Simply amazing!
jessie9994 December 2019
I feel like this episode only lasted ten minutes. There is so much going on right away from the very beginning and it never slows down. I love the Rus army commander and the prince, Ganbaatar and Oleg. We also see a completely different side of Ivar now which is very interesting. I don't want to ruin the element of surprise for those who haven't watched this episode, so I will stop there.

The New Partnership
claudio_carvalho28 December 2019
Ivar flees with his bodyguard Vigrid through the Silk Road and they are captured in Kiev by the men of Prince Oleg. Vigrid is tortured and killed but surprisingly Oleg befriends Ivar. Bjorn promises to turn Kattegat into a trade center. Soon he is informed that King Harald was captured by King Olaf and Bjorn questions whether he shall help the man who saved his life or not. Lagertha decides to be a farmer again and not fight anymore.

"New Beginnings" is a promising beginning if the Season 6 of "Vikings". The partnership Oled and Ivar indicate a new danger to Kattegat. Bjorn´s decision will be certainly to help Harald. The peaceful retired life of Lagertha is a great surprise. My vote is eight.

History vs Story
timoschott-0724118 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Many people complained about the historucal inaccuracy of the show. Yes that's true. However what is the aim of the show? I think the showrunners try to tell a story in a historical setting but don't quite nail the details of history. So that is definitely something I ignore for the series since a couple of seasons.

Storywise there is no new thing. It just repeats itself. There is no new dynamic. Which is quite sad. It is exciting to see new groups but these groups are not implemented in a proper way. That's what makes it so miserable

Here we go again... again
danny-201-63333316 December 2019
Not the explosive start to a season you were hoping for and just more of the same you've seen (and not the good same).

Oh, we have to go and sort out the usurper again.

Oh, Ivor is still thinking he's a god.

Oh, you need to go and get revenge on someone yet again.

Oh, there's a mysterious land to the west we must explore.

The show died along with Ragnar and they are just desperately trying to hold on.

More Rus vikings please!
alvandyck5 December 2019
Where do I even begin? This is one of the best episodes I've ever watched. I'm loving the Rus vikings. Prince Oleg and the leader of the Rus army are just excellent in these roles. We finally see Ivar in a vulnerable position which is interesting. Bjorn is now king of Kattegat and seems to be in a bit of a pickle! So much has changed it feels like a new series and it's sensational.

The most exciting start of all seasons
bjorn_ironside4 December 2019
A very exciting start to this new season. The addition of the characters Ganbaatar (Andrei Claude) and Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky) took this episode to a whole new level. Ganbaatar captures Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) and takes him to Kiev. Meanwhile in Kattegat, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) is struggling as the new king. His mother Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) along with wife Gunnhild (Ragga Ragnars) and brothers Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Hvitserk (Marco Ilso) are with him.

First an emu, now a macaw
xaocam-7748010 December 2019
Okay, I could understand, just, the emu considering the leaving actor, but now a macaw, since when did anyone from Eurasia go to the South American continent? Hence the loss of stars due to wildly stupid errors

I loved it, balloon or no balloon
prhayhurst13 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a student of ancient history, or even geography, so misplaced facts here or there do not detract from my enjoyment of this series.

If a show (or film) tinkers with historical facts in order to make it fit in with things (as they have always done), fine.

If they do it in order to try and change historical facts, or for political reasons, absolutely not fine!

On the other hand, the balloon incident was above and beyond, still enjoyed it though.

Historically straying is one thing, plagiarism another
emdiski12 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously the series has strayed from history from the beginning, but I'm okay with that. Historical fiction almost always does, moving notable historical events and people from various times around to help tell their stories in a more compact and compelling timeline. And I'm not sure this show's writers would even categorize it as historical fiction, so really, to me, the anachronisms and smashing together of separate events has never bothered me really.

However, plagiarism is something else entirely. And I'm amazed that no one has pointed out that Lagertha's "fight no more forever" speech is almost directly lifted from Chief Joseph's famous speech of the same name, delivered what, 1,000 years later? Maybe I'm being petty, but that felt like very bad form in what is already a very strange and seemingly out-of-place story line surrounding Lagertha apparent "awakening."

The Rus are awesome
pollywellington5 December 2019
This episode was one of the best ever. Bringing the Rus into the picture is just what was needed to make this season compelling after a bit of slow ending to season five. Excellent casting choices for these new characters too. I think the scene where Ivar is captured looks epic. I love how dismissive the Rus commander was towards him as well.

Pleas, no! What the hell?
timeavereb3 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The writers can't write any new stories.

Ivar want to attack Kattegat again with help? Really? I've never seen like this before... and that new king (everybody is a king now...) acts like an idiot. "Here is a new guy from nothing who tells he was a king. First I don't trust in him." Two minutes later: "Hm... we are the best allies, and I want Kattegat." I literally was waiting the end of the episode from the fifth minutes.

Historically illiterate
voron1114 December 2019
I can see already this season is made by people who do not know a lot about that part of Russian history. Oleg the Seer was a ruler (kniaz') of Novgorod and Kiev before Rus' became Christian in 988 AD. So things like the typical Christian Orthodox onion domes, are a bit out of place. Also the clothes are not very Russian. Oleg's henchmen look more Turkic than Slavic. I think they're supposed to be Pechenegs (but I doubt the creators know about them).. they were Turkic people living on the steppe. The creators should have looked up Ivan Belibin and Vsevolod Ivanov paintings to get a general impression of the clothes/people etc. They do speak a Slavic language here (Bulgarian I think). But the creators should have chosen Church Slavonic as a language, that is the closest (ceremonial) language to east Slavic.

