It's time to give Travis Fimmel an Emmy, Oscar, Golden Globe or something.
bola_de_pu11 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had me in tears since the moment I realized that this will the final chapter of Ragnar in our lives. Love the flashback images of Ragnar thinking in all the important moments and people in his crossing and had me thinking of the time that has passed since this magnificent show start and the development of the principal characters. Probably this is one of the saddest deaths in TV shows and the sequence when all the snakes we're biting him was magnificent, and I see a lot of TV shows, and Travis Fimmel was superb, that's all. The only bad thing, and I hate that, is that Travis put one of the best performances of a character ever in television history but don't even get a nomination for something. That's a disappointment, but in my heart he won all the academy awards. Long live to Ragnar Lothbrok.

End of the reign of Ragnar Lothbrok
micajelicic31 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A must see! Ragnar who gave up his faith and the Gods, knowing that the man himself shapes his own destiny and not the gods. An amazing episode with a magnificent death of King Ragnar Lothbrok. A death that will be sung in songs and retold for centuries. Incredible acting by Travis Fimmel, his "sons" have big shoes to fill. Now comes the time for Ivar the boneless who will seek revenge for the death of his parents. Both of them. I can not wait to the end of the break and to see the rule of one of the most ruthless Viking leaders. It will also be interesting to see what will happen with Ragnars first born son Bjorn. I expect that he will also play a major role in the continuing saga of the Vikings.

When an actor gives his heart and soul
suzexf-128 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An incomparable performance by Travis Fimmel. Ragnar's final soliloquy and death throes were a testament to Fimmel's talent. Why this performance has not been formally recognized is unbelievable. Hard to imagine the show without this formidable presence.

An explosive episode moving this historical series in a completely new direction
Ed-Shullivan20 April 2018
It would not make sense for viewers to watch this explosive episode without having an in depth understanding of the first four seasons episodes that preceded episode 15 of season 4. The one character who epitomizes the series "Vikings" is by this particular exciting episode referred to as King Ragnar Lothbrook, played brilliantly by actor Travis Fimmel.

Now King Ragnor Lothbrook fears no man, no sea, nor any predicament that he may find himself somewhat uncomfortable within because he has shown an incredible ability to outthink all of his adversaries, overcome any and all obstacles and to lead his brave vikings to victory after victory across oceans and the continents. Ragnar has many young sons and his oldest son Bjorn Lothbrok played by Alexander Ludwig was a sponge soaking up all of his father and his King's brilliant battle strategies, determining when to strike and when not to strike. Ragnar and his son Bjorn shared many battles fighting shoulder to shoulder as well as many meals and father and son conversations.

Ragnar's true loves were his sons, his wives, his mistresses and of course his fellow vikings and his battle ships that were built by his most loyal follower Floki, played by Gustaf Skarsgård. The series has been developed with an eye for attempting to be historically accurate so you could read up on who King Ragnar Lothbrook was, when he lived, and who his descendants were. Or rather you could decide to binge watch the first four seasons of Vikings and pay close attention to season 4, episode 15, titled "All His Angels". This episode could have been released in a mainstream film version format and extended for two hours as I for one did not want this episode to end. It does change the direction of the remainder of the series which I prefer not to divulge anything and allow you to figure out by watching this exciting episode which is one of the most explosive episodes of the entire television series.

It is worthy of a perfect 10 out of 10 rating.

the great RagnaR
amz-armin718 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A masterclass. It was one of the best episode I have ever watched in any tv series. I can't describe it in words. the moment ragnar remembers his important memories. the moment he rise and go back into his cage. the moment he stand in his cage and says his last words... ragnar questioned everything. his believe in gods one of them. have you ever questioned your believes? It's a hard move. we all can see ourselves in ragnar. and maybe some day, when we reach his understandings. we will question our believes too...

Great episode! but it was so sad how such a great character died. The time when Ragnar remembered his family before his death was so sadly terrific.

Fantastic and sad
eulchen54 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ragnar Lothbrok is dead. Of course this day was coming but what an end he had. No, Ragnar was not only a likable character, he had bad sides for sure. In his life he was selfish, partly cruel and ego-driven at some points, and then, of course he was all that because you don't become a leader and king with just being nice and friendly, humans don't work like that, they didn't back then, they still don't today. But Ragnar has gone through a metamorphosis, he questioned everything, especially his faith and in the end came to the result that he doubts the existence of the gods, or any god. He came to understand he wronged people and he apologized to those who deserved and needed it.

It was hard to watch him being tortured by King Aille, and yet it was impressive to see how he would not back down until the very end, no words of apology, and with his final speech, that he hisses and snarls out of his cage, covered in his own blood, he went down like a true Viking.

As I said, I was always impressed by Ragnar, but always aware that he had bad sides, very realistically shown, and that it would have felt wrong for me to just praise him without having those bad sides in mind. Yet, when I saw him die now in this way, and before, him remembering the important things in his life, then seeing Gyda, his daughter, the purest and most innocent soul he brought into life, I started crying. I didn't expect that. His character matured in the end, not without a last mischievous action against Ecbert, who will wake to a surprise when the sons of Ragnar will come for him. I was sad to see Ragnar die now, and deeply impressed how he went out. A fantastic episode, outstanding acting from both Travis Fimmel and Linus Roche, and a death that will be remembered as well as the rest of the legacy of Ragnar Lothbrok.

The Way to Valhalla
TyRell7827 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It's the end for Ragnar Lothbrok but it's the beginning of a new generation for his sons.

