small things defining us
Kirpianuscus30 December 2017
At first sigh, a film about technology. or about the future. or about the fight against unfair society. impressive images. confuse story. few characters. in fact, a film about the small, significant things defining us. about heroism, meetings and change of life. about the new and about guides. and about endless life. all so simple, in impressive clothes. a film who could be more than an eccentric show. but usefull

Disapointing
arfdawg-116 January 2018
The Plot. In tomorrow's Tokyo, the technologically-enhanced body of a young mercenary hacker is overrun by a sentient data weapon. Wanted, the parasitic A.I becomes her only ally as she is chased across the city by those seeking to salvage it.

The movie is very claustrophobic. Shot with tight closeups. It LOOKS cool and the costumes are creative, but the story itself is rather pedestrian and boring. This 10 minute short feels like a feature film and you wind up never caring about the main character.

Wires and light in a box

Warning: Spoilers
The name of this film "Breaker" as well as the name of the writer and director Philippe McKie may not sound like it, but this is a Japanese short film from 2017 that runs for slightly under 11 minutes, but yeah well the cast is all Japanese and it is also set in Japan. Science fiction is not new to the country, but all the lights, effects here and the heavy make-up on the protagonist are something out of this world really as far as I can say that as I've never been to the country, even if I found it fascinating for a while already. Generally, I am not a very great fan of the genre, so if you like sci-fi more than I do, then maybe you will appreciate this more than I did, so perhaps go for it. It isn't a bad watch by any means, but I found it very much style over substance. Still it felt lik e a short film that could actually be turned into a full feature movie at some point, not only because of the gigantic awards recognition it received. It's kinda stylish there is no denying and the lead actress does a somewhat decent job given the fact that it is her first performance in a film ever. But yeah, overall, I'd still give it a thumbs-down. Not a drastic one, but I still have to say it is a negative recommendation for me and these 11 minutes might have worked better as part of a full feature film than a stand alone movie. Watch something else instead.