Loved the premiere. The introduction of Oleg and Kiev is fantastic. Bjorn's struggles as King is something I'm really enjoying. Probably my favourite premiere in the entire show.

Vikings meets Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
DrPhoton9 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
1. Oleg was a pagan. 2. Kievan Rus soldiers were most often Vikings, and -never- Mongols (the Mongols didn't show up until 400 years later). 3. Oleg was focused on invading lands to the warm and fertile south - never to the north. Why would someone living along the rich banks of the Dnieper River risk invading lands that were not worth fighting for in the first place? The reason the Vikings were so aggressive is because -any- place was better than where they came from! 5. BTW, where -is- the Dnieper river on which Kiev was founded? 6. A BALLOON? The only thing missing is Dick Van Dyke.

Great episode!
menny-7386515 December 2019
I have a respect for this show. I don't mind the accuracy of history, i am well aware not all is accurate, but only the existence of characters and the time period and big history events. Other things are created for the sake of the story telling. But still, this show is building the vikings world with a very honorable manner. The fact that you can see the characters speak 3 languages at the same time - old rus/nordic/and english is not obvious in our era. So its much more realistic then other history shows. And actors are russian/nordic/british/canadian.

The person that plays Oleg is a very good actor and great add to storyline. script is still very good. I find something in the script of this show very unique. Can't explain why but it has Great conversations. Especially between oleg and ivar in this and next episode.

For me, Vikings série is the best series in the world because the plot is captivating with many twists and turns. I really love the sets used in the series, they are just incredible. I also like Viking série for its variety of characters and the development of each character. What I like about it is that in Viking série you will inevitably become attached to a characte rsince each character is different, it myself my favorite character is Ivar because Ivar is intelligent, sly and has a good heart That is why I love the Viking series so much and I recommend that you watch it That is all the arguments I have given that for me the Viking series deserves 10 stars.

Catastrophic historical errors
arman-401949 December 2019
Until the 6th season - it was my favorite series, but due to catastrophic errors, historical disinformation is no longer such. at the time of Prophetic Oleg in Russia there was paganism and polytheism and Christianity was not. Why do Russian clothes look like Mongolian? I did not understand this either. as well as Russ, from the word blond. most of the actors playing russ are not at all like these people. the next moment. why when the sun and heat shine in the Kattegat, then in Kiev everything is covered with snow. although in fact it should be warmer in Kiev. Kiev did not stand in an empty field - it is a city on the river.

Let me get this straight...
nemesis-8813 May 2021
Ivar the Boneless, a person, who was called so because he couldn't get "Ivar Junior" to work properly, in Mr. Hirst perverted fantasy became a full-blown paraplegic and survived in the most viscious and merciless culture of the time, is now travelling EAST through what looks like Central Asia.

Then somehow he ends up 2000 km to the WEST in Kievan Rus where Prince Oleg, who looks like a murderous love child of Ghengiz-Khan and Lisa Minelli, takes him on a... FLIGHT on a HOT-AIR BALOON around typical Orthodox churches... about 120 years before Rus was baptized into Christianity and about 300 years before this type of architecture first appeared. What did I miss? Oh, I know. The Siege of Paris shown two seasons ago actually happened 40 years AFTER the time shown in this episode.

Oh Come On!
mayaschneiderbsc24 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Yes the first three seasons were the best, and actually I didn't even hate seasons 4 and 5 despite the dramatic shift in characters and storytelling. I (hesitantly) adjusted to the story shifting from Ragnar to Ragnars's sons. But after just one episode into season 6 it's already headed into "unwatchable" territory. It's just that bad.

Putting aside the fact that Prince Oleg shouldn't exist at this point in time, Danila Kozlovsky's acting is just awkward. His teary-eyed scenes are just uncomfortable to watch; I didn't feel myself sympathizing with him. It seemed forced and almost comedic when the camera focuses on the single tear running down his cheek.

And what's with the Vignar torture? Oleg destroys this poor guy because he doesn't "believe" his story about Ivar, but once Vignar is dead it's like he instantly changed his mind. Now he and Ivar are best friends flying over the city together on ropes tied to a hot air balloon (I just need to pretend that never happened). So what was even the point of killing Vignar other than for shock value?

Everyone we care about is gone or hardly heard from again. Ragnar, Rollo, Floki. Then we see Lagertha this episode wanting to retire as a forest hermit. Bjorn tries out his best Ragnar impression, and is now the King of Kattegat. Because Earls are soooo two seasons ago. Now everyone is a King.

This episode was boring and honestly ridiculous. I was so excited for this season and now that I've started I don't know if I can finish.

utter garbage
vadimkosyak5 December 2019
Where to begin. Christian mongols or tatars or Khazars ? Nope they were either heathens or Muslims or Judaists. Oleg the prophet sitting in the christian temple with the orthodox crosses above ? Nope he was a heathen from nordic territories and sat in his palace and died in 912 - seventy years before Kievan Rus was christened .Church bells, really? At the beginning Oleg speaks giberish mixed with modern russian? Nope - Moscow was founded 300 years later and became Russia in 18th century upon acquiring large portions of former Kievan Rus and taking its name. Before 1711/12 it was known as Tartaria and Moscovia and was an outpost of Golden Horde. It has nothing to do with Kievan Rus. Kyiv was and is situated on high hills over the river and is famous for it , not on the flat surface. AIR BALLOON ride , catholic style mausoleum ?!!! And these complete crap going on and on. Creators and writers have no clues about literally anything . They have already slaughtered Scandinavian and European history to the point of ridiculous farce and continue doing so . As for the acting and directing - same wooden, outright stupid lazy job. Avoid.
