Amazing Analysis without Catastrophizing
raynerpkm26 June 2019
This episode was one of the best yet. From both sides of the political spectrum there is mass misunderstanding and general lack of correct information. We hear about climate change all the time and the things we can do to help. But lately, things are getting worse. While those on one side may completely ignore the facts, the other presents it in such a way that makes life seem hopeless and ultimately not worth living. This episode those a grand job of showing the facts, history and synthesizing it in a way where it gives people hope. The last 5 minutes especially were so refreshing to watch as a hopeful inspiring message of what we can all do to help. I would reccomend this episode to anyone; regardless of political affiliation just because it presents the information in an honest, yet hopeful way.

Far Below Par

I usually enjoy watching the episodes of Adam Ruins Everything, but this episode fell far, far below the standards set by the previous episodes in the series. Not that I'm a Green fanatic (far from it), but the episode was riddled with logical flaws and questionable assumptions. As just one example, Adam claims that walking to lunch is worse for the environment than driving because the carbon produced in making a cheeseburger is more than produced by driving. (Because the carbon cost of beef is so high.) But if you walk and eat the same lunch, then you are obviously producing less carbon. And if you eat more food to make up for the calories expended during your walk, then let's count just the carbon used to produce those calories. And if you eat a large fries instead of a medium fries (to make up those calories), then the carbon footprint is very small. Probably a lot smaller than driving to lunch.

The episode was full of really great points and information, and they get tossed around with so much nonsense that it ruined the whole episode for me. :(

Adam Ruins Adam Ruins Everything

Warning: Spoilers
This episode started off well, but then Adam started reaching way too much once he ran out of things to say.

We shouldn't walk because the food you eat to fuel your walk has a massive carbon footprint. We would not skip the meal if we drove so ue should just compare walking as an alternative to driving. He also argues that you should not get rid of your car just to get an electric car. This is strawmanning. Nobody is getting rid of theirncar just to get an electric car, but after deciding to get a car people are deciding whether to get an electric car or a conventional car. The whole second segment is full of these.

Very possibly the worst lie ever perpetuated by this show

Adam was likely paid by the fossil fuels industry to make this episode. We'll never know.

The EPA's emissions calculator clearly shows that even in coal heavy West Virginia, EVs generate less than half the emissions of ICE cars. Do not waste your time with this lying creep.
