Very Creative And Original Game
Tunciku22 December 2017
This game is such, that the least you know, the more you enjoy from it. Its emotional, surprising, horrifying, cute, interesting and you will feel empty when you finish it.

Its free on steam so, I highly recommend you to check it out.

Yuri is Best Girl 1000%
jfgibson7315 January 2022
The only helpful thing I have to tell someone who is thinking of trying this game and who came here, for some reason, to read reviews on a movie-focused website, is that the other positive reviews are very accurate. If you're going to play, don't try to find out anything about it.

Also, Yuri will always be the best.

Hilarious!

I loved this game. I only have one complaint. The game didn't go anywhere until like 2 hours into it. The first act is so long and might make you lose interest. That's probably why I saw a few bad reviews here. I'm not giving away what happens but it gets good, believe me!!!

The explaination
Derache6 January 2019
On my first play through I had really only brushed the whole concept and shock value of the game which the average player understands. As I ventured more and more into the game I really had learned to love the attention to detail, the secret and hidden content. Every character has a back story to which tells why they act as they do and it adds a ton to the game. The conversation with Monika really tells good advice and ideologies and reveals a ton about the back story of the game and characters.

An Odd Curveball! A Genre-Defining Game!
colorthekid28 December 2019
At first, I thought Doki Doki Literature Club was just going to be a dating simulator or a visual novel. I mean, not just any dating simulator or visual novel, since people spoke so highly of it, but an interesting one. So I knew there would be something different to this game - something special. Perhaps a great soundtrack, amazing graphics, or just a simple but great story.

Well, what I found was so much more rewarding than anything I was expecting!

When I first opened the game, I was greeted by the warning "This game is not suitable for children or for those who are easily disturbed.". After reading that simple message, I thought to myself "I think I'm gonna like this game", not knowing what Doki Doki had in store for me.

This game really is something special. I've never played something like this. The soundtrack is simple, intentionally repetitive, and thoughtfully placed and edited. The graphics or the "art" is intentionally generic and it does a great job at masking what Doki Doki Literature Club truly is.

The writing is very entertaining and, at times, hilarious. Not because the situations are funny, but because you - the player - know exactly what the game is doing and/or forcing you to do. I never thought I'd have so much fun playing a game like this and I'm so happy that someone was creative enough to put something like this together.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a breath of fresh air to a somewhat bloated genre of video games. This genre is not for everyone, and even Doki Doki can be a painful game for someone who is not into this genre at all. But if you can just get through those first hours, you'll be amazed at how a game can throw you a ball so curved, it warps around your mind and leaves you speechless.

Doki Doki Literature Club! is a game about literature club and that is the only thing you shold know about it, Right now the game have a massive hype, everyone talking about it and i'm a lucky person because i just found this game on steam, I have no hype or no expectation i just want to play it because it's got a good review and well... i was blown away by this game, I don't want to say much because the least you know is better and i don't want to be that guy that over hype it, If you like visual novel and then give this game a try, may be you will get something out of it a lot more than you think.

Amazing joyride of feels and jumpscares
Pickle-Rick4 February 2018
"You're just seeing it for the first time." This game is absolutely amazing. Filled with feels and a number of jumpscares and glitches, this game is sure to keep you entertained. It's free on Steam, so...why ignore it?

Also, Natsuki is waifu.

robbieb-6053318 April 2020
This is the best game ever it's a cute game where you have to date one of the girls at the literature Club. There is Yuri a girl who isn't very straight to the POINT. There's Nasuki who is very SNAPPY. There's Sayori who loves toHAN around you. There Monika who is JUST MONIKA.

I like it but...
xssilentstormx20 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I like this game, I really do but I can't lie and say it's as good as people hype it up to be. It took me about 2 hours to get to the interesting parts of the game and I was tempted to quit on many occasions but kept playing cause I had some time and the reviews were good so I hoped it would change soon. Once the game actually changed from its facade it improved massively. My main problem is that the game is really slow to start, then it peaks and I was happy that it got better, then it drops again and I wasn't really satisfied with the last hour or so as well. Not to be too harsh but the peak itself was extremely predictable and yet people were acting like it was the most unexpected thing since the plot twist in The Usual Suspects. Now I'm just going I say before people get annoyed at my review, I do not hate this game. The parts of the game that were interesting made up for the parts that were extremely boring, however once it drops its outer image it decides to put it back on again and lose what made it interesting.

Another thing, people treat some of this game like its extremely unique and never been done before, however I hate to tell people it has been done before not too long ago in the form of Undertale. I mean yeah it isn't identical but there is a LOT i can see that is almost exactly the same.

The reason I rated it 7/10 rather than 6/10 is that it was free and that was the perfect price for it. In the end I didn't mind spending a few hours on it and did enjoy it but I can't deny that I feel very unsatisfied and have to say it is more of a ride along than a game.

I love this game! It's a great game to play late at night. I love how hard-hitting Sayori's death was and still is. This game has also inspired so many fabulous mods. 10/10

the game is well done, however

Warning: Spoilers
It takes several hours to get to the interesting part. Personally, i enjoyed the first, ,,boring" act, but it's understandable that a lot of people didn't. Sayori's suicide was unexpected and disturbing, but i feel like the second act is a bit of an untapped potential. The breakage of the 4th wall is very impressive and some jumpscares might give you chills, but the gore isn't that dense if you're a less sensive person with darker interests. I didn't feel fully comfortable playing the game, so it did its job, but i feel like it still could be better. I love the way it's free, its a good price bearing in mind that it only lasts a few hours and you can play a whole game in one day. Also, i know it's a detail, but im amazed by how unique and refined the poems are, even the girls' handwriting matches their personalities and if you're attentive their art can hint you a lot about them even before the second act. I played it several times and it's very nostalgic to me, but it obviously has some imperfections. I still think its a great game worth playing, you just need to pay attention to it.

