What..
Sebbz946 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What was this? Is that it? 9 episodes and this is what it resulted in? Rus never invaded Scandinavia to begin with and Björn dies a wealthy King of Sweden at old age. Sure change some things but why everything? The only thing I enjoyed in this episode was the conversation between Björn and Ivar about who of them the "real heir" to their fathers legacy was. Having Björn die could work, have him go out as a warrior instead of an old man but don't be lazy and use the same song that was used at Ragnars death. (Skaldic Mode )It takes away from both Ragnar and Björn and I think he deserved some more if that was his end. And if this was all some sort of illusion or dream, then they pretty much wasted 10 episodes. The battle felt like it was just jumping around and it was a one-sided battle that wasn't even exiting. Harald is the only interesting character at the moment and I used to love Ivar and Björn.. Very dissapointed but I hope the series turns around the last half of the season (6B) and gives us a worthy ending. But right now, this series ended for me after Season 4B.

Disappointing Mid-Season Finale
claudio_carvalho10 March 2020
Ivar and Oleg plot their attack to Norway. Meanwhile Bjorn, Gunhild, Erik and Harald plan the defense of Vestfold alone since the other kings have not come to help Harald. When the Rus arrive on the shore, the battle with the Vikings begins. Who will win?

"The Best Laid Plans" is a disappointing mid-season finale. The dreamlike encounter of Ivar and Bjorn is boring and annoying. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): "The Best Laid Plans"

Note: On 11 July 2022, I saw this episode again.

Amazing writing
Sanctus877 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Do people here actually believe that Ivar and Björn was sittning on the empty beach talking to each other and that Ivar magically was moving from place to place? Jesus.. I mean Odin... Most of this episode was theoretical and took place like a mental Battle between Björn and Ivar. Anticipating each other moves and preparing for different scenarios. In the end, Björn realizes that he will lose, thus the stabbing.

This episode was great. Perhaps a bit to smart and unorthodox for the average Vikings viewer.

Ivar vs Bjorn
raiderfan_088 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What happened in the battle was what each of them have concocted in their minds. There was plenty of signs pointed towards that. In my opinion this was greatly written. I personally cannot wait for 6B. Plus with Ubbe now in Iceland, and hearing the name Athelstan it hints that King Alfred (son of Athelstan) will play a role in what's to come.

Wow, this episode was so poorly thought through
MrPositive110 February 2020
Let's cast aside that no warm European civilization would ever want Norway lol But what killed me inside is that yes the vikings had flame arrows. BUT, did they use them on the Rus ships that are wooden? Oh hell no! They only lit their weak water blockade with them. lmao Then you have Oleg's ship coming down the river, and he's standing straight up as boats on both sides are shooting arrows at him. Is he hit? Of course not. The Vikings must have had stromtrooper arrow shooters. It's sadly the only time I really rolled my eyes at an episode before. I'll be nice with my 6/10 for finally giving us a little action this season at least. But damn, they stopped caring about this series and really thinking things through, and that saddens me.

You can never expect what's gonna happen in the end.

Warning: Spoilers
So, Bjorn dies at the end of the episode, but it's not Ivar who killed him. Ivar was in the other part of town, going in the capital after climbing the mountain. Bjorn was jn a "spiritual" conversation with Ivar -and yes, the part where they talk at the beach WAS NOT ACTUALLY HAPPENING- and so he felt he was stabbed by his brother, but that's only in his mind, just to show who was actually right and wrong about their argument. All in all I cannot expect something more from this episode or even the series. Vikings became a soap opera after Ragnar died and had some very bad moments. The whole 5th season was crap for me, but the series kept becoming better and better in the 6th season. I was not expecting much (and that's why it took me so many months to watch these 10 episodes), but now i will gladly wait for the rest of it.

Unrealistic

Warning: Spoilers
Please tell me how is possible that a cripple who hardly drags himself up a cliff, crosses the space between that cliff and the sea shore UNHARMED, so that he reaches Bjorn to kill him with a swift and precise strike? It has no logic. This episode makes me think the producers were in a hurry to close the story/series and did the same thing GoT guys did in the 8th season.

Contrived Mid Season Finale
ecatalan9810 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
With Ragnar gone in season 4 and Lagertha in this season, it was a toss between one of Ragnar's children to carry on with the show until the end, that is if ANY of them make it that far. With the unexpected killing of Bjorn (by Ivar, nonetheless), "Vikings" is slowly returning to how it began: a bleak show that made it hard to root for ANY of the characters, until Ragnar Lothbrok took over as the series anti hero.

