were not too bad for the budget. Biggest thing was the acting. Way to forced and not natural at all which unfortunately makes the whole movie below par. With what I understand they used real X soldiers for some of the roles. Been in the army and if they were real soldiers, I'll go it. Better acting could have made this low budget a hell of a lot better. Love seeing Aussies giving it a crack, but this is not winning any awards soon, certainly not for acting anyway.

Not as bad as it seems
duckman_0798 March 2021
For a zombie movie, the storyline is pretty good. Some of the acting is decent as well, some is pretty bad. Had this been made with a much better flow with smoother transitions, less verbose speeches, camera angles that make more sense instead of looking like a home movie, it might get up to a 6 or 7 rating. At one point, there was a long speech by a main character with the left hand side of the screen obscured by some guy's head. The actor reciting the speech didn't do a bad job of it, but the dialog was overdone and a long speech at that time was uncalled for. There were a few really good ideas in the movie that gone to waste since the film could have been refined into something much better.

It's a NO NO...

Bad acting, shaky camera, bad editing, bad special effects... It's a low budget disaster. It's not worth your time. Just leave it alone and rewatch the remake of Dawn of the Dead instead.

An Honest Review!
lut_e_lut12 May 2018
1st of all I commend Leigh for having a go directing and staring in any film this is a huge achievement in ones self. Considering this is his first big film its a credit to him for trying. I agree and disagree with some of the other reviews. First of all to say that this film is unwatchable and i turned it off after 5mins is complete and other horse crap, I sat through the entire film with ease. I see where they were going with the whole handheld shakey feel and approach but this needs to be done in such away that doesn't distract and turn away viewers one thing I learnt when making my film "The Count" which does have a similar handheld style feel. I wish that I would of shown my actors how to use the camera properly before we started. Lesson learnt, ..and you do learn such things while making films something in which I don't think a lot of these reviewers fully understand on the mechanics behind making a film they are a bit to quick to judge I think. Acting was off and some/almost most of it felt forced, there were some good bits but a lot of cringe worthy robotic feels going on. Sound design def needed to be re-worked some of the audio that I heard while watching was off and not smooth this is so dam important to get right, if you nail the sound and music the footage follows, I felt at times I couldn't be immersed because the sound through me out of whack. Some of the effects where pretty cool. Makeup wasn't to bad but not over-ally great. Overall I gave this film a (4/10) for trying. Well done to everyone involved and keep trying ;)

Nothing but close-up shots
cdnkelly18 April 2020
Guess the director never saw a good movie before. Nothing but close-up shots of the actors faces while they are talking. Couldn't make it thru the first 20 minutes, then fast forward to see if there was anything better than the close-ups, Nope.

Camera Work Ruined This Film
aslan-937-28376422 April 2018
I was prepared to give this film a go, as I don't mind a good low-budget zombie movie now and again, but I couldn't get past the horrible camera work. I can handle unintentional shakiness, but this was like it was done on purpose, and BADLY. I had to shut the film off after 5 minutes.Too bad really.

Disappointed
dustmite-7933917 May 2018
I was really excited for this movie but was very disappointed when I finally watched it.

The shaky camera made me really dizzy and people's heads were cut off. I had to shut my eyes quite a bit during this movie, especially at the start as the camera was moving way too fast and was all over the place.

I was confused with the story line as it didn't make a lot of sense. There wasn't really any character development and just jumped from one person to the next, without knowing who they were. The lead guy of the group they met, acting was way over the top and forced and it showed he wasn't a very good actor.

I think in future they need to take a step back from their movie and have someone else take a look at it and give them professional advice. Sometimes when you're too close to something you don't see the faults.

I admire their passion for the filming and this moving but I'm hoping this honest feedback helps them for their future movies.

SAVE YOURSELF
er-5009 May 2018
Save yourself the time and avoid this movie like a zombie plague. For some reason the director thought using a shaky handheld camera was a good idea, its NOT, and with nothing new to add to a dying genre this film is the same old same old but with very bad acting.

TRASH
jamelwhite-8005010 March 2021
I only watched 10 minutes . That's because the director hired his drunk cousin the film this mess . The shaky camera is annoying . Where is the editing ? The camera is pointed. at the actors feet' then suddenly pans up to their head .I haven't seen this many leaning angles since Battlefield Earth.

Hundreds of Zombies
The_Professor_Scary12 November 2021
A feature length Australian Zombie movie, that tells the tale of a zombie outbreak. An army unit is sent in to a refugee camp in Victoria. It all goes wrong when a zombie outbreak erupts in the campaign, which escalates. Jumping forward one year, and survivors struggle to remain alive.

The story follows the usual zombie plots, which some nice twists. The acting was relative average, except for the character of Mr Bennett, which was outstanding.

With many zombie movies, there are usually not enough zombies, but with The Last Hope, there are so many zombies - they are everywhere. It seems like that there are hundreds of zombie - well done.

The movie ends in a way to leave it open to a sequel.

WANTING MORE!

Warning: Spoilers
I agree that camera work was a little shakey to begin with, but does level out. Actually really liked this movie, but would've liked the back story at the beginning, so i could connect with the character's better. But otherwise fantastic effort, and loved the effects for the budget it was on. Great Work Leigh Ormsby.

Should be zero stars
mesoinvisible7 March 2021
This is unwatchable bad. And should be rated zero stars. Do yourself a favor, listen to the reviews, and avoid this complete and utter waste of time. It breaks my heart that they were even able to raise money for this. I've seen high school projects with better writing and execution. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

The Last Hope
pggah-1977610 May 2018
The Last Hope is more than just a movie to us who are in it. It is a movie which has inspired many to get into acting, film making and develop passions and skills in so many areas. It may not be perfect, but it's still enjoyable. It has a great storyline, it's fun and it's combined so many people together. We here in Australia need to support each other's projects not be determined to slaughter anyone who tries something new. GO THE LAST HOPE. GO LEIGH and GLENN who inspired so many to get out of their comfort zones. You guys truly rock.

Exciting and Unpredictable
Crankgorilla13 June 2018
I just watched this and came to have a look at the reviews. This is sitting a 2.7 currently and it is far better than that. It's not a huge budget film but people reviewing here are obviously comparing it to one, which makes them stupid people. I have watched a lot of films and this is getting a 6/10 with an extra point to shove it up the idiots who gave it one star 7/10.

You'll enjoy this film if you like the zombie genre and understand the difference between a high budget film and a low budget film.

Acting is choppy and the editing is inspiringly bad
terasamay25 May 2018
Bad film, even by indie standard- The last hope is an exercise in how to not make an indie film. The camera is rarely still, the acting is choppy and the editing is inspiringly bad. Special effects are so- so considering the budget. (Must miss)