The horror stuff is really interesting but it takes too long to get there
SchoolDaysEnjoyer21 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Until about 4 out 5 hours into the game, it's just an ordinary harem visual novel, and personally I'm not really into both harem or visual novels, so for me it was just kinda boring. I played this because a friend told it's awesome and can see why he would say that, the fourth wall breaks were really clever and the horror stuff came out of nowhere, but until the last hour of the game I was really bored

And then I played it again cause I'm a completionist and I hate my free time.

Warning: Spoilers
Im not that far into it, but its honestly really good!! I love how all the characters have there own ´dere´ types but are still unique characters!!!! I especially like sayori, shes really cool and i love the ´best friend to lover´ trope!! Im actually trying to get her ending (If she has one) and i cant wait to see the game more, tbh tho i dont rlly know how to feel about monika, she hasnt rlly been an importance to the game except for the fact shes the club leader and we went to the same school last year, its also weird how shes not in any of the little extra scenes (ex: Sayori walking home with us) but im sure its fine. I do feel a lil bad for sayori since monika said we left her hanging,. I hope shes alright!! Anygyas, great game!!

One Extraordinary Video Game
TheMysteriousReviewer14 February 2023
It's not all the time I would play a graphic novel game, but Doki Doki Literature Club is one of the best ones out there. You may look at this as any dating simulator game, but this is much more than just that. This is one of the scariest horror games I have played. That would happen during the end of the first act and the entire second act. Throughout of that, we would see glitches and some terrifying deaths, which I will not spoil specifically. Outside of the horror element, both the story and the gameplay structure well to the happy ending with the creator saying to the players that it doesn't matter on which girl you like the most. It's about friendship and getting to know all these girls, which would affect the characters for their personalities. And to top it all off, one of the most extraordinary graphics for a video game. Not only the CGs are impressive and match the scenes for the game, but the presentation would mess with the players' minds with all these glitches. I definitely recommend this game for both anime fans and video game fans (since the creator has given a letter to gamers out there right the end of the secret ending). However, I highly recommend to prepare yourself for it. And if you're horror experienced, I think you're truly going to find this a one extraordinary video game. Keep in mind I have played this game on Doki Doki Literature Club Plus. So after I completed the main game, I have played the side stories. While it may not have the references from the game itself, it may have a nice origin story how the club started in the first place and has heartwarming morals. As for the game itself, this is the graphic novel game that's not only extraordinary, but also a thrill ride. Happy Valentine's Day.

Probably the BEST Psychological horror game OUT THERE!
teddabread224 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know a lot about Doki Doki Literature Club except that it was a creepy and bizarre bait and switch game.

I didn't know a lot about this game except that i had heard a lot about it and that it was a free psychological horror game on steam. But WOW.. it's REALLY well made!

You join a literature club with 4 anime girls who all (i think?) have interests in you.

What this game does good is that it gives you a slow but not TOO long build up on the characters so that you get to know them a little bit better and know a little bit of they're backstory.

In the end of the first act of the game you get to choose between two choices:

If you want to say "I love you" to Sayori. Or if you want to say something like "I'll always be you're friend " to Sayori.

This is a very heartwarming moment because the game has told a lot of story about Sayori and that SHE has feelings for you and that she is also shy and has depression.

When you come to this point of the game it really feels like a romance game done REALLY well.

In the end of act 1 Sayori h*ngs herself and takes suicide. This is a very bizarre and sad moment because when you feel like you and Sayori are alike and that you somehow have a connection with each other you can really feel sad when you've planned to help with the "party?" (I think it was?) for the literature club. You open the door and there she is h*nging. This part even made me cry lol.

After Act 1 the game starts to slowly get creepy and unnerving. You come out to the title screen of the game and then you see that everything is glitched out.

When you get back into the game you see that Sayori is gone and only Yuri, Monika and Natsuki is in the room. The characters begin sometime glitching and this is when you focus on Monika, Yuri and Natsuki. Each have they're different personal feelings.

I don't remember a lot from the game but what i do remember is that Yuri k!lls herself, Natsuki (i don't really remember) and that Monika is the evil character in this game and that she is the one that reprogram the games source code. This is a very creative and cool moment that you can do. You can delete Monika by taking her away from the games source code.

In the end of the game she traps you in a room and tells you why she did this. She sits there like forever and can ask you really weird questions. She even says you're real life name which is REALLY creepy.

If you exit out of the game and go back in again Monika is still there. This is a very creepy, un-expected and unnerving moment to end a psychological horror game.

But if you want a creative, FREE and unnerving horror game i DEFINITELY recommend it! This game makes you feel on edge, it makes you feel emotion and more. The game is just TOO well done to be true!

The only negative that i have about the game is maybe that the creepiness doesn't start until 1 hour or more in the game. Of course they have to introduce the characters and make you know them better. But i think they do that just a little too long. Otherwise this game is AMAZING! 10/10!
