Shades of Blue in a Nutshell
brooks2503 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This crazy, anything-goes, season finale showcases why I like this ridiculous show: It's just a lot of fun to watch. Turn off your brain and enjoy the soap opera-- This is not a slow burn, Dickensian, quasi-documentary like The Wire. This season finale brings all the craziness of season 2 to the boiling point. We finally get to see a scantily glad Jlo alone with her slobbering, stalker and nemesis, agent Stahl. The sexual tension, not to mention J-Lo's rockin' bod, is milked to the max. Then Wozniack runs into a season ending cliff hanger that is straight out of The Wire: recall the legendary Omar's humbling and fatal encounter with a "rug rat" in a convenience store. Shades... from day one has been a network version of The Shield. This season in addition to the Internal Affairs guy (remember Lt. Cavanaugh) in hot pursuit, the writers even throw in a blackmail box, again, courtesy of The Shield. So I guess I'm saying if you like this show, you'll love the Shield. What makes this one so much fun are the performances of Lopez and Liotta who don't hold back. They are committed to telling this outlandish story and the 45 minutes (always watch on- demand) flies by.

Warning: Spoilers
The last thing I binged before this was the wire and it was interesting that the other reviewer pointed out the clear opposites and similarity(in a very small way). The wire is well written and very slow and it has disappointed me with many things that happened to the 'good guy and gal' characters.

Stahl was the good guy and the writers pretty much eat away his goodness piece by piece. I know shows are written to favor the main actor/s or actress/es but why would anyone believe Harlee and Wozniak two people that have been 'pick up' by the FBI? They know they are dirty. Why feed them information? Why allow them to still carry duties in regards to rescuing Harlee?

I'm guessing this ends in Stahl being killed or arrested for kidnapping. Him being killed seems more logical because he could counter the calms they made against him. Overall this is ridiculous and no sane law enforcement officer FBI or City police would allow the garbage crew to operate.

It's even more ridiculous when Gail gives information to Wozniak. What about some loyalty to your fellow agent who told you that Harlee is a murderer. I'm on the side of the good guys in real life so even when a show is written for me to likes the bad guys it can be hard. I was at war with myself while watching The Sopranos but strangely never The Blacklist.
