More misses than hits.
kjjames8117 November 2022
Before watching this movie I had not heard about it or even knew it hat the film was about.

After watching the is movie I now see, as my title says the movie had more misses than hits.

Misses: not near scary enough, I didn't mind someone dressed in a suit for Bigfoot if the movie had been scary but it wasn't.

Next the movie itself, it seemed the film makers didn't know whether this film should be a horror ( the first half ) or an action thriller ( when they entered the facility ).

The acting overall, well that didn't really bother me so much it is just the script needed more work.

The story as it played out, such as how did the bad guys know where the protagonists live?

How could they trust a stranger they found on the internet when the whole town could not be trusted?

The hits: overall the film was enjoyable to a point, switch your brain off and sit back and laugh at how bad the film is.

Overall an okay film, I am giving it a four rating because as bad as it was I did sit down and watch the whole film.

Want a better Bigfoot found footage movie then watch Exists.

Warning: Spoilers
Young women have been going missing in Florida and the police can't solve the case. A journalist named Saraf (Lauren Crandall) is investigating but feels like she's not welcome. She ends up meeting a conspiracy theorist (David E. McMahon) who believes that the Wild Man of the swamps is behind it all. Her crew thinks he's crazy but as they get closer and deeper into the swamp, he may be totally right.

Look, I'll watch any Bigfoot movies and I'm more than excited that this movie has a skunk ape in it, which gets way more into the subspecies of the Bigfoot family tree, if you will. Throw in Michael Pare and you knew I was going to check this one out. I also love that this turns into a conspiracy movie where the government is behind all of this. The imagination of this film outdoes its budget and that's something I love to see.

What the fu...?

Warning: Spoilers
What the Hell was this? This movie was so bad that I thought that it was a spoof on found footage Bigfoot movies. Michael Pare must be absolutely desperate for work to have agreed to be in this turd. This movie takes itself do serious that it's unintentionally hilarious.

The creature, the "Skunk Ape" kills people left and right, but the soldiers charged with tracking it down and containing it are repeatedly ordered not to kill it even as it is running amok killing everyone in sight. It is only AFTER the creature kills almost everyone in the "secret facility" that the commander (Michael Pare) issues the shoot to kill order.

The plot is irretrievably stupid, as is the dialogue. As viewers, we're supposed to suspend our disbelief, but this movie is so bad and so stupid that it sunders the elasticity of incredulity. This movie tries to come across like an episode of "The X Files" but it ends up looking like " The Keystone Kops". I want to find the people responsible for producing this dreck and kick the living crap out of them.

Low Budget Garbage
pdbordelon16 October 2022
I tried this movie out seeing as it had a relatively high IMDB rating score of 5.7. I guess the producers and actors (and I use that term generously) are the ones giving this mess of a movie the high ratings. Everything in this movie is "budget". At times it comes off as a poor man's Blair Witch Project (but with a man in a very bad and obvious ape suit rather than a witch). The acting is abysmal, the music sounds like it was done by a kindergartener, and the story is so predictable. All of the characters are unlikeable and I was rooting for the swamp ape to kill them all but then it was evident that the swamp ape was even worse as an actor. Dont waste your time on this one. Just like Bigfoot himself, a good Bigfoot movie is very elusive.

Totally fun to watch!

Loved the lead actress and hope to see her in future films! I enjoyed the unusual storyline and the offbeat characters in the film. I live in the Pacific Northwest and am a fan of all Bigfoot-related films. All in all, this was a very watchable movie!

A generally fun creature feature
kannibalcorpsegrinder7 October 2021
Desperate to prove the creatures' existence, a group of documentary filmmakers heads out into the Florida Everglades to prove the existence of the Skunk Ape in the area, but when they stumble across the truth behind the creature realize there's something far more sinister than they expected as the source.

Overall, this was a pretty solid and enjoyable effort. One of the better factors involved here is the strong setup that gives this one a strong start. With the initial documentary approach that announces the history of the creature, the connection with the residents in town, and their desire to head off to film nicely in getting the main story set up rather quickly. With their documentary approach focusing on the investigation of the locals and the information gleaned from these scenes, the film comes off pretty well as the group going through town being intimidated into leaving or confronting crazed locals offering bizarre and over-the-top explanations for the most simplistic of events creates a nice start to things. Once the group hits the woods trying to follow through with their expedition, this one has plenty to like about it with the collection of scenes out in the middle of the woods hiking through the underbrush or getting a chance to lay their guards down to catch up on the different personalities involved. The few instances of finding something out there with the animal growling in the distance, the craziness of the trap being sprung, and then the twist involving the government agents being involved that leads to the somewhat enjoyable finale featuring them sneaking onto a military base to complete their mission. While the general action in the finale is fun in principal with the creature rampaging and running loose that makes for a fun time here, these are what hold this up overall. There are some issues with this one. The biggest drawback to the film is the utterly bizarre notion of the group going through the series of intimidation tactics and break-ins that are supposed to drive them away not doing much to advance the story. While the group rightfully decides to press on in the face of the adversity, the central idea present here doesn't do the film any favors with the need for including it over the interactions with the creature. With no logical reason for forsaking the police to investigate the events beyond hear-say and just going forward with the investigation is somewhat foolhardy especially with the revelations later on, this is quite difficult to figure out the point behind including it when the rest of the film makes no mention of this aspect. The last flaw to be had with the film is the highly underwhelming third act that goes off the rails and into some interesting if not necessarily exciting territory. Rather than being a straightforward creature-on-the-loose-in-the-woods genre effort, the sudden turn into a series of political manipulation and government conspiracy theories is incredibly underwhelming. It's the exact opposite of what this kind of film should've been and could've been with the concept having been working fine beforehand. This just comes out of nowhere and takes the creature out of the film as a result since the focus is now on unraveling this bizarre government cover-up rather than having this murderous creature involved in the film which hurts this one a lot.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Violence.