The way the show is heading, it seems the producers want to shove Ivar as the main character. While interesting in its own right, Ivar is no Ragnar, nor Lagertha... not even Floki nor Bjorn. How can a cripple, end up in the middle of a bloody battle and kill an opponent that's much stronger than him? While clever as a twist, it still doesn't make any sense. The battle scene, could have been as epic as el anything on "Game Of Thrones", yet the show runners decided to insert scenes of Ivar and Bjorn talking on the beach, in a foreshadowing dreamy sequence, rendering the fight uneven in its tension.

There's no Ubbe in this episode and the prospect of Floki ever appearing again diminishes greatly. I would like to think that Ubbe will take Bjorn's position as the central character, the one who will eventually face off Ivar but the writers haven given no hints that he will go that route. With him in Iceland, it seems far fetched that he suddenly wants to go back home.

"Vikings" has maintained a very acceptable level of quality throughout its run, but everything after Ragnar's death seems contrived and forced. This season started picking up steam mid way through but it seems it just never gets to the level of intensity seen in the first 4 seasons.

I truly hope the second half does justice to this epic show!

This was a fantastic mid season finally that was beautifully shot. Everyone moaning about Bjorn being killed really missed something there. He's not dead, it was a metaphor...

This was just a mess of bad writing and direction.
AndersSTHLM6 February 2020
This episode could have been great but the side story with Björn talking to his brother who wasn't there was just a mess. The first 9ep of this season were really good and were building up to this attack. I didn't get what the director was trying to say. Just a mess of something that could have turned out epic.

You've got it all wrong
NaranekAngmar13 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Do people really think that what they saw on screen was real? The clue is that Bjorn and Ivar were at no point sitting on a beach together chatting.

Each sequence was from either the point of view of Bjorn or Ivar, trying to out think each other. None of what you saw really happened. Ivar cannot of been on a beach killing Bjorn whilst at the same time climbing a cliff.

Season 6 Part 2 will start with the actual events of the stratagies that they decided to go with.

That's what I think at least, otherwise that really was a terrible episde.

Have TV audiences forgotten how to use their brain?
jayball9812 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I am seriously baffled by some of the reviews here. The show gives multiple hints that the battle we are witnessing is the strategic imaginations of both Ivar and Björn. The battle is not real. Björn is not dead. It's a cliffhanger to keep us going for the final part of the season. If this will still be as riveting on a rewatch is questionable, but for what they intended to do, it was well-executed. Also finally they recognised that Heilung was always perfect as a soundtrack for Vikings.

People are very hard to be pleased these days
theteamavengers30 January 2021
How can you hate an episode like this. It was exactly what the first 9 episodes promised us. And you guys are too stupid to think that bjorn and ivar were really talking in the beach. And ivar did NOT kill bjorn. It was a sign that ivar won the battle and bjorn lost

Amazing finale to a great season.
aminullahrahman6 February 2020
That conversation with Ivar and Bjorn was really well done. Speaking about their father's legacy and who the true heir to him really is.

The battle itself was phenomenal. Great action, choreography and filled with intense moments. Is Bjorn and Harald really dead? We'll see.

There is a special place for the producers And I think they may quite literally get blood egaled for this. The whole series has taken liberty's throughout the series and unless they follow a tighter history line for the ending they will be doomed.

Double meaning
Efrossini9 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Everyone needs to realise that some times in movies the endings are enigmatic and sometimes they are not. This one is enigmatic. In order to keep us wondering if all these was real, took place like that or was just a vision. Just so we will stay tuned for the upcoming episodes. IT WAS UNCLEAR FOR A REASON. Also, enough with the "he did not deserve to die like that". Seriously? Not even this death was not worthy? What would've been acceptable? Odin to come down and take them by their hand and lead all the heroes one by one to Valhalla?? Not a single time I read a comment saying, that that was a worthy and glorious death. It was confusing but it was very interesting. It was a decent closing to the midseason. But we still await for more!

Björn não morreu

Claramente, Björn não morreu. Clearly, Björn is not dead. Is was a metaphor of his defeat in the battle. And it is also clear that Ivan is plotting against Oleg. And Hitzeck is plotting against Ivar. Nice twist of events