This episode was a masterpiece, everything was natural and truthful in it, the tension during the transfer to King Aelle, the final truth of the words from The Seer "You will die on the day that the blind man sees you." and of course, the words from Ragnar "How the little piggies will grunt when they hear how the old boar suffered" and his final speech.

The soundtrack was so beautiful in this episode, I really hope that there will be a release of the songs soon!

One of the greatest episodes and one to never forget.

Thank you to Travis Fimmel for his performance during the whole show.

For Ragnar Lothbrok!

King Ragnar!!
Drea57896 December 2019
One if the saddest episodes I've ever watched and it was so beautifully done. I'm disappointed it took me so long to watch the show but it is a great show. This episode touched my heart. I know King Ranger had a bad side to him, but it was hard to not fall in love with his character. Travis Fimmel was superb in this role. He made you love him, hate him and everything in between. As I continue to watch I miss him, but so enjoy watching his sons follow in his footsteps and create their own legacy!

Ragnar, Ragnar...
tenshi_ippikiookami15 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The end of Ragnar. The show had teased before that Ragnar could die before the end of the show, and here we finally have it. Ragnar is a prisoner, and King Ecbert 'delivers' him to King Aelle so Ragnar and Ecbert's plan to destroy Aelle can come to fruition. Cue King Aelle and his people being mean to Ragnar till the bitter ending.

The acting in the episode is really good, and Fimmel, as always, does a great job as Ragnar, his last moments full of poignancy and acceptance. At the same time, I will probably be in the minority here, but I found the episode quite empty. It is important to give time to salute and say goodbye to Ragnar, but a big part of the episode consists of the 'torture' of Ragnar by King Aelle and his soldiers and it becomes a little bit tiresome.

Solid episode but a little bit stretched thin, it keeps its head above water by the mood and the great acting. And now new paths are in the future of the Vikings...

One of the worst endings ever of a character
marisrucko28 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Building a massive story around this character and letting him experience all of this, disgusting... Building character, showing how he experiences everything in western lands, grain, paper and so much more. Seeing how others live and having his wish of getting a land and settling down. Not settling rivalry with his brother, not fulfilling a lot of promises he made for himself. All of this, for nothing. Starting from the events of the Paris, everything went completely down the hill. I couldn't believe and was unable to watch this episode as it made me disgust of how one of the best characters in TV series was thrown pretty much out of the window.

The Day That The Blind Man Sees You
jorgitofunes23 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Hail, King Ragnar. His journey throughout the series might be one of the best stories ever put to television. He was literally a revolution to his world. He was the Viking that discovered England, he lead the first Viking army to ever attack France and ultimately one of the first atheists. This was definitely the best episode in the entire series, and cleared out that The Seer's prophecies mean nothing and the gods are a man's creation. Concept later ruined by Lagertha's death prophecy and most of Season 5. We can only hope Season 6 ends honoring Ragnar's legacy.

The end of an era
rolandddd2 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The swansong of Ragnar Lothbrok is without doubt the most charismatic of all the characters in the Vikings universe in my opinion.

At least he gets a proper and brutal sendoff, true to the vein of the series. The episode shows the true greatness of a character like Ragnar, and his conviction that man makes his own destiny. His harrowing end also makes a big impression on the watching Ecbert, who himself embarks on an inner journey in this episode.

Ragnar gets a good and proper sendoff where his legendary status is confirmed, while Aelle and even Ecbert look like very small men in comparison. Although Travis's performance is spectacular I would also reserve some praise for Linus Roache, the two men pull off some of the most powerful acting I've seen in the series in their final scenes togheter. The two men talk about life, power and the influence of religion in their lives, and the interplay between them is excellent.

It is no doubt a turning point in this series, as Ragnar's shoes will be very hard to fill for the other characters.

I can't bare it
theknownames3 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what to think. I love this show. I started watching in in 2013 on the history channel. I tried to explain how good this is but no one would listen. I hoped time would get people on board but then this happened and I couldn't bare to keep watching it I saw there is another 1/2 season and now another season entirely! I wish someone could help me process I am still grieving and it's 2020. So now I wanted to start watching where I left off and i am so happy to see how well it's been received, also that it didn't loose its charm that figure episodes are rated well ( not that that is all that matters for me at all ) I am now curious as to how everyone could still like this after Ragnar is killed. This is more of a therapeutic review for myself but I can vouch for my rating since the cinematography, story, characters , acting costuming and fight choreography have all been exceptional

To Valhalla, Ragnar Lothbrok. King Ragnar Lothbrok! King Aelle is a fat and worthless king of all series. But is only great job done by talented actors and actresses! Can't wait till the new release on Netflix!

Almost well done but...
rbittsen3 April 2021
So sad how it ended with Ragnar. Though he never has been a real deep character in all four seasons (like all the other Vikings characters unfortunately mainly due to this too often sloppily and superficial script) his end still truly touched me. I couldn't barely stand the minutes they tortured him. That was so painful to watch and brilliantly acted by Travis Fimmel. Unfortunately again the script ruined it a bit at the end. Why not to closing this episode with the last moment of Ragnar? That would have been so unbelievably effective and so mind-blowing. But instead, cut and new scene in Kattegat. Pointless and exemplary for this show which could be so much better (it's still good though) with another way of directing or script writing.

Too sad to watch
dochito19 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
...final moments of the King...he lived as a King, and left as one...very moving an important chapter. I was moved by the way King Ecbert lost his way, soul and faith. He loved and admired Ragnar, which caused him to question the existence of God himself...he wanted to watch Ragnar in his last moments.... he walked barefoot covered by Athelstan's robe...Linus Roache is an awesome actor.
